The New Recruits (Open RP)
Alan Michov looked down at the card he that had be at his home. Which was odd becuase currently he lived in an abondon office building in Kings Row.
Greetings Alan,
You have been hand selected to participate in our Hero Recruitment Program. We've had our eye on you for some time now and we are extending you this special invitation. If you're interested bring the attached keycard to 8321 Virtue Court in Atlas Park and present it at the door for access. Hope to hear from you soon.
What got him was it not being singed, in the end his curiousity got the best of him. He walked up to the little house and swiped his card.
"DNA Card confirmed. Access granted." Said a voice and the elevator decended. Alan was a very young hero and only recently a legal hero, he was only 5 foot 5. His hair was as black as humanly possilbe and then some, his left eye was covered by an eye patch. He was wearing jeans and a black coat with a rib patteren on it. The things that tended to worry people was the fact that he was always smiling, even in his sleep, it changed, but the edges of his lips always curved upwards.
Alan had been abit depressed after the Academy had went under, not because he liked it there, but he was pretty sure he had made a few friends and to date hadn't been able to find any of them.
He thought about his escape from the Academy in the chaos. He had been free to fight the gangs of paragon. He had also found out about the assassian that had attacked him. He was a former Skull who in his persuit of cheating death had Dr. Vahzilok work on him. His mastery over death and the mad doctor's knowledge had created a ever preserving life, one that could not be ended even if the body was comletely destoryed. More interesting was he had not been told to kill him, and he tended to lay low so why he attacked had becoe a major part of his life.
The lift stopped and he steeped into the room, his eye quickly adjusting to the light. Alan saw Radon, RADON! By accident he had found a friend from the Academy. A gloomy thought hit, in the Academy thay had never said they were friends, in truth he had alomst got him kill and had shown him his worst fear. He realized that Radon might not be thrilled to see him. Alan looked at the other man and desided to risk, "Great to see you again Radon. Who's your friend?" Alan asked as friendly as possibl, he vaguely reconized the other, but they had never realy meet. Two people, thats abit more than a concedence. Part of Alan wanted to look for the exits.
(OOC Note: This is my offical crossing fingers thread.)
(OOC: Hooray! No more instructors that offend the peoples. Just the gunmen who, while devastating, aren't much against magic, as demonstrated against Reaper Man.)
As Buck, Tommy, and Lazier went down the lift, they wondered about the odd note they'd all gotten. "Hmmm, we're going to be heroes after all, boys," said Buck Shott.
"Too bad the others disappeared," said Tommy Gunn.
"Too bad you two didn't disappear with them," said Lazier Beeme.
"Yeah, then we'd know where they were!" said Buck, the consistent goofball.
The lift stopped abruptly, and the doors opened to reveal two of the trio's favorite people: Radon and Alan.
"Hey guys, long time no see! Hey, Alan, I hear it was your friend Psyosis who got the academy's funding pulled. Apparently, he didn't like having a more powerful empath than himself training you. Or the jazzercise ticked him off, too, I'm not sure which. If only Raymond or Celes were here, they were great. I never did get to make that offer to Raymond...," Buck trailed off, concerned about Lord Raymond's lack of energy defense. "Anyway, at least we're here. Who's the blue guy?"
(OOC: Way to use a mysterious new character from the old thread to start the new one. Oh, yeah, my new thread is linked through my sig. Uses my actual characters from the game. Two are familar to Hermod, as they've made cameos in another thread. Here's to new beginnings.)

Just then the elavtor stopped and a short man walked out and bowed low.
"Its good to see you all."
Lord Raymond walked up to Buck, "No worries chap, I somehow ended up back in my room. I hope dogs are allowed in here." said Raymond as his two huongous dogs walked into the house.
"May I ask why I wass invited here?"
Akazi had her black backpack slung over one shoulder as she began her teleport hop to Talos Island.
"Great...my chance to fit in with heroes and I lose my temper." She said as she materialized on the ledge of her apartment. She teleported once more and she was in her simply furnished apartment. The answering machine light was blinking, and there was a letter under her door. It had her entire name on the front. Akazi bint Kaliz bint Alima. Inside, it read:

A keycard was inside the envelope. "DNA? Was it my DNA?" she wondered. She showered, changed her clothes and stepped up to her apartment window ledge. From her window she could see the Green Line Tram. A few spatial hops later and she was at her destination. Atlas Park always made her smile. It was the hub of Paragon. She saw more heroes here than anywhere else. Coming and going on their way to exciting missions.
