Quote:Sweet I totally called it. What do I win? Oh right....beast mastery *face palm* (They didn't put dark control in beta instead we got beast mastery with unfinished powers, getting fixed). When they mentioned how it might be much to epic looking I thought it might be a cerberus type pet. Ya know a dark shadowy dog of some sort using the 4 legged rig. That would be awsome depending how big it is too.
It's called Umbra Beast I believe the pic is a shadow wolf. I'll bet a tiny looking one but still. -

Quote:Its unfortunate the games engine can't really pull off water effects extremely well. Water powers in any video game is generally extremely taboo because of how it looks and generally in games that have water spells (not solid water ice) like just water are visually amazing and fun to work with cause of the dynamics.Which enemies have water attacks?
That'll be;
- Corolax
...and thats it. And, if I remember rightly, they have about, oh, one or two water-like powers? That look like total rear-end?
Besides, what exactly are you going to get with a Water Blast set?
-Little Water Blast
-Water Blast
-Big Water Blast
etc.
Not to be picky, but that doesn't exactly sound that riveting. At least it makes vague sense with Energy, and can masquerade as other effects (i.e. magic blasts, energy gauntlets, thermal/steam power etc)
Water is...well. Water. And it's not exactly the most threatening of powers. 'Make them all soggy' isn't going to do much to mobs.
So, technical hurdles and being something of a 'too niche' concept?
Just my opinion, anyway. But the Devs *are* still on record of saying 'not happening any time soon and we actually mean it this timeĀ'
BUT CoX has one thing going for it that can lend itself to give the most basic look of liquid. With the comming of dark control and how they said they wanted to go for a more inky look its possible it might pass off as watery effects if the colour tints work well enough maybe.
The steampunks pack Oil strike costume change emote
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FKAAw906hk
is probably the closest to a water burst in this game, it looks very cool and I wish they could expand some of those costume change emotes animations into attacks. They could find a work around and surprise us. Im hoping for it still. -
Quote:I wanna see the pictures! and that chibi pic is soo adorible. Now we need one of Captin Mako and Barracuda! and Lord Arachnos and Statesmen....oh wait...no. Its bromance! Thats fine lolI loved seeing Ghost Widow in Pocket D. I actually got to kiss her on the cheek at a Christmas party on Liberty several years ago. Not sure at what point my boldness surpassed my self-preservation instinct, but she was very fun about it and didn't banhammer me. I even got an emoted smile out of her. My lips were numb for about fifteen minutes, though. I think I still have some screenshots of it in my old CoH files.

Oh well thanks everyone! So far Im enjoying dark/energy a lot Ill get back to this topic if it doesnt live up to the itrials as much as I like.
-
Quote:Its the whole defensive secondary kinda. Its boring for me and I really like pushing the limits of other archetypes to achieve different levels of ability. The Min-maxing game at its finest, cause their is nothing fancey about any of those melee archtypes getting the softcaps imo well cause they are designed for it.*Blink*
If you want to defeat Bosses quickly, then Scrappers/Brutes/VEATs/Kheldians/Stalkers is the way to go (though not so much Tankers).
All four epic archetypes function like Dominator, though with more emphasis on defense and less emphasis on offense. Is it perhaps the powers available to those classes that drive you away from them?
If I had a melle/support or support/dominator assult AT Id be in heaven. Time/Earth Assault? Yes please! lol Anyway thanks everyone for the fantastic ideas. I know now anything "dark" related is his perfect match in the publics eye.
Im thinking of trying dark/energy blaster first and work my way to the other ideas if it doesnt keep me entertained to 50! Thanks again. Anymore ideas is always welcome Id love to hear actual experience with different powerhouse archtypes in the Itrials but I think thats a different topic. -
Quote:Oh lol I figured it backwards! Everyone knows melee is the best at single target damage! *snorts* fixes glasses. Id love to take a kheldian actully but honestly the fact that I cant play dress up with the powers and change their colours really makes me not enjoy it as much as I could. I have a kheldian at 46ish lvl too from like a few years ago also. He just sits there waiting for customization! For the part of your post that Stone quoted: The phrasing implied that melee characters (and Kheldians?) weren't good at single target damage. Stone wasn't insinuating that only melee characters are good at ST damage.
Edit- By the way, your concept seems strikingly applicable to a potential Warshade back story, with some maybe with some additional elaboration. Just putting that out there. -
Im looking at dark/ice blaster now too and I like how it has so many fun tricks and stuff that it can do but I dont think it has the damage I like. Dark/energy blast seems fun, Im liking the numbers in mids though I know in game the enemies resist a lot of energy I think.
Does anyone have experience with a dark/energy blaster in the itrials? Energy can be made up for a lot of concepts I suppose. I only leveled 1 blaster to 50 and that was a assualt/psi and that was a looong time ago. Blaster sounds excting! -
Ok I don't know how to do the multi quotes lol. ^ Fixed XD

