When the World Broke (Open RP)
((Oh can you people just cross over already? I'm getting tired of waiting down here.))
((Well, I haven't really been following anyone but Vern, Midas, Essex and company too closely. . . but Vern is doing some thing that will let them connect with their "real" selves, and they've been worrying over whether they should ever since. Also Hal was teleported along with them. I think they're in some random supply closet. But I've been distracted. :P))
". . . Wow. . . I see your point," Hal muttered in Midas's direction. "Your other self is one HECK of a hypocrite. . ."
" . . . Essex," he said nervously. "You remember me. . .?"
". . .Look," he said, turning to Midas again. "I have no idea who you are, but it's clear to me that you're dedicated to protecting her. . . as I am. So. . . why don't we just get along until this is over."
"Gasp!" said Schizo's voice out of nowhere. "Hal-chan is being MATURE! I do not believe my ears! And a good thing too as they're purely decorative and currently nonexistent!"
"Ow! Shut up, Schizo!" Hal muttered, looking selfconsciously around at everyone else. Some impression he was making. As usual. . .
". . . Look, it's all your own decision to make, okay?" Hal muttered. "But I've made mine. . . though it's not really fair. . . because honestly, I don't think I've changed. I think I'll be just the same after, but. . . I'm not going leave until I'm sure."
((Yeah, yeah, yeah... ))
Even as Bear approached Rosiland, he felt a weight inside his skull, a weight firmly attached to the boring, washed out blue eyes of Cortianna.
Now this Bear, if you even think about finished her off, I will shatter you mind and leave you a vegtable for the remaining two minutes of your life while I fry your body to ashes.
Keep a very close eye on him as he worked, Cortianna also kept a much lighter and gentle touch on Rosie's mind.
"She isn't going to live long if she doesn't get to a hospital NOW! Haul your sorry [censored]!"
Cortianna gave the agent a hard blink before lifting Rosiland from him in a telekinetic grip. "You heard the... man." She told the rebal, "We need to get the Commander to a medic. Lead the, I'll keep an eye on our... guest."

That decided it for Essex.
"You guys go ahead without me." she murmured with a nod. "I will stay here. Unless there's a way of guaranteeing that I don't go back to the way I used to be just yet...I can't risk going in there."
The little girl nodded a little to herself.
"But...don't be held up by me. You hurry and go. Those of us who don't want to will stay out here...even if it's only me and the Doctor."

Rosalind's form twitched slightly, and the were-human moaned. She had fought her way back to consciousness after being crazed and berserk watching her husband and best friend perish at the incantations of the Overmagus...a little flesh wound shouldn't be...
"...Get..." she croaked, her eyes uneasily fluttering open, "Yer grimy....Lichy....hands .... offa.... Ggrh..."
Nevertheless, she was in no shape to make requests.

". . . All right, Essex," Hal said, walking into the closet without further hesitation. ". . . I, I'm so glad to see you again. . . even if you hardly know who I am. . ."
. . . Glad to see her again? Hal thought to himself as he waited for something to happen. He'd been searching this miserable place for her for years. . . that was quite the understatement. . .

"I've got everything sorted out." SENECA reported through the car's interor speaker system, "The rig's as good as it's gonna get. You should be able to make it inside without any difficulties unless they try to scan your souls or something."
"Good." Acid nodded, "And the real Blood Roller?"
"Taken care of." SENECA giggled, "We won't have any problems with conflicting reports."
"Nice to know." Acid chuckled as he drove up to one of themany heavily secured entrance gates of Archlich's complex.
He really hoped they'd be let in. After all, he really just wanted to talk with the lich, and he didn't feel like causing a mess today...

