Quote:David will you be doing any art at PAX East? Many moons ago, during the COV launch, I went on a press tour with the COH crew that included stops in Pennsylvania and New York. Had a great time, and I'm so glad we'll get the chance to visit the East Coast again next month. Really looking forward to the show and to seeing you guys at the Meet n' Greet. We've got so much juicy new stuff to share with you guys, and it kills me that I have to wait 'til the end of March to say anything else on the topic.
Anyway, see you then! -
Quote:Thanks, I honestly know nothing about Dragon con beyond what I could get out of their website and wikipedia. I still think NCSoft going to PAX is probably related to the sheer number of people 60K since it almost matches the size of PAX West, and the fact that is a very narrow focus on gaming. 60K however is a gigantic number for a east coast event, especially in its first year. I mean NY Comic Con pulled 77K last year, but the first year they only managed 30K.Actually dragon con does have an MMO track and quite a following. The panel that was scheduled for City of heros during the last dragon con was standing room only and we didnt even have any official representation just some journalists as our panel leaders with no information fresher than what we the players ourselves knew from reading the boards. If there was going to be official representation and it was known well in advance i can see many east coasters making the trip to Atlanta for this opportunity making the attendence just for a COH Panel even bigger than it was last year.
So not trying to poopoo on Dragon Con, I've never been, but PAX is entirely focused on nothing but gaming. Its not a fan gathering, its not a comic event, its games. I honestly had zero idea anything gaming wise went on at Dragon Con aside from Sci-Fi or Fantasy based fan stuff, meet actors, discuss your favorite series, get autographs. They seem to advertise more as a fan convention then as a exposition. And thats probably the key difference. -
I plan to tweet from PAX and I'll probably see if I can manage a decent video camera by then, if not I'll be passing on anything that isn't under a NDA.

Quote:I am going to take a guess Tony and say they are coming to PAX specifically because the event has sold out with a very large number of people. And PAX is a gamer expo, its a bit more closely related to what Paragon Studios and NCSoft does.Okay, first of all, I really do appreciate the fact that you're coming to the East Coast. This has been a sore bone of contention for me for a long time, that West Coasters have been able to get all of this fancy swag because NCsoft/Paragon Studios has been all up and down that coast. San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle... It's apparently really handy in-game perk-wise to have a zip code in the nines.
Having said that, I really do consider it a flub that you announced that you're going to be at an event only after it's impossible for us to actually be able get into the event. If I lived in Boston, I'd be very sorely disappointed if I couldn't get to this panel. Nevertheless, I'm really glad that you're having the meet-and-greet. And yes, to others who have posted here, I can't imagine that it would be at the event; it will almost certainly have to be at some third-party location where you don't actually have to have an event pass to attend.
Having said all that, I don't live in Boston, I live in Atlanta. It would be cheaper for me to get to Boston than the West Coast, but considering that I'd only be going for four hours or so of activities, I just can't justify spending the hundreds of dollars it would take for me to go. I'm not griping; on the contrary, what I'm getting at is that I hope that this is a new push towards trying to reach more fans.
If I can be a salesman for our fair city for a minute, Atlanta has a HUGE event every year called Dragon*Con over Labor Day weekend that would reach a large number of existing and potential new players, it is a major regional hub of the entire Southeast (Hartsfield-Jackson is the world's busiest airport; both Delta Airlines and AirTran are based here, as is UPS if you're really cheap), it's spread out and easily accessible for a major city, it has a lot of nice amenities, the weather that time of year is just gorgeous, and there would be a TON of stuff for visitors to do other than convention-related stuff if they want to make an actual vacation of it (CNN world headquarters is within walking distance, as is the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, and lots of other neat stuff).
Anyway, like I said, I really am glad to see Paragon Studios stepping a few degrees off the longitude they've been so huggy on in the past.
Dragon Con by comparison is just a Sci-fi/Fantasy event AFAIK, does it even get a large focus on gaming? I don't seem to get that feeling from the Dragon Con website.
