Show some sympathy: Trashmans guide to team support empathy
Hello, and welcome to the team support empathy defender guide! I am your host, Trashman. Now, first things first, ignore the idiots. YOU ARE NOT A HEALER. You are, in fact, a buffer more to speak, since 5 out of 9 of your powers are buffs, and although your heals are important, they are less important than your buffs..
Now you may ask yourself: Why would I trust someone whos name in Trashman? Well, normally you wouldnt, but for this discussion, you will. I have had two team support defenders go past their 40s, one my kin, and the other my emp which made it to 50. I have been playing since beta and have only taken a short break to play WoW which I thoroughly regret. So, you should assume that I have some vague idea of how the game works. Just a hunch.
The guide is separated into five parts: the first one talks about what exactly is a team support empathy defender, the second one describes the powerset itself, the third is your powers where I will also discuss secondaries, the forth, the biggerest one, will talk about strategy, playing, and anything else I skipped, and the fifth is where I tell you to get the hell out of the guide and to play outside or something. Oh and if I say emp, just assume Im talking about a team support one unless Im not. In that case youre screwed.
I am assuming that you are PVEing but I will discuss PVP in the forth part. The forth part is probably the most important part, parts 1-3 are for n00bs trying to get better (If you actually are new, dont take offense. If you need any help with anything personal I mean in game that has to do with your emp, you can reach me in game @Trashman. ) where as the 4th part is for team support emps trying to better themselves. And please, if you are mad at me about something in this guide, if its the idea of a team support empathy and not the actual guide itself, dont bother. Im not here to start a debate. If you desperately need to attack me, PM me. I will argue with you all day long if you want.
Speaking of attacking, I will be focusing on three secondaries: Psy, Rad, and Dark. They have the best secondary effects for teaming.
Part I: But I wanna heal!
Empathy is one of the most team intensive builds out there. It has created the most controversy of probably all the defender class. And its the most misunderstood.
In order to understand empathy, you must see it not as a healer. In fact, if I even hear the word healer come out of your mouth in reference to empathy, I will personally eat your soul. Ive done it before.
Empathy is about buffs. 5 out of the 9 powers in the set are buffs. We should be getting R U BUFF3r????? instead of the usual R U H3aLORZ????. But dont call it a buffer either. Call it empathy, because to maximize the sets power to its fullest, you have to use all the powers in synergy.
Finally, you have to understand the benefits, the disadvantages, and the differences of a balanced empathy, a pure healer, and a pure empathy. That way, you can find if a team support emp is right for you without reading any further.
A balanced emp uses both their primary and secondary powers to better either the team or just to attack. The benefits of a balanced emp is that they are A) They have the potential to outperform team support empathy since they have both their attacks and primaries enhanced (Although, if you give everyone a 10% extra boost to everything that the balanced emp didnt, it might even out) B) They have much more solo capability C) It is a more widely accepted build. The disadvantages of it is A) It takes a while for you to enhance both your attacks and primaries B) You may be so caught up in blasting you forget to buff C) They may have to skip useful powers for attacks
A pure healer is an emp who focuses on his heals. The benefit is actually I cant find a benefit. The problem with this is that you lose out on buffs; you are leeching waiting for something to happen that will make you heal, and you arent contributing to a team.
Finally, a pure empathy is a label more than an actual idea. It is used for many things, some use it as a label for an empathy that takes all or most of both their secondary and primary powers some use it as one who focuses on primaries. In fact, this guide can be described as a pure empathy, but I dont. I added this in here so if you are patrolling the forums and you see pure empathy, you know to expect that it can be anything. By the way, if youre wondering, I consider a pure empathy someone who takes all his primaries and secondaries, Recall friend and tp, and all of one of the ancillary powersets.
Part 2: Ok, so its not a healing set. But I have been living under a rock for the past 5 years and I dont know what empathy is. Could you tell me?
Empathy is a good buffing tool. Its the most team intensive set out there. And its probably the most sought after powerset followed closely by rad. Thats all I really have to say now on to
Part 3: ZOMG! Powers!
Now for the powers. I will list the primary first, then the power pools that are good for you, and then the secondaries. I will list other uses in the forth section for powers that you might not think of
I will list the powers like such
14. 2I win button: (3lvl 10) 4Your ub3rness power, you press this button and all enemies on the map die instantly. You will also regain all health and end. Instantanous recharge and 0 end use.
5Comments: This power is a must, since all the other powers suck. Take it as soon as possible and dominate!