The door scanner automatically scanned the card and she waited for the door to open. Instead, she felt the ground beneath her move. "Ok. This is different." she said outloud as her view of the sky was cut off. Daylight gave way to a lighted elevator shaft. It was very clean and obviously well maintained. Something the exterior of the building did not portray.
At the bottom the doors slid apart revealing an enormous vacant room with a door on the far side. She saw several people she recognized from the Academy.
"Mr. Michov, Mr. Shott, Mr. Gunn, Mr. Beeme, Lord Raymond." she nodded respectfully to each one as she approached the men. To Lord Raymond, she bowed gracefully as she was taught to by her mother. "You must respect a member of royalty when greeting them in any setting." she remembered her mother say. She didn't know the name of the man in blue so she just nodded a greeting to him. "Do you gentlemen know what we were summoned here for?" she asked in puzzlement.

*Clever*, thought Janice, *sent this the same day I receive my disability check, otherwise it might be a week before I picked up the mail.*
She stopped by the bank to cash her Treasury Check, enough to pay for her prescriptions and half a month of decent food, or a whole month of Shelter food. She was going to need some other items soon, too, might have to find some odd jobs. Not being able to hold a steady job had its shortfalls, but living rough didnt bother her. She couldnt take charity, so it was whatever someone as freakish as she was could do to make ends meet. At least the tram stations were warm and dry, and she had a long term lease on the lockers where she stored her gear. That was her next destination, no sense answering something like this naked.
*Raggedy old house*, she watched through telescopic sights, over a block away from behind a shuddering air conditioning unit. The rooftop was clear, and had an excellent vantage for some way, it wouldnt do to have someone surprise her.
*House is cold, sos the meter* she thought as she scanned the building with thermal. *Cant see inside, but wouldnt bet its empty. No electricity inside, but the pole is still hot.* She could tell by the warmth of the power line that electricity was going somewhere. Switching the scope, she hit Nightvision, of no use during the day for sighting, it still picked up infra-red and lasers extremely well. *Something on the door, and perimeter beams.* An occasional blow of dust caused the beams to sparkle under the sensitivity of the optics.
She waited less than an hour until she recognized Raymond approaching the building. He stood at the door for a moment, then some sort of trap door lowered him into the front yard. His card looked similar to the one in her pocket, wrapped in aluminum foil and old, steel window screen scavenged from a dumpster. No tracking devices would find it, until she wanted them to.
*Well, gangs all here,* as the other two descended into the ground a moment later. *Damen spooks,* a smile curved her lips. Working for the Agency usually paid well, and her bank account, also known as her wallet, could use it. She stayed off the grid, no phone, no banks, no trace.
She stashed an MP-5 inside some trash bins down the alley, then thought about it and added a couple grenades. If she needed to leave in a hurry, or was searched, she wanted something nearby. Gathering her things, she walked across the lawn and stood at the door, observing. The light came on, paused as it tried to scan for the card, then went out again.
A simple Mason Jar, no lid, and a baseball grenade wrapped liberally with electrical tape and ball bearings came form her waist-pack. She pulled the grenade pin and slid the grenade, spoon inside, into the jar. If she did get ambushed, the jar would break and the grenade would blow 3 seconds later. Insurance. She unwrapped the card and held it to the door.
((OOC: Oh yeah, Ma is a spooky type, and she is rarely caught unawares. She wouldnt carry heavy into a meeting, but count on her to have something small and deadly. A double stack Springfield Arms 1911 knock-off rides in a pancake holster at her back, and she is good with it. Ill let J figure out how to get her into the facility, but she will be good natured unless something sets her off. She enjoys covert work, and will listen to any proposition.
(OOC: woot! most of the original cast is here, and sweetthang, too. it's quite the reunion we've got going here.)