They're also expecting 60,000 people for PAX East. Thats nearly double the 30K for Dragon Con.
As someone who works for a company that both runs and attends major trade shows and conferences its not cheap to do, its very expensive. It costs you labor time, travel cost and whatever the space fee is. Its a very tough call for companies to choose what events are worth attending.
There is also tons to do in Boston, its a great city, wonderful mass transit and a lot of history. I've been there twice myself and barely scratched the surface. Atlanta is way to darn hot, especially anytime near summer. -
WOOO!
So glad now I got my passes for PAX East definitely going to the panel and can't wait for a chance to thank the devs personally for Dual Pistols.
This has totally made my week!
Edit I'll note that I made plans to go ages ago we got our tickets back in like November. Once I heard they were close to selling out I was hoping and hoping NCSoft was going to come. I just hope this shows companies its worth coming to the east coast too. -
Just a two ideas and well i got a love on for Heckler & Koch guns. And well the MK23 Mod0 was the first offensive handgun.

Quote:I admitted the name was lame. I just couldn't come up with anything and it got the idea across. The name Self Defense IMO isn't a bad one that was offered. If you're really going to go forward with this, first, drop the "Manipulation." It's silly in this context, an artifact of when blaster secondaries were mostly elemental powers. We don't have "Device Manipulation."
It's still, IMO, an attempt to shove/sneak Pistol Scrapping into the Blaster AT/powersets, and I think I will actually be disappointed if the Devs end up allowing it.
Honestly if you're upset with blasters scrapping you should have been long upset over every other blaster secondary that provides melee attacks, which is... pretty much all of them except Dev AFAIK. NRG is just the biggest offender when it comes to being a blapper.
But if blasters didn't have blapping sets prior the term Blapper wouldn't even exist.
Honestly I want a set like this for a single kick/knockback and utility powers. I don't need all of the kicks, though a sweeping knockdown like dragon's tail would be nice. I just don't want to be stuck to using "gadgets" or have glowing hands to be a natural theme character. And I think thats really the motivation behind something like this, because we're surely not going to get a secondary like the VEAT secondary powers.
I'm also even ok with the redraw though I know some aren't. -
Thanks Niviene for the thread move!

Alright since we're open now I'm going to ask Niviene to move this thread to the public suggestions forum.

Quote:I did call it a pipe dream. I will admit initially I was "not going to happen" on the idea. But really the more I thought on it and saw the discussion go further the more I realized it wasn't too far off considering how /nrg is set up for blasters.Still trying to get Pistol Scrappers in through the back door, eh?
Give it up, folks. I wanted it too, believe me, but the Devs have made it abundantly clear over the years that it's not going to happen.
Only difference is kicks rather then punching. -
Quote:Oh, Aim was probably the wrong thing to say. Sorry half asleep and had a long long day at work so my wording is way off.Quickness sounds like a good, attractive, and adaptable power for a blaster secondary. I'll meekly mention that I'm not sure that another version of Aim in a blaster secondary is balanced when the primary set will already have it.
Let me give my sleep addled brain a moment to try and quantify a bit more what i meant.
I think I was thinking more along the lines of the veat power, combat training: offensive that gives you an auto buff to accuracy. But maybe something that gave a minor buff to accuracy and perception. Kinda like you've obviously spend tons of time training so you're more aware of your surroundings. Could even be a toggle like targeting drone is rather then a auto power. -
Quote:Yeah but people are also recommending things that go a bit beyond that >_>But blasters device secondary has "cloaking device" which grants 1.75 to base.
I personally feel defensive powers for blasters should remain primarily something you get as an epic power.
A lot of people are also venturing away from the natural theme. Its not meant to be a "gadget" set. I hesitated for a while before using Caltrops, because its a "device". I will admit some of the other ideas I've seen here aren't bad.
