  1. - I've noticed how Reichsman was made taller (same size as Imperious) than Statesman and Tyrant. Is there a canonal reason for this?

    - Is there a Praetorian/Cimeroan version of Lord Recluse?

    - Whats the connection between the Dream Doctor and Rularru that was hinted at in the Midnighters Club clues?

    - Did Positron use his power armor to fight crime before or after developing the ability to generate anti-matter?

    - Is Trapdoor in CoV considered an Incarnate?

    - Is there any relation to the Winter Lord and the Lord of Frosts from World War II?
  2. I'd like to interact more directly with the Gamester, as well as see the lakes frozen over like the first winter event...

    Got a two part suggestion;
[*] First, how about changing the Naughty spawns from the Winter Horde to like giant killer toys, then have a random chance that opening a present sends you to an instanced mission where you deal with the Gamester himself.
[*] Next, how about make the Winter Horde into a world event like the Zombies, where the lakes freeze over, the sky turns grey and the Winter Horde comes in force.
  3. I'd agree that the merit system currently feels very "artificial" as you termed it. If I remember, I think I brought up something like that in the closed beta; might have referred to just the vendors themselves though.

I believe it went something like switching the merit vendors to Hero Corps contacts (Blueside). I'd also add to that by changing the Merit Reward Salvage to something like Credits for heroes and Cash for Villains.

And no matter how many times you add zero to something, its value will not be increased.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Depends on your math. You'd have to post nothing for the value to equal zero.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, you'd just have to post something of zero value for the value to equal zero.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Now, I see your point!

So... nothing useful in the article at all. Pointless.

    Essentially yes; for gamer's anyway

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which would be people who play games - such as City of Heroes - and presumably the sort of people who would be visiting a site called Gamezone.

    So... utterly pointless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is the first time I've seen the subject of pointless-ness driven so adamantly that it's safe to call this an oxymoron.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would only be an oxymoron if arguing that something was pointless made that something worthwhile. As it doesn't, it isn't.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't see this reply as discrediting it from being an oxymoron as each additional reply is one more added to the topic's post count, as well as increasing a public awareness towards dislike for anything beyond the number-crunching aspect of game development.

Both in quantity and quality I see those statements and proceeding arguements adding value regardless of it's initial intent.

...and here is one more post to add to this growing value

New powersets being added should not be part of the in-game canon. What if my plant controller existed before I12? Powersets being added is OOC, not IC. Don't blur the lines.

So what made your hero decide to be a hero now instead of issue 1?

  10. Actually, I thought about that too before reading this; I thought originally that it was unessesary as they didn't need it for the archery and sonic set as well as the thugs set for villains.

Though how they've laid this foundation here kinda reminds me of some comic stories like Jack Kirby's Fourth World in which their powers and abilities stem from "The Source" or the DC's [censored]-Magi ( I can't believe they censored this ) Race. Also like the X-Factor gene or the Celestials' discovery of hidden potential in the human race of superpowers in the Marvel universe.

Except that this doesn't sound like not a "be-all" for everyone, though perhaps is like say a catalyst. It's like this "source" opens up the posibility however the how's and why's is still individualized.

So example #1: I have an affinity for plant live and I am a gifted gardner; though after Dr. Brainstorm's experiement (which I had no knowledge of). I found that I could further develop my talent towards actual communication with plants during a unique life or death situation when I was first confronting a new species of carnivorous plant-life. Which would be considered still a natural origin like Poison Ivy. Through this, I was inspired to take my talents to the next level.

Or example #2: An accident that would normally kill me such as a poisonous spiderbite provided the opportunity for the most unlikely scenario that which that particular spider was radioactive or genetically engineered to transfer his genetic traits through his bite. He still obtained his powers scientifically; however some supernatural force inticed the spider to bite him over the hundred other people in the room. We would attribute this normally to strange luck if it wasn't for the fact that this was coincidentally happening around the same timeframe as other industrial "accidents" were creating Incredible Hulks and inspiring Iron Men to heroics.

Eventually heroes may learn that they are more fundimentally connected and dependant to a common destiny-driven power source; though at that point it's based on open-mindness and some may brush this revelation off with a grain of salt.

Just like the Unified Field Theory of physics; I can definately see a Lord Recluse or any "mad" theoretical physicist investing in this idea for the perposes of gaining an over-arching control mechanism or influence on the superpower community. Even the strings of fate itself.

I liked how in Web of Arachnos; the Pandora's Box aura was presented as more of like a promethean level "kick-start" inspiration for superhumans rather than the be all of it; as Dark Watcher developed his powers much earlier; with the opening of the box, he seemed to get a significant power boost. Even how Maiden Justice was a natural hero with nothing special about her. Though she started to develop that glow which helped pushed her beyond what she originally planned to do with her judo and investigational skills.

This actually leads to a question I have; will the Pandora's Box in Web of Arachnos be touched upon in this Issue as well as the Powerset Poliferation canon reasoning?

