Looks like video games aren't a boys only club anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
hehe...tsk tsk. It never was just boys only clubWe just don't go to as many conventions as you all
or Tournaments. Ms. Pacman wasn't made to get the guys playing you know lol...it was a marketing tool to get more girls playing and it worked
Personally, my favorite ole video game was Galactic (I think that was the name of it)

In other words if you are not an AT or build with resistance to status effects you are not allowed to solo at high lvl?
[/ QUOTE ]
And yet, when I pop not 1 but *2* disciplines I get held AND endurance drained to zero by an orange Carnie boss in less than a second.
No exaggeration, less than a SECOND.
Yeah, those inspirations sure are helping, aren't they?
That's what the Inspirations are for! To help the solo player!

[/ QUOTE ]
I doubt inspirations are meant to help for the carnies. I have Integration and the Ring Mistresses (especially one mission boss I had for an instanced door/train mission) just bypass it and suck you dry...and of course every "defeated" minion/lt/boss from the Carnies steals some when they go down. That's because End Drain/Psychic is their main power (storyline is the masks link everyone to the AV psychically I believe). Psychic is extremely difficult to resist (I think only Stone Armor gives any real resistance...anyone know of any others?) and since they are the only villian group that is based on psychic, it seems right that it's even harder to resist them since they're so good at it. I've never had my Integration go down, but the secondary effect of end drain off each defeat, Bosses, and the nasty lil juggler ring things, will drain me everytime. I don't get stunned, or any other status effect, my integration takes care of that, but end drain isn't covered by Integration or the inspirations. After all, their end drain isn't a status effect like Disorient, SLeep, knockback etc...that inspiration would cover, but it's a sideeffect that isn't covered...just like with Clockwork or those bedarned Sappers from the Malta group. Their Sap sticks are supposed to be end drain & hold, but the inspirations & integration for instance would give you a chance to resist the hold, but there is no resist on the end drain. Sorry..rambling. -

I love teaming with kinetics, but I agree. Heh, I've actually seen, or rather not seen, what happens when 2 kinetics unleash fulcrum shift at the same time I'm setting off nova. CoH becomes Powerpoint, the dreaded 100fx dialog becomes your friend, and you start checking for immobile (d/c) teammates. Yet another facet of the game that requires you to go find a group to experience
[/ QUOTE ]
heh, I actually didn't get to experience the might that is FS until I was around 39 and in Abandoned Sewers, when a controller with it just about froze me every single time she set that puppy off. It's bad enough that all my auras can make my card go wonky at time (when it happens, I just turn everything off and then re-toggle and its fine for a time) but good god...lol...FS gives me EQ flashbacks -

Incidentally I think you would be (pleasantly?) surprised to find how many CoH players are actually women. The number of female gamers in recent years has absolutely skyrocketed. Any actual numbers slip my mind at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are approaching or above a quarter of the population.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think The Sims has a lot to do with more females getting into video games... I know it's the first one my girlfriend really started playing (must be 'cause women are so controlling - lol) and now she plays Jedi Academy, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 1942...
And I just got her City of Heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Tsk tsk :P Some of us have been playing videogames from the days of Pong...and may the heavens drop on my head if I ever load another Sims game onto my computer (free game, it stayed on my computer 1 day only).
You'd be surprised at how many women played (and still play) the good ole MUDS and progressed from there.
PS...ooooo...you just had to bring up the stereotype of the "controlling female". bad bad bad. Not nice and very blind of yousince men have been controlling women since oh...the dawn of time
bad! shame on you! It's my turn to control and you better snap too Mister!

Last time I relied on the discipline inspirations, I popped 3 of them against a Rikti Chief Mentalist, and was promptly chain-stunned into next week. Perhaps if we could purchase the higher-level inspirations, they might be of some use, but as-is, relying on the low-level discipline inspirations as a means of survival is a guarenteed trip to the hospital.
I'm not sure what the answer is, but the existing purchaseable inspiration is simply not it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye, agreed on this point. While I've only ever been stunned once by a Chief Mentalist (praise gods for Integration!!), the fact that only the basic inspirations are buyable even at lvl 40+, is rather sad. Yes, inspirations drop nicely (at least for me), but if you're trying to get some anti-status ones (I forget what they're called), it could be days before one drops...not an exaggeration. I rarely...extremely RARELY see one nowadays. -
[ QUOTE ]
And I heard they aren't, so what does that prove?
There aren't currently 2 trial zones in CoH. That's it. We got a slew of hazard zones though.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, right now there is only one, but on test (as of 9/1) 3 Trials were added. 3 new trials, Terror Volta (RESPEC!), Prisoners of Eden, and Transcendent Gateway. Anyone know where the last one will be?
So, to reiterate, just because it doesn't have a Trial in it yet, doesn't mean it's not a Trial Zone. Sewers are also listed as trial zones and I know Abandoned Sewers has it's one, but will Sewers ever get one? -

[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps if you learned the difference between a trial zone and a hazard zone you could chime in
Faultline is a hazard zone. Just like Perez and Boomtown and Dark Astoria and the Sewer Network and the Abandoned Sewer Network and the Rikti Crash Site.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pulling out the map that came with the game I have the following Tiral zones. 8 Overbrook, Aka Faultline. 12 Tera Volta, 16 Woodvale. These are marked as trial zones. Just becaues they do not have a current trial in them Does not change what they are.

