Its not entirely useless discussion, but DE does have a point. All the March submissions are in and voted for, etc. so its not a HUGE deal, but keep in mind these threads need to stay open during active months. Once it gets this far off topic, can it be moved to its own thread?

I think I might buy a box for myself just so I can experience that "fresh crayon smell" again. Its more addictive than "new car smell".
-
And the votes are in! The winner of immunity this month is...
JOHNNYKAT
And again, Frost has graphied up the tally
-
Speaking of crayon sharpeners as a status symbol...
-
Not much time left to vote! Get on in, people!

What's up with all the llamas? Are we in Sim City or something?

I like how your 4 point system has 3 points

Quote:This may be a show I can get behind...Bah, I got Team Gaga.
Legend of the Seeker is actually an entertaining show if: you're not expecting the show to follow the books, cause it doesn't, not even close; you like cleavage, because apparently the costume department is a big fan of it; you like Mord Sith, the red-leather clad S&M dominatrix-style warrior women (of whom Charisma Carpenter is a member), you like SWORD FIGHTS involving Richard and the aforementioned cleavage brigade and Mord Sith. -
Oh! I've seen a few Chick Tracts, but must have never seen the reference to death cookies and/or didn't remember.
Now I really do want a cookie month. Everyone should raid Larissa's kitchen for supplies! Or we can do a month using nothing but various religious iconography and see how much bans we can rack up. Person with the longest suspension for their entry wins immunity! -
Congrats to the winners! I'll be quite happy to sketch up their characters at some time in the soon (TM) future ^.^
-
Oooh, what's the death cookie? I feel I might be flamed for my ignorance, but I must know.

Well, there were ALSO boobs present in the drawing, but the rendering emphasis was on the hands/feet ^.^
-
I'm comparing naked feet to naked hands. And feet give me more trouble. We did hand and foot studies this week in Figure Drawing 2... and I got a portfolio-worthy hand study... not so much with the foot study.

*logs into dA account*
*projectile vomits*
Hmmm... what's thinkgeek.com got going on...
EDIT: Wait, Frost is on Team Jacob? I am too..... we even follow eachother around in dA April Fool's pranks!!! This is just weird. -
Thanks very much, I appreciate every post/PM like that I get =)
I'm sure you and TA can attest to the fact that running this is surprisingly more work that it outwardly seems! I thought I had a pretty good idea of the work involved, but was way off on that one. But its quite worthwhile when I get to see all the interesting ways people use the themes.
I also now have new empathy for my professors for all the art projects they come up with @.@ -
I'd just like to take a moment to say that acrylics are the debil. So are feet. Thank you.
-
To put this in real perspective... 3 people total have complained to me about it, and 2 of them were never in the contest. So... yeah.
They're greatly outnumbered by the posts and PMs I've gotten supporting it. -
Oooh, milk and cookies!
Next month's theme is cookies. In CoH shapes. And I must taste-test them all to approve them.... yes.... -
Yes, please participate if you're feeling inspired! You won't be included in the voting thread or dA group gallery, but far be it from me to keep you from also enjoying the theme =)

I definitely see where you're coming from as far as coloring books, so I almost want to say yes... but the thing about that is coloring linework is kind of what we've been doing all along. To me, that's another type of material that is too easy to use to circumvent the point of the challenge. So no, using unapproved materials to make a coloring book is not allowed.
Let me think on the collage idea a little. That's a harder call for me to make right off the bat because there's more stuff involved. It may just be limited to specific material.
And yes, you can use pencil for your base sketches/construction. If I get assigned to work in acrylic, its still assumed that I'll have my basic sketch on the board lightly in pencil first. So if you use pencil/pen for your BASE SKETCHES, GUIDELINES AND CONSTRUCTION, that's fine. But these materials can not in any way be a major element of the finished piece. -
The above Lego examples are swaying me more towards keeping them out. Specifically the MC Escher re-creation. I'd really REALLY not want to see the little figures used for this one, even if they're made to be CoH characters. I think the Lego stuff would be a theme almost in and of itself.
LD- The level of refinement is the problem the entrants will have to solve. That's part of the way you execute to achieve your best result. Using crayon to make a highly detailed and tightly rendered piece would be a great way to make a strong entry... but so would pairing the simple materials and a simple image with a complex subject. This has been par for the course thus far, as some people go for fully detailed entries with full backgrounds, while others pull off their ideas with clean design.
The theme qualification this month is based on material (in addition to the overall contest rules). How you best solve the challenge of using the approved materials is what we vote on. -
Well, that's true. My bed is open for her.