((Aww, I was so hoping Essex would go all angsty again if her 'real' self appeared for a minute and the human Essex started talking with her. Guess not. ))

"Sorry to hear that." Vern murmured, looking about the room to make sure the floor was clear now, "Alright, everyone get clear."
After everyone had gone to where they wished, Vern began. Because of the shift, he'd have to dig a little, but that was alright.
The floor suddenly split apart as a fissure erupted in the concrete, the crack propagating with frightening speed all about the room. It slowly formed a main circle, smaller cracks running all throughout the floor now.
Then the circle turned a little, heaved up, and collapsed downwards into what appeared to be a large sinkhole. The matter had compressed so much it almost seemed to have vanished.
At the bottom, about five meters down, sat a perfectly smooth, deep-blue surface. Vern made sure to hold everyone up so no one would fall in there just yet. If they had, they would quickly find the surface's existance was supposedly impossible - it was frictionless.
And with a nod from Vern, a point of white light appeared in the center of the surface, extending into a line running across the hole. Moments later, the light vanished again, and the surface split apart like a door, retracting into the walls with amazing quickness and barely a sound.
Beneath sat another such surface, which also split apart just instants after the first, but without the light this time. Under this one, another. And another. And another. One by one, what seemed to be thousands of these strange doors with absolutely no space between them came open, forming a circluar shaft of sorts.
The shaft extended deeper than the eye could see, converging in the abyss. But it wasn't dark - indeed, each of the 'doors' that had opened seemed to emit some light, keeping the entire thing visible.
A few seconds after the first plate had come apart, it closed again, the line of white light flaring up for a moment, then forming into a circle that precisely meshed with the dimensions of the shaft.
Vern hopped down onto the surface, finding secure grip. It was no longer frictionless, at least not on the top. He then guided the others down, whether by his doing or theirs, it didn't really matter.
Once all who wished to come were on the platform, it suddenly let go, rushing down into the depths. Its passengers felt no acceleration, even though it had to be moving much faster than if it was actually falling. The layers between the 'doors' rushed by so quickly they were almost impossible to tell apart now.
The shaft ran deep into the planet, all the way down to just above Terra's Mohorovicic discontinuity, but time seemed of no importance right now. The platform stopped again less than a minute after it had started its descent, shuddering for a moment with the impulse of impact.
It had come to rest in a large dome, looking more like 'normal' technology. This applied to both the dome walls and the platform, though no one could be sure exactly when the thing had made the transition. The only thing that was sure is that it merged seamlessly with the green-gray plated floor.
On one side of the dome was what was obviously a large door, energy coursing through the two halves of the semicircular gate. Opposite this, 'behind' the platform sat a small domed structure with several vertical antannae sticking out of its surface. Its purpose was unclear.
Above, a lamellas gate carrying the same gray-green plating pattern closed off the shaft from this end. The gates of the blue material clacked shut again one after another, forming seamless, solid barriers all the way to the top. Finally, the matter Vern had compressed expanded again, and the concrete floor returned to its origial shape.
Vern decided not to say anything just yet, instead seeing how the descent, the crossing of the threshold, had affected everyone - if it even had affected anyone in the first place - and of course if anyone else had jumped on at the last second...

"O-of course, ma'am," said the armored rebel as he carefully snatched Rosie out of the air and backed a few steps away from Bear. He nodded once at Cortianna and then strarted sprinting away from the two toward the exit of the underground passageways.
"Medic!" he screamed over his comm. "We need a medic at Exit Point Theta NOW! The Hound is down! I repeat, the Hound is down! Move it!"
Once the rebel reached the outside, he would find no less than all three of the senior medics that operated out of the base. One of them was a qualified civilian surgeon and the other two were highly experience battlefield medics. Under their care, Rosie would hopefully be fine.

Acid and Kefetasura made it all the way to the palace gates, a feat unheard of ever before. But that was where their luck ran out.
"One minute, sir Blood Rider," the skeletal trooper said as he leaned out of his guard box. "The computer refused to scan your ID. I'll have to restart it, which will take a minute or two. I apoligize for the inconvenience."
Stepping back into the guard box, the armored skeleton gave the flashing red X over the fake ID a glare and reached for his telephone.
"Soul Sworn HQ? Yes, I'm sorry to disturb you," he said, careful to keep his voice pitched low and remain out of the sight of the driver's window of Acid's car. "We have a disturbance at Gate 4. An intruder, presumed armed and dangerous. Yes, I know that is impossible, but the computers do not lie. Very good, sir. Yes, sir. They should have about forty seconds to arrive before the intruder gets suspicious. Yes, sir. Thank you, sir."
With a muffled click, the soldier hung up the phone and waited.