Amazing what official game info will tell you huh -

And apparently you're not aware that Faultline itself is a TRIALZONE. It's even listed as such on quite a few sites...along with PP, Boom, etc...

Just so that I'm clear - the larger the group, the larger the spawn. The problem is not the "purple patch" - the problem is that players are approaching MOB spawns that are simply too small for their group.
Oh - low level trials - Sewers (upper). Faultline.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have never, ever heard of a trial in faultline. Not from any of the hundreds of players I have played with at all levels of this game. I think this may be the first mention of a trial in faultline in the history of CoH.

Perhaps getting the sarcasm out of your text/voice people and quit hammering Statesman like he's the troll instead of you all, might actually do some good if you quit coming across as the way you are right now.
There is nothing wrong with stating your opinion, there is something wrong with how you say it. -

HAHA are you serious?! The Rikti have NEVER been push overs States!!! WHY were they ever touched?? They are always a challenge and I'd see already equal to the carnies and such. Granted the Nemesis needed a bump in difficulty, but not the Riks.
Seriously, the changes to the Rikti have now made them go from good challenges to avoid at all costs foes. You do realize that the boss class soliders can kill ANY -1 AT (except tanks) with ONE hit of their melee attack??
This is the number one reason the respec trial 44-50 is having such a high failure rate. THink about it.
The Riks were always a tough gang, but now they are sickly hard and NOT worth the risk. You can still take on ANY other group with less risk than these now. NO other gang set (minion to boss) can kill in one hit. SUre, some get close- but death is NOT certain.
I play a regen scrapper, level 50, Rikti are THE new ******* gang.
I really hope you review the changes made to them. Keep the changes to the non boss class, but scale back what you have done to boss damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, he's right...rikti are pushovers. It's about tactics folks, using your brains, just like with any other type of villian group. 1 - Guardians 2 - Communication Officers 3 - Mentallists and then down the line with bosses & lts and further down. And I know of what I speak. Rikti are candy and I solo in Rikti Crash site. Not everyone can solo like a DM/Regen...I know this, but the tactics are the same for any duo or higher group that knows wtf they're doing. -

Ah - and as for the argument that mission XP "sucks." Yes, you do reap less XP/minute if you simply travel from your contact immediately to your mission door (which tends to be player behavior). However, if you fight some spawns on the way - and finish the mission with the new XP rewards - I think you'll find that missions are much, much more competitive XP wise.
Oh - and one other thing. The vast, vast majority of players at any given time are on missions. XP or not - it's the most popular part of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, the reason why I don't do missions anymore (or rather rarely do them, because I do like the change) is because on the street I can do my lvl +4 and in the mission there are a set number of my level (or if I'm very lucky +1). Don't get me wrong, I love missions, I have 20+ arcs done but there isn't much in regards to risk vs rewards in missions now unless I'm doing someone ELSES mission and they're higher level than I am.
And yes, it is the most popular part of the game and I agree with it, but the exp still sucks :P I like being able to leave the ksing/leeching/noobinfested(not to be confused with newbie infested. Ignorance & downright stupidity are two different things) streets and just get away from it all and have fun in missions. -
[ QUOTE ]
I just completed the Envoy of Shadows story arc (level 35 - 40) last night.
There is NO WAY any AT can solo the Envoy (ArchVillian).
We had 2 Fire blasters, an energy blaster, a fire/kinetics controller and an empath defender and we still had a major battle to take this thing down. Fire imps were useless as they were slaughtered as fast as they could be put out (and this is pre-nerf). This COT Behemoth has 11,000 hit points + dark shroud + regeneration. If anyone thinks they can solo this, I'd love to hear how.
After 40 there are many more missions with ArchVillians in them. So if you want to do all of your story arcs, starting in your late 30s through level 50, you will need to put together a team.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I think it is possible...after all I almost did it. While the Envoy does regen alot, I was able to keep bringing him down further and further. It was an extremely long fight at 41 with my DM/scrapper and the only reason why I failed was because just when I had him down to the dregs and knew he had maybe one or two heals left that I could fight him down through, I forgot about my end for one moment and went too far. Bam. Toggles down. While I did escape easily enough, I didn't want to redo that entire fight solo again, for by the time I was ready, he was fully healed up.
So, yes...The Envoy of Shadows is soloable...just not by me, I'll admitbut almost

The Thorn - Devouring Earth Monster
But he's not listed! We should get badges for defeating all the monsters, not just the Malta one. Btw...he was found in a Portal mission.

I didn't see a villian badge for "Knives of Artemis" (lvl 40+ villian group, all female mercenaries). Is this intentional? And are there more villian groups missing?

KoA are a division of Malta.
[/ QUOTE ]
Makes sense, although some of the NPC dialogue as you're going through the door missions are misleading to that. I did a Malta mission where a Malta NPC said something in regards to "hiring" the Knives.
Costume & concept-wise though, they do seem to have ties to Malta now that you mention it. Thanks Positron! -
