On the manga bloodsplatter, (I would know, I'm a manga freak) the splatters should be bigger, and less of them. Like maybe a little bigger than the victim's head, and a few around his body. And if it's actually supposed to be blood from the torso, I would say to make part of it on another layer OVER the bad dude, therefore showing the blood is coming from HIM. This is just me, though. 
Nah, its not supposed to be blood from anywhere, just blood, symbolizing there is a bloody scene.
But I agree on the splatters. trying to mess with my brush settings to get a distribution I like.
