Because everyone in beta is a good tester, amirite? There are testers who might log in a few times just to keep themselves eligible for betas (and keep getting invited), and at any rate, logging in a few times to fiddle around with things isn't really testing.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it works that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't either, until the I13 beta. -

As they've said many times before, closed beta helps them get things fixed better and faster. Rather than having a few thousand people on who just want to play, they have a smaller number who are actually interested in testing and helping make it better. Besides, it's not like it will stay closed all the way until release. You'll have your chance to try things out sooner or later.

Because, after all, NOBODY can do anything in casual testing that might bring out a bug ("Hey, why do I keep crashing after placing that Arachnos flyer?")
Nope, the only worthwhile testers are the ones that can spend 20 hours a day at it!
*snort*

You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity. -

Sorry if you feel that "new awesome content every day" isn't enough of a feature to justify an issue all by itself.
[/ QUOTE ]
I like the idea of the mission architect. Giving players the power to create almost any mission they can dream up is a great feature, and I'll probably toy around with it. The dealbreaker is that you won't get drops while playing so that will limit the time I spend in MA missions.
The devs have done a decent job of making me go "oh cool" to issues I previously hadn't found interesting (back when we though I13 was only the Architect, my reaction was also "meh" until they split issues and I13 ended up with dual builds, Kheld changes, and APP/PPP changes), so I have faith that there will be something in I14 to interest me. It'd just be nice if they'd reveal a bit of the non-MA content for those of us that don't see the MA as a gamechanger. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why would you think it does when we were told I14 is/was all about MA?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because what we're told is never "all there is to it." Take for example the MM pet upgrade changes. There wasn't a hint of that until late in closed beta when people discovered the numbers on the upgrades had changed. We also knew there was going to be a merit system, but had no idea how it would work. We also knew APP/PPP powers were getting tweaked, but didn't know what those tweaks were until open beta.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, you seem to making an awful lot of assumptions about rewards.

Mhm. -
[ QUOTE ]
We've just been given the coolest news on what the MA can do and people STILL want more...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, for those of us who won't be using the architect much if at all (no drops, and likely a ridiculous Architect Ticket -> Reward Merit conversion ratio), it'd be nice to know if the issue holds anything of interest. -
Looks cool, but where's information on everything else in I14?
-
Quick, get me on a roster!
>.> -
I just find it amusing that when semi-serious talk of getting a new PvP (either duel or team) ladder going started, they closed test for I14 beta.

There hasn't been one since, what, October?

The devs will never make things easier, and most certainly never cater towords farmers. At least intentionally.
[/ QUOTE ]
Incidentally the ability to turn off XP has been one of the best tools for the farmer/PLer in recent issues. -

Hardly fancy when terms such as these are taught in high school. Perhaps you should have been more attentive.

I graduated valedictorian, so you're preaching to the choir. Nice try though. -

I always thought this game was set to GNR, Van Halen, Boston, Journey, and the Eagles.

Case in point I also know of people who are pretty much in every one of them AND I also know of other people who hardly get into any of them. *shrugs*

Basically, if you're friends with some of the dev team, or friends of friends, you get a spot, no matter how terrible a tester you may be.

Bitter, but more like a light-medium roast.

Didn't I already hand you a quarter and direct you to the troll pellet dispenser?

So uh where are these new boards we were told about in I13 BETA?
[/ QUOTE ]
They're still there. -
[ QUOTE ]
This is actually what I consider to be one of the cool features of Windows 7. The fact that it's able to run rather smoothly on older hardware, unlike Vista. Taking the time to read as much info on Windows 7 as one can find, you'll notice a lot of the reviews and such show really good feedback in regards to running on older hardware. Coupled with how well it runs with newer hardware, it appears to be very versatile.
Unless Microsoft drops the ball between now and and it's release, it looks like Windows 7 is shaping up to be a fantastic OS
[/ QUOTE ]
If an OS is able to run well on older hardware (which is likely what the majority of potential consumers for that OS would have), I'd consider it a success unless it's marred by software issues. I installed the W7 beta on an older Athlon 64 machine (single-core 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM) and it runs smoothly. I've heard of even older machines running it well - this automatically makes it better than Vista in my book. Forced obsolescence is a bad thing, especially if it's over the span of only a few years. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah...but after I13 I swore I would be more active on the boards again so that I had a chance of getting in the I14 beta. I didn't do that. So I have 0 chance of getting in.
I HAVE done closed betas before but it has been a while. I still PLAY actively I just don't contribute to the boards as much. I even have an idea for a 4-ish mission arc Oh well, I will just wait for the general release.
[/ QUOTE ]
Forum activity is only part of the criteria. I've also seen completely new and inactive accounts being invited to closed betas (kinda makes me wtf, but hey I'm not the one picking). Veteran status has a weighting, as does activity of various sorts (filing bug reports and such can't hurt). -

There was a global increase because... well... there was a global increase. This doesn't change the overall philosophy of punishing the community if the community gets better at doing certain things.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wha?...
They increased merits on way more things than they decreased, but at the same time they're still punishing the community? I'd like to see what kind of dictionary you're using. Your definition of "punishing" seems to be off.
[/ QUOTE ]
They didnt increase jack bull **** on Redside..
[/ QUOTE ]
You might actually want to read the list before making such an erroneous statement.
[/ QUOTE ]
A merit here, a merit there... so what? So the team leader can get an extra merit or two? And leave the rest of the team with nothing? Why would I run those arcs as flashbacks when they give such a piss-poor reward compared to a strike force?