But I guess its just me, I don't see pulling off a stealth type power as a natural without some sort of gimmick/gadget. A minor version of Quickness renamed as combat training wouldn't be bad though. And I could see a version of Aim that was renamed as combat awareness that increased your accuracy. -
Quote:As someone else said, Devices gets a power that does just that.I mean a stealth power that doesn't suppress the stealth when you attack. This is not like power pool Stealth, which loses all of its stealth when you attack, leaving you with only a minor defense boost. Dark Armor, Dark Miasma, Illusion, Energy Aura, Cold Domination, Storm Summoning, and maybe some others I've missed all have a stealth power that doesn't suppress when you attack. In fact as I said, every AT except Blasters has access to at least one such power.
Cloaking Device: The Cloaking Device allows you to use a LCD body coating become partially invisible. While Cloaked you can only be seen at very close range. IF you attack while Cloaked, you will be discovered. Even if discovered, you are hard to see but will retain some of your defense bonus to all attacks. Unlike some stealth powers, the Cloaking Device has no movement penalty. The Cloaking device will not work with any other form of Concealment power such as Shadow Fall or Steamy Mist.
My AR/Dev has it, it stacks nicely with a IO stealth.
Also this thread has gone many places I never thought it would. Hopefully have time in a bit for more of a post. -
Quote:This, it also helps that I run my own groups with a strong basis in story. I was actually involved in more then a few old school Hyperion Force story arcs with my old main Ava Adore. This as well. My SG runs awesome story arcs that takes weeks to play out and resolve. We have a great core group of players that have vivid imaginations. An absolute pleasure to be with and be a part of.
Check out Virtueverse, ask people for tips on recommendation for story based groups. You could even start your own or ask here if you had a particular theme you were looking for. All it takes is a little bit of motivation. -
Ah yes I knew someone had mentioned something but for the life of me I couldn't remember and wasn't chat logging on that toon. But self defense would work.
-
Quote:I'm somewhat sad Talen. Thats all you could offer me for trolling? I feel unloved.Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a forum for people to suggest things like this? Even if they weren't necessarily to be done for the sake of developer attention, but even just so the people suggeting them could have fun making suggestions like this, just suggesting for suggestion's sake?
I posted the idea here since it directly related to something in closed beta. I lean more towards over precautions when it comes to NDA. If any of the mods feels this topic is better suited for the main forums suggestion boards I'll happily move it and have this one closed. -
Quote:Its the same amount of Melee attacks as EM for blasters. I literally matched the set power for power with EM.At first glance, it looks like a lot of melee attacks. I'd probably trim one of those and add some sort of boost, possibly a watered down combo of EM's boosts.
Also at first glance, it looks like marital manipulation. -
Quote:I could also get behind this as well. But I'd really enjoy the MA set more I think. /nrg feels more like a brawling set.Could just give Energy Manipulation the "No FX" treatment and call it a day. >.>
Quote:Originally Posted by PsyteI wouldn't mind seeing Energy Manipulation's "Power Boost" added in there somewhere, but not sure what to take out. -
Quote:Thing is, something like that doesn't make as much sense in a natural powerset. It would be easy enough to give Smoke Flash a different secondary effect. Maybe like smoke bomb does, -Perception, -To-Hit? But uses the animation of Smoke Flash and acts as a pbaoe rather then a targeted AoE?Hmm, I like it. But it feels like there's too many MA attacks in there? Maybe replace one of the first two with something else? I know, I know. Energy Manip has about as many. But the REST of that set is just build up like powers and a melee stun. Your Martial set is fairly control heavy.
It might be too much to have both heavy melee and control in one set. ...Or maybe I'm misjudging it *shrug.*
Personally, I'd throw in something unique. They've been rather stingy with the Placates, so blasters might be banned from having them. So. drop that and replace it with... Click, maybe toggle, that drains recharge/speed from foes and gives Blaster +speed/recharge per target. ie. a bullet time power. Comparable to Consume or that Mental power that drains end/regen.
I don't really think there is a lot of control in there, Caltrop is an ok control power and a pbaoe placate is only as good as the amount of guys it hits, same with the blinding powder. Those powers are nice on a stalker but not something you rely on working all the time on everyone.