"Hey, Raymond, I'd wager dogs are allowed here. Oh, and about that incident on the tanker training field (see page 26 of Hero Academy), I know someone who could show you how to call up crystals to block energy attacks, along with all your other armors. He's a friend of mine," Buck was beaming at the fact that so many of his friends were here.
"How you been getting along since the academy closed, Akazi?" asked Tommy.
"Exactly how many people with utilitarian abilities do you know, Buck?" asked Lazier, unsure what form of contrivance allows Buck to know anyone for any situation.
Meanwhile, in a laboratory that was probably forgotten...
"So we didn't strike while they were at the academy it's okay. I've tracked them to someplace else," Dr. Malifarious was grinning wickedly. "Go, Masheen, go!"
Masheen Gunn made his way to Atlas Park, intent on destroying Tommy, Buck, and everyone around them.

The delicate hands clenched the page tightly, wrinkling it, threatening to tear it in two. Oversized, slit-pupiled eyes narrowed in a kind of desperate frustration, bringing a slight quiver to her lower lip. Warring emotions struggled for supremacy, feral predator's anger barely suppressed by other, more human responses. She tried to gather herself.
"Be calm. Tail still, don't twitch. Ears up, not flat." Thoughts took form and structure, not just raw feeling but words, symbols. "Kitty knows how...kitty can!"
She strode quickly down the hallway of the shelter, towards the front desk. Raymond would help. Raymond always helps, never makes fun. Her footfalls made little sound, her lithe form moving with an economical grace. She is largely humanoid, but several features are unmistakeably feline, the most conslicuous being her ears, set atop her head rather than to the side, and her long, very active tail. She wears nothing but a white leather chest harness, her luxuriant silver-tabby-striped coat making clothing unnecessary. A balding, frazzled-looking man sitting at an overloaded desk started at her arrival.
"Oh, hi, Kitty," he said with a touch of relief in his voice. "You need something?"
She held the paper out to him, stiff-armed, saying nothing. Raymond took it gingerly from her hand, inverted it, read it. His eyebrows rose for a moment, then he smiled gently.
"What?" She seemed near panic. "Kitty not read! Kitty need to know why paper in her room!"
"First person, kitty...what did I tell you?"
"Sorry." She composed herself with visible effort. "I need to know what that says, and you know I can't read...yet. Why would someone put a note in my room? Who even knows I live here?"
"Let me read it to you...maybe that will help clear things up, at least a little." Raymond cleared his throat. "Okay...'Greetings, You have been hand selected to participate in our Hero Recruitment Program. We've had our eye on you for some time now and we are extending you this special invitation. If you're interested bring the attached keycard to 8321 Virtue Court in Atlas Park and present it at the door for access. Hope to hear from you soon.' Did you get that straight, Kitty...they think you have what it takes to be a hero!"
"Kitty? I mean, er...me? A hero? But I'm just a kitten...or whatever I really am..."
"We both know what you did to those Hellions who tried to jack our petty cash box."
"Just a carpet shock," she shrugged.
"Yeah, right..." Raymond made a show of rearranging the mess on his desk, then stood up. "Let's go, Kitty. I need to show you where this is...this is something you need to do. You can't stay in this dismal homeless shelter forever."
"You don't want kitty...me any more?" Her voice quavered.
"You'll always be welcome, dear. Always. But it's time to move on...move up. Let's go..."
(more to follow!)
"And in this moment, I will not run.
It is my place to stand.
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands."
(OOC Note: Manofmanychars, this thread just started and we don't realy know whats going on, this probly not a good time for evil archvillian from hell to show up.)
Alan was getting nervous, everyone here had been at the Academy. He calmed himself and said that there was no need to worry, it's just a coincidence. "Raymond good to see you again, I thought you might have gone back to Englad or something, I couldn't find a trace of you."
"Mr.Michov." Caused Alan to turn. He did reconize the voice, but he had seen Psyosis 'helping' her at the Academy. Helping, yeah right, greed-two-timing-*******.
"Uh sorry miss, I remember seeing you, but I can't remember tour name. Wait I do remember...it was Miss Migrai...whoops." Alan smile ruined his embaressment. "Uh sorry, I didn't mean to, I was trying...I...uh." Alan was generaly tactless and could insult anyone without knowing it, but he never tried on purpose. He had no idea of what was the correct path to take, he usally ment everything he said.
