Sorry, you're not fooling anyone but yourself. You went off on someone over how evil it would be for Paragon to advertise with spam and got called out for obviously misinterpreting another poster's comment, now you're trying to cover your screw up. Badly.
  3. Eh, problem is paranoid alarmists assume just because they COULD track something, they ARE tracking it... That and getting bent out of shape over something being tracked that honestly doesn't affect them at all. Problem is, you can't really argue with them. Seriously, as I said before, why should I give a rat's *** whether Steam knows that I bought a vase on EBay?

You realize that there are more ways than email to advertise, right?

Seriously though, I have got to admit, this thread is slightly embarrassing. For me, I mean. I don't often create threads, or even post in them, for that matter; I'm a huge lurker, and honestly I thought I had posted something that would generate some positive comments. Instead I think I must have come off looking like a troll to many of you. But I assure you, I had NO IDEA that Steam had such a large anti-fan base.
Honestly, it's usually that way among gamers. The more fans a game, dev company, or whatever has, the more anti-fans it has. Same principle seems to apply to movies and music as well.

I don't see how it would make it any less odd. He was saying that sending ads mainly to current customers had something to do with why CoH was bad at attracting new customers.

There are no heroes in Praetoria. You fight everyone, no matter what side you are supposed to be on.

While writing is good, the story interesting - I prefer the simplicity of a sewer of bad guys to beat up. No moral questions.
Me, I'm kinda the opposite. I find black and white morality boring and hard to immerse myself in when it comes to RP or even just reading/watching a story. Can't really suspend my disbelief when too much of it is that cut and dry.

Probably why I always hated Super Boyscout....err, Superman.

Even though Valve does take a cut for Steam purchases, any non-Valve title that doesn't have direct integration with Steam (ie, most games) doesn't require that you run Steam at all. Steam achievements aren't, well, that important (and don't need to be there at all), and any packs would just generate a code that you would enter in the store to receive some stuff.

Also, Steam's huge, and used by a lot of people. The exposure certainly wouldn't hurt.
I don't get where he gets the online requirement comment either. I've been able to run Steam in offline mode and any game that's not specifically an online game ( TF2, etc ) runs just fine without an active internet connection. Was a life saver when I was trapped somewhere in my truck without internet connection for the night. I was still able to play Torchlight on my laptop. ;p

  13. Yeah, Steam achievements are pretty pointless other than self ego-stroking. Steam exclusive vanity items? Heck no!

Yeah, tell that to the bane in my SG who can solo missions with all the settings maxed out in his sleep... Seriously, you almost feel sorry for the mobs watching him.

  16. No, the problem is that Devices is a tattered remnant of what it used to be. And, no, it doesn't play like other Blaster secondaries. Trip Mines are far less useful than they once were, even. Trip mines are also unreliable. They don't trigger way too often, even when a mob walks right over the top of them. It absolutely does not perform up to snuff with other secondaries. Targeting Drone was supposed to be its concession to losing Aim, and it did that job well up until ED. Now it's not worth losing the damage buff portion of Aim. Smoke Grenade? Went from being brokenly powerful due to a bug to absolute rubbish. Cloaking device? With the defense and stealth suppressions, it's pretty "meh" now. Gun Drone is more trouble than it's worth to even bother summoning it. Admittedly, though, it's more useful than its previous stationary version was. Time Bomb? Meh. Can't really drop it in a fight ( Interruptable and seems to draw aggro laying it down ), stealth suppressions make dropping it in a pack before a fight all but impossible, and trying to pull a pack of mobs across it right when it blows is way too finicky to work.

Caltrops is really the set's only saving grace, and that's not worth the rest of the garbage.

Mind Control and Devices are the only ones I'd set as outright bad. The rest are more subjective. Devices is pretty tragic, because it used to be brokenly awesome. When the bugs that made it overpowered were fixed, they went WAY too far with the fixing. It got nerfed into uselessness. ED kinda put the last nail in its coffin. Targeting Drone kept it afloat barely up until that point.

Eh, that's assuming the team you're on has all spec'd for defense in their IO build. And not every AT/power combo can softcap defense with IOs. There's also the entire pre-50 game.

Then there's as an MM secondary. IO set bonuses don't help your pets.

And the other problem? There's just soooo much that can totally tear apart your defense rating. And a few things that outright nullify it.

It doesn't? Funny, burn tankers used to be able to herd entire maps, sit there and take a beating, and slowly burn down the masses with little to no worry. Between resistance and self-heal, they were mass farming machines. They were one of the primary reasons for aggro caps and AOE caps. Burn had been nerfed for a long time to scare mobs out of its patches ( I hear that's changed, I haven't played the set in ages, though ) to try to cut down on burn-herding, but that kind of over-fixed the problem.

Really horrible policy with MMs. They don't get their T3 pet til 26, which is a game-changer in most cases. Then there's the second pet buff at 32, which changes the game yet again.

WS's are, arguably, more numerically badass than PBs. I know that I can solo on x8 with my WS while my PB certainly cannot. Admittedly the WS is 50 while the PB is 30-something, but still.
That would tend to make a slight difference............
