  1. My vote goes to Tricky_Tacky this month, though it was a bit of a photo-finish. If there were a score card, there wouldn't be a whole point between the top three and less than 3 points between all the contestants.

Everyone should be proud of the work they did this month. This is some serious competition.
  2. General guidelines of what is preferred, but not required, just to give some shape to things are, IMHO, appropriate. Really, I'm sorry anyone got their feelings hurt in this, it is all for fun, really, it should be more light-hearted and less rule heavy-god-I-can't-believe-they-got-away-with-that competitive.

More intramural and less conference-play like.
  3. I have to agree with Larissa on this. You don't have to buy every pack that comes along. The only "buying" bit I'm in disagreement on is the 30 day jet pack--which is, quite frankly, a bit of a rip off.

Other than that, as long as the individual issues are free, I don't mind buying a mini-series here and there.

    Ninjabot - WIP

I tried to post on the blog--2x--and failed both times. Basically lots of praise for the dynamic perspective, flow and composition of the image. I think it is a huge step forward for you. I've watched you improve and love every breakthrough. I think this is a breakthrough image for you--and it is truly a fine bit of work. Colors should make it really pop.

    New Nike IX Art

I've noticed alot of people picking up commissions from PlayWorkArt...I dunno, I gotta say Morg that this latest piece kinda pales in comparison to other pieces in your collection. There are foreshortening issues with the left side of the body and the positioning of the shoulder pieces. The wings on Nike aren't aligned with the body's positioning either, and they're not "working". They seem to be just stuck on there. They should be opened up and catching air so she could stay aloft and steady her energy blast. Wings are difficult to draw that's for sure, but imo your character's design is a bit too cool to settle for relatively weak work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your artistic critique is certainly valid, although it strikes me as kind of arbitrary to speak out about this one particulary piece. However, I think your off base describing this work as weak when the guy is practically giving it away. Seriously, what level of perfection do you expect for this price point?

You get what you pay for. A lot of people like this guy, John Becaro, etc. are trying to make some money at cut throat rates. If the overall quality drops, the consumer should be aware and take some responsibility for that outcome.

    An excellent point.

Well, more of a silver...I think I used a few tones in to the row for the accents on the coat and pinstripes on the pants. The mask and gloves may be whiter...I can't recall off hand. But still, I added a couple gold accents for good measure!

Duley noted. Umm, is he a pirate or a pimp?

    I think he's a pimpin' pirate.

Composite screenies of Gentleman Calder posted for your reference.

    I'm digging that design.
  16. I just love watching you progress--each one, in succession, better than the one before (mostly). I guess this is the artist equivalent of practicing scales.

You should do Karloff as himself. That would be a great challenge.
  17. WB. Glad to have you among the heroes again.
  18. Missy. If you link to another site with a price list (DA comes immediately to mind) you will likely get some nibbles. Nice work.
  19. Wow. That is a striking image.