At the very last moment as the elevator device began to descend, Vern would sense a mind heading toward the hallway that the storage closet was in. The mind seemed very annoyed, as though he was being dragged from somewhere of more importance to check up on something that probably wasn't wrong in the first place.
If the man kept going in the direction he was going, he'd soon see Essex and whoever else stayed behind standing outside the closet.
*************************************************
There was a click and a harsh breathing sound reminiscent of Darth Vader. But the voice that spoke was a bit less evil sounding.
"You ready to go, *click, breathe* Short Iron?"
"Imma ready as I'll ever be," said a voice that sounded like it could have come straight out of an old Western movie. "And the boys are itching for a good fight."
"*click, breathe* Let's get going then."
"Righto, Atomic. Let's go kick us some rebel [censored]."
"In- *click, breathe* -deed."

Lyden was a ways away from Xey and the rest of the group there, but from his fairly short distance he'd sworn he'd heard the sound of a portal opening. He tapped a button on the side of his mask.
"Xey? Status report?"
After a brief pause, he immediately packed up his things and hiked back over the hill. Coming over the crest, he would see the lot of them- Dark Animator, Wielder, and the rest of the rebel soldiers.
"..."
With a hand over his gun case protectively, he began down the hill toward them.

As Experiment floated with the others above the giant 'hole in the ground,' as he thought of it, he chuckled nervously. "We... Aren't actually gonna just DROP down there are we?"
Of course, it didn't really FEEL like falling to him, but the general idea was kind of the same... Until the transition.
--------------------
John could have sworn he was going blind, red flashing right across his vision. It soon, however, turned into an image of what appeared to be a super hero in red armour and a flowing cape, blonde hair and upturned goggles whistling in the wind.
The figure seemed to catch something in his sight, and flew down at an amazing pace with high advanced jet boots, much more advanced than John's own. He landed, smashing his fist into the face of a street thug with a skull-shaped mask, and a type of sharpened, poison-tipped bone stabbing directly into another.
"Y.. You just killed that man!" He yelled, clapping his hands over his mouth instantly. The figure turned, eyebrow raised. The hole left by the spine was... well, it had closed. The thugs were still breathing. Apparently, the poison put them to sleep.
"Heh, not quite, ol' buddy." The hero replied as a group of news reporters ran up, cheering.
"Experiment 2.0! How did it feel to take down the lowly thugs after so long fighting super powered villains and laying low?" one asked.
"Well, I will tell you, I feel alive again!"
"...Experiment 2.0?" John inquired, his look of shock rather obvious. Experiment simply smiled.
"Yeah. See, you were a hero. Are a hero. Is a... No, will be a... No... Something else a hero. Whatever." Experiment scratched his head, laughing nervously. He seemed to be finding things hard to explain, even if he wasn't really... Uh, real. "In some other version of your universe, you are me, Experiment 2.0. Technological extraordinare, hero of Paragon City, and self-proclaimed 'pun artist.' You are loved by many, hated by more, and you annoy half the earth. You have quite a few buddies-- You know what? Lemme show you."
With a wave of his hand, the hero and the man were sent through a fog of memory, appearing in some sort of base, missing the walls and roof. The only things that could be seen were faces, and even those seemed mist-covered, except for two. There was a slight green hue, and a few other shapes, but the easily discernable were Experiment 2.0 in some sort of old hero uniform, and... a pink android? However, her eyes were red. She was shoving some sort of blade of energy toward his throat.
"I just KNOW this scene isn't right. Hell, it could just be a fake memory..." Experiment muttered, shaking his head. "Something is very off. But, this is one of your worst 'dreams.' That android? She is one of your best friends. That green hue? Kid who is in love with said android."
"Mhm. And that is why the android is shoving her blade at your th--."
He couldn't finish as the blade slashed right through sending blood everywhere.
"...Ew?"
Fog covered his vision again, this time reappearing as the two Experiments stood side by side in doorway. Above it was a plaque with the name "Essex" above. Down the hall were about five more doors, each with a different name.
"This is Ess' Memory door." Experiment explained to his ignorant self, walking through. John followed.
A quick mental image of the girl appeared, but this time she was in a cute dress, smiling in an embarressed way it seemed. "These doors lead to the nicest memory of each friend you have. To the right..."
The two turned around, a picture of Essex again flashed inside John's mind. This time, she was sending healing nanites toward Experiment while she wore some sort of pink armour suited to her form. "This side of a room will show you the most recognizable form, at least from my experiences."
They were out of the room in seemingly no time. Along the hall were the doors leading to 'Hallucinogen,' 'Kevin,' 'Jenny,' 'Mother,' and 'Father.' Seemingly, only his closest friends were here, and seeing as how he didn't have many close friends... Heck, even Hal and Ess weren't close, but he was more friends with them than anything...
