Either way..It's my opinion, like it or lump it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, dear, but lump.
No one would begrudge you your opinion. I don't think anyone here would deny you that.
By the same token, no one would begrudge you a right to post that opinion on a public forum.
It's more that if one were to take a look at your post history, it's more that you have a habit of couching those opinions as fact; you tend to presumptively speak on behalf of a lot of other folks; exaggerate issues in the game into enormous game-breaking problems; threaten to depart the game if your opinions aren't upheld; or blame others for your own perceived deficiencies in-game.
No offense, but all hallmarks of the kind of DOOOM!sayer that we take such delight in poking at in threads like this.
Seriously, if the game makes you this unhappy? Leave. No regrets. I'll even show you the door.
[/ QUOTE ]
The last post I will contribute to this thread.
First off, I invite you to look at my post history, as all of my posts are exectly what forums are based on.. user feedback, critiques, etc. etc. plus they are informative and helpful to quite a few, which I can add is unlike your trolling.
It's pretty sad to see that people like yourself are so hellbent on being accepted by others, that you have to have your click of people there to boost your ego's.. but it's ok, without the sheep, the people who can think for themselves wouldn't be so special.
I suggest you and whomever has such a warped view to truly take a moment and relax. Remember, it's ok if we don't agree.
It's also ok for someone to have an opinion that differs with you, meaning, there is enough room in the universe for different views and opinions. Embrace this, it may serve you.
Answer as you may, now that my back is turned and I am not returning to this thread.
And like I said, like it, or lump it, I don't care one way or the other. -

scaryjapan, I'm just pointing out that we can do this "DOOOOOOM" "FAAAAAANBOI" parrot spiel all day. Neither camp is original in the least. In fact, the "everyone who does or says something I don't like is automatically a fan boy at the crotch of the devs" thing has been around a hell of a lot long and is a hell of a lot less original.
So therein doth thy irony lie.

On a sidenote, most people are following the creator of this game, as well as the term. So Mr. States, please say something productive, and all you fanboys, you can remove your nose from his crotch and try to be receptive as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
The irony of you attacking people for being unoriginal by using the trite "crotchsniffing fanboy" insult is not lost on me.
[/ QUOTE ]
First, I never attacked anyone, I'm making a suggestion.
2nd, Trite... maybe to you. People paint themselves a certain way and I tell you what I see.
If you find this offensive, I can't help you there. -

My particular favorite is when someone makes a valid point about the downside of a nerf, and some jackass responds with a post that just says "DOOOOOOOOOOM!"
Yes, I surely love those.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm with you. I believe that if you're on this forum, it's because you have something to say, regardless of whether or not fanboys agree, we have a right to express.
Responding with the current trendy, ill thought response, only creates disdain and frustration, something we as heroes should try to cure.

[ QUOTE ]
Agreed.
We should try NEVER to change a power because of PvP alone (BTW, this is what I've always promised). The changes now aren't solely because of PvP - there's signifcant PvE issues, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
States, what about my nullified controller?
As an earth I feel completely useless as my holds can't touch anything, and blasters hold me FAR easier.
This suppression system, which may be needed for pet-hold spamming controllers, really hurts some of us. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
That would be horrifically restrictive. Two 41s and a 44 couldn't team together without getting a 4th person that was level 44-45, even though MANY 41s could contribute quite effectively on a team with a 44.
Dwimble
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't bother Dwimble. ScaryJapan has been regurgitating this idea over and over and never listening to reasons why it is not a good one.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you can give a good reason, I'm all ears.
Till then, I believe it's very effective, but you can have your opinion. -
Hey Statesman,
I applaud your effort to stop powerleveling, but instead of using these methods, why not just close the level gap permitted on teams?
Meaning, anything below 2 levels of the highest leveled team member would require sk. -
[ QUOTE ]
The biggest gripe I have about the arena is the "triple damage while held" thing. Especially with sings. The sings just spam holds and that effectively chain mezzes you: even with the immunity. The triple damage makes it worse in that they can kill you in 5 seconds flat....and regen scrappers are still overpowered. Other than that, I don't have any complaints as I know they are bugs that will be fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Problem is, I believe the 15 sec window grants immunity from being spammed the same hold or stun from a specific source.
Meaning, if the same hold is coming from different sources (sings, frosts, etc) you may get chain held.
As for the triple damage, I have yet to see my damage output increase. I don't believe it is actice. -

i think what it boils down to (for me) is this...i should be able to respond to an attack...if my response is ineffective, thats my fault. ok...granted i dont HAVE any break frees (due to no inf on test). even without them i should be able to have SOME kind of response to an attack. (breakfree, being an inspiration, should be OPTIONAL. example...im in a combat, and am missing alot. i COULD is an insight...OR i could keep missing alot and maybe win after a LONG fight...same should apply to break free). now, if u use breakfree i improve my response. but without it it should still be possible. it may be that just fixing the perma taunt and passive thing may be enough. i dont know. what i DO know is that as it is, its not fun. if it continues to be not fun, i wont participate. (i also have a low pvp tolerance, so its lack of fun may be just me).
[/ QUOTE ]
Go to the live server, stock up on enhances, then copy to test.
Then sell the enhance's, bingo, INFLUENCE.
also, you could look me up, i can give you some inf.
PS. Guys, ROck, scissor etc..
not really, its all based upon many factors, its not chance.
Its mainly mathematics. -