I'd like to see more of this merging of the out-of-game stories like the comic book included into the expansions like the Time Travel TF's in I11.

It seems that what Dr. Brainstorm tapped into was that power source in his own way. Maybe this might be used to explained the inspiration trade-in mechanic as well; also we may get more story into the origin of superpowers through the Cimeroa Zone content according to the initial announcement.

So I was doing Harvey Maylor's story arc, and I've discovered what Teddy Roosevelt is doing in Rome: reading people's minds.

Seriously: Harvey Maylor at Paragon Wiki.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if this was brought up, however this just sparked in my head a memory of another CoH arc dealing with 'The Path of the Dark' which dates back to Rome. Aparently they tumbled with the Midnight Squad as well and it also reminds me of a hint given in the 5th Column Ouroboros arc.

Reminder that both links are spoilers to existing story arcs:

To be honest, I'd rather have the Devs change that "first mission from second contact" to direct the player to visit the Detective in Kings Row. It's not good to make new players think that the Hollows is the natural progression.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like this idea, I'd even add to replace the security chief missions with detectives; or have the the security chief missions direct to either detectives or Wilcot after completing them as choices to help out the police more. similar to how brokers redirect villians to additional contacts after completing a mayhem mission.

I thought this post from Hero 1 should be reproduced here, since it refers directly to the Midnight Squad content:

    [ QUOTE ]
    Greetings: Crazy Monkeys

I wanted to pop in to quell some, but by no means all, of the rumors and general discussions that I’ve come to love, admire and fear on the boards.

The Midnight Squad missions, of which there are multiple arcs, are equal in content for both Heroes and Villains. Heroes get a single longer StoryArc regarding the Midnight Squad and Villains get two shorter StoryArcs. All of these arcs tie in to the Midnighter Club and the Cimerora, as well as two other arcs (one hero and one villain) that we didn’t mention in the release. As far as the line from the release, “The Midnighters hold a secret that could bring the alien assault to an end, but without the help of the Heroes of Paragon City™ it will remain Lost forever.” That line refers to the Midnight Squads hero StoryArc.

I hope that helps to clarify and redirect your discussions appropriately.

    Stay true
    Hero 1

    [/ QUOTE ]

From what I'm reading off this quote, I wonder if this is how it will go...

The Midnight Squad opens a branch building (i.e. Vanguard DPO's and The Freedom Corps HQ) in both an existing hero's zone and an existing villian's zone. with the 10-20 content. 1 long hero-exclusive arc and 2 smaller villian arcs.

These both tie into the Midnighter Club at later levels, which is a hub to allow both hero & villian access to additional content. The club also contains the access to Cimerora.

That scenario could quell misconceptions dealing with the definitions of new content vs. new zone. It also would be less development time to replace an existing building in an existing zone rather than create a whole new zone.

I believe there was a post long ago which brought up development times for zones in which, renovating a zone would take 1 month while creating a whole new zone could take 3 months. If that were the case, from the content listed in the Game Update; 3 wholely new zones plus a renovated zone could take much longer than the development time they have with their current staff.

Positron also prepared us for this being a lighter Issue than we're used to. Which if we stick to that statement. It seems to make much more sense to just add a new building in an existing zone with a portal to a co-op zone for later content added.

Just a reminder this is only going by the information provided.

    Hollows 5-15
    Faultline 15-25
    Croatoa 25-35
    RWZ 35-50

Four zones, each with four story arcs, three with detectives, all (soon) with hospitals. A nice streamline path from 5 to 50.

This. Toss in Midnight Squad content at 10 and 35 to supplement, and Tuncer's a happy, happy boy.

Forgot Striga Isle (20-29) on the list too

Now if there'll only be stores and a Donut shop in the Hollows (hey it worked in Faultline )

...or at least a Donut Tent w/deliveries.

Those cops have been understaffed and under-appricated for years with no love to show for it. I mean, PPD has been outfitted with Hardsuits now, while Sam Wilcot's Task Force is still using their old riot gear .
  17. This thread got me thinking;

I'm starting to notice that the CoH community has an interesting way of coping with these controversial situations which are common to other MMO's in that rather than just get heated and post rants, it has shown to be a uniquely supportive community in that it asks how they can help.

Then I was reminded of those in-game billboard ads for an Attorney at Law around Paragon City and I thought, wouldn't it be neat if there was a court house or legal establishment building in-game that posted write-ups on these kinds of controversial MMO topics; like this crackdown on in-game spamming ads for RMT and how the CoH community has helped deal with it?

Thinking it might be cool to have a place that commemorated these board topics which could potentially be events of historical significance to future changes made to the game as well as bring awareness to new players of how the CoH community deals with these common MMO issues.

    Just a random thought.

By the way: I got these messages twice this last night while playing. One happened at around 12:30 AM and another at 1:30 AM on the Guardian Sever. Hope this helps in tracking this issue down.
