“Who the?” Mystic didn’t have time to bleed, or curse his luck. Pain came out of him through his clenched teeth as he held his shaking arms up and hurled what he could at the cobra. Searing flame arced toward the snake as it approached.

Mystic knew that if it got close enough, he’d be done. He pushed off and hurled himself toward the ceiling of the cavern. His back ached as it slammed into the rock above. He was now hurling every ounce of flame magic he could muster, but the Cobra was still coming closer.

Then he burst into flames himself. He could no longer feel his wounds. He noticed the flaming sword in his hand, and turned to face his opponent. Down he swooped with renewed energy, slashing at the cobra. The heat he’d felt earlier was suddenly replaced with a feeling that the cavern was very cold and empty.

He swooped near the cobra, as it swung its massive, iron blade at him and right through him, drawing flame with it as it went. That’s when he realized he wasn’t ON fire, he WAS fire. He’d once again shifted to the form of an efreeti. The blade hurt, but not nearly as much as it had once before. He sent wave after wave of heat against the cobra, and slashed multiple times with his sword before the beast finally relented and went down.

Then he turned to see how the other mage was faring.

“You became flame,” the big man said. He stood over the bodies of the other Snakes. Holding up his bloody axe, he narrowed his eyes. The axe burst into flames and the blood boiled off. Mystic could see various Greek letters and Norse runes glowing in the axe. “Are you part efreet or salamander? You have the scent of magic about you, yet still with the mortal blood. There’s more to you than meets the eye.”

The man wore heavy armor, a sweeping cape, and a winged helmet. He had long reddish blond hair pulled back into a ponytail and a slightly darker beard. “I am Azurus Rigason.”

Azurus cocked his head and looked sharply off down the tunnel. “Our fight has not gone unnoticed. More are coming.” He turned toward where the portal was. “That way is blocked. I hear at least thirty converging on that room. This way,” he said, leading down a different passage. He stopped suddenly as if he had heard something out of place. He cocked his head again. “Are there more with you? I’m having troubles filtering past all the hissing.”

Mystic's voice sounded entirely different. The breath was like flame being fanned by wind and suddenly comming to life, and the consenants were sharp, like the pop of wood alight. "Part... I'm not certain. Sometimes I simply don't read all of a spell... in a pinch... it's a bad habit, I know."

Mystic followed the axe wielder with his flaming sword in hand, he looked down at his feet and found slippers and oddly colored pants. "Oh dear."

“Are there more with you? I’m having troubles filtering past all the hissing.”

Mystic thought for a second. "There may be. I had hoped that they were right behind me, but..."

Meanwhile, Smurd had run into five of these snakes in a tunnel not too far away. Their swords clashed with his and sometimes rang off his armor. He mused briefly about how he could be in some board meeting with his peers discussing financial backings of interesting ventures and calling it exciting.

Another blow to the side brought him round, and he took the opportunity of a lowered guard to run a snake through. The bruises were starting to accumulate, though, from the remaining four.

The big man looked sharply to the right. “The sound of metal clashing. Coming from…that way.” He pointed down one of the tunnels. The man burst into flame again, and ran towards the sounds.

“Off of him, spawn of Stheno!” Azurus roared as he leapt onto one of the Snakes. The Mamba was flattened, and then cold reptilian blood splattered the floor. “Greetings, sir knight,” the bearded man said as chopped at the second.

“Greetings, sir knight,” the bearded man said as chopped at the second.

It wasn't the first time Smurd had been mistaken for a Knight, though his armor was far more high tech than any ancient knight would wear. "Greetings to you, ugh- Sir." Smurd ducked aside a slashing pair of fangs and swung with all his might, splitting the snake in twain. Soon only bodies lay around them, and Smurd looked back at Mystic, who was holding his bleeding arm and slumped against the rocky wall of the cavern.

"Introductions will have to wait, do you know what happened to Mystic Inferno?" Smurd sheathed his sword and leaped to his friend's side.

Mystic held up a hand, "now now, don't fret, I'm not so injured as to let manners lapse." Mystic pushed himself up along the wall. "This knight here is a fellow member of the SuperNaturals, and my long time associate, Mr John Smurd. Azurus Rigason, part mage, part knight as well it would seem. We are here to infiltrate the Rogue Isles and discover the trail of the new Mu cult. That's why we're skulking about in these caverns."

Smurd handed Mystic a vial of green liquid, which the mage drank in one pull and then placed the empty in his pocket. The magic began to work almost instantly, mending tissue and setting bones. Soon Mystic was simply sore and tired, not on the verge of collapse.

"Are you alright my old friend?" Smurd's face showed concern.

Mystic Smiled from beneath his mask and put his hand on Smurd's shoulder as he walked past, pausing to comment. "I shall have to discover a spell that reverses the aging process."