Macheen Gunn halted in his progress when something that had been in the background came into focus. It was a blond man wearing a black jacket of immation leather and worn jeans. His sunglasses were black and made it impossible to see his eyes, in one hand he held a cigarette. "I wouldn't attack them now if I was you." He said as he took a long drag. "Hi again. I know your boss wants nothing to do with me, but think about this first. Your going to attack your enemy where they are strongest. Your were a soldier, think about it. I would surrgest waiting till they leave the building. Best case, they divide up into groups and you could easily take them down. Worst case, at least they won't be able to hide. Think about it man." He started to fade away and it was as if he had never been. On the ground was a cigarette, writen on it in black ink was 'Gunns kill people'.
(OOC Note: Just trying to be helpful.)

I went on an assignment with a Kheldian friend of mine named Eliphion. It was a tough mission for me because I had to deal with The Lost for the first time. I didn't get to explain to any of you my family background. My father was an Aberrent Rector formerly of The Lost. I'll share my story with you.
His name was Kaliz. He held the title of Aberrant Rector,a leader among the Anathema. He broke free from the hatred The Lost had for normal humans. He retained whatever humanity was left and fell in love with a Saudi born interpreter for HeroCorps named Alima. They met at a shelter for special needs homeless people. She saw him for what he was inside. They wed in secrecy and I was born soon after. The doctors said there was a chance the mutagen present in my fathers DNA would manifest iteself later on in my life. My father loved me but could not leave the house to play outside very often. When he did, it was under cover of darkness and we played in the park. On my 12th birthday he took me to the park to play after all the other kids had long gone. A new "hero" saw them playing in the park and mistook her screams of joy while playing with her father for an attack. He blasted my father with some kind of energy beam. I cried out but it was too late. The anguish and horror at what had happened to my father must have triggered the mutation. I unleashed a psionic blast that instantly rendered the hero comatose. He lies in a coma in the Talos Island Phoenix Medical Center to this day. I visit him on my birthday every year. I do not visit him out of remorse for my actions, but only to see if he is awake so I can tell him that my father was a good man.
She had a tear in her eye after she completed her tale. "The headache that I got suddenly back at the Academy was not a headache at all...I was psionically attacked." she added, quickly changing the subject.
I hope our host makes himself known soon. I am growing suspicious of our summons to gather here.
((OOC: I am not impatient...just Akazi. ))
"I appreciate your concern Buck, ol' chap but I don't believe I will be needing his assistance in learning that particular technique. I have almost mastered it already. But I will save that for later. If our myserious host does not arrive soon, Akazi, I will begin searching this building for him. I do not like secrets..."
Raymond started to bend to pet Tank and Bull but then remembered that they are almost as tall as him as it was. Raymond laughed a quiet laugh to himself.
OOC: Kitty, I hope Raymond won't be here often because I got really confused,ha. And manofmanychars I agree with Hermod, no villains yet. Remember that this is a new, different thread from the Hero Academy.
While Ma waited to see what would happen after her badge was scanned, she reached into a pouch. Nervous habit she had, and drug the weathered leather case out, grabbing inside it with three fingers and working her mouth. Pulling out a good-sized mass of stringy tobacco, she quickly shoved it into her cheek.
Some chewing and prodding later it was comfortable. She wouldn't spit on the step, and found an innocuous patch of grass. Then she settled to wait for what would come.
((OOC: She knows about the elevator thing, from watching Raymond and the others. If I need to get her inside, that's cool, but J can pilot her at least as far as the gathering if you like.))
(OOC: I intended to wait before sending Masheen Gunn in after you, I don't want any potential recruits to get scared of him. )
"Don't worry, blondie, I don't intend to attack... yet. I don't need any reinforcements coming by when I don't expect them. There've been people going in there all morning, so I'll let them all get there before ending their worhtless lives. Wait. I was a soldier? I thought I've always been a supervillain," Masheen's eyes became suspicious, then his look was replaced by a smile, "Oh, you mean, like, a soldier in the army of evil or something, right? Duh. I'm sorry, I don't always have it quite together. Who are you, anyway?"
