Quote:I'm just glad that I ruffled your feathers so thoroughly!I think you're easily impressed if you're surprised that being abrasive and throwing your weight around provoked a negative response.
Quote:A lot of us just aren't impressed by what you do in game. Despite your frequent posturing about protecting the details of your build(s), neither your Arch/Ment nor your Fire/Ment would be difficult to reproduce, in broad strokes. The strengths of those builds are self-evident and easy to exploit; neither would be particularly difficult to play.
It's "easy" to play because I put in all the leg work coming up with the ideal build philosophy. Where */Mental/Mu is hardly a new idea, it's mostly used for either farming in the case of Archery or big game hunting in the case of Fire.
The ideas are seldom wed, since the farming crowd generally prefers taking a resist toggle and building low amounts of s/l defense, with perma Drain Psyche.
The pylon crowd prefers to softcap s/l with a Mace shield and rely on defense for enough survivability to pump out enough DPS to solo big game.
I wed those two ideas through my build philosophy of taking a resist shield, building perma Drain Psyche, AND building all positional defenses to a small purple inspiration from the softcap.
The builds strike you as easy to play because they're revolutionary in common Blaster build philosophy. My approach to building a Blaster is durable and self sufficient without sacrificing either damage output or survivability, and in fact capitalizing on all of the above to an unprecedented thorough extent on a single build, throughout the entire game, as far as I can tell.
Quote:Don't get me wrong; your over-the-top schtick amuses me, and I don't think you're a bad guy. But you are not, in my estimation, an expert on the game's mechanics or on build strategies. For my part, I've done the Drain-Psyche-abuse thing a few times in various ways with my Fire/Ment over the years, and although it was fun, it didn't hold my interest.
Quote:No one here needs to prove anything. A lot of us got the LOLOMG-uber stuff out of our systems back when you could herd the whole of Crey's Folly into a dumpster and one-shot everything with Knockout Blow. Sure, the first guy who did it might deserve some tiny bit of credit just for the discovery, but the thousandth guy, who learned the key elements of that tactic more or less by rote? Not so much. -
What I would like to do is start posting testimonials of all the awesome stuff our dev's have done for our game, and why they are so important to us, on Cryptic's forums. It would be great to show the Cryptic staff as well as the Champions community why we love our dev's so much and what exactly they have brought to our game, as well as demonstrating how important it is to the COH playerbase to see them working on a similar game and that we would be more likely to head over there as a whole on that basis.

Ay buds,
I haven't been playing much for quite a few days. But my shiny new tower will be here tomorrow according to UPS, and my video card and monitor will be here Saturday according to FedEx. I got tracking numbers!
So there's a good chance I won't have the heart to subject myself to another week of playing on my current archaic trainwreck of a computer, but I'll be online here and in Champions constantly by Saturday evening.
(btw Stone: I'm buying a Batplane on day 1. So suck it!)
-
I love how awesome this is. Holy carp! THB has created game mechanic fueled, passionate debate, with a side of hatred, after the game has been cancelled.
Don't get me wrong, I plan to perpetuate the HELL out of this, make you all angry and milk it for as long as it lasts... But I just wanted to express appreciation for a minute. I like you guys. -

Quote:The revenge I want to see is all the fired members of the Paragon Studio to get their own game development studio, get some serious funding, kickstarter maybe, and role out a new MMO that blows everything out the water. NCSoft can only watch and feel shame as they realize what they let go.
I think you misspelled, "I'd like to see all the Paragon Devs go work for Cryptic!"
-
Quote:Good grief. Zip up your pants there, THB. No one wants to see that and the ruler doesn't make it more appealing.
I kid. This thread is funny stuff.
Hahaha yes! I love being called a *redacted*, bully; And I love arguing about COH stuff. It makes me feel like the game is just gonna last forever.. This is a big part of the fun for me. -
Quote:Prove it.Playing at 50 is just a crutch for people who can't calculate attribmods in their head. If I want to jump straight to level 50 performance I just design my characters in the costume designer and then play the game in my head before I go to sleep. It takes less time than PLing on Freedom and zoning is faster.
All I've ever seen you prove is your theoretical knowledge of the game, which is awesome. I'm not saying you don't know your stuff...
