Not hard enough... wow. Never thought that might be the problem. You are recommending power sets that weren't there when I played last. Maybe I should go take a look at those. I know dual pistols were all the rage on the forums, and we hadn't even had a taste of them yet.
EDIT: Logging in and looking at the servers. The volume of players must have gone up while I was gone, and here I was thinking the advent of DC Online would stop this. Are there any "guidelines" to picking a server, or is it pretty much up for grabs? -
So, I have a lot of spare time right now. My department just cut hours for the summer and classes end soon (and no summer school). With the reduction in my other hobbies due to rising travel expenses I wanted to fill some of my time with something. I'd much rather be attending some of the 150th Civil War events, but i digress. I've been here before. Not for long mind you, but still. The mission architect was new (and exploitable). Going Rogue either didn't exist or was very mildly mentioned as a teaser.
The thing that drew me back was the new system and the playability of a Praetorian (did I spell that right... who cares). I'm actually excited to go through a tutorial... imagine that. I'm looking forward to my journey, hope it lasts longer than the last one.
As pumped as I am to start playing, I wanted to take some time and put some thought into my new character. I think thats part of what made it go stale last time. Martial arts scrapper: find enemy, kick enemy, win. I liked the simplicity of it. I didn't have to worry about much. I had plenty of time to look around take in all the scenery and story, but I found myself not caring about that character.
I wanted to put some deep thought into this character and make something I'm going to care about and want to stare at for hours at a time. I'm far from an expert on this and it seems to elude me. How can you make a character that's not just flat and uninteresting. My first foray was very one dimensional. With the new expansion and tutorial I see it as a chance for a new start and get something going I can really get into. Hopefully it's not as cheesy as the prison break...
I'm making it sound like rocket science aren't I? Either I'm making it harder than it actually is, or I need to re-tool my mind.
Now that I've got my rant out of the way I did want to ask one serious question before I wrap it up: Have the power sets been rated on any kind of scale. I'm not worried about power so much as difficulty. There were certain power sets I would not touch just because they were hard for me, and I don't want to spend the time fighting with the game mechanics. I'd rather focus on my character, as a person, rather than an artificial being I spend hours piloting so I can increase the size of the number next to his health bar. -
I've often thought about rolling a controller, which do you think would be less intensive, a Mind or Illusion Controller, I've got a Bots/FF and a Bots/Traps running to see which I like better on the villain side of things, but I'd like to get a hero going as well so I can play both sides of the coin (until the next expansion
)

sounds like more of a strategy game than an RPG, I just might have to give that one a try and let my inner mad scientist out. Thanks!

Based on what's been said Force Fields seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Hero Stats can help me keep up on timers and that nice macro will make buffing as easy as clicking and pressing G twice.
Now in terms of what I want t go with this I'm not sure what other power set I want. If I go with a defender I could play like a second rate blaster. Controllers look like a bit of fun, Mind Control and Illusion Control look like a bundle of fun to me. Of course I could also play the other side and unleash an army of Bots! One other thing that I'm thinking about trying is a Trick Arrow/Archery Defender, not quite the most original concept, but hey. Well, once I get a ton of toons running again I'll see where it goes. Thanks! -
So I just recently got my Scrapper, my first character, to 50 and it took less time than I thought. Looking back on my experience I think I have pin-pointed some things about myself and the way I play, and I'm hoping to make my next character better suit myself. Maybe after 3 or 4 characters I'll have it just right
.
So after scrapping for all that time I realize that scrapping isn't my strong suit. I can pul it off, but it is in no way optimal. For reasons I care not to bore you with I have been blessed with really slow reaction times and a host of other things that effect running my scrapper. Don't get my wrong, he did teach me how the game works and I love the game, but he's just a little too fast for me, especially when a kin puts me on SB *shudder*
so for my next character I was looking for something a little slower. I don't think I'll ever get to my favorite speed, turn-based, but I can try. I have no direction for my next character so I am open to anything, I still haven't started a hero at Galaxy City and I have never run a villain so it should be new content (at least some of it) for me anyhow.
Is there anyway a person like me can turn down the speed? I just want to get away from all the running and button mashing. Don't even get me started on PvP...
Thanks for reading and putting up with me.

After reading the guides I'm even more confused. I'm noticing that the differences between the two ATs aren't as clear cut as I once thought. I want to try a tri-form build, but I'm not that great with building characters. I've played characters that are clearly defined and easy to slot, this is not the case with Kheldians. I've also noticed the Kheldians can get more clicky than my other characters, I'll just have to adjust. Right now I see Kheldians like this:
Human: Utility
Nova: Blast
Dwarf: Tank
So I thought about just taking human powers that cross-over into the forms and focusing on shifting. The forms have a clearly defined role and that would help me narrow down the plethora of options. To me this fills what I originally wanted. I could blast in Nova or Scrap/Tank in Dwarf, Switching to human form to buff myself. Anyone got an input on how I can refine this idea? Right now I'm still not sure if I'm on the right track, but I did figure out that I want to try for a tri-form. Another Question, do you just slot forms, or are the powers granted by the forms slot-able too?
I'm still trying to decide which AT to take further, eventually I can see myself taking both to the end, but right now I want to focus. After running my scrapper I want run something a little bit less intense. From what I'm seeing this seems to lean towards warshade, am I correct in thinking this? I'll let you guys mull over those questions a bit and get back on the boards tomorrow and see if I can put two and two together, thanks for all the help so far! -
So after countless hours of giving things the boot on my Scrapper I hit 50 this morning. I've been anxious to try kheldians since I hit 40. I'm interested in shape shifting and the fact that one AT can fit just about any playstyle. I'm trying to pick out the differences between the two khelds and they look almost identical to me. I hate teleport as a travel power so I'm tempted to try a PB, but I'm still not all that sure what I'm doing.
I should probably mention what I expect to get out of a kheld. I got attracted to the AT at first for their inherent abilities. They thrive when in a group. I love grouping and came to this game to play with others so this is right up my ally. I see Kheldians as not one AT, but three. If at all possible I want to build one that takes advantages of all three forms. I could be blasting as a nova on one mission and smashing things as a dwarf on the next. I want to experience the whole class, plus it will liven things up not doing the same thing all the time. Is it possible to build three ways, or does it pay to specialize? and now that I've lost my train of thought I'll go back to my original question as to what the difference between a warshade and a peacebringer? And which one might a scrapper/blaster player fit into. -
I might give an ice storm controller a shot. My scrapper keeps my dander up. I'm a support player more interested in story than combat. Kinda like a tourist. Keep the suggestions coming. Great post!

Running a controller can be a lot of work, but there is hope for the Ice/Storm players. From Ice we have Arctic Air, Ice Slick, Glacier, and Jack Frost which allow you to sleep-walk through most fights while still contributing in a big way. From the Storm secondary we have Snow Storm, Steamy Mist, Freezing Rain, and finally Lightning Storm. All very effective in most fights and all requiring almost no effort to use.

So since this thread has been rezzed I might as well go ahead and ask (assuming this is to be taken seriously). The concept for my controller is based on mind control and storms, think I can still pull off the laziness. I'm loving this. these are the toons for me and I want to give a couple a try. I was looking "set it and forget it type" and I think I found them. Now I get to actually WATCH combat instead of twitching out on my scrapper.