(OOC: What, you thought he WASN'T going to be goofy to an extent? He's Tommy's brother, for cryin' out loud. )

(OOC: Sorry for taking so long guys, it's near impossible to make a post at work. I'd have to use my cellphone to do it and then it'd be limited to 500 characters. By the way manofmanycharacters, Masheen Gunn may be tough but if he had attacked he'd have been very sorry. )
The man in the brown trenchcoat smiled to himself as he watched Sartain on the monitors. He was quite impressed by her survival instincts, but to him her methods were a bit out of date. Pressing a button on the console in front of him, the peephole on the door emitted a light blue beam of light that surrounded Sartain's makeshift claymore. As the bomb disappeared he flipped a switch and activated the comm system.
"I must admit Ms. Sartain I am impressed, you're quite the model of military training. If we used the same outdated equipment as the government I'd have never been able to track you. I'm activating the elevator to bring you down to the others now, oh and by the way you won't be needing the equipment you left back in the alley but I can have it retrieved later if you wish." he said as the lift began to descend once more.

Radon looked around at the assembled heroes all of them were from the Academy. He had been surprised to see Alan when he arrived, but as the others followed behind him he knew this had to be more than coincidence. Even the guy he had bumped into in the hall was there and it seemed he was still intent on fighting him.
"Hey guys, it's great to see you all again. I'm not quite sure why we're here either, but hopefully we'll find out soon." he said finally breaking his train of thought to address the others.
Suddenly, the elevator doors opened up again and Sartain stepped out. Before he had a chance to greet her as well he her the hum of a loudspeaker turning on.
"Greetings heroes, welcome to our humble abode. Please do not lose your DNA keycards as they will grant you access to this facility for the duration of your stay. Now if you'll all turn your attention to the left." came a voice that emanated from no particular source.
Something in the back of Radon's mind thought it recognized the voice, but he was too preoccupied at the moment to give it any real consideration. Turning his attention in the direction the voice indicated he watched as several doors appeared from the fall wall. There was one for each of them and they were all equipped with devices to read their cards.
"All of your questions will be answered shortly, but first you will be required to pass a qualifying exam. We have studied each of you and have come up with personalized tests for each of you. A few words of advice before you begin, sometimes the obvious solution is not the correct one. So, whenever you're ready choose a door and begin your exam." the voice said and then the room went silent.
Radon watched as the others looked around at one another and then proceeded to one of the doors. They each swiped their keys and then entered into the darkness that lay within. With a heavy sigh he proceeded to the last door and inserted his own card. As the door opened before him he steeled his nerves and stepped into the unknown. As soon as he was inside the door slid shut behind him and seemed to meld into the wall
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
As each of the heroes entered into their chosen rooms each of the doors simultaneously sealed themselves, that is all but one. The man in blue stepped from the entryway and threw his card to the floor.
"Have all the preparations been taken care of?" he said aloud.
"Yes sir, each of them will experience a different scenario that forces them into situations that can not be solved with their usual methods." the voice replied.
"And Radon?" he asked.
"Per your instructions his card contained no program data so the area will remain vacant." came the voice's answer.
"Excellent, everything is progressing exactly as planned. While I occupy myself with him, redirect the elevator to bring any new arrivals directly to a designated training room. Now if there's nothing else to report, I've got some unfinished business to take care of." the man in blue said as he proceeded towards Radon's door.
"Actually sir, there is one more thing. It seems we have a Code Purple alert. A high level energy signature has been detected approaching the facility. What course of action do you suggest sir?" the voice asked.
"Ah yes, I sensed his presence a little while ago. Increase perimeter sweeps and notify me if he gets within 10 miles of the building. Now if you'll excuse me." he replied as the door in front of him slid open and he stepped inside.
(OOC: Okay guys, you can take it from here just think of the rooms as Danger Room clones. Remember the programs are designed to make your characters rethink their battle stratedgies in order to succeed. For instance, say a character shoots first and asks questions later the situation may require them to defeat an opponent who is being forced to attack them against their will. If they kill the attacker and don't discover the truth they fail the test. That should keep you guys busy while I'm at work tomorrow. )
(OOC Note: Alright lets see if I do this right.)
