not sure it matters where it comes from - if it is supposed to be 300% which is shows in the combat attributes...it is not. For example if a dom gets a fulcrum off a mob from a kin 300% dmg - but your doing the same dmg if your at 200%

    [/ QUOTE ]

Damage Capcity for Dominators is 400% total - including the 100% for doing normal damage (So +300%).

If you're slotted heavily for damage (95%), you're at a total damage modifier of 195% (for argument's sake, 200%). Other buffs numbering up to 200% (Assault, Build-Up, Set Bonuses, Siphon Power, Fulcrum Shift, Accelerate Metabolism, Fortitude, what have you) will only bring you up to your total capacity of 400%. In effect... you're already at half of your damage cap just from slotting.

Did I catch it in that, or was there something else you were speaking about in particular? Could just be a misunderstanding.
  2. Predominately, my drink of choice is coffee. It's a dirty, nasty addiction that I'd try to kick the habit of.. but they keep coming up with new flavors and stuff, or I keep discovering old ones that I never really bothered with because I don't experiment all that often or tend to default to Ye Olde Folgers. Like, lately, I've discovered actual Kona coffee, and I heartily recommend it to everyone that's interested in coffee at all. Dunkin Doughnuts and Starbucks are also classics, but they just do not compete with Kona.

Somewhat less frequently, whatever fruit juice happens to be on tap the week in question. The past week or so, it's been Hawaiian Punch Island Guava, but before that I went through a few periods of cranberry juice blends that were adequate distractions. Good, healthy, and a much better way to get sugar into the system then generic juices.

Rarely, soda or an energy drink will end up on the desk when I get a craving for carbonation, and don't really care much how I get it. Most frequent winner is Tab, followed up by Barq's or Amp. Mountain Dew tends to slide into first place when it's available, but I'm not usually in control of the shopping and don't really care what I drink as long as it's fluid and contains at least some water content.

Water, by the by, is also on a daily required list, but usually goes in just 2-3 shots, and thus never has a lasting presence on my desk space.

More similar is not equal to the same.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Neither does less similar equal needing to be changed. Do you have a point to make?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Other then you're working purely with hyperbole? Not really.

You're assuming that because things are being into a state of balance relative to other things within one function of a system, that the entire system is immediately becoming homogenized. Which isn't even really the case here.

Do you even know what the word means, or are you just throwing it around because other people have done the same ridiculous discussion before, and you don't have anything new other then to parrot them back?
  4. More similar is not equal to the same.
  5. Augh.

It's the Warlock forums all over again. :<

    Now I'm most certainly confused.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You were probably still using the old patch.

The servers were up earlier, but the patch hadn't gone through. I tried testing out the new changes as well, but noticed the version numbers didn't match.

Plus my Dom's PSW was still on a 10s Rech.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Well now I just feel silly. ;_;
  7. I don't think that's the case at all, really. I think what's more happening is that the margin between sets is being lowered, while consideration is being given towards keeping certain sets individual where possible.

No powers were replaced, only adjusted. Even if they all did the exact same damage for powers of their type, the order and utility of each set wouldn't likely change that much at all, except perhaps in the melee sets (except those given to Stalkers, who are already significantly different then Scrappers/Brutes/Tanks). And then factoring in the AT modifiers into that further creates a different 'feel'.

Balance and homogenization may have a few things in common, but the main thing with balance is that it doesn't have to be perfect. Especially not when you have 14 things to balance on the same amount of table space.

That's probably why I'm so intrigued with the nature of these changes as they stand now - there's a lot of little things going on under the hood to keep things in a closer state of balance then they were previously, but I haven't seen anything to suggest at this point that there's any homogenization going on.

I don't see any errant cytoplasm floating around just yet.

Hey, so long as we get the changes with I15, it's all good.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seconded. This has definately made me happier, to be getting them on Test this early.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Whoops, I was basing my math off Blaster's ranged damage modifier, not their melee modifier. Incidentally Dominators now have a higher melee modifier than Blasters (1.05 versus 1.0).

The endurance cost increase still bugs me though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You and me both. :/ Loathe as I am to say it, I'd rather see them normalize both versions between the two numbers, at least for a little more parity.

Even if it'll make my Psi/Men a little disappointed.

