Starchasm

I finally gave up just looking and dreaming, and decided to pull out the sketchbook myself. Been YEARS since I've even attempted a human(oid) figure and I've never been brave enough to go very far at all with something not out of a book.

So, this is a first in a few ways.

But, the head's all wrong, and I'm sure I have more stuff out of perspective.

Suggestions? (Just be kind, please )

Awwww, that's cute!!!

As for critique, you were right about the head, but it's easily fixed! You drew it as an oval and you need to make it a circle, it's too flat the way it is. You did a good job on her nose though!

Also, you should give her a stomach. It should curve in a little behind her front arm. Her leg should also curve in a little as it gets to her ankle.

This isn't a bad start at all!! You chose a really difficult pose and it looks pretty darned good!

1. define her shoulder more.

2. shape up the arm in foreground

3. define the back leg ... Its about 1/4th the size of the front one. There is not going to be that much disparity in size at such a short distance.

4. Body needs to be a little longer... I'd say about 2 1/2 heads from chin to crotch. Plus, she is a little wide, thin her out.

5. Thighs are a little chunky and I don't think the buttox is as defined as it should be... (could be wrong about the butt...)

6. Feelt need to be adjusted slightly.

BIG change.... Move it from being a side shot to a 45 degree angle shot. Why? It'll make the picture more dynamic and you'll have more to express with.

Expression wise... think about tilting her head to the side like she is amused and having a little fun that a bird is so close (in a gentle and cute way).. and have the bird flapping or pecking grains.

This is a very good start... just break your character down into simple shapes and start with that... slowly add the detail. I fall prey to wanting to finish a drawing in the same sitting I start it, and I'm sure that is where I go all wrong... Take your time and it will be glorious!

Thanks for the tips! I'll put them to work.

How would you adjust the feet, LB? That's something else I don't like.

I'd love to do one at 45 degrees, but I'm having trouble picturing the stick-figure / skeletal at that angle to begin with.
