Today I was reading through my daily webcomics and I came across the latest edition of Penny Arcade. Nothing too amazing, but I did notice for the first time the large and clean word balloons and the generic and non-topical graphic presentation. So I decided to wipe the word bubbles clean and try my hand at making my OWN version of Penny Arcade regarding CoH. I self-filtered to remove profanity etc. from my own ideas, and here is the result:

She had temporary fun for a short while but was left feeling empty.

Kind of reminds me of stories my best bud in high school was telling about his time addicted to drugs. Fun at the time, but ultimately unfulfilling.

While I'm sure that there ARE people that find farming and PLing fun, those aren't the people I'm talking to here. I'm talking to the people that are only doing it to get to some sort of "goal at the end" when they might START to have fun. The people who AREN'T having fun farming or PLing and are only using it as a means to an end.

Those are the ones I'm talking to Nethergoat.

I do agree with you on this though:

My only issue is with people that went down one path thinking that's what they wanted, and are now stuck in that path because they don't see that they aren't having any fun. I've met many people like that before that were so blinded with the monotony of what they were currently doing that they didn't see that there were other ways that they might enjoy better.

Sometimes people just need to be woken up from the daze that they're in, and by leaving the game for a while and coming back to it, that's what the OP needed to wake up.

I'm not. Just because I suggest that some people might be burnt out if *gasp* they're not having FUN doesn't mean that I want to "run them off". I don't care what they do personally, because they won't be affecting my play time. It's just a bit of advice that I got from my father that I'm passing along to anyone else that wants to listen.

Namely: "If you don't like what you're doing, then go do something else."

He told me that a long time ago, and to this day, I have no reason to doubt his wisdom.

Did I say they should be kicked out or banned from the game? No. And that would be suggesting that only certain people "deserve" to be here. Once again, giving out advice that people may choose to listen to or may choose not to.

If they want to keep doing things for hours that bring them no joy so that they can have joy at some unknown time in the future, that's entirely up to them. I have no desire and no POWER to stop them from playing the way they choose to.

This. Just like in school, when you "cheat", you're only really cheating yourself. And I think you just discovered that. I wish more people would realize this and realize that the point of the game is to have fun PLAYING the game, rather than working to some point in the future when you "will" be able to "finally have fun".

If you don't enjoy the game from level 1 up, then you're either doing something wrong, or you need to go play another game for a while because you're burnt out.

But that's just one man's opinion.

One problem with that cartoon. They show the frog as having been sealed into the building in 1892, but when he comes out, he sings the song "Hello! Ma Baby" which wasn't composed until 1899.

"A snob is someone who adopts the worldview of snobbery — that some people are inherently inferior to him or her for any one of a variety of reasons, including real or supposed intellect, wealth, education, ancestry, etc."

Thus if you don't want to exemplar down because you would feel like "less" of a hero by having less powers or by not having access to the powers "you like", then you are being a snob, because you believe that you are inherently inferior to YOURSELF at a lower level than you are at a higher level.

How's that for a stretch of logic?

1. I've been doing it the entire time there's been a game. It's only been a FOCUS of my gaming experience for the last year.

2. I never said it was snobbery because they didn't want to exemp down. I was suggesting it was snobbery because of that specific REASON they gave... which I'd never heard before recently. No one else in the past has had this issue.

3. Probably. But you don't need an excuse for that. All they have to do is not reply at all, or say "No thank you." Either one of those makes more sense than creating a fake excuse.

That's where I stand as well. I'm just puzzled by this excuse.

Looks like another challenger has stepped up to the plate. Tell me what time you want to meet me on Guardian and I will form a full team for you of 8 characters in less than 15 minutes.

Then you should have no problem forming a team. If you ARE having a problem, tell me the time and server and I'll be there and form the team FOR you to show you how easy it is. in less than 15 minutes I'll have a full team.

Ironically enough, no one ever takes me up on these challenges. They'd just rather complain about these imaginary "ghost towns".