However, the doors to Kevin, Jenny, and his mother and father were locked and bolted, boards nailed over them. Experiment gasped.
"What's wrong?" John asked quickly as he turned. Experiment shook his head in disbelief before chuckling sadly.
"Uh... Heh... I haven't... Been here in a while... Doors only do that in my mind when..." He closed his eyes, anger building up inside him. "...The person dies."
"You didn't know they died? Sucks for yo--"
John was instantly on a newly fabricated mind-wall, choking as Experiment's armoured hand held him there. "Say another word, and I swear, your throat will be all over this room!"
It took a second, but Experiment quickly shook his head, dropping his other self. He sighed. "Sorry. I guess I am just upset... I didn't know they were..."
John smiled. "Don't worry about it. I know how it feels to lose someone and not know."
"...That made no sense."
"Just realized that."
--------------------
It seemed as if John hadn't changed if people didn't look closely after the transition. His hair, eyes, and clothing were still pretty much the same, as they would be... But a single sentance would quickly reveal the change. Or, the fact that he flipped with a 'Wheee!' before he landed would too.
Im glad you made the right decision, Essex. Midas said to the girl. There are times when you must make sacrifices to help others, but you cant help anyone else if you essentially are killed through some idiotic act marked as heroic. Well find another way. Now come, we must leave immediately, theres no way something wasnt picked up from this direction. Hurry with me.
The doctor gently grabbed Essexs wrist and began to lead her away quickly, but a hand grasped his arm firmly from behind. He spun, pushing Essex behind him to protect her, and came face to face with the least likely thing to ever be staring back at him. He collapsed to his knees.
Stop dramatizing, Midas, youre too good to me sometimes. A grey-skinned woman smiled down at the man, her voice filled with loving sarcasm. You couldnt have missed me too much if youve already fathered a child.
The scientist simply kept staring at the woman, tears falling down his cheeks in torrents. Hed wished for this for longer than he could remember. Hed longed for her return, knowing it was in vain, since before the Overmagus came into power. And now, with no warning or preparation, she had come back to him. He was is shock.
The woman shook her head with a playful sigh, her long black hair jostling joyously as her head turned. Her dull green eyes sparkled at her lover as her full lips let out an unsuppressed giggle. She ruffled Midas hair with her shining metallic hand, her years of growing used to her own power making the touch gentle.
As much as I can tell youd love to talk, Im going to have to get you going, smart guy. She smirked sarcastically as she lifted him back to his wobbly feet, rolling her eyes as she came to realize he couldnt support himself at the moment. With a sigh, she slung him over her shoulder. Lets get moving, then. If we wait, itll only take us longer to find somewhere to stay for a while and get reacquainted.
The exotically beautiful grey-skinned woman spared Essex a short glance. Coming? she asked shortly before beginning a trot down the hall, her long strides moving her quickly. Her legs were fairly long. In fact, she was tall, a couple inches above six feet. She was wearing metallic armor made of crimson, which scandalously revealed much of her chest, though her legs were entirely covered with wiring and plating. Her forearms and hands were cybernetic, silver and crimson, the backs of her fingers covered in diamonds. Her calves and feet were mechanic as well, though one wouldnt realize it by looking, she simply looked like she was wearing high tech boots. The rest of her legs and her hips were covered with plating and wires, and she wore a belt lined with ammunition and various devices.
Reyna? Midas asked in disbelief, not seeming to realize he was being carried.
I always told them you were the smartest man in the world. The cyborg laughed back. But for old times sake, call me Cyba.
((OOC: Picture up as soon as I get the willpower to get on the game and screenshot!))
"Wha-" Essex said, her eyes wide as she took in Cyba with a wide-eyed gaze of wonder. This woman was beautiful...stunningly so. And from the way the Doctor reacted, it was quite certain that he was in love with her.
"...Ah... You don't need to worry, miss Cyba..." she said with a nod of her head. "He's not my father...he is just taking care of me until I can go home."
Still, behind Midas, she glanced helplessly back at the supply closet. She didn't want to leave the others too far behind...
--------------------------------------
As Rosalind received the full extent of medical attention from the head medics, she glanced over at Bear.
"One of you mugs, go an' fix him up a bit." she muttered. "Someone who can peg me that bad with one hand's gotta be somethin'."
She didn't take her eyes off the Inquisition soldier, her eyes narrowed.
"...Why'd you do it?" she said finally. "Bring back my corpse and you'd be a hero. The Bonermeister would give you so many medals you'd hardly be able to walk. 'Sides..." Her voice turned cold. "You're just a human, ain'tcha? ....I just...wanna know why."
Waving a medic away from her to go attend to Bear, she sat up, looking at him with a fixed gaze, trying to figure him out.