Quote:Oooo I like this idea a lot the hellfire thing is neat thank you for that. Ive never played a mind control on a dominator yet past lvl 20. Do you think its a very popular set? How well does it work in the incarnet trials?I know you said no fire, but a fire^3 Dom or mind/fire/fire would fit the concept and be extremely lethal. You could give the fire effects a dark tint and explain that the brush with death left your character able to access Hellfire or Soulfire. Firey assault almost plays entirely at range, and embrace of fire let's you melt spawns faster. Rise of the phoenix will really play to your deathless concept.

The ability to make the pets pocket size! lol seriously its my only peeve about MMs most of the time. We take up so much space >_> (Demons Im looking at youu!)
-
Oh yes in issue 22. I'd LOVE that I can't wait it does make the most sense Id guess lol Booo it cant come fast enough! but in the mean time their is bound to be that awsome mix that can suffice? Does anyone know when issue 22 is going to pop up anywho?

Hello everyone! Okay so I don't usually post very often I much rather read up on stuff in hopes of figuring out my next fav character to play. This is going to be a long post but I really would love some help. Right now though Im really really stuck cause I have this character concept I really really like but Im torn cause I am also a min-maxer and I think the character concept doesn't lend itself to any powerhouse set ups that are very strong together.
I do the whole IOing to death in whatever direction s/l, recharge whatever the powerset feels I think it needs while trying to keep the powers I really enjoy using.
I thought Id ask your guys what powers together do you think best represents my characters concept and from their I suppose I'd try to find that balance that'll keep me happy with him gameplaywise. I really wish I could find another power combo as powerful as my maxed out plant/psi dominator AND have powers that really represent the character without going so far off to be like saying these fire powers are actully ice or somthing THAT broad of a swap for imagination.
The concept in a nutshell is about a young man who was a courier in dark astoria befor the darkness came. The darkness came took his life soul away but his latent powers that were in him ressurected him back from the dead befor his soul was taken. Now he has the power to communicate with the spirits of the dead and astral beings from other planes. He keeps his title as a courier but now he does it for astral beings and the living alike. Good, evil messages whatever he delievers them between the two, its just in his nature whatever.
I don't like playing scrappers/tanks/brutes/veats/keldians/stalkers. Things that I really love in gameplay is the ability to actully defeat boss targets quickly and effectively. AoE is more of an afterthought.
Dominators are my absolute fav archtype but I also really love time manipulation for its really pretty graphics and how it seems to go with his concept but I cant figure out that primary thatll fulfill that combo of wooo. Anything fire power based I find so boring because everyone uses fire powers it seems lol that and the only melee fire power I like visually is incenorate.
*facepalm* Im so OCD on this. Controllers don't meet up to the damage I like also despite /time being my top concern I really like time manipulation, but Im all ears for another Dom that matchs a plant/psi without it being plant/psi lol.
What powers archetype can I roll with that make the most sense and have the powerhouse feel? Keep in mind min-maxing with IOs. It flips some archetypes around like blasters with 45% s/l defense whatever as an example. -
Quote:Wow ok that part about Bella is soo epic. I knew that NPC was too cool the brief moment I fought with her. The dynamic hair should have been the obvious sign! And it does very much Im going to actully aim at these arcs for the first time so thank you very much.Ever hear of Barracuda?
As for Ghost Widow lore, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the level 15-19 arc from Seer Marino which is all about how Ghost Widow came to be... after a fashion, or the 35+ Cimeroran Sister Airlia arc, which has certain implications regarding Ghost Widow as well.
Another side arc which doesn't deal with Ghost Widow directly, but has ties would be the level 10-14 Veluta Lunata arc. It's about Arachnos and Ghosts.
Hope these help!
OH! Also, her Praetorian self is still alive. Her name is Belladona Vetrano and is a member of the Resistance. -
Oh thats so cute! I had no idea. You know what would also be cute is if Captain Mako had a Coralax girlfriend! lol
-
Quote:Ooooo I need to do that! and thats awsome! did you meet her? what was she like? lol Why isn't she around anymore?Your best source of information on Ghost Widow can come from playing her Patron arcs and the level 15-19 arc from Seer Marino in Mercy.
Ghost Widow USED to be played by a Dev years ago, she would almost ALWAYS be on in Pocket D 1 on Virtue and was quite the roleplayer. -
Ok so I see a lot of threads about players talking about Statesmen and what not, I am personally glad that I think the gist of it is that he is getting killed off? Whatever. Thats not the point.
I am personally way more interested to know everything about what is going on with Ghost Widows story! Okay to be fair I'm really not much into the lore of the game too heavily and I did read her wiki page and what not but does she have a current role now in anything?
She's just so cool! Id love to read really cool neat information about her that anyone would not know exactly. Like info about her character concept designer, did she have an ingame developers playing behind her like Positron? did she appear in any of the cox comic stuff? Is she popular? What is the extent of her powers blah blah.
Neat trivia info that most players wouldn't know would be soo awsome! This topic is ok in general discussions right? I don't post very much. Thanks in advance for any positive replies! -
I'm still hoping for a support/melee archtype one day more then anything. I always wanted to use Support moves like defenders and have like the assult powers of a dom. Sounds OP but the devs have shown us they know how to tweak the numbers.