But say, I'm a goaltender in the NHL. I have a great theoretical understanding of how to be awesome at playing goalie in hockey. I know how to cut off angles, I know how to cover rebounds and take away shots. I can sit here and explain it to you all day, and maybe my theories and my views will be awesome! But that doesn't just mean I know how to actually play.
You talk a lot of smack, and as justified as your smack might be, I've never seen you actually pull it off.
I actually have the characters I talk about. I worked hard on them to get them where they are. I might be the jerk to a lot of people in this discussion, but the fact is that my mains would trump your mains when it comes to in-game performance, based on everything I've ever heard you say about your actual characters.
I just think that's lame. If you're going to be such a big presence in a game that you clearly feel very passionately about, I just don't see the point in not being awesome at it first. -
I'll take a tree pumping out more damage than a SR build moving around more but contributing less any day. Not sure what you're talking about though, honestly... Attacks that root you work into your playing rhythm eventually, to the point that you don't even notice it anymore but still see the high end numbers.
Quote:Yes it does. Assuming you PL it to 50. If you actually play your characters instead, Titan Weapons only wrecks MA if you don't kill yourself first. Death is the ultimate debuff, especially when it happens on that side of the keyboard.
The end game is how you evaluate serious performance. I'd love to see your AOE clearing speeds, your ST DPS, and your ability to survive maximum difficulty settings when you INTENTIONALLY perform and play below max level. Playing below level 50 and exemping is choosing to nerf yourself.
And sure- It can be fun sometimes! I have two new characters that I'm currently playing through each level at the moment, in fact!
The difference is that I don't think their performance MATTERS. I'm making a CHOICE to play below the optimal level of performance. Obviously it's going to be a grind fest, because as soon as I've played them for over 3 hours, they could be level 50 anyways for nothing but some inf.
I just don't get the "Arguing for the Rights of Low Level Characters" thing. Low level characters are casual alts. If they were anything but casual alts, they would be purpled out and level 50 already. What is the point in trying to justify characters based on that premise...? -
Quote:lul, defensive overkill...? Fiery Aura or gtfo. Why would you play Stone? /FA will do more damage. The entire point is to be able to live to a reasonable extent in all situations. If I'm going to play something with both Titan Weapons and Shadow Meld, I might as well play a Stone Tanker so I can be immobile while I'm being inactive.
If I have to choose between having:
50% uptime on Shadow Meld, with Burn and Fiery Embrace, plus moderate resists and a self heal...
VS.
A recharge debuff gimping my spawn clearing speeds, AND no fiery embrace or burn, slowing my kill rates even more... Even against ST's... Wow I must be a retard! Good thing I can sit here and spreadsheet survive while I think about how stupid I am for not going FA!
Also, you play MA on your main, I think...?
Titan Weapons wrecks MA. My TW/Fa crits AND hits for over 1k damage on 2 of the attacks in his ST chain. He also has room for -res procs in said chain, and he even has the damage to compete with my SS/FA Brute's AOE speed, if he had a full time taunt aura.
Quote:If I'm going to solo Giant Monsters, it'll be on my Ill/Rad while eating a sammich and watching TV. -
Quote:Hahaha there's just no point in playing SR. Play a TW/FA Scrapper like a champ. Shadow meld and Demonic Aura when you need it! You can get 50% uptime on the former. If you really feel that you need it, DDR ageless. But you can hit 32.5% to all positions (Defensive Sweep for Melee,) with 50% uptime on Shadow Meld, and still have Burn and Fiery Embrace. There's just no discernible reason to play SR or anything else but FA at the high end...When you're using the secondary that caps out three times higher than those buffs? Its possible I might blink once or twice. There might be some actual eyebrow ascension.
UNLESS...
You make a Mental Blaster!
Because, especially with the blast set buffs... Way faster spawn clearing speeds via crashless nukes. And not only the ability to solo GM's like a champ... Which even the best Scrappers struggle to do, assuming they can do it at all (I know my purpled out TW/FA can't...) You can do it quickly and efficiently on an i24 Fire/Ment! WINNING! -

CoH Spritual Successor: What Would You Name It?
Uh.. It was already named Champions Online. Years ago. -
Quote:THAT made me laugh.