Alan stepped into a darkened room, the kind he was use to sneaking into when a local gang was about to lose some membership. It was empty, which only made him more cautious. "Over here." Said a women, in a voice that Alan reconized from his life before he was a hero.
"Mom?"
"Not quite," she said as she extended her hand and a flash of negitive energy hit Alan in the stomache. "It you dad."
Alan stared in terror at the figure of his mother. "How...that's not..." He stutered as he recovered from him by the flash.
"Don't look so shocked, what do you think I came back as." Realization Dawned on him. "Thats right, I'm a ghost and I'm possesing your mother." She grinned evily, and shot Alan again. "What are you going to do now?"
Alan barley dodged with a quick jump and covered himself in his shadowy armor. The tendrils wisped about him consuming light, heat, and any energy there was in the air surronding him. He couldn't figure out how he was going to win, he couldn't kill his mother and he doubted he could over power his father. He dodged another bolt. "Why do you call her your mom, Samantha is your mother." Broken Ribs said as he throw more negitive energy at Alan.
"She took me in after Sam abondoned me!" He yell out of fraustartion. How can I win?
"Sorry to hear that son-"
"Don't call me that!" Alan throw himself at his father and tackled him onto the ground. Then he didn't know what to do.
She grinned again and unleash raw death on him. Alan's armor held most of it out. "What are you going to do Alan, killing her isn't going to stop me, but if you don't you die here."
Alan jumped backwards. How can I win? He has mom and he's going to kill me. I knew this was a trap. Then a plan hit him.
"Sorry mom." He said under his breath and he went at Broken Ribs and put his elbow in her stomache. As she collapsed foward he brought the claw like endings on his fingers up her face leaving four cuts.
"What do you think your doing? You think you can go through with killing your mother?" Broken Ribs took a step back anyway.
"No I'm going to kill you. Mom wouldn't want to be your flesh puppet." Alan lauched his own negitive energy burst at his mother and Broken Ribs. He grabbed her and filled the surronding area with negitive energy, even as a ghost this would hurt Broken Ribs.
"I give!" He yelled. "I give." He looked down and his mother changed. "Congradultions Mr. Michov, you have passed the test. If a little roughly." Alan stared at the mystrious voice talking through his mother. "This is just an automation, you didn't actually hurt anyone. Very good plan and very quick thinking. I almost believed your bluff."
"Uh, yeah. So my father wasn't there?"
"Yes, we used him because it was the only situation that we could see you having to change tactics."
"So thats why I didn't feel him." Alan mused, "Right what do I do now."
"Go through that door. The others will be joining you shortly I'm sure." A door on the wall oppistite of the one he had come in through opened. Alan stepped through and dropped his armor. He looked around supciously, he doubted that the test were over.
(OOC Note: Alittle of Alan's history and abit of his skills. This works right?)
As Buck and Tommy approached the doors, they noticed that their rooms were separate. "Not good. Oh well, see you on the other side, Tommy."
"See ya, Buck."
They then entered their separate training rooms.
"Nobody ever talks directly to me anymore," commented Lazier, as he entered his room.
Buck's room:
Buck found himself in the middle of the street, alone. That in itself being a larage hindrance, he couldn't tell what he was supposed to be doing.
"Hello?" he called out.
And up from the ground seeped a recreation of the only creature to survive his attacks: Reaper Man.
"Hey, I remember you! You were the guy the tried to whack Alan. You must be a simulation, because the real you is dead," as he said that, he heard a scraping sound, the usual sound of something going wrong. "Safety protocols deactivated," said the computer's voice. "Oh, crap."
Buck fired as much artillery as he had at Reaper Man, but he kept on coming. Buck switched to his flamethrower, knowing that corpses are good at burning.
Twenty minutes later, Buck exits the training room with a large gash across his chest, and falls limp to the floor. "I... won... woohoo," he said as he passed out from blood loss.
Tommy's room:
Tommy entered his room, to find himself back at the academy. A simulation of Corporal Punishment was there. "Hit that target in ten secomds. Starting now," was all he said.