It can take a kinetic combat IO set and at the same time unlock burnout for you if you usually take hasten. It can take an assortment of proclaimer IOs aswell if you are so inclined to use it as an attack.
I don't know if it will give you good damage but it could cause a bunch of weird effects XD -
I rather love its animation so I do like to take sonic repulsion. If you have one of the vet power pets like blue wisp or dark light fairy the little pets that give you buffs you can place sonic repulsion on it.
It becomes your own version of singularity that doesnt attack and you can safely stay in it if you are a ranged attacker. It''ll turn into a pretty little planet if you add the hula hoops of doom and colour it right lol.
You can also place it on a team memeber that you see is playing at range and they are actively trying to avoid gtting into melee or when the enemies try to approach them after they get to much aggro. You'll save them enegry from moving so much, just ask them if theyd like the repulsion. Oh or you can ask them to keep the enemies in place or a corner like playing tennis when you dont have a group wide immobilize on your team, fun for them! lol. -
Gunslinger costume with street justice on the side. Just because they want to make gunslingers who dont sling guns but punch and kick everything.
(Wants martial arts secondary for blasters >_>) -
I'm not much for the numbers part but anything that is melee with the buff sets would make me jump for joy hehe.
I love the time manipulation set so much but I am having the worst time picking a blast set I enjoy cause I actully dont enjoy any of them that much. I like to be in melee but conceptwise the blast sets that have "meleeish" moves just dont mix with what Id like.
I love all the dom assault powers so I figured it'd have a primary similar to them. Oh how fun this class would be, I can have my melee up front heavy hits and support everyone too. I hope one day we get a AT with this stuff in mind. -
Just dreaming of what would be my fav AT. I'd call it the..
Phanlanxer: The phanlanxer is a close-range support specialist. This Archetype is effective with single target close ranged attacks(Not as good as a scrapper or stalker)
Phanlaxers also have the ability to strengthen their teammate's abilities (buffing) and weakening foes (debuffing). Their buffing and weakening powers are on par with a controller/corrupter.
Their inherit power could be called Alley Focus or something cool which gives them a 8% defense/resistance bonus when fighting close by to other teammates(based on each teammate close to them for a total of 8%). Solo this bonus is 1%.
Hit Points: Low (but slightly more then a defender/cor)
Damage: Low (On par with a defenders numbers)
Primary Power Category - Assault
Secondary Power Category - Buff
It's main powers are mostly the dominators assult secondary and the buffs are defender/cor/controller sets. It could have a select few from scrapper set but the numbers would have to be lowered a lot.
Its just a defender with melee powers really lol. I can dream!