Thanks.
Hey, at least you're being honest. As a consumer, that's a fine, principled stance you're taking. No great scheme or movement, just... "You personally pissed me off--I'll take my business elsewhere." Businesses in my country (the United States) used to thrive or fall based on their customers principles and loyalty. If we were still living in a world like that, we wouldn't be in this mess.
Honestly I think I'm just as annoyed at people trying to make this into some elaborate "OccupyWallstreet" sort of thing where they're like, trying to take money or business away from NCSoft, like they matter.
I mean just chill. NCSoft obviously doesn't need your business or they wouldn't be cancelling your game. Just have fun with it while it lasts and try to find what you liked about COH elsewhere. -
Responding strictly to the topic:
Quote:1.) Shake my fist at my monitor for a second. If NCsoft refuses to comply, and the game shuts down, What is our revenge scheme?
2.) Go play Champions and have fun.
3.) Make sure I take screens and videos of all my most awesome COH stuff before the game ends.
4.) Never play an NCSoft game again. Not because I think it will matter, or to join a rogue group of 16 year olds in their internet movement. But just because they personally pissed me off, so I personally won't give them my business anymore.
5.) Champions has Batplanes. Dude... Batplanes. Cheer up. -
Quote:Now that you have a computer capable of capturing video without exploding, like all gaming rigs not made by Keebler Elves, that would be my recommendation yes.
That's the plan!
On a scale of 1-10, how much will you cry whilst your spreadsheets explode and Paragon City crumbles around a Blaster with no secondary set buffs whatsoever soloing 54x8 Carnies and GM's?
(It works out well, since you'll have time to redeem yourself for playing Super Reflexes all these years.. By making the ultimate the AT! The BLASTER! I'll talk more, uh according to the forums, the bad word for poop.. once I've recorded video evidence of my point though.) -

Quote:Issue 24: COH Closes! Sub-named, Arcanaville posts Fraps stats on the Blaster forums!I upgraded my (registered) Fraps from 3.2.x to 3.5.9 this past weekend and holy moley the recording performance jumped upward dramatically. Also somewhere between 3.2 and 3.5 they added circular buffer recording, which means it will record the last X seconds of video with circular overwrite, and "starting" a recording will keep the last X seconds from the past, which is a really nice feature: you can record something that already happened. And turning it on doesn't really slow my client down noticeably. And X is adjustable based solely on how much disk you want the buffer to eat up.
(Yup. I just trolled you. BYTTTCH.)
EDIT
Also. So like, I should pick the most recent version when my computer all gets here next weekend? I'm not seeing inherently funny, condescending or informative stuff in your post, so I guess I'm just struggling to understand what you're talking about... Unless of course...

I made a stealth, hide-mode Dual Blades/Ninjitsu Stalker the other day for a similar purpose. I don't have any Stalkers, and I've never played either of those sets. I have the reverse problem of you since I never play Blueside... But I plan to solo this guy through Paragon before the doors shut.
Good luck to you- Doesn't seem like you have much variety in mind, so I would just go with the Inv Brute. It's as easy mode as you'll probably get with those choices.. Shrug. -
Haha. I'm sure it was great! So many posters spent the majority of their time on the boards being a pain in the ars (try to guess what just happened with that word,) correcting people who were actually talking about the game. "I know you have an opinion about something that's important to you, but you did not phrase it appropriately! So this is my contribution to the thread! Please excuse me while I go spam my post count up elsewhere, without ever actually saying ANYTHING!"
I don't know about anyone else, but I feel very passionately about this game. I intend to assert my COH compassion until I can no longer do so. If you don't like the wording I use in the process, well.. I dunno. Write a poem about it or something. I'll get my violin out if you want. -
As much as I love COH, I've always been annoyed by the trivial vocabulary restrictions and other forms of disney channel level mandatory political correctness. Right now NCSoft is responsible for our forums and I really don't care if they get mad at me for saying boo boo naughty words, lul. The in game culture has always been radically different than the forum culture and I think if there's one good thing about the game closing, it's that more people are speaking more candidly on the forums without worrying about the player run post-police showing up on their virtual door step.

Quote:I'd probably try it out, but for two reasons I shall not:
1: I'm not a billionare
2: Its not tri-form.