Tommy pressed a buttong on his gun, releasing the sniper scope from its compartment, and looked for the target. He saw it, four hundred yards away. The target was a golf ball. Fortunately, it was a secret that Buck and Tommy had, but they were crack shots with their weapons, they just like the extreme force their guns exert at full blast. Tommy deftly hit the golf ball square on. Nobody knew of their precision shooting, but they sure will now. He left the room to find Buck bleeding on the floor. "BUCK!" he cried. Then he remembered his medical device, and healed him. "Another close call," said Tommy, as Buck recovered.
Lazier's room:
Lazier was a rather new hero, with little battle experience to match his intellect. So, when he entered the room, he noticed that the simulation generator was still trying to think of a fitting simulation. He waited, and waited, and waited, until he got tired of waiting, "Oh, for goodness sake, I'll program my own d*mned simulation!" He stepped up to the machine and thought of his weaknesses, programming things to match them. When he finished, he pressed the "run simulation" button. But instead of a simulation, the door reopened. "You have shown knowledge of your weaknesses, demonstrating that you can overcome you conceit. You pass," said the computer.
"Conceit? I'm conceited? Since when did this happen? Did I miss a meeting? I may be arrogant, but I most certainly NOT conceited," Lazier was in a huff as he left his training room to find he got out last. "Sorry for taking so long, programming your own simulation is hard work."
(OOC: Tommy's test may have seemed too easy, but only Buck and Tommy knew of their amazing sharpshooting ability, so others believe they lack precision. As for Lazier's test, knowing your weaknesses is half of the battle. That would be the perfect test for those stupid characters who play tank with their scrapper, or try to be a blaster with their defender, and so on, and so forth. But that's just my opinion. )

She stared at the little plastic card for a long time. Not in confusion, as she knew how to swipe it through the reader, one of the few things she did understand about this very strange day. So much change. So much to try to get used to, to cmprehend. She felt sure of nothing anymore, and it seemed every moment was a struggle against a nearly overpowering urge to flee.
"Can't just run, can't climb a tree or crawl under a house." she hade to keep telling herself. "Everything is different now. Have to be strong...be clever."
Who was she? Even her name had changed, at least on the outside. The man in blue has smiled when he told her that they'd have to get her name straightened out, that "we really can't just call you 'kitty.'"
But they'd never be able to pronounce her real name: people's voices weren't like that. Even she couldn't really say it properly any more. Not since everything changed, since her body and mind had gone through the terrible, wrenchingly painful transformation in to what she was now. Into this mewtation.
"You have an innate mutant ability to manipulate the electromagnetic force, kitty...perhaps some sort of code name based on that...hmmm..." The man in blue had mused.
"Electrokitty!" she'd blurted out, then regretted it, thinking she must surely sound kitten-foolish. But the man had smiled broadly, obviously pleased.
"Electrokitty it is. Let's get your DNA card imprinted with that and get you ready for your initial test."
That had been a half hour ago. She had been told exactly what to do to begin her test, but nothing about what would await her inside, save that she would have to be ready to adapt to something new, something she might not be used to. She smiled inside. There was nothing about this day that didn't amount to something new and strange!
"Kitty ready...kitty brave! I'm not a scared little kitten with her tail tucked and her ears flat!"
She swiped the card. The door slid open. She strode in, slit-pupiled eyes agleam.
-------------------------
(OOC - Next up: Electrokitty Takes the Test! Electrokitty is a ff/elec defender on Triumph, currently (geddit: current? Elec? Oh, I crack myself up!) lvl15 or so. Look her up if you're so inclined. Scratching behind the ears optional, but always appreciated...)
"And in this moment, I will not run.
It is my place to stand.
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands."
The door behind Akazi shut and phased out. It was dark and sterile in the room. She closed her eyes and tried to sense anything about the room.
She opened her eyes to daylight. It was early morning at a city park. She was somewhere in Atlas Park. There was a playground with several children laughing and playing. The swingset made a squeak*squeak sound as a child swang alone. He looked sad. The other children were laughing and pointing at him. He looked to be about 6 or 7 years old.
She watched a while as the other children took turns making fun of him. One of them had a small cape and would jump up on the monkey bars and dive off always landing in a slump. He would then pretend to die a horrible and loud death. They would then look to the boy to see his reaction. This went on for a few minutes, until Akazi could not stand to see the boy tormented so.