((Hey Khell, when you said 'palace gates' do you mean the gate at the very edge of the government complex or what? Actually, it'd be helpful if you could give us a general layout of the EotW.))
Vern smiled. It looked like the planet knew exactly what it was doing...almost as if it had awaited its chance.
Then he heard the pounding. This was strange. There wasn't supposed to be anyone down here.
"Ring one rotate to open position." he commanded. A loud clack sounded through the air, and the 'door' at the edge of the dome seemed to be moving down in a arcing fashion.
Indeed, it wasn't a door at all, but a very large solid ring, only a small part of which was visible in the opening. One part of the ring contained a hole that matched this gateway precisely. One the hole and opening had meshed, one could say that the door had opened...

When the door finished opening, all that could be seen at the other side was a small saucer-shaped robot hovering in the air. It flew out into the domed entry chamber and circled the entire group oncer before returning to the door and disappearing out of to the right side.
From around the corner it vanished peeked the face of a young girl with bright green hair and a cybernetic right eye. "Ummm....hi." She said to the others. "Does one of you own this place?"
Damien and Darean followed the group to the lift. When they stood upon it nothing happened.
"This is crap..." Darean muttered to himself. Before his brother could correct him, the lift started moving downwards or at least it felt like he was moving downwards. Darean closed his eyes in an effort to balance out his equlibriam(sp). When Darean opened his eyes he was in a much different place.
Darean could feel the soft blades of grass underneath his feet. He could feel the chill in the air as he looked around the graveyard. Curiously, Darean looked and read the tombstones he was standing before.
Damien Cross
AKA Cross Fire
Born Oct. 25 1970
Died Oct. 25 2000

Darean quickly looked at the other tombstone.
Samantha Cross
AKA Cross Circuit
Born Sept. 1 1973
Died Dec. 25 2005

