    A good tattoo artist can work with you on this. If within 60 miles of Baltimore, go see Dave Reagan at saints and sinners, he's great. He also does amazing metallic looking stuff.

    I live in central IL unfortunately <;_;>

    Does this work?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Okies Derek <^_^> In looking your stuffs over, here are some things I personally notice:

    1; you have a decent start; but I think most of it you just work too fast, I mentioned that in another thread already >< But I really think you could do great things if you can slow down hehe <^_^> putting out a ton of work is great - but putting out half as much work and doing it twice as good is even better! <^.~>b Speed will come in time even if you're working for quality.

    2; To get more specific, do you pencil your work at all, or does it start as inkwork? I can't tell from what I'm seeing, but that's pretty standard since you'd remove any pencil marks before putting it up.

    I'm *guessing* not though; ignore this advice if I'm off! <,<;

    I recommend doing one of two things - one of which I can tell you how to do, the other of which you'll have to find someone else to explain >< cause its not how I do it; but it certainly works for some folks.

    The first option, is to do a light not-too-detailed pencil sketch, starting out with a basic stick-figure frame. I'm obviously not the best in the world >.> But there are other people who do it this way as well. The idea is to build a complex stick figure, and then flesh it out. Ie: you start with the backbone, then add a line at about 3/4-2/3s the way up where the shoulders will be (this can change with style, body proportion, angle, etc...)

    Then another line where the hips would be

    From there you take lines from each shoulder (which you can easily indicate with a circle at each joint), and extending to the elbows then wrists and hands. (You actually do pretty decent hands, rough, but you've got a decent basis on them - which is far better than I can say for myself - I *suck* at hands)

    Do the same for the legs, a line from the hips to the knees, then knees to ankles, then ankles to feet.

    All you gotta do then is give the stick figure some meat (consider the lines you've done already to be your 'bones') - after that, you dress em <@_@>b

    This is how I personally draw, I'm not great at it or anything, but its what I found has worked for me - and it helps give a better sense of proportion.

    The other way is gestural drawing - I know only vague bits about it; it seems to be a technique that relies on keeping the pencil moving so that while you may make minor mistakes - they blend into the picture and end up adding depth rather than subtracting from the picture.

    I really can't tell you how to do it though cause I don't draw that way >.> Someone else can explain it much better

    Anyways, I think mostly you've just jumped into the deep end (inks, computer coloring) before getting some of the more basic foundational stuff down (simple pencil sketches, proportions).

    Hardly an uncommon thing <'x'>

    I think you've got alot of ability though <^_^> its just a matter of practice and learning some techniques that don't just immediately pop out at people as 'obvious' (The whole skeletal drawing system I only figured out due to art books >.> - I never would have learned without em!)

    <. .> Anyways, I hope that helps some Derek <^.^>m
  13. Yeah, I think now is good hehe <^_^> I was going to starta new thread, but I think this is going to be good just as it is! (Thanks everyone!)

    This is my Photobucket - All comments welcome <~_~>b Alot of this work you've obviously seen, but comments on the body as a whole is definitely going to help me as I go forward.

    I'll use another post to look at Derek's work <@_@>

  18. Hehe cool <^_^> I'm glad to get some comments; I just noticed some people seemed to be struggling, and I think its just that when your only commentary is piece by piece, its hard to put it together and change your overall style to improve as a whole. (Sometimes it works - but not always, ya know? <,&lt

    If a few more people think its a good idea, I'll start the thread later <'x'> <- will go first

    lol.....where'd the OP go? I always find it interesting when someone stirs up the community and isn't there to defend their opinion. I believe that is called a troll is it not?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I don't think that's the case Rox.

    I really don't believe that was the intention here... I think it was a mistake - a pretty bad one... but a mistake.

    They're probably upset, I know once I've gotten a thread or group of people riled I need to take my time.

    Not excusing the behavior mind you - but I don't think this was trollish

    Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic; the Holy Roman Empire was neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire.

    Discuss.

    Funny, someone just had that line on one of their takes in dailies this morning. Bizarre...

    Its especially funny though <,< cause its true!

    That, and I'm not good enough to be paid - but my art still eats up *ALOT* of time. That's not a bad thing - but if I'm going to spend 6-10+ hours on a piece, I wanna do a piece that I *want* to do ya know? <,<;

    interesting comment here...and one I fully support.
    ...that said, where is the harm of some one asking for you to do work for them though? it is a given that you will draw what you want to draw...in effect that which inspires you...so I dont see the harm when people ask. it could be argued that if the person asked then there is a reason...and more than likely the reason is because they like something about your style. is it such a hardship to decline or plain ignore the request? the latter seems to be the standard here for artists who do not feel like doing requested work...and to be honest seems to work...as you dont see many, if any follow up posts about how "such and such stinks cause the ignored me". indeed...I would say that it is almost an understood that one can request work but there is no promise of work being done.

    just some thoughts...and to be honest love discussions like this...very rare. but great exercise for the ole brain pan...not to mentioned very relevant to the art forum. ~

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I don't think it's so much the fact that people are asking... I think it's *HOW* some of them ask that annoys people.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Oh sure - *fine* - say everything my much longer posts says in one little blurb <-.->;