She was about to go to the other children and demand they stop when a figure stepped into the playground area. He wore a red denim vest and ripped jeans. The red bandanas and mystic symbols on hi svest signified him as a member of the street gang known as The Hellions. He walked straight towards the swinging boy. Her heart jumped. He's going to attack the boy!! She teleported in between the Hellion and the boy.
"STOP!!!" she screamed. "How dare you attack an innocent child!" she let out a Telekinetic Blast that sent the Hellion flying back several feet. She started another psychic attack that would Subdue the ganger, but she felt the boy pulling at her from behind. He was in tears. "No....please don't hurt him." the boy cried as he ran in front of her and towards the fallen man. Akazi was confused. She had just saved the boy, and he was siding with a Hellion?
The boy cradled the man and lifted his head, sobbing uncontrollably. "Dad? Can you hear me dad?" the words sent a chill down her spine and she knew her test was over.
She sat down in the grass with her head in her hands as the playground and children faded. She wept silently.

(OOC: This is a spin-off of the thread Hero Academy and picks up where it leaves off. The premise is that since the Academy has closed, a select group of heroes is offering to train up and coming heroes in the hopes of bolstering their ranks. The recruits wouldn't be required to join the team after the training is complete, but they will be required to uphold the team's guidelines while they are training with them. All heroes are welcome, but there are a few rules.
1) Characters are not limited by archetypes, that doesn't mean you can't follow game rules it just means you don't have to.
2) No character, including my own creations, is completely invincible. There will be powerful villains and heroes in this thread, but none of them will be unbeatable. A hero/villain can be completely invincible to certain types of attack, but must make up for it with a severe weakness to something else.
3) Characters can't be killed or incapacitated without the consent of the person controling them. Some minimal autoing is allowed, but try not to get carried away. Also characters can not force another person's character to do anything against their will, the character's creator will have final say on whether their character is affected or not.
Basically that's all for now, any other issues can be handled as they arise. Other than that have fun. )
In a dark room where the only light came from brightly glowing monitors a man sat in cushioned desk chair typing away furiously. He wore a brown leather trenchcoat over a plain yellow t-shirt and a pair of stonewashed blue jeans with tan boots. The monitors before him displayed the profiles of several known heroes and realtime video of their current activities, excluding personal moments of course. Suddenly, he straightened up and adjusted his white rimmed, yellow lensed sunglasses.
"Yes sir, the special cases have been located and will be sent their invitations shortly. Yes, I have sent out flyers and spread the word about the program on the streets. Everything is going according to plan. Thank you sir, I'm pleased that you're pleased. Yes, I'm sure he'll be here. Actually I have good news for you, he just arrived. Yes I understand sir, if you need me just call." the man said seemingly to himself.

A young man in his early twenties stood in front of a run down little house wrapped up in vines and covered in dirt. He looked down at the note he had been given and held up the card that had been attached to it. As he did a green light emanated from the peep hole on the door and scanned the card.
"DNA Keycard Confirmed. Access Granted." a voice said out of nowhere.
Before he even knew what was happening he began to sink into the ground beneath him. It only took him a moment to realize that he was on an elevator headed down, but he had no clue where he'd end up. As he continued his downward journey he began to think about what had happened to lead him up to this point. It had started a few hours before while he was watching television feeling sorry for himself. All of a sudden there was a burst of light and a letter appeared in his lap.

"What the heck have I gotten myself into here? Somebody sends me a note and I automatically do what it says? I must be crazy, I mean my powers still haven't even returned yet." Radon thought as he felt the lift slowing down.
A few seconds later the platform came to a complete stop and a set of doors slid open before him. Stepping into the room he took in his new surroundings. As he surveyed the area he was taken aback by the sheer size of it. The room was completely barren from wall to wall, no carpet or furniture anywhere. To him it looked like someone had hollowed out a football stadium. Suddenly the wall on the far end opened up to reveal a doorway and his jaw nearly hit the floor as the figure of a man stepped past the threshold and into the light.
"Hello again Radon, it's been a while since I saw you last and I really wanted to see you again. I hope you're prepared to finish what we started." the man in blue said a smug tone to his voice.