Yeah my Warshade was tri form for quite a while. It's definitely a really fun playstyle, but I made the switch to human only forever ago because tri form builds feel so unbalanced to me.
Eclipse is awesome and everything, but I don't like being overly-reliant on it. I remember the scramble in certain AV fights during TF's and even during trials, where it just felt like I went from playing a very solid character to a glass cannon, and without any real amount of DPS to show for it. Solo, my Warshade couldn't even reliably solo 54x8 on a tri form build without relying *heavily* on inspirations. I just never felt self-sufficient.
I know AIB has done incredible things with his Shade, like soloing AV's in Dwarf form... But he also has a way more cautious playstyle than me. He's a great player- Definitely one of my favorite people to play with- But we have way different mentalities. He's all about tactics, pre-planning and playing with caution... Which is just the opposite of how I like to play. I like to play all of my characters like they have a fury bar, just charge in and get it done. I stop having fun when I start putting too much emphasis into planning out tactical ways to handle enemies. I just like to god mode stuff, and human form with my build is perfect for that. -
Quote:I respectively disagree with his assertion that our closure would hurt NCSoft in either the short or long term. We are a very small segment of even the NA MMO gamer population. The vow to never buy another NCSoft title is hardly a monolithic stance among us. Most MMO gamers realize that MMOs close, although true not as many that have been around for as long as CoH. While our organized efforts have been well publicized by MMO news sites, the shear amount of daily news quickly scrolls us off the front page. Same is true with the majority of celebrity re-tweets and posts on their websites.
It's not like NCSoft is powering their games with the hearts of dead orphans. There isn't some big social concern that would rally non-players of our game to our cause and join an NCSoft boycott. And when Blade & Soul and WildStar finally comes to the US, several thousand gamers, most who wouldn't be interested in those games for one reason or other, vowing not to buy it won't even register. It's the inverse of the pirating argument where publishers believe that every pirated equals a lost sale. Vowing to never buy from someone when they don't have anything you wanted anyways isn't a threat. And not buying into a wildly popular new game from them such as GW3 impacts the revenue that game is generating insignificantly enough to not be noticed.
The problem is since we've lasted as long as we have, we believed that this game would be treated like Ultima Online or Everquest as one of the grand old, historically significant games that are limping along with a loyal player base. Yes we feel betrayed. Yes we are grieving at the loss of a world we routinely escape to but in the grand scheme of things we can barely make a ripple in the ocean of available revenue that all MMOs are fighting over. We can hope some benefactor will come forward and takeover from NCSoft and reconstitute at least part of the Paragon Studio team. But if you think our sudden closure or our vow to never spend money on another NCSoft game would actually harm them in someway, is wishful thinking at best, delusional at worst.
Yeah, what Santa said. Really, NCSoft doesn't give a damn about COH players because they can afford not to give a damn about us. I mean, bad PR to the extent that they've been getting could *maybe* get them to sell the game, but I just don't see it happening and I don't see a buyer. If they were willing to sell, they probably wouldn't have fired all of our devs.
For what it's worth, even if COH was profitable, it just wasn't enough profit for them, evidently. Business decisions are guided by logic, not by sentiment. Yeah lots of us love our game... We have the right to hate NCSoft and never give them our money again, and they have a right to close their own games down and not bat an eyelash over it. If I owned a lemonade stand and it wasn't making as much money as my apple juice stand, I would absolutely shut down the lemonade stand in order to pay for more apple juice. Even if lots of people loved my lemonade. That's just how it works.
I don't hate them for making logical business decisions, which this very well could have been for them. I hate them for sentimental reasons. Because I personally happened to like this game quite a bit. So I personally won't buy their products anymore. Not for any pseudo-logical fiscal-quarterly-earning-spreadsheet-profitable-reasons. I won't buy their **** anymore because they pissed me off. Whether they made the right decision or not. Bam, captialism'd. -
Quote:I'm blown away at how brilliant all that is. I'm also a bit embarrassed that I didn't think to use Dark Extraction to target the dead bodies. DUUUurrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the Unchain Essence bind and Inspiration macros. I'm eager to try all that out!!
Not a problem. I'm glad you're having fun with the build- Definitely my favorite character to play.
