Help improve my drawing
[ QUOTE ]
First things first: If you've come to the Art forum to look at some of the (let's face it) INCREDIBLE talent on show, this is the wrong thread for you. Sorry to waste your time.
I've been teaching myself to draw over the period of the last month or so, with some limited results. The past few days I inked a sketch a VG-mate graciously let me do of his character, and scanned it to get his opinion.
I figured "What the hey", might as well get the opinion of people who know what they're doing
The advice I've had so far on drawing, and on this drawing in particular:
Get my hands on an anatomy book so I can get a better idea of human anatomy and the detailed particulars
Head's too small
And yes, I did rush the feet somewhat, hence the lines are pretty poor.

Hey! Thats not bad! The fingers on our left look a little small but mabye that is just me...Remember, practice makes perfect!
Keep it up!

Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
looks good for basically just starting. as BAS mentioned, practice is the key. the more ya practice the better you get. a bit time consuming but the end results are most definately are worth it.
as such, keep the pencil moving and posting your work. the more art here the merrier ~

That's not bad at all for a first try! You might want to make the fist a liiiiittle bit bigger, and angle the clenched fingers a bit more (at first I thought you'd put the fingernails on the wrong side of the hand). And maybe give his ankle a little more definition by making the calf curve more sharply. But those are all minor little fixes
Keep it up! Keep drawing and posting!

fixed it for you. The boards will not display pics, so you have to link to them.
I'm not the best person for art help , but I think his head is a little small for the body. Keep practicing thouhg. You've gotten farther than most people have, willing to ask for help and trying to draw.
*grumbles about photobucket*
whats wrong with photbucket? its free...allows direct linking and doesnt hammer ya with spam. not to mention extremely user friendly. seem like a win win situation all around.....just curious is all.~

Somedays it acts up, but it really is no worse than any other free host and some paid hosts.
just grumbling because here at work I can't see photobucket!
That's a pretty good start. Your sense of proportion is good (except for the head, and heads are the bane of my existance, so I can't really help you there...)
Anyway, great start! I'd like to see more.
ah. well you should say so versus grumbling in general.
suck about the work getting in the way of viewing art...bumms...dont the know they pay us to serf the 'net all day? yeesh... ~

Rule on hands as you start doing them (and believe me I take as much time drawing hands as doing the rest of teh figure in total). Go about 50% larger than you think they should be. I know that may be a bit of an exageration, but it seems to work for me.
Well, adding to what others have said, its a pretty good start. The head needs to be a bit bigger and could use some work, The best way to improve is keep praticing. Also if you get stuck, try to find some real photos for reference.
Don't copy from comics and similar art when you are learning, especially anatomy, most of the time they tend to be exaggerated by pros, who know what they are doing though. Best to learn basics first, and then create your own style from there.
Thank you all greatly for the help, I'll keep it all in mind when drawing another figure. And I'll come back and bug you all for advice again when -that- one is done as well.
