Leeni looked surprised for a minute. "Listen, uh...I just been goin' over the same 20 or so measures for a bit here, gotta see what they sound like before I trust 'em to actual instruments." Holding up the scanner, she turned the volume dial on it down.

"See, this thing reads the music I write - identifies it from the standard five-bar pattern I'm usin' - and synthesizes the notes as it goes across 'em. If I sweep it across faster it picks up tempo and slower makes it tone it down a bit, but it can only simulate the melodic instruments. The percussion one goes in my other hand but I can't write and use it at the same time so I'm usin' the melody first."

Pulling another little hand-scanner out of her gunny sack, Leeni put her writing instrument in her mouth after taking a quick drink of whatever wonderful concoction Frosch had made.

The second scanner provided the percussion as the first scanner emitted the melody as she carefully scanned them next to each other over the sheet music she'd been writing.

"Usually I 'ave to work some kinks out of it before I give it to Ush to test out an' I usually submit it with some preliminary lyrics but he usually writes his own." she said, beaming. "He's better at it than I am anyway!"

Kei shruged as her meal arrived. "I prefer softer melodies myself, something to ease one down after a stressfull day or an invigorating run through the woods."

The Warshade ignored most of the patrons, for now, as she floated over towards the bar. "I'll have a diet Cola." she ordered... though noone could actually pinpoint where that voice came from. Even Pitch didn't know how she managed to speak this way. But she could, so all is well.

Cafea was looking at the music. "You know, perhaps you should change the bass line in measure 54 to an A instead. That will make it a chord in second inversion, which will flow better into the cadence. Although, I don't know what style of music this is. . ."

"The good kind." Acid answered Cafea, "And that's all that matters, wouldn't you agree?"

"Pardon." 2247-U piped up, "But that style is synonymou with the experiences of..."

"Would you put a lid on it?" Acid merely sighed, "You can't break everything down into a calculation. You just can't. Takes all the fun out of life."

"An abstract concept, just as the opinion 'good'. If one were to..."

Acid wasn't even listening anymore, just having the 'why me?' look on his face as the Posbi jabbered on about logical calculations and comparing them to illogical abstracts...

((Wow I took a couple days off and this thread ran away without me, just gonna have to write myself out of it))

Anyone who thought to look for the strange shadow creature noticed that it was simply......gone. The only indication of it's presence was an empty glass on the bar, a small ber of gold sitting next to it, and a dictinct chilliness in the general area.

Kreigg slumped down to the tabletop, covering his head with his arms.

"I like mayo, too..." he grumbled derisively at himself over and over again.

Leeni's little expression furrowed at Kreigg's body language. Looking over to Cafea and Acid, she wrinkled her nose.

"Yeah, I'll probably change that bass line because it gives it more of a classical feel and Kreigg seems like that kinda guy to me. Besides, it'll give the timpani a good entrance point three measures from there and a precedence for the harmonics I'm going to introduce farther on. Thanks!"

With a happy flicker of her wings, she stood, hopping like a little bird over to Kreigg, and plopping down next to where he was faceplanted in the table.

"So, K-man..." she chirped, raising her goggles to look at him with her large brown eyes. "Puttin' the Twitch up here, buyin' the Twitch drinks...You're all right, ya know? What can I do for ya? Asides from finishing this jam."

Her tiny hand patted him on the head.

His shoulders jerked upwards in half a shrug. Kreigg lifted himself off the table and chuckled.

"Just takin a moment to reflect, is all," he explained, his tone indicated an unwillingness to continue the discussion. He stood and made a few steps towards the stairs.

Kreigg turned back to face Leeni and Aurak, and the rest of the tavern, but said nothing. He tromped back up to his room, the door of which he'd left unlocked and ajar earlier.

A brown trenchcoat stained by the elements and a faded, battered fedora lay crumpled beside the bed. It had been altogether too easy for Kreigg to kill the frail human and claim his meager possessions.

Now they were Kreigg's meager possessions. Even the fire maker he let Cafea use had been the homeless man's property. All he had that belonged to him were the two handfuls of silver he'd scooped up hastily as he ejected from his ship. Technically, that was stolen too.

"Is this what I've come to," he asked the room.

