GREAT BRITON in 3D (Poser stuff)

At long last, I present to you "Great Briton". He was described to me as the British version of Statesman, so I knew from the start I wanted a strong pose that showed a lot of direction and determination. Since he's a flyer, that made the choice fairly simple.

Can't give away ALL my secrets... although I've been considering making a 'tutorial' section of my website that gives away all my secrets.

Wierd. Someone in my SG said the exact same thing, and yet it's possibly the least detailed part of the whole costume.

well done Jedi....

in regards to the helm...perhaps it subscribes to the concept of simpler is better...?~

...the sword is truth...

Ok, that's weird. I was just looking at the links in your sig, Darkjedi, and I have a character that looks almost exactly like your Light-Speed character, except I named her Bright Speed. Pigtails, brightly blended colors. Creepy. And cool at the same time.

your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."
Ur = The name of an ancient Mesopotamian city.
ur = This is not a word.

Don't take this the wrong way, DJ, cause you know I respect you and your work very highly, but I don't think this is one of your better pieces. It lacks a certain touch, I think, making it seem ordinary compared to other pieces you've done.

Dear.
Sweet.
Bajezus!

That is amazing mate! Cheers so much!!

Agreed, I think you did a fine job here DJ. I'm always a fan of your "grand, lookin' over the city" views.

DJ,

This is a great piece, but I have to say that there's a certain majesty that is lacking here. Maybe it's the size of the figure in the picture, or the pose....I'm not certain. I remember seeing the Peregrine picture that you put up and wanting to go back and look at it again and again. This one doesn't quite hold me the same way. Wierd...

If I can get more specific, I'll post it. Sorry to be vague!

GHOST ZERO! Avenger of the helpless dead!

Don't get me wrong, DJ, it's still a great piece, but I think some of the people who've posted here have been right. It's not your best. I think part of it is that there's a building close to him, which sort of takes away from the majesty of the 'soaring through the sky' aspect of it. Also, since his arms are up in that pose, it doesn't look like he's flying very fast. I just don't think it's your BEST piece, DJ.

But still WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than I could do, though. Even if I had Maya and an Apple. ...And Poser.

After rendering 20 or so heroes, I've found they all have one universal quality; no one agrees which they prefer.

Some people like the majestic cityscapes while others prefer gritty street scenes, some prefer when the location is right out of the game and others prefer when the scene is more generic, some prefer when the character is posing in thought and others prefer action, some prefer when there's special effects and others want to emphasize the costumes... each piece is different in theme and character, and each has it's strengths and own weaknesses.

Of course, I read every post from you all and I take all input into consideration... both good and bad. As I look over the last year's worth of artwork, I see definite improvement in my works and I thank you all for the valuable feedback.

The single, most important question is, does the client like it? Does it fit the commission? Great Briton has requested some minor changes and I'll be making those tonight. As long as he's happy, I consider the piece a success.

*feels the burning spotlight upon him*

The client does. How could he not?

Seriously tho DJ, I thank you for taking the time and effort for both the initial piece, and the revisions we've discussed.

As someone who uses Poser, I totally grok how hard it is to convert a low-poly 3D game figure into a high-poly 3D image. In any case...

GREAT JOB, DARKJEDI!

I like it, though I can see some of what people are saying.

For one, his right buttock is oddly square. Now, I've never seen GB's butt, but I'm gonna assume it's not angular, or those quarters wouldn't bounce off properly.

Also, I think the fact that the shot is pretty much perpendicular to GB makes it lack the usual depth your pieces have. Perhaps if he were tilted 10-20 degrees towards the viewer, there'd be more dynamism.

I love the outfit and model, though. They helmet is very Gort.
