OK, guys, thx for your answers.
Clearly, on the long term, I'll keep self aid and I'll get stamina. I was just trying to see how I should prioritize between these two as I won't be lvl 50 any time soon (I don't have so much leveling time). I guess I'll stick with self aid and see how I'm doing in the arena and if I need to respec.
On the long term as well, I'll take acrobatics, which implies staying with super jump.
For now, I'll just try to learn how to use my unlotted self aid

First, let me say again that all tips were very good and that I'm delighted with my Ice/Energy blaster, thanks so much for the good guidance.
But some time has passed and I'm nearing the first respec TF.
I currently have self aid which heals 120 at lvl 23. The problem is that it does not activate very fast and is interruptible, so I am not sure how useful it would be in pvp.
To the contrary, I am pretty convinced that stamina would help greatly because I always miss endurance, unless I am buffed.
I am thus considering ditching stimulant and self aid (together with Ice Storm which I use seldom in pve and won't use in pvp), in order to take swift, health and stamina (health might even somehow compensate for the loss of self aid?).
What do you think of this?
Also, I'm happy with super jump, but I use either super jump (outdoor) or combat jump (indoor), not both. Should I rather take super speed, coming with hasten which would be useful in all circumstances? How bad would it be to loose the verticality of super jump, from a pvp perspective?
Thanks for your advice,
nostra -
Cool Hammerfall, I'll try to contact you asap (tonight if I'm not working late).
Alvan, I'm not worried about you. Seeing how many character you have, I'm sure you'll be lvl 20+ next time I play
BTW, both of you are from Finland... funny, seems that the Finnish community is strong in all pvp worlds (I was playing Guild Wards in a Finnish-lead guild).
See you soon,

Answer to the three of you: Defiant.
Sorry I forgot to mention it. Edited my post and also added my time zone info and my global name.
And oh... thanks for the quick reply, I'll be sure to try and contact you!

Hey,
Let's play with open cards, he's an Ice/Energy blaster, lvl 23.
I'm new to the game, so don't be afraid to meet a roxxor player with all the flashy enhancements or whatever else I don't even know. My character isn't pvp optimized either, he'll come as I'm leveling him right now.
Just posting because I heard you need to arrange arena fights beforehand and I can't really meet anyone willing to pvp in Bloody Bay. Tell me if you're interested (and tell me when and where we can meet).
Edit: another proof I'm a noob, I forgot to mention I'm on Defiant. Thanks for pointing it out.
Another important point: I'm in Europ, so usually playing from about 7 pm - 12 am European time or 1 pm - 6 pm East Coast time. If you're in the US, maybe we can meet during weekends.
Finally: you can reach me @Mephys
Thanks

Super tips, I'll do that, thanks Mr. General
As for the slots... yeah, I got the crappy ones, but nevermind, I don't mind taking a beating, it's for fun and the learning experience

I went to Bloody Bay and I did an easy mission (patroling the streets) but I met no villain. Is there a specific place I should go to meet more villains or is it just that I am too low lvl?

Great, thanks.
And to answer the question I forgot to address earlier, yes, I am on Defiant (I was told it's slightly more pvp oriented)Sorry, I can't do anything before having first opened a poll and asked 10 questions to make sure it's going to be right

My God, big brother is watching the noobs
Anyway, thx for the great info Jummy!
BTW, I've already seen people speaking of SK in games but never had the opportunity to ask what it means... also, what's the meaning of exemption in this context?
Extremus,
Thanks for the thread on lvl 21 pvping, I'll check that closely.
Thanks,

Hi,
The game manual says very little about pvp. Are the fights oragnized by weight categories. For instance, I am now featherweight, does it mean I will only encounter other featherweights if I enter the arena?
If so, this means I can start to pvp even if I'm only lvl 15 I guess
Thanks for your answer,
nostra -
Thanks for the two replies.
I'll give a try to frost breath, then.
Ice storm however is very weird. It hits on a large zone and with 1 damage repeated very quickly, but I can't really see the life of the mobs dropping. The main advantage is that foes in the zone are slowed and they usually stop whatever they're doing to flee from the zone, so it's a couple of seconds during which the whole crowed runs while we hit them. I'm sure this can help to dispose of a few of them quickly and turn the tide of a close battle. Problem is, it seems to generate serious aggro (I usually have half the surviving crowed on my back after an ice storm). What I have learnt to do is NOT cast it at the very beginning of a fight BUT rather let the others get some aggro before I launch ice storm and then it's usually enough for me not to get too much aggro. Any other tip?
BTW, speaking of AoE powers... I am not very impressed by ice storms. Are the other storms/blizzards, etc... better?
As for power thrust, I've already slotted it, so I'll just stay with 2 acc and 1 recred and it'll be perfect for its purpose (send foes flying).
Thanks guys!
nostra -
Thanks Hammerfall.
Knocking back people is enough for me, especially those nasty melee fighters that slap me for insane damage. I'll definitely mod this power with acc, as you did. Thanks.
And, yes, I'll get rid of Ice Storm and take Bonesmasher. At least now I know why I'm doing it (nice to experience things as there are these free respec).
As for Frost Breath, after testing the lower version on mobs that were not moving much, I guess it's totally unusable against moving pvpers. A pass for me.
Thanks for the feedback,