Kreigg snatched up the coat and hat, donning them both and stomping back downstairs, once again not bothering to close his door. He had nothing to secure anyway, so why bother?

"I'm goin fer a walk," he announced to anyone who cared to listen. He yanked the door open and hurried out into, what he considered, the bone-chilling cold of Striga Isle.

"Is it me," Acid started, tapping the table with a claw after Kreigg had walked out the door, "or does anyone else think there's something up with that guy?"

"Metabio-scanner suggests so." 2247-U answered, "Problems seem of an emotional nature. Hard for me to understand..."

((Hey, it's my 100th post! My feet are offically wet. lol))

Kreigg tromped miserably down the street. He barely gave any mind to the rampant street violence typical to so many of the galaxies seedier neighborhoods. Striga Isle was no exception. His claws slipped less and less on the blacktop as he grew accustoumed to the odd texture of it. He turned corners at random, not keeping track of where he was going or how long he had walked. The cold wasn't too bad once Kreigg got used to it, so there was no need to worry about getting inside in a hurry.

Then he saw the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

As he stepped off the street, down onto the rocky cliffs above the beach, he saw a plume of smoke.

"Sweet merciful Gurssk!" he cried in elation, bounding off in leaps so great as to cover several hundred yards at a time. Kreigg slammed into the side of the volcano, arms spread wide, hugging it as though greeting an old friend.

Hand over hand he drew himself up the side of the mountain, until he could swing his legs over the lip of the crater edge. Sitting happily and letting his feet dangle off over the abyss, Kreigg looked down over the edge, expecting to behold the sea of boiling rock that should be inside....

"Smeg!" he barked, "That just figures."

Pitch floated herself over to the bar properly, just hovering there until she got the attention of the barkeep.
Eventually, after waiting for a bit she made a noise like scraping her throat and started talking.
"I want a proper tea here, an do you mind if I reassume a form I can actually drink da tea in? Or haven't I proven I'm basically alien too enough yet?"

At that point, a human entered the Inn. However, after a second, the human features melted away, revealing a face that looked somewhat like a cross between a human and a reptile. The lipless mouth bared fangs that made the creature's face look like the world's most dangerous grinning skull. A lack of any visible nose or ears added to the impression, as did the white scales, with just a tinge of orange, that covered its body. The creature's muscle mass seems to have increased only slightly, but - to any capable of sensing it - its density and weight have skyrocketed. Still wearing the dark blue t-shirt and blue jeans that it walked in with, most of its body is not visible, but the same transformation has happened to the visible portion of the arms and clawed hands. Small bony thorns cover the creature's body, even pushing out its shirt slightly, making their presence known even through its clothing. The small horns also cover the crown of the creature's now-hairless head. The creature wears belt covered with metallic gray studs, and the buckle is actually a similar metallic gray object, long and rectangular, with rounded edges. A faint humming can be heard in the ultrasonic ranges, far above the human range of hearing.

The creature strode nonchalantly over to the bar and sat on a stool. Rapping a knuckle on the bar to get the barkeeper's attention - and had to pull the knuckle out after a bony ridge became stuck in the wood - he calmly asked, "May I order a drink? I don't care what, exactly; as long as it tastes good. Also, I would like to rent a room..."

The Posbi hadn't turned, but mustered the newcomer with great interest with its ring of blue-glowing optical sensors.

"Negative." 2247-U stated to Acid, having already expected their contact had finally arrived.

"Eh, he'll show up sooner or later." Acid slid back into his wooden chair, which made a cracking sound as one of the weapons he cariied on his back, under the gray cloak, wedged itself into a rib, prompting a curse and a jerk to get the thing free again...

Leeni muttered to herself as she continued composing, now working with a strange, enlarged set of headphones so that none could hear her composition but herself.

"Minor fifth, never works, minor fifth...." the little creature chittered admonishingly to herself. "Shoulda known better than to try the extended chord in this measure."

The front door of the Brown Dwarf swung open once more, and Monarch Penguin((Introduced on Page 2. -Ed.)) walked in. He had a few small rips in his spandex, showing short dark gray feathers. But more noticeably, he was carrying a clawed arm from a Zenith Mech Man.

"Phew...what a day. It feels like I've been fighting the bad guys here for a month."

Monarch Penguin then seated himself near the door, placing his mechanical prize on the table before him.