This thread is hilarious, you got people posting in their same post that States said that Hammi's would be at SO level in arena, and then they COMPLAIN the next line that your powers are buffed by 50% instead of 33%.
People people people. A hammied out person will not be nearly as uber as you think. If you have 6 single origins in your attack for dmg, your going to do the same dmg as any one in the arena would do with 6 Hammi's for dmg. WHY?
THEY WORK LIKE SINGLES. They will have better accuracy than you, yes.
But lets face it guys.... your playing D&D PvP. In all reality, LUCK plays a factor in to much of the battles. That guaranteed 5% miss rate. That guaranteed 5% chance to get hit. These things make CoH not a true battle of skill. If you want true skill go play a RTS, like warcraft 3 (with a trusted friend, read further and you'll understand why).
Now look at what people are going to be doing that farm hammi's. They are using respecs to make Haste peramanent with only 4 slots.... SURPRISE AGAIN this player is now gimped vs a single origin build in the arena. Cause their hammi's only recharge at 33%. So they are missing two slots to make haste permanent.
I started participating in the hammi raids at lvl 45, the earliest I could, and being a Dark/Dark/Dark Scrapper, I feel I contribute to all phases of the raid, with Dark Blast, Petrifying Gaze, and of course my Attack line up when Hammi finally gets contained. I want these hammi's to create a Hero that I can run around Paragon's most dangerous areas and throw my self at the most challenging of villians. There is NOTHING any one can do to keep YOU an INDIVIDUAL from getting a hammi, just sit there all calm till hammi is almost dead. Go hit the thing ONCE, and run away. You will get a hammi. Just get level 45, and you can get in. Now should you be allowed into the Hive prior to 45? I don't know, do you really want to play this game, or have everything handed to you on a silver platter? Well? Whats it going to be?
PvP in all online games introduces the following into the community. Jealousy, Hacking, and Name Calling. Your going to have people that buy hammi's on ebay. Your going to have people that buy accounts on ebay. Your going to have people who in the past have kill stealed numerous HO from those who earned them. Your going to have people that now attend every raid with the sole purpose to make them selves more uber than you.
But heres the good news. Who cares its RPG style PvP. Computer is fighting half the battle for you. So the people who are doing all these thing to be A#1 with they're min/maxed build, they are the ones who loose out, cause they think they are actually skilled. *chuckles* Poor fools, they'll never realize its all for fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, Statesman said that within the weight class of levels 45-50, HO's will use all of their included bonuses.
Lower levels though, will act as SO's, like you said. -