our hearts
Darean didn't understand what this meant. Who was Samantha Cross and why was he having a vision about her. Darean rubbed his temples trying to figure this out, when a figure appraoched him. Darean spun on the man only to realize he was looking into a mirror. Sure the figure had different clothes on but his face was the same.
"So let me guess your my real self?", Darean asked his doppleganger.
"Actually your more my real self then I am." said the doppleganger.
"Excuse me for second, I seem to have a splitting headache trying to figure out all this mumbo-jumbo. If your not the real me and I'm more the real you...."
"It's really quite simple, let me explain it to you. Your Darean Cross, known as Cross Draw. Your a hero. You have saved countless people. Some people think you could take Manticore on with your archer skills."
"Who's Manti..."
"Don't interupt it's rude. You've had a tough life. You had to kill your brother in order to save your sister, who died revenging your brother anyways."
"Oh my god, the headaches way too much to bare."
"Here lets make it easier." The dopleganger said as he merged with Darean. A sea of emotions and memories flooded the hero causing him to close his eyes to bear with the pain. When he reopened his eyes he was at the bottom of the hole with Vern and the others.
Bear didn't even look at Rosalind when he responded.
"There are some things in life that you just know you have to do."
"That was one of them."
Damien watched as his brother's face contorted into an image of pain. He also saw his brother rubbing his forehead for relief of headache. Damien reached over and put his hand on his brother's shoulder for support. As soon as the twins touched a flood of vision's entered Damien's head.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Damien stood high above the ground on a tower in St. Martial. He could feel the chaos on the streets below. In an instant he knew he back in the Rogue Isle's. The wind from his high vantage point felt great against his skin and his billowing in the wind drew his attention to matters back at hand. Rubbing his chin he traced the scar that had marked him as villain so many years ago.
"He is coming for you, Brother.", a feminie voice said.
"I know, Samantha." Damien heard himself say.
"This time he will kill you. This time he is bringing friends."
"That's why I have you, Sister."
"It won't be enough he is bringing all of the Bearers of The Cross with him."
"He is on my turf and under my rules, he will not lock up me in the Zig ever again."
A small portal opened before Damien. Inside of it stood a man who's face was completly made of rock.
"Cross Fire your brother moves, he and his Super Group are attacking our base in Warburg." The rock faced man said.
"Assemble the troops, Douglas, today we will end this family fued." Damien heard himself say.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Damien shot away from his brother loseing the contact his reassuring hand had provided. Damien looked around and saw that he was at the bottom of the lift standing with Vern and the others. The same look of rage and confusion residing his brother's face.
Cyba raised an eyebrow cruelly at Essex. Of course, you dont look a thing like him, and he wouldnt let his own daughter run around in pajamas. She chuckled. If thats the case, I wont feel bad leaving you here.
Midas gasped loudly, coming to slightly. No, girl must come
he muttered. Protect her.
Damn it. Cyba growled in disappointment. Youre always so complicated! If I didnt love you so much, I would hate you for it! she grabbed Essexs wrist firmly. Youre coming with us. She commanded, already moving, pulling the amazingly light little girl along behind her effortlessly, though even if she did weigh as much as she looked like she did she wouldnt take any more effort.
((OOC: Photobucket is biting me right now, terribly. Forgot my account existed, it did!))
Hallucinogen was walking down a long hall, filled with pictures. People he knew and had resolved to protect lined the walls everywhere. A few pictures were of himself. He did, after all, have to stay alive for her. . .
And there at the very end was a portrait of a little girl with long blonde hair, the same little girl who was waiting outside with Midas, the same that he had been searching for all this time.
"Hey, loser," Schizo said casually, walking into the hall from a doorway partially eaten away by thorns. "There's no one else here, is there?"
"No," Hal answered, smiling. "I suppose. . . that when you do not exist. . . having your existence rewritten does not really work, does it."
"Aaah..." Essex squeaked quietly as she stumbled slightly, and then picked up her step into an awkward trot to keep up with Cyba. At the pace they were going, however, she didn't have time to watch her footing, and she drew in a breath as she stepped on a sharp object in the floor she didn't have time to identify.
A few spatterings of blood were left on the carpet before the little girl pulsed with green healing energy and the wound closed without incident - though Cyba would find that pulling her had become significantly easier. Essex was skimming now, almost unconsciously, in an attempt to keep up, an inch of space between her and the floor now allowing the cyborg to effortlessly tug her through the air.
------------------------------------------
"...Hmph."
Rosalind was sitting up now, doing significantly better thanks to the efforts of the medics. She eyed Bear neutrally again, raising an eyebrow.
"...You're a ballsy guy." she finally said. "I can respect that. But you need to tell me if you're serious about this or not. I'll be honest with you; if this gets back to your bosses, you're [censored]. But my trust ain't so easy to gain either. So if you're really serious about swapping sides..."
She scooted up to her feet and took off her Mao hat, dusting it against her upper leg before replacing it smartly on her head over her sharply clipped canine ears. Her orange eyes appraised him semi-malevolently through her snow-white bangs.
"...Cortianna and I will be keeping an eye on you personally."

Bear winced as dead skin was picked off of his face, turning one eye to Rosalind neutrally, and then furrowing his brow with dislike at Cortianna.
He shrugged slowly. "Whatever you have to do. But it's pointless. I'd be KOS if I went back now."
With that, he turned his gaze to his bloodied hand, and waited for his treatment to finish.
