I'm sure there are a lot of these, but a problem..
And where were we supposed to get our Pre-order codes from again?
The store you bought it from is where you where supposed to recieve your preorder box.
But it's MY sadistic mechanical monster and I'm here to make sure it knows it. - Girl Genius

I pre-ordered CoV and I picked it up today, yet I can't use the serial number until the 31st. Why? I find this highly unproffessional and defeated the purpose of my pre-ordering of the game. And it isn't helping my want of playing the game. It's ruining my excitement for wanting to play. Highly disappointing.

and this is what i got in a email from them affter i tryed to get help
(Thank you for contacting us.
The serial code you are apparently trying to use is actually a retail serial code. Your will be unable to use that serial code until October 31st. Once the game has been launched, you will use the "Upgrade" button again and add your City of Villains retail serial code. You will be charged 1 subscription fee to access both games.
Please let us know if you require further assistance.)
AND I F'n gave them my info and preorder key

Reply if you didn't get your Pre-Order box, or notification to pick it up, then it isn't NCsoft's fault.
It is the fault of your Retailer you pre-ordered with, they should have given the Pre-Order box or notified you when they got it in stock.
I preordered from Gamestop. Got a PRE-ORDER box with a serial code. Upgraded my account. This is the code that lets you into the head-start.
Thursday, I received the RETAIL version. It ALSO has a code. That code cannot be used until the 31st.
Everything is fine here. If it went down differently for you, you might consider talking to the retailer first. This is how preorders usually work. If your retailer is doing it differently, they messed up. Sorry for your troubles, but this is NOT NCSOFT attempting to "rip" anyone off. They put a system into place and it works when the retailers follow what seems to now be standard operating procedures.
Sorry it worked for some and not others.

"Some" meaning a buttload of people starting villains this morning.
Yeah my pre-order key from EBGames went in fine ... and I played 5hrs last night with the other literally HUNDREDS of villains on Virtue last night.
It seems most people who have 'problems' didn't get their pre-order box and just the retail... which wont work, or they are typing the code in wrong. I've talked to a few people and got them up after they tried a few variations of their code cause they were typing I's instead of 1's, etc.
Hi folks, there has obviously been confusion between ordering CoV early and an actual pre-order. If the company you bought the game from told you that you were getting a pre-order, they should have given you a pre-order box separate from the retail box.
If you don't have a box that says pre-order, there was some confusion with the retailer and you actually just ordered the game, not the pre-order. The pre-order box is the only way to play the game this weekend. You won't be able to enter the retail serial code until the 31st which is when the game officially launches.
Hope that clears things up.

Obviously I can only speak for myself, but I specifically ordered the preorder from EBGames.com, set up an instore pickup and didn't get my preorder box initially; the sales clerk believed that everything needed was in the main CoV box and specifically told me that it would get me into the preorder. Luckily I knew there were 2 different codes and when I only found one, went back and managed to get a preorder box. (This involved him calling the store manager at home. I can be rather... um... forceful when necessary.) They did *have* the preorder boxes and the store manager knew to give them out, but he apparently forgot to tell the staff about it. I have no idea how common a problem this is, but I doubt I'm the only one.
