I'd love to "skip it" If it wasn't for the fact that the "problem" missions are inside story arcs. "Skipping it" would mean, before long, total cessation of door missions. I hate street sweeping. I'd gladly "skip" AV missions, given a choice. Once you're already in the story arc though, that arc slot, and that contact are now completely tied up. Also, it's not always mentioned that there will be an AV present in THAT particular mission.

I think its pretty clear that Statesman did mention if you cannot solo a mission that street sweeping is always an option. Seeing that, it does sound like he wants some content to be done with a group.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I mentioned, I despise street sweeping. If it comes to the point where I actually do get stuck with no missions apart from street sweeping, I suppose I can always cancel billing on my account and come back when things change, if ever.

For the moment, my RL friends and I have been able to help each other with AV encounters when necessary, when that becomes unworkable, I have no problem with walking away. Putting my free time at the mercy of strangers is something that I will NEVER pay to do again. Had more than enough of that with the other games I played.

And that's OK. As Statesman said, not every mission is designed to be done solo. Your choices. Get a group or skip it.
    I'm cool with that.

    Here's my stance...

It's the developers job to ensure that fun play equals a reward.

It's not fun if you level up by doing nothing.

That's cool and all, Jack, but let me run this by you. I P/L'ed my scrapper past 19, with the help of a friend because of one thing: my only other option was to street sweep for a level, because my contacts wouldn't give me any more missions at that point.

Street sweeping, to me is DEFINITELY not fun. I am again playing and enjoying my scrapper, in missions, thanks to the fact that a friend was able to help me skip the stuff that sucked.

Now I understand that missions will be added in the next update, and the gaps that I so hate will (hopefulyl) disappear, but I just want you to understand that SOME of the P/Ling that goes on is to skip the stuff that is NOT fun.

Edit: WHat I mean specifically is that when I hit the gap at 19, I had a friend PL me past the gap so that I could continue having what I consider is fun. Street sweeping, competing with others and dealing with griefers is not, to me, fun.

The kind of Pling I hate is when people are just standing there. Its fine and even fun to have an sk or be sked. That's part of the game.
One day I encountered someone that was using other people's accounts to level them because they gave him money to do so. There's not much you can do about that but I bet the developers could do something about characters standing still and earning hundreds of thousands of points.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But why? because it bothers YOU? It's not a horribly efficient way to level. It does allow people to catch up to their friends. It's not cheating unless they state in the TOS that it's cheating. Right now, it's only "cheating" because YOU say that it is. That doesn't hold much water.

I don't get it. If this is a problem now, then it's always been a problem. The ToS hasn't changed. So why is it that it was allowed to go on for this long without anyone saying anything? It certainly wasn't because it wasn't known about and it's only served to get more people interested. I know of many occasions where players tried to get an official response on this and were not told anything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm guessing they finally came to an agreement as to how to interpret the ToS regarding map patches.

My personal take on the ToS was my map patches weren't EDITING any of the game files. It was ADDING items outside these files.

Furthermore I suspect that, in the 2nd update, they will fix the method of how CoH attempts to access the in-game maps. Currently it's overrideable by creating an external directory structure, identical to the directory structure internal to the pigg file packets. I'll bet that CoH will implement an internal only search in regards to maps.

If they do that, I'll definitely cancel my subscription. I'm hoping there's another type of modification they intend to block here. I can get the same effect with printed maps, but its the principle of the thing. If it's going to be THAT draconian, I'll find something else to do with my time.
