Glad to hear things are working for you Crysys. For reasoning behind the Rocket Board's design, I recommend checking out The Intrepid Informer: Issue #11. It explains everything.

Only had a few minutes to pop in the game this morning before heading off to work, but I was able to access the store and read everything (on OSX 10.5.8). Just glimpsed Atlas Park. Hopefully I'll have some more time later this afternoon once I get home.

A big thanks to you, Zwill, for being an awesome trooper both with the Mac client as well as the NCLauncher issues. You have my utmost gratitude.

No apologies necessary man, no personal offense taken. Hell, I was agreeing with you, haha! But hopefully with the version of the NCLauncher that went live roughly 12 hours ago, and the fixes to the Store that we hope to see within the next week, we won't have to worry about these particular issues much longer.
  3. I knew some generic names would be scooped up fast, but I am somewhat surprised at just how fast some have disappeared off the "Available Names" list.

No, I'm not saying "There's no more good names! Doo0000ooomm!" Just remarking that I am surprised at the speed at which some have been claimed. Though, I suppose I shouldn't be that surprised...
  4. If you are on OS X version 10.5.8 or lower, here's what you need to know (quoted from Zwillinger in a different topic):

There is currently an issue where the launcher is not recognizing OS 10.5 as a supported version. We're working on getting this fix up tonight, as in very soon™. IMPORTANT - If you installed a previous version, please uninstall the LAUNCHER ONLY and reinstall the new version when it is live.

I don't plan on leaving tonight until this is resolved, so I'll update you guys when the new version of the mac launcher is available.

    Thanks for your patience!

If you are on OS X version 10.6 or higher, I recommend seeing the "Things you need to know" thread started by CuppaManga.
  5. Well good, at least you have game access!

Just so we have a record of where you are at (and correct me if I'm wrong): The NCLauncher opened and you were prompted to update, which you declined, and then encountered no problem after clicking "Play Now." If that's the case, it sounds like the NCLauncher is trying to patch an already updated Cider, but I cannot know for sure. Glad you are in the game!
  6. Okay, that "Please wait!" prompt lasts forever, as I discovered a day or two ago. Don't bother hitting cancel, just quit the NCLauncher.

Open it up again, and this time allow Cider to patch when prompted, and see if it works.
  7. Okay TC, this may have to wait until CuppaManga gets back, as he is the true expert, but I'll continue to do what I can while I have no Mac visual to work with. Bear with me as I am entertaining all possibilities.

Try opening the Launcher and clicking "No" to avoid the immediate Cider download. Then click on the little triangle next to "City of Heroes" to expand the menu. Double click "Repair," let it run, then try to launch the game. Post what happens after that.
  8. Okay Thunder Claws, aside from the aforementioned 10.5.8 fix, did you try and/or change anything else before posting here?

Of course they are ridiculous, and we hope to be able to stop worrying about them in the very near future. But in the meantime, we are just trying to get as many people back playing in whatever way possible.

Okay, unfortunately, I'm at work for the next hour and a half, which means I am not on a Mac and am without visuals, so I can only offer limited ideas at the moment. So that we have as much info as possible, just confirm or deny the following:

-You've tried the fix posted in the other topic in this forum (the one labeled for 10.5.8)
-You've downloaded the patch that went live today.
-You've had 1 or more successful Cider installations in the past 48 hours.
-You've accessed the game in the past 48 hours.

Since you tried the other fix by changing it to 10.5, I assume you are running 10.5.8 Leopard. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Exactly when does Cider start to download? i.e. When you open the NCLauncher, when you click "Play Now" for CoH, etc.
  11. Kail, would you mind posting what version of OSX you are running? If you don't know, you can find out by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner and selecting "About this Mac."

Different versions of OSX have required different tweaking, so that should help us give more detailed feedback.
  12. Ah good! Thanks Techbot. Now I can start it before I go to work and uncheck that little "Launch after update" box, so that the game won't be running while I'm away.

Looks like I'll find out either way when the game goes live this evening (unless the mac experts and/or someone in red tells me it's ok to let the NC Launcher update itself).

Update: Decided to launch game anyway and got the old start-up screen. Looks like I need to download the I21 update anyway. Does the NC Launcher handle this or does the game do so once it becomes available?
The NCLauncher's default is to check for updates every 30 minutes, and will download and apply them automatically. If you go to "NCLauncher-->Settings" (or hit Command+S) you will see an option allowing you to choose for the Launcher to ask you before downloading and/or applying an update.

