((Poolesville is a little town in Maryland where Sam grew up, this thread is the story of the heroes of his hometown for the origin of Sam read the millennium paladin chronicles.))

Sam stepped off the bus; his duffel bag slung over his shoulder. He took a deep breath and looked around. He hadn't been back in 7 years, now all he needed was a place to stay.

He stopped for a moment and comtemplated his options then he whipped out his phone and dialed a number. after waiting a few minutes he heard a voice on the other end say "Hello?"

Walking into an empty room, Charlie looked around. It was dark and dank, the perfect hideout for a group of street thugs. The walls were covered in dark gray paint and the floor was engulfed by a brown shag carpet. There were two small leather sofas, near an old wooden rocking chair, which had been painted black, and an empty wooden table.

There were no signs of the two men he had chased in here. These men are dangerous, he thought to himself. They killed two people inside Selby’s Market. I have to be careful…

Charlie began to search the room more carefully. He turned around for a moment to make sure he knew the position of the door, in case a quick escape was necessary. He noted the positions of the sofas, and the chair- the chair was gone.

Charlie caught a glimpse of something shiny, which seemed out of place in this run-down building. He saw that it was a highly polished black vase, which shone from just the tiny bit of light that was entering from the open door. It sat atop the previously empty wooden table. I don’t remember you being there before…

The black vase began expanding, into a humanoid shape, once it realized it was being watched. So much for street thugs…This is a real threat, Charlie thought, as he braced himself for whatever was going to come next. It stretched and lashed out at him, with two arms and a leg, simultaneously. They struck him hard, and sent him reeling back into a wall. I hate shape shifters…

Now a man stood where the vase once had been. Dressed in a midnight black suit, complete with a full-facial mask, he really looked the part of a murderer. The man smiled, before launching another three-limb attack that knocked Charlie to the floor.

Ouch…Can’t let that happen again. Jumping up from his position on the shag carpet, he leapt towards his foe. Ducking under the next arm thrust, Charlie managed to get to a position right next to the man in black. Charlie’s hand struck the man’s head, and staggered him a good deal. Charlie followed up with a kick to his side, and then another punch. Just before this punch landed, Charlie felt a surge of energy flow through him. It seemed to want to escape, this surge, but Charlie didn’t feel that it would be necessary to defeat his foe. Even without the powerful surge, this second punch landed squarely on the shape shifter’s jaw, or what appeared to be his jaw at the very least, and knocked him out cold.

Now… where’s his friend?

Charlie barely managed to roll out of the way of a fireball shot from an adjoining room. The fireball, which had been shot through the wall, obviously belonged to his second opponent. Through the wall he saw a nasty glare, followed by a spray of smaller fireballs. Charlie leapt behind one of the couches, as the flames overshot him.

The pyromaniac’s flames subsided after a moment. Maybe he ran out of energy? Charlie thought. Seizing the opportunity, Charlie leapt over the couch, and rolled to the wall his assailant had been hiding behind. They were about ten feet apart, with nothing but air and a shag carpet between them.

For a moment, they looked at each other. The pyro sneered and Charlie smiled at him. This seemed to upset the pyro immensely. The pyro’s hands began to glow a deep red, before unleashing a spout of flame directly at Charlie. But Charlie’s fists had also been surrounded in an aura, as a blue energy force empowered them. His fists exploded with energy, sending one powerful stream of energy right through the flames, dispersing them in every direction. The energy blast hit its target- the pyro had felt the full force of the attack. He was propelled back through the wall behind him, outside onto the lawn of the building he had been in, and fell unconscious when he hit the ground. The deflected flames had begun to burn the carpet and ceiling. The carpet especially quickly began to burn, and it wouldn’t be too long before the entire house was burning. Each of these was, apparently, highly flammable, and began burning incredibly quickly.

Time to go , he thought to himself. Running into the first room, he grabbed the still unconscious man in black and exited through the door he had come in. Just as he was leaving his phone began to ring. It took him a few seconds to make sure that both of his opponents were healthy (other than being knocked out… and besides the few possibly broken ribs on the pyro) before he picked up his phone, which began ringing progressively louder and louder.

He didn't recognize the caller's number, and was confused. But he decided that if they had this number, he must know them, somehow. “Hello?” he answered.

"Hey Charlie been a while... Its Sam." Sam shifted it'd been at least seven years since he had seen Charlie.

Charlie was tempted to ask what happened to Sam but that would have to wait Sam must need something. "So what'd need Sam? Last I heard you were up in Paragon City as Lion Hart." Charlie was surprised when he got that news Sam was only 8 at the time he had run away.

"Actually I'm Shadow Impulse now. Its... complicated but I'm back in town and I need a place to stay... so I-I just thought..."

"Sure." Charlie said through the increasingly bad reseption. He remembered what had happened to Sam's family, all dead before Sam was even 8."Its the same house, I'll meet you there and get you set up."

Chris recieved a call from an unknown number. But he chose to answer anyways. The man answered in a very low voice saying "I need some help and would like to meet you somewhere." So Chris picked to meet at White's Ferry around 6. When he arrived, there was a cloaked man who just handed Chris a piece of paper with an address on it. Chris looked down and by the time he looked back up the man was gone. Even though Chris was confused he went to the address. When he arrived he carefully opened the door and could immediately tell it was some kind of gang hideout. He thought it seemed a little rough so he decided to call a friend for some backup. And so he dialed the number of his friend....

Charlie waited by the door for Sam to arrive. It's been a long time since I've seen him. I hope everything's okay, he thought to himself. He's had a tough life. Not that mine's been too easy either... Charlie reflected on his past for a bit.

When Charlie turned 13, the first charge of energy he dispelled obliterated his birthday party, injuring a whole lot of people. No one died, but the energy he discharged made him realize that he would have to control his powers, lest something like that happened again. His energy powers grew fairly quickly after that.

Poolesville had always put on a good show of being a quiet, calm little town. But, the truth was, that there was more going on than could be seen. For six years, Charlie defended it alongside his friends. Charlie was "Nova" and his greatest strength was uniting his friends together, to fight the seemingly misplaced evil which permeated the town.

The only problem was, Paragon City.

Paragon had been a hotbed of villain activity since before Charlie could remember. Despite the distance from Rhode Island, Maryland had begun to see some of the villains from the city come to Poolesville, seeking to recruit.

Charlie and his friends decided that they should go and try to stop the villains in Paragon, before they could threaten Poolesville. That was a year ago. Of the thirty people who left Poolesville, hoping to fight in Paragon to protect it, ten came back. He lost a lot of friends on that expedition...

And Sam had been in the City since he was eight. He left for Rhode Island before Poolesville really started to get overrun by its own problems. But he had done well for himself. At least... I think he did...

Sam walked up the familar driveway. He'd been up and down it many times... but that was a life time ago back before he'd gained his powers. The sun had set and a depressed darkness lay over the town

this place sure has hit some hard times... Sam looked up, and Charlie was leaning on the door frame. "Hey Charlie. How've you and Chris been?"

"Decent," said Charlie,"come on we've got a room for you." The room was darkly lit and the ceiling fan was a bit rickety but it would be a good place to stay at least here Sam knew he would be save. Three heroes wouldn't be taken lightly.
Sam had tons of questions. The town seemed crime ridden muggings and drug deals were everywhere. How had this happened? and how had he missed it? He was postive he should have heard something about the town in the news or on the streets. He would have asked them too but Chris called.