"Well, when you do..." Smurd smiled. He turned and held his hand out to the axe wielding newcomer. "Like my friend said, John Smurd, and I'm pleased to meet you. What are you doing down here?"

“Well met, Mystic Inferno, Goodman Smurd,” Azurus said, “although I must tell you I am not a mage. I am a warrior. I grew up in the forests of Asgard and the mountains of Olympus. It is all right if you do not believe me. I have found very few in this world who do. I am here to find my mother’s ancient foe Stheno.”

“So you seek the worshippers of Mu the Dark. I had heard whispers that they had returned. Both of my parents’ people had unfriendly relations with the worshippers of Mu. If you would take the axe of a godling, I would join you.”

“We cannot wait here, though,” Azurus said, cocking his head as he listened again. “They are coming again, in larger numbers. I have a safe haven…a sanctuary, of sorts.”

Azurus led the magician and the knight through the twisting tunnels. He stopped by an alcove with a broken statue of some kind in it. Azurus grasped the massive marble base, grunted, and shifted the heavy statue. With the sound of stone grinding on stone, the pedestal shifted, revealing a small doorway behind it. “Hurry in. They are coming.”

He pulled it shut behind them. “Welcome to my sanctuary,” the big man said, waving at the sparse room. It had indeed at one time been a temple room. The images on the altar had been chipped away, replaced by what appeared to be Norse runes and Greek letters. Rations and a few scrolls on the altar. There was a stool and a cot, but otherwise the room was bare.

“We’re safe here,” Azurus said, leaning against the altar. “Please, have a seat.”

(OOC: After long absence, reintro back into writing and reading the forums)

Myriam Tsirlin, only recently returned to the Supernaturals, had left as suddenly and unexpectedly as she had arrived.

That was to be expected when one held a reserve commission as a Lieutenant of the Israel Defense Forces Hero Brigade. In Israel, she was simply known as Exodus. No other name was needed, she was a national icon.

It had been a journey of epic proportions, from Russian widow to Israeli war hero. Russia, The United Kingdom, Atlantis, Israel, The United States, back to Israel and then Lebanon.

And right back here. To Kings Row. This part didn't look much different than the blasted parts of southern Lebanon she'd left behind.

Newton had started to float away, but the voices stopped him. ‘He knew her name,’ the chubby man realized. 'Ah, nutz. I'm going to regret this.'

He calmly opened a wormhole, and tried to pull her through it. If she didn’t fight it, she’d end up at the top of the police station next to the helicopter.

“Where’d she go?” Newton asked, frowning, looking around. “Can she teleport?”

Apparently the man in the green suit had something better to do, and ran off in the wrong direction.

By the time Newton got to the helipad, Nadia was long gone. ‘Maybe she’ll be back, maybe she won’t,’ the chubby man thought as he threw himself through his wormholes again, heading back to the Two Six. ‘Not even sure why I care. She had a ton of ‘poor-me-self-centered’ angst which they all eventually grow out of. After all, I did, and if I can, just about anyone can.’ He grinned to himself as he slipped back into that ‘poor-me’ angst so easily.

Newton appeared out of his singularity and floated above the Two Six. He glanced down at the woman heading to the building. “Well, well, well, if it ain’t the voice of the Almighty,” he said, laughing as he floated down. “Myriam, I am very happy to see you again! Welcome back to the Two Six! Where did you go? We were all very worried, especially the boss-man.”

Despite the fact that they were told they were safe, neither Smurd, nor Mystic dropped their protection spells. Mystic did take a seat, though, to rest his old and tired body. He'd seen far more mischief then he would consider prudent for one of his years.

“Is this the Rogue Islands? We’re supposed to have come out near the Rogue Islands.”

Smurd put his mailed hand to his chin thoughtfully. “It appears that these snake creatures are competing with the Circle of Thorns for this area.”

“Yes, this is the Rogue Islands. About a thousand feet beneath its surface.”

“They are. I have fought both Snakes and the Circle of Thorns in this area, as well as Arachnos, and screaming demons, and Tsoo, and the escapees of the Zig.” The big man sighed and leaned against the wall. “It is a quite nerve wracking. I am always afraid that some powerful mage will find my sanctuary spell and negate it, but thus far I have been lucky. It is a subtle spell, so most overlook it.” He frowned.

He cocked his head, listening to the outdoors. “The Snakes have lost our trail. They think we’ve teleported.” He turned his head slightly, listening. “They are slithering away.”

Newton led Myriam back into the Two Six. “As you can tell, not a lot has changed here. A little dustier, a little quieter. Okay, a lot quieter. Your infirmary is just the way you left it."

"We’re pretty much by ourselves as of the moment. I'm wondering if the court system is going to send us anymore 'community service' heroes. We could use a little fresh blood."

"Mystic Inferno has headed to the Rogue Isles on some job that I don’t fully understand… something about a god of Mu of some kind. I just couldn’t go through another portal at this time. The last one I did almost killed me.”