If I am going to be away from the computer, I usually choose "Automatically download updates, ask before applying." That way, the game does not launch while I am away (That check box is always highlighted on the update status bars). But, the process is half done by the time I come back, so I don't have to wait as long.

Just a heads up though: we don't know when the patch will be ready to download. All we know is that it will be sometime before 4pm Eastern.

They say they have fixes and are fairly confident that they work.. but won't be rolling THAT patch out for a week.

There's still more testing to do, however barring any major issues, this should be ready very soon. I have requested regular updates regarding this and expect to hear confirmation this afternoon sometime. I'll let you know as soon as I do.
    • We believe we have addressed most, if not all, of the text issues in the Market. That's the good news. The not as good news is that we were unable to work these fixes into the release (i.e.; tomorrow's) build. This will go into the first publish following the release of i21, which should hit live servers sometime later this week. It will hit either Training Room or Beta before hand, so I'll update when it's in a test environment so everyone can check it out.

I do apologize that the Market issue is not going to be addressed prior to launch. If you wish to hurl insults at me, please commence at your convenience.

    Thanks

    Quoted from other Thread.

The text fixes should be live within the week, i.e. by the end of Friday, not next week. Sure, the Market may cause a crash if you stay in there too long. But once the dang thing is readable, making quick in-and-out purchases should be a piece of cake, and hopefully the crashing can be avoided until a permanent fix is found.

With all the mishagos of the past few weeks, I'll take "something" over "nothing."

Your info.plist looks the same as mine, so I don't know what the problem would be. Perhaps change that one line back to 10.6, since you are (after all) running 10.6. I can only speak for 10.5.8, since that's what I'm running. I suggest checking out the thread Zwillinger started in this forum, people seem to be working on a Snow Leopard fix over there.

Xinner, are you on 10.5.8? I can only speak for the OS I am currently running, anything above or below might be different. Would you mind posting your "info.plist" and I can maybe get you a fix before I have to disappear for a little while?

I recommend seeing Step 2 of my original post. In "info.plist" you want the line underneath "Minimum System Requirement" to read "10.5" and NOT "10.6."
  18. The "MacOS" folder should be inside the "Contents" folder.
  19. Hey all. I got my NCLauncher fixed, and was able to run CoH Live no problem. Here's the step by step:

    1. Right click on your NCLauncher (which probably has a white circle with a line through it for an icon) and click Show Package Contents.

    2. Open the Contents File. Open "info.plist." Use "find" (command+f) to find "10.6". Change that to "10.5". CHANGE NOTHING ELSE. Save, and exit.

    3. Open the folder "MacOS." The only icon in there should be the one labeled "NCLauncher." Click it. It should open a Terminal window, followed immediately by the NCLauncher itself. DO NOTHING IN THE TERMINAL WINDOW. Simply close it.

    4. Go to "City of Heroes" on the Launcher and click "Play Now." If everything goes the same way it did on my computer, the new version of Cider should begin downloading.

I was able to access the game without a problem, and my NCLauncher icon has returned to normal. I hope this works for you all!

Hopefully they'll be able to fairly easily fix this... Although, I'm fairly certain you all will have to reinstall once there's an update, since the self updater would obviously not work if it can't start.
Thanks Kitsune. I certainly hope that is the case. I have absolutely no problem downloading and reinstalling the installer, it was fairly quick the first time around. I just hope that works.

    Until then... TF2 anyone? :P
  21. It would probably help both us and any staff reading this if you gave the type of computer and operating system.

(For example, it seems that the most recent version of the NCSoft launcher is incompatible with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 or lower)

Did the NC Launcher, for some likely insane reason, drop support for that version?

I'm on 10.7.1, and I don't have this issue... I'm betting someone thought it would be a good idea to block such an 'old' version... (wonderful timing, NC!)
I entertained this possibility for half a second when it first happened since, given the simplicity of the prompt that we all seem to be receiving, that would be the case. But that thought immediately thrusts me into a fit of rage, so until I hear confirmation or denial, I am going to pretend that that is not the case.

    What do i do?

Update: I was unsuccessful in an attempt to re-download the NCLauncher from NCSoft's website, thinking that perhaps downloading and installing fresh would help.

This really is not the problem I want to have the day before VIP Headstart, haha

    What do i do?

I, too, am on OSX 10.5.8, and can no longer open the NCSoft Launcher. I receive a prompt:

You cannot use this version of the application NCLauncher with this version of Mac OS X.
Tried restarting the comp, no effect. No idea what else to do :/