Maybe I'm wrong thats just from my own experience with ninjitsu. -
Quote:I didn't pick Eagle's Claw because its a very long animation time and I don't think any of the blaster tier 9's for secondaries have a long animation. I went with Dragon's Tail because it seemed that the higher level blaster secondaries are more for mitigation. Dragon's tail is a nice knock down power and does a decent amount of damage plus its fairly fast.I was having a discussion with someone about this in the broadcast channel in Atlas Park this morning.
I think having a more Natural-based Blaster Secondary to compliment Dual Pistols would be excellent. As it is, DP has a serious gun-fu vibe to it, but following up something like Bullet Rain or Piercing Rounds with, say, Web Grenade, kind of ruins the feel.
As far as what you have here, I'd beg for Eagle's Claw as the Tier 9 instead of Dragon's Tail, but I understand your point. -
So lame name aside, sorry I couldn't come up with anything cooler, my thinking is that we're really lacking for Natural based secondaries for blasters. So my suggestion is a martial arts style secondary combining powers from Martial Arts and Ninjitsu and styling the set after the Energy Manipulation secondary for blasters. In other words very much a blapper style secondary.
Obviously numbers for this set would need to be modified to match blaster damage and effects rather then a stalker or a scrapper. This set is also based on a conversation I had early on in Beta with a few other people in the beta testers channel, unfortunately I don't remember names.
And no I'm not asking for this right now, I'm just presenting the idea for consideration. I think having dual pistols now we really do need more blaster secondaries. And I would personally love something thats more natural and less tech then devices.
Feel free to flame as necessary ^_^ I'm allowed my pipe dreams!
Martial Manipulation
1 - Thunder Kick, Melee, Minor DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient
2 - Storm Kick, Melee, Moderate DMG(Smash)
4 - Focus Chi, Self +DMG, +To-Hit
10 - Crane Kick, Melee, High DMG(Smash), Foe Knockback
16 - Caltrops, Ranged (Location AoE), Minor DoT(Lethal), Foe -SPD, -Jump
20 - Cobra Strike, Melee, Minor DMG(Smash), Foe Disorient
28 - Smoke Flash, PBAoE, Foe Placate
35 - Blinding Powder, Ranged (Cone), Foe Sleep, Confuse, -To-Hit, -Perception
38 - Dragon's Tail, PBAoE, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown
Notes:- I considered a stealth power for this like Devices gets, but I don't know if its really fits thematically but it could be placed where Blinding Powder is.
- I also considered something more exotic for level 38, but I think Dragon's tail fits as long as the damage type is raised to meet the other Blaster secondary level 38 powers.
Edits:
Name recommendations - Self Defense, Street Fighting, Combat Training, Combat Manipulation
I'll edit this in a bit to include some of the other power ideas people had, there are a lot. >_< -
Quote:Not true, they're pulling people from those groups at random for this.If you went to HeroCon, you're the correct Veteran program level, or you got the loyalty program badges, you can get in for this.

I'm part of the loyalty program and don't have access. My other half is part of both the loyalty program and a veteran and can't access. -
Glad to see the Hyperion Force is still going!

Quote:My best suggestion?Just about finished with my base outline forXeden's page. Pictures, and full history are now just about finished up to current.
I don't wanna dig around through the near-30 pasges of this thread, but does anyone know where one such as myself can find info for borders, tables, et cetera? I want to spice my page up a notch, but I'm terrible with html and all that.
Look at the wiki text behind a page with a style you like for an idea. Most of the more colorful design work is done with a combination of Wikitext, HTML Tags and Inline CSS.
If you have HTML and CSS experience you'll probably pick it up just by looking at what someone else has done. If not, well practice makes perfect. Feel free if it helps to use any of the layouts on my pages for practice. They aren't fancy and are fairly straight forward without tons of style images. There are links to a couple pages of mine in my signature.
I'm also happy to help if you have specific questions.
