If you're going for the peak of power look as being ultimate then perhaps lose the hood and cloaked face. Show more of the blonde hair and perhaps a beard. Change the powered armor to something more medieval (if he needs any armor at all). and replace the gloves and boots with leather flared and folded.
Ultimate TA doth not need powered armor to channel his er... ultimate power nor does he hideth behind a mask like some costumed knave!

My read on the ultimates design is a more "Real world" look to them rather than the idealized Silve Age Look most of them have.
So, the mods to the costume would be stripping away some of the comicbooky feel and replacing it with a slightly pulp-novel kind of feel -- at least that's how I interpret it.
I would expect TA to have sleeker gloves and boots and probably smaller spikes on his epaulettes (sp?). and that they are perhaps somewhat smaller too. The Hood might be tighter, and the cape might be missing altogether or perhaps Ragmanish.
If I could draw, I'd give an example.
I can't wait for someone to step up and do it -- ought to be cool.

I had fun makin' it, even if it's not Ultimate enough for ya. 
one thing ive noticed in alot of "ultimate" costumes are they tend to contain gold colors. for example. maybe change his shoulders, wires, belt, etc to gold but dont take out all the blue and black (the best ingame costumes imo tend to have 3 or more colors w/o looking like a rainbow 
). ill try to take a few screenshots, and probably end up drawing it too .
I kinda like that outfit SweetThang but not exactly screaming Ultimate ya know?
T I know what ya mean on the gold highlights too and the 3 color thing as well. I would like to see what ya come up with!

I dont think Ultimate does this too often. Sure alot of their costumes are differant, but alot are pretty much the same too. Spideys is the same, Captains is pretty much the same, just kind of more detailed. Even most of the X-mens costumes are pretty much what they've had in the past.
The biggest part of Ultimate is the reimagining of the origin/background/storyline.
Thats all mostly my opinion on it though.

NO!! CAP'S definitely not the SAME.
Same Origin sure, but Ult. Cap and 616 Cap are totally different in terms of how they Act and ReAct to situations.
I won't go into a big Fanboy'sm but Simply put. 616 Cap is very Charismatic and truly Patriotic. Ult Cap has been likened to a Gov't Errand boy. Think Frank Miller's versions of Batman(616 Cap) and Superman(Ult Cap).
Ultimates is a good line. Not Amazing enough to ever be on my pull list though.
Re-Imaginings of Characters and their places/relationships in the Marvel Universe. The Biggest one I've seen is Galactus has been transformed from Gigantic Cosmic Being that literally devours planets to... An Intergalactic Parasitic Organism that sucks the life out of planets.
I actually really like the Ultimates take on Costumes.
Functionality. That's it. Ultimate Cap's the best redesign so far IMHO. I mean take a Flashy Red/White/&Blue Outfit and turn it into a very believable and fully functional Uniform.

Here's the thing: the Ultimate Universe designs are all designed to be more "realistic" and modern-looking. Generally speaking, switch spandex for leather/kevlar, or strip the more obviously golden/silver age elements away. For Iron Man, this means making the suit look like armour instead of silver spandex. For Cap, it means he doesn't have the wings and foldy boots.
The problem with this is that TA already looks modern and realistic, so what can you do?

What you need to do, T.A. - is do some deep thinkin' about what Thor's Assassin is really all about - who he really is inside, what are his ultimate goals, why does he do what he does, how does he see himself?
Presently (except for the few secret looks underneath the armor from syrusb!) we only see him completely covered in bulky armor, with the wonder-staff of power.
Is the "Ultimate" T.A. going to be a T.A. with "better" armor and staff? or somehow with the staff integrated into the armor? Or is the "Ultimate" T.A. an evolution of the man (?) inside the armor, perhaps growing to the point of not needing it anymore?
Sure, it could just be a "newer, shinier, more gold" armor look - but is that who the man really is? Is "Thor's Assassin" a bright, shiny, gold" sort of guy?