Hi Empath,
I hope you don't mind me getting inspiration for my build from your own (I am now leveling but I am already thinking pvp).
I see that you modded Energy Punch quite early and was wondering why Power Thrust gets modded so late. Isn't it a good close range power? (as far as I could experience, it seems to work more or less as well as Energy Punch, with a nice KB effect).
I took Ice Storm instead of Bonesmasher to test it and I must admit that the damages are minimal but the aggro very high, so I guess I'll drop it at the first respec.
I see you take Frost Breath (I guess it's a cone effect power) and I was wondering how easy to use it is. Just asking because I tried the lower version of this power (can't remember the name) and I found it hard to use and I very rarely managed to hit more than one opponent. Any experience with that?
Any guidance would be most helpful,

That depends on where you train, there's a trainer in every city zone after allOh, and badges aren't generally considered spoilers.

Good point, I was thinking of this charming young lady who's been by my side since security level 1. That should be clear enough

I feel bad to do something that could be seen as "bumping" my topic... but it's not so deep in the board (only 2nd line actually!) so I'll do it anyway.
Haven't had time to play much due to heavy work load all week (and weekend!) long, but I still managed to hit 14.
I have somewhow deviated from the suggested template (page 1) in order to experience more fun things (among which Ice Strom, which doesn't rock but is fun and definitely has its uses).
I have however followed the mainstream advice regarding travel powers, i.e.:
- combat jumping: this is great in dungeons, allows to jump up balconies and stuff and provides additional defense, a very good choice!
- super jump: I LOVE it... allows jumping insane distances (and honorable heights) to travel fast and more or less wherever I want.
I would never have made this choice on my own, so THANKS a lot to the kind posters who have walked me on this most judicious path!
Now, my tiny contribution to the community (in case another noob reads this post - hope this is not too much of a spoiler, if so my apologies to the moderator and feel free to edit my post): if you get super jump (will also work with at least another travel power), try it close to the NPC who trained you to lvl 14, go to cool places you couldn't reach before and you'll be rewarded for your exploration

Thanks all for the great advice. You have successfully taken me from the absolut-noob status to the regular-noob one

at 50 I can happily respec to get the strongest build, but 1-50 for me is about learning the powers and their tactics and playstyle.

And thanks to... BindWfor the wise word of the end: I will indeed experience as many powers as possible to make the best of my build by the time I hit 50.
See y'all on the battlefield!

Thanks for the answers.
This is not very encouraging. What's the strong side of corruptors then? Is there a point in making one for pvp or should I stick with my ice/energy blaster?
Thanks
nostra -
Hello,
I am new to the game and wanted to know if it is possible to make a build based on drains? Like tones of life drains (and others if possible, like end...).
Would it be a Dark/Dark build? Any suggestion on that, as I have no idea whatsoever how corruptors work?
Please note this is with a strong pvp perspective.
Thanks very much in advance for your insight,
nostra -
Interesting points, thanks!
God, half of these powers from the power pools would be REALLY nice on my blaster... life involves really hard choices

Attacks that throw you half way accross the room and land you on your bum.

Thanks for the clarifications!
And, btw, that's how I understood it before. My energy attacks, the description of which mentions a "disorienting" effect, have in reality a knockback effect.
So back to where I stopped to ask this question: if this is what we mean with "knockback", how would Flight superiority be a protection against knockback? Isn't it rather Acrobatics that provides protection against knockback?
If yes, then I can drop air superiority but need to keep accrobatics (and not the other way around).
Unless I'm missing something, again (and making a fool of myself again), which I start getting used to
nostra -
Ok, so I assume I have another noob question: what's the knockback effect? It's not like the disorientation caused by the energy attacks?
nostra -

Air Superiority is nice, but by no means necessary. If you want to take an alternate route ... here is a variation of what I have on my AR/Ice Blaster:
FLIGHT:
Air Superiority
Hover
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess you meant that Acrobatics is by no means necessary?
Thanks for the alternative anyway, I'll give it full consideration.
nostra -
Okton, MaXimillion, thanks for the helpful clarification.
My travel power will be super jump, so I need a tier 1/2 power as prerequisite and I chose combat jumping. I was told that acrobatics is crucial to protect against knockbacks, so that is already 3 powers to take:
COMBAT JUMPING 2
SUPER JUMP 3
ACROBATICS 4
At the present time, I have mostly accuracy/damage slots (no end.) and I am running out of endurance some times if I chain mobs. I was therefore thinking I should take stamina in order to be cool with endurance even with the added consumption due to super jump. The problem is, that means another 3 powers to take (total 6):
SWIFT 1
HURDLE 2
STAMINA 4
Another power I was told is super useful (and I can imagine it is based on my experience with other games) is self heal, which comes with a prerequisite, thus another 2 powers (total 8):
STIMULANT 2
HEAL SELF 3
And still, this does not include air superiority, which I was told is also very useful... nor hasten, which I can imagine is great... nor some form of invisibility, which just sounds cool to me (and probably a life saver in some instances?). Three powers which I would like to take but understood I can take only one as they are in different poools. Let's say I choose one pool and take two powers from it, totalling 10 powers.
How does that sound to you? reasonable, excessive, unsufficient?
Thanks,
nostra