Edit: Just checked and the Melee/Ranged table change is not in the version patching today. That'll be fixed for next patch.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It is unclear whether that is the PSW Modifier change* or the Base Damage change for Dominators as a whole though.

    * = New PSW will use the Melee Damage Modifier, not Ranged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tested it and confirmed it just a bit ago - did the exact same damage with both Charged Bolt and Block of Ice on Test as I did on Live.

Ah well - I at least got copied over and set up.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Or complaining because their PSW is the same as Blasters.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's not. Check the new numbers again. In addition to dealing less damage than the Blaster version, the new PSW costs almost twice the endurance.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really? The Blaster version is DS1.1. The Dominator version is now at 1.21 - marginally more damage. The endurance quip is, however, accurate.

However, Castle's also stated that the Dominator version is using the Melee damage table (1.05 vs. 0.95), whereas the Blaster version is using the appropriate table (which is only slightly higher for Blasters in general).

Nearly every power listed in that thread had its Recharge and End cost increased. This is not a good thing for drawing in new Dom players, if that was the idea behind all of this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True But Pre-Stamina most everything has fits of endurance woes so its not like its that big of a deal, and with Domination being free to do something other than be a damage Crutch, while you are a lowbie you can pop it in longer fights for the Blue Bar Boost.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With the higher End and Recharge for your powers, you won't be able to attack as quickly to build Dom as quickly though. This is particularly an issue in the lower levels when many people form their first opinions of whether they want to play an AT or not. Not being able to do anything because either you're out of End or your powers haven't recharged yet is already a problem in the pre-Stamina levels. From what I can see, this would only make the problem worse.

And for those people saying Dom has only ever been a damage crutch, I think they're a bit delusional. Status Protection and extra Mag on your mezzes is huge. That's why I built for Perma-Dom, not the damage buff. The damage buff was just icing on the cake.

    [/ QUOTE ]

From your initial assessment, this is a problem. Unfortunately, this is only an assessment made based on examination of the issue on paper - my recommendation is that you actually try it out before you make any judgements from this.

If it's at least better then my Stone/Stone Brute is out of the gate, I'd have to consider that a bit of a win. Unfortunately, Test just went down for maintenance, so I can't really get anything verifiable at the moment. :/

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hey before you get too happy here is what Castle had to say and I don't think anyone caught it yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm aware of that change. Still testing things out at the moment, however, because there still are a lot of power changes that went through (specifically for Elec, the set I was most interested in testing) to look at as well.

And from the context of the full post, I think he might have meant the change specifically to put PSW and PS on the Melee table, and not the Ranged one. I'll have to check some numbers later on tonight, though, to verify (if someone doesn't beat me to it).

EDIT: Nope, he meant the full tables. Confirmed on live - though it's interesting to note I still managed to drop an even-con lieutenant faster on Test. Not sure what that's all about... might've had something to do with actually having my damage heavy hitters up faster, probably more attribute to luck.

  14. That's why I'm running two tests - my Ice/Elec at 16 (I screwed around and didn't get to 18 like I planned), and a new throwaway dom. See how she cruise, yanno?

Dey peemped mah ride, but did dey improve it?
  15. Guess I'll mosey on to test and see how the car feels now that the mechanics are mostly done under the hood.

Some real big surprises in there, but overall very intrigued. Can't say I'm happy yet... but intrigued.

Not bad, the day is dragging on a bit as Mondays tend to do. How are you?

Busy. I've got a ton of minor tasks that all seemed to have decided they wanted to be scheduled for today, much to my supreme annoyance.

On the list so far: Dishes, vacuuming, rearranging furniture (for the billionth time), system maintenance, and breaking apart a few computers to find out what kind of tasty pieces are still usable.

And that's just the stuff I have left.

  22. *Yaaaawns, and curls up on the FoC.*

So, I did the alt-shuffle last night. One new defender (that's working out better then I expected, but so did my last Sonic/Sonic character - she made it all the way to 18 before I threw up my hands and gave up), a new brute (Stone/Stone) and a new stalker (DB/DA). May reroll the Stone/Stone at some point because I was sort of brain dead thinking up a costume, and the one I came up with works much better on the DB/DA then it does her.

Starting my system to maintenance mode, and starting to plan out the rest of my day.
