Quote:Illithid is copyrighted. Mind Flayer, isn't. Nor is the visual iconography of one. There's not? I have a pretty good preconception of what a mind flayer does. Not that you'd be able to make a mind flayer anyway, since it's copyrighted.
Also of related note, D&D can actually release Lovecraftian mythos again.
[ edit ]
Gah, yep, Mind Flayers are a bit more awkward than I expressed [as all cases of Intellectual Property are invariably], however, their iconography isn't 'unique', it is Cthulhoid. More specifically, Wizards makes no attempt to claim ownership over Mind Flayer through existence in other related medium, and has explicitly stated it as not being part of the product identity [whereas Illithid is considered part of product identity]. -
Quote:Exactly, that's why people had been asking for end-game content.Remove progression from the game and you remove the incentive to play it.
That's why folks quit the game after reaching level-cap realizing that all there is left for them to do is "same old stuff" they had been doing up until then anyway.
Inventions introduced a minor gear-grind, but ultimately, it wasn't directed, just a simple game of progress-quest. -
I believe it's the difference of perceiving the system as a failure without it as opposed to thinking it could be a good component.
-
It's odd for me, since the NCSoftLauncher actually uses less resources than the CoHUpdater [53,696 K versus 4,976 K]. Now, memory really isn't all that important, and most of that difference I imagine is because it got freed from IE.

Quote:The level-gating of SGs happens not really because of 'end game' stuff, but because of the sg member limit. Back in happy fun pre-prestige time, I knew a handful of 'superlarge' [read as, multiple SGs with linked names] that did it that way. Initially after Prestige it changed a bit in dynamics because the lower levels actually contribute more to the prestige farm than higher level characters, that has since changed [obviouslyI do wonder if we'll see the rise of 'leet' Raiding SGs, with membership application processes and raiding schedules and all the stuff the 800lb Gorilla is famous/notorious for.
I can see it happening, especially on Freedom and/or Virtue. First time we see someone in AP looking for only level 50 recruits for their SG we'll know we've really entered the Raid era.
Or if someone invents the CoH equivalent of... Gearscore...].
Also, I'd seriously suggest it was more of perceived pressure than actual [although it's possible people are stoopid jerks] with regards to when Psyche was the weekly. -

Quote:Actually, since Prometheus is in Ouroborus, that makes him both Heroic and Villain, much like Mender Silos. And now Prometheus is being added to the game as a contact/guide for the new co-op content - which is also about protecting and saving people and palces from the evil loyalists.
Co-op content is always heroic, because Villains might do something good in the hope of being able to do something evil later, but Heroes will only ever do good things. -
Personally, I'd rather get the feedback. Of course, you make a good point, perhaps a means to auto-ignore/auto-dump feedback would be useful for some too.
-
I like the idea, numbers may well need shuffling, but that's really the realm of someone who has access to the numbers anyway
.
I dislike time-gates, but given the disparity in power levels amongst individual characters, it's a necessary evil to maintain some rate-consistency. -

Me? Not really. Doesn't bug me that much, and frankly the calls to uncouple Incarnate system from the Well/Praetoria storyline are something I'm actively against. I don't think it would be well served to draw out the time between issues even more painfully than they are now.

Quote:Although, you didn't have to beat the K-bot from what I recall. It even had some nice alternate souvenir text if you didn't [even the weakened form later on].Plus that Kronos monster class in that one mission
Thats a toughie solo
But back in the early days, it sucks rather harshly to try to solo as a [most] controller before level 32. After 32, it was a joke because of perma-hasten + triple pet casts, but gah I remember how painful some missions were [Oh noes! Two bosses, I r teh bonzed]. It has improved a lot though. And this is a good thing.
Personally though, I'm ok with the ladder to the 'last level' being solo friendly, while the end-game is group/raid orientated. Now, the fake levels out of level shifts do make it awkward and different, but personally I just consider them another factor of a buff. I do understand that other people view them differently however. -
One thing that I've found kinda neat from Other Games is the concept of episodic content. Even with huge gaps, it creates a routine pace of new stuff. Even without the 'new stuff' gimmicks that other games use, I think something similar would be great, just to have new stories.
-
Quote:Well, I imagine that was a bug fix, but it is odd to mention it on the overview. We will, that much is for certain, but we've had a lot of Issues without costume additions. Far too many in my opinion, in fact, but I20 is far from unprecedented.
On the flip side, costumes could go a long way towards making me quite a bit less disappointed with the features list. Let's hope they were left out.
Though, one wonders why costumes and story arcs would have been left out but respec badges left in. -
Quote:Thank you, Much of it did look like melee powersets (and coping with trying to keep some 'difference' between the melee ATs) to me, I just really didn't think of traps for Controllers, and it would be a nice addition there. MM Kin may be wishing a bit too high though, but given that Castle isn't with the company anymore, it's possible I suppose.Illusion Doms.
Energy Melee for Scrappers
Ice for Brutes.
Traps for Controllers.
Kinetics for Masterminds
I could go on, but that's just off the tip of my head.
Powerset Prolif is no way near finished in potential.
And just to clarify, I'd like to see more of those gaps closed [properly], I just see a lack of low-hanging fruit to do so.
Quote:A lot of stuff is not finished in proliferation:
Illusion doms, martial arts secondary for blasters, psy blast for corruptors...
But hey ok, leave proliferation alone.
What about finishing power customization? Pools, APP/PPP, Masterminds...
Theres a lot of stuff that I would love to see done, and day never comes.
I cant quit, and I dont want. But is sad waiting all time for devs to release something of my taste... I feel like always waiting for next issue, to be dissapointed again. -
Quote:If you do quit, put the reason why and fill out the exit surveyI was trolling in another thread before... And Im still dissapointed.
But...
We gonna get 4 levels of Incarnate: Interface, Lore, Jugdment and Destiny.
New TF and trials...
Also the new loading screens are in test. And they are very nice.
To me the most important content are:
Costumes, powers and customization.
More than new TFs and Endgame. Thats why Im down with I20... I wanted some proliferation, upgraded and new costume pieces, pool customization...
Is a bit frustrating to some of us to always "keep waiting" for the things we care more. Im even ok with paid boosters, but even in that matter they dont release what Im waiting for.
Patience, I guess, or quit for a while....
On the note of proliferation, just curious what else is left? I see some [mostly stuff amongst the melee damage powersets], just really curious as to what you're looking for in proliferation. -
Quote:Yep, that's what I meant coolBy completing either trial you now unlock the incarnate tree if you had not done so via Ramiel.
.
Quote:I think there's a good thing in that it appears that you can skip Ramiel now to go down the Incarnate path, and just be in a special experience progression.
Should make it easier for folks to ignore the Well back-story should they wish too.
On the other hand, it does appear the text on the Lore powers explicitly states that it's from the Well. So one step forward, one step back. At least it's only fluff text, I guess about as easy to hand-wave as the text for enhancements. -