I don't mind losing to someone who's a better player. I mind losing to someone's equipment.
[/ QUOTE ]
And when you cut through all this Bushido BS that's the problem right there. And a problem that goes against the very core concept and the big selling pont of coh, it's a game for the casual gamer.
It's a game where we were told we can log in for a couple, do some missions, and we'll still be making progress, it's a game where you didn't have to devote every undying hour keeping up with your crafting, your raids, your camping that special mob for your phat lewt, and have a guild from hell behind you to keep up with everyone else.
I bought coh to get away from the very "hardcore" time sink crap that seems to be praised as what keeps a game alive. As I'll wager a lot of people did who were sick of the EQ and WoW loot/craft/raid mentality, and if things keep going as is will I stay?
BZZT WRONG!
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually It detracts from you in no way. You can play this game anyway you want. In fact i have several toons that I have no plans for other than going through the material slowly with my brother and having some fun PVP with him.
[ QUOTE ]
If coh goes that route I won't hang around to play EQ in tights, I don't camp, don't raid, don't farm, and if that automatically is going to disqualify me like it did in EQ, daoc, and swg, because I didn't have the resources to keep up (specially with pvp in the latter 2) Then I won't bother playing because there's no damn point. and when cov comes out there will persist in being no point, as HO'ed heroes go tearing through the pvp in that as well. I'll spend the 15 a month elsewhere thanks.
But I didn't put in the work you say, so i should be lesser right? BULL**** That's not work, the only thing your vaunted work shows is you have the patience to sit through a slide show 24/7 to farm and camp one mob for an item that's not even related to the skill level of your toon or you. If that's your idea of fun more power to you, cause it sure as hell aint mine. But again to say that players should be rewarded for the very thing coh again tries to discourage (items, farming, and camping) and it needs more of that rather then less just shows one thing, you've got more time on your hands then me, not that you worked any harder.
[/ QUOTE ]
OK I was heavily involved with coming up with the strategies that eventually brought down Hamidon, that took a lot of work, planning and effort, not to mention organizational skills. If you choose not to get accolades or get HO's that doesn't make you lesser, it doesn't make you anything. It's your choice. But don't begrudge someone else who wanted the extra little bits the game had to offer and went for it. It just means they were more interested in some aspects of the game than you and benefited from it. That has no effect on you.
[ QUOTE ]
We both work to get to 50, that's real work, farming and clicking a button every few minutes isn't, that's just stupid. And the fact that i'm being told now that I need to adopt a powergamer mentality for the last 5 levels of my casual game really goes against the grain.
And all it takes is skill to beat the HO user? Again BULL****
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe you should try organizing/participating in these raids before you judge them on hearsay? I have a blast at the raids I have a fun SG with great members, We do try and use many different tactics, and the biggest skill we use is working as a team......but you don't exactly sound like a team player....
[ QUOTE ]
Tell ya what chief, if you think skill is all it takes, take your toon solo, a squishy not a scrapper or tank, walk up to antimatter, and try to solo him.
Now that you've just been royally beaten into the ground 5 seconds later if not outright one shotted, tell me this, how do you think back on the loss, and prepare for a second match with him?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually my 1st combat with him and a team was a loss, then we beat him, Recently I soloed him to a draw, and I am a Blaster. I think that If I can change the terrain a little more, I have a good chance of beating him. (it make take a few tries....)
[ QUOTE ]
answer? You CAN'T. If you're at your max ability (green SO's) and you get whammed down by someone who has more shiny equipment then you (HO are's not work or skill they are equipment period) Then you can't train, you can't prepare, you can't do jack. There's no way to win when by the time my defender finishes her first debuff animation that blaster with 300% damage thanks to HO's and 400% cap with build up has just 2 shotted me.
As with AV's there's no amount of skill that can save you from a one shot, your only choice when someone has a bigger gun, and no amount of training can keep you from dodging the bullet, is to get the same gun he has to level the field. which means being forced to do just as much farming, or you may as well not bother trying again.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a ton of things you can do to lv the playing field, some of the common ones are good use of terrain, and movement powers, and plan ahead with Inspirations.
[ QUOTE ]
Oh and there's no honor in fighting a battle when the outcome is decided before the fight even begins, that's suicide plain and simple.
[/ QUOTE ]
Never been one to care for honor or Bushido, (I like Aikido and believe in some of the mandates but I certainly don't follow any one path) But sometimes it is necessary to take the hit to learn something, or lull someone into false confidence. Many tricks can be pulled off if you let yourself lose once or twice 1st
[ QUOTE ]
No thanks, I'll pass if that's what pvp does bcome.
[/ QUOTE ]
Lots of negativity in your post. If this game isn't what you like thats cool but be sure to judge it for what it is and not what you heard it might be. I really think there's is room in this game for all types of players. (Even the grumpy ones)
[/ QUOTE ]
You said that people farming HO's and becoming stupid powerful doesnt effect us?
We can play the game anyway we want?
Actually, it effects us greatly.
See, for me, I've been playing my character since August of '04, he's now lvl 47.
I don't care if people powerlevel, (I do care about the annoying tells! and the misleading teaming, BIG TIME!), but I have a huge problem with the fact that if I step into the arena, and get wiped by a powerleveled toon, who just happens to be part of a hami SG clic, I will be very pissed.
If you beat me with skill, no problem, good match!
In other words, this does effect the game, and no, we can't play this game any way we want.
I want PvP, been looking forward to it since I started this game, and now, because of this unfair, tedious loot (which I choose not to take part), all of my SKILL and ABILTY will be meaningless.
This is ruining the game. There's no question about this.
The dev's need to find a way to have ALL HO's become SO's of choice in the arena, or some other way to make them more accessable, besides a boring 3 hour chore.
I have done 2 Hamidon raids, and can say they absolutely stink!
Not only does this take ZERO skill, but its drawn out, its laggy and besides, hamidon is not even a fun foe to fight.
I want to step into the arena, have a level battle ground, and may the best HERO win. -
I fought hamidon once, and it was a snoozefest.
People, fighting hammi doesnt really take any skill. You hang in a mob of 50 or so heroes in a bubble, shooting mitos, one after the other, then you go for the main nucleus... WOOHOO big deal!
Thats not skill, thats just a loooong, drawn out slide show.
I have been playing my character (now 47) since august of '04, have gotten pretty much every badge available, i go for all content.
I have learned my character VERY well. I have awesome skill.
I sincerely hope that some powerleved toon, with bad skills, but with tons of HO's, that just happens to be on some hami-horde SG, doesnt wipe the floor with me.
Yes, I could keep fighting hamidon, but honestly, I like to use my skills and its quite boring.
ps. Being victorious at PvE should be about Skill, not about having to constantly farm a blob of jello.
