3 years ago I used to be a part of the Biography project on Wikipedia, and I remember the countless hours working on the backlog of 150,000+ articles that needed to be wikified, formatted, categorized, or outright deleted.

Quote:Theoretically, Wiki's should read like an encyclopedia, so nothing should ever be in the first person, except discussions on the Talk Page.I propose that nothing be "in-character" except for character bios, for consistency. SGs would be not in character.
I created a {{biography}} template to use when creating a character biography, and if it all possible, try to keep the character portraits to 150px width / 350px height. -
I got a big 182MB download upon exiting tonight... I wonder what for...

I just need to find a way to get Flickr to work with VicWik.

I'm up for being auctioned, if you're still accepting auctionees.

It takes time to learn and embrace. I still refer to the original Wiki for editing styles.

Quote:Perhaps you could explain that for those unfamiliar with what a "Hambush" is?Exactly. Any Victory wiki site worth its salt will need a page describing what a "Hambush" is.

...in the beginning there was nothing...
...and then Satanic Hamster said, "Let there be light!"
...still it was dark as Hell but at least you could see it...
...and from that abyss emerged...
...nothing...
That's a good start. -

Alternatively, "Welcome to the Victory Server, $newbie. Are you new to the game/new to our server? We have a wiki if you'd like to acclimate yourself to our...ways (sinister laughter.)"
I see it as a community building tool and less of an ego stroking exercise. Naturally, some people will do just that - people already do that on (the real) Wikipedia - stroke their egos.
Let them do it.
I think we do enough community events and have our own unique little "society" here that, as I said previously, I think of this more as scrapbooking.
I've been playing for 5 some odd years and there's a reason I haven't left Victory. It's the people. Or those things that call themselves people. Whatever they are, I consider being with them "home." -

Quote:We don't need a wiki - it's for fun.And we need this why exactly? Personalized wikis really don't serve any purpose except to give insecure folks a reason to think they are important. We've got this section of the CoH boards. That should be enough for any server... and yes, I'm looking at YOU Virtue :/
Do we need this game? No. It's for fun.
Each server has it's own unique community make-up - and, well - this is sort of like scrapbooking. -
I sort of started it as a joke but it has begun to rekindle my Wiki-love and I think it will turn into a fun project.

The new Victory Wiki can be located here (thanks to Neo Shadowdream for setting it up!):

Yep. That's the idea of a Wiki. It is supposed to function like an encyclopedia comprised of shared knowledge, but you can make your own for whatever you'd like. So, feel free to dive in there ;-)
If you want to see some ridiculous cyber arguments, go watch an RFA (Request For Admin) on Wikipedia. -
I actually may find myself more invested in it than I originally thought... I had a mighty bad Wikipedia-bout back in 2007 where I accumulated over 100,000 edits in a 3 month period.

It's an optional $10 to get a nice add-on to the game. It is not a necessity - so if you don't want it and/or don't want to pay the $10 - then don't.
You still get free content added to the game, which does include, at times, new costumes, powers, etc.