Quote:40 would be when, blue-side at least, you start to get access to the Praetorian Story Arcs.20 is the magic level right now fo several reasons, but is 40 special in any way? Like if they were going to have the 15 level spread of a 35-50, the new TFs would be 20-35 - so is there something important at 40 that could be the reason for them having a 20-40 spread for the new TFs?
It also lets it have a 'wide range' in the leveling ranges and not get preempted by level-shifted Incarnates to being an effective 50 TF.
[ edit ]
Now for a fun thought that'll continue to piss people off.
I'd like for there to be a red-side parallel to the (new) Praetorian Arcs. -
Quote:Brief summary. This is a pointless argument, because ANYTHING they focus on is going to have players riding around in the whaambulance if it doesn't happen to be their particular cup of tea.
On an unrelated note, can someone post all the info in the thread? The main site is blocked for me here at work.
Incarnate Trials: BAF and Lambda Sector and explanations there of. Lambda appears to be focused on taking down some of the Warworks with Marauder there to beat you up. BAF is well detailed elsewhere on the boards.
Two new taskforces 20-40: Hero one is dealing with Praetoria Duray and Primal Duray trying to establish a beachhead for Cole. Villain one is about stealing the Flames of Prometheus (Midnight Squad, the Circle of Thorns, the Warriors, and the Freedom Phalanx stated as enemy groups).
And I just noticed, Warriors... That should be neat.
League/Turnstile system detailed some more.
'Fixed' the respec badges with Heroes/Villains [you can collect both sets, but still appear limited to 3 earned specs].
Additional Black Helicopters added red-side to ease travel, given that they specify Nerva, I suspect one of them is off in Northern Nerva. -
Quote:I think Issue 2 trumps you on that thoughI so totally called that ages ago - back in the GR beta, in fact
.
Maria Jenkins old arc, considering that Battle Maiden is not actually from Praetoria.
The Flames of Prometheus I'm awkward on. The comic was pretty awesome yes. However, I'm left wondering then, if that comic was canon, why was the Freedom Phalanx depowered by Cole? Guessing that the power from the Flames is not going to be enough 'on the path' to be considered Incarnate, especially given it's level range. -

Had my hopes set too high when I saw the topic. Was thinking floating in air.
Still, it's pretty cool. -

Quote:It's also annoying how Technology heroes get pushed to utilizing Portacio Industries hardware.Well of course, I want more arcs at the level 50 cap, because it's always nice to have more stuff to do, but more importantly is the sense of character progression being tied into the story. If my Natural origin Super Reflexes Scrapper isn't good enough to dodge Hro'dotz's sword, she can go "practice" until she's better. If my Traps Corruptor's gadgets aren't up the task of defeating Rikti and Nemesis ambushes, he can go back to the drawing board and improve on them. If my Assault Rifle Blaster isn't good enough to shoot Tyrant in the face, she has to go to the Well for help, because the game has told us that we can't improve our skills in any other way.
Or how some people get forced down the path of utilizing the power of Hamidon to improve. Or just being forced to 'invent' something that is often another signature character's power.
It's also awkward how pretty much all natural heroes apparently were expected to study the various dragon forms of martial arts, or just again mimic a tech origin signature hero.