6Slotting: 6 slot with 3 uber and 3 l33t enhancements
1. The place in the order in which the power is
2. Name of power
3. Level you get it at
4. Basic facts about it
5. My opinion on it
6. Recommended slotting. It is assumed that enhancements are SOs
Primary-Empathy
1. Healing Aura : (lvl 1) Its your PBAOE (Where it spreads out in a circle around you) that you will use as both a filler heal between your Heal Other and your usual counter attack to AOEs. It heals about 1/5 of your hp fully slotted.
Comments: This power you should probably take at either lvl 1 or 2. It doesnt matter: Their all good. Use this as a filler between heals and as a counter heal to AOEs.
Slotting: 6 slotted 3 heal 2 recharge and 1 end redux
2. Heal Other : (Lvl 1) Its your single target heal, does more healing than heal aura. Does about twice as much healing as Heal Aura.
Comments: This power you should take, again, at either lvl 1 or 2. Treat it just like healing aura, except more personal. Use it for when single oriented attacks hit someone.
3. Absorb Pain : (lvl 2) Its your mega ultra single target heal, capable of healing anything below a tank back to full health. Takes away some of your health and leaves you incapable of healing yourself with the exception of Regen Aura
Comments: This power is probably the least taken power out of all the primaries, but you will probably want to take it at level 4. Why at level 4? Well first of all you will have three heals at you disposal that allow you more leeway. Secondly you wont have any good team attacks by level 4.
Slotting: Doesnt need any, maybe one heal would suffice.
4. Resurrect : (lvl 6) Bring em up bring em up! What Im not hip? This is your Oh ***** power that you will use if something goes down thats bad. Dont feel bad if you have to use it if your like me and try to keep count of the deaths (I lost count) youll hate this power.
Comments: Again, stuff goes down that you cant control, and you have to use it. Pick it up, even if youre prefect, youll need it once every two teams at least.
Slotting: 1 recharge should suffice.
You should be seeing a pattern here. Basically, take all primary powers as soon as you can.
5. Clear Mind : (lvl 8) Releases people from mezes, holds, etc. The one thing it does not protect against is HIV and knockback. So those pesky COT earthquakes are still a nuisance.
Comments: Just keep it up. Keep the buff up. You would be surprised the rise in efficiency this will do. Only you will be mezzed.
Slotting: Again, 1 enhancement, probably recharge is best, would suffice.
6. Fortitude : (lvl 12) Ah, the apple of my eye. Fort is probably one of the best buffs in the game. This increases acc, damage, and defense by a sizable amount.
Comments: Very good buff, again, take it please as soon as you can. If you hate this guide, at least take this advice: Take it as soon as you can.
Slotting: 3 recharge, 3 defense buffs (or substitute a 1 to-hit buff in the 3 defense buffs)
7. Recovery Aura : (lvl 18) OMG! RA! Yes the infamous RA. Enhances everyone within ranges end recovery. Get it. Love it.
Comments: Get it. One of the highlights of the empathy powerset. This and its brother Regeneration Aura are the best
Slotting: 3 recharge, 3 end mod
8. Regeneration Aura : (lvl 26) Same as RA, but raises the health regen of everyone around you.
Comments: Ok, some people hate it and most people love it. Believe me; its like having heal aura on auto. Which you shouldnt do.
Slotting: 3 recharge, 3 heal
9. Adrenalin Boost : (lvl 32) Your I win power. It raises the targets end recovery, health regen, and recharge to where its like a regen scrapper on crack. This turns blasters into tank mages.
Comments: If you dont get this I shoot.
Slotting: 3 recharge, 2 heal, 1 end mod (I believe without the end mod it doesnt make blasters recover their end after a nova)
Power Pools:
Fitness : Ok, you DO NOT need this. I am adding this in there as a choice. Basically, if you choose this, because I know you want to choose this for stamina, you have to either take out 3 secondaries, your leadership, or some of your primaries. You may want this, but I dont recommend this. Why?
1). You are almost always on a team. Chances are, others are going to have some kind of end recovery buff.
2). You have recovery aura.
3). You have to take out some vital team powers.
Leadership : I full heartedly recommend this. I will discuss why it helps in my forth part, but for now, trust me on this.
Maneuvers : Increases the defense for everyone in range. 3 defense and 1 end redux suggested. Every little bit helps, and again I discuss a further use for this in the forth section.
Assault : Increases the attack of everyone in range. Suggest slotting is 1 end redux.
Tactics : Increases the to-hit of everyone in range. Suggested slotting is 3 to-hit buffs, 1 end redux.
Vengeance : Greatly increases the defense, to-hit, damage, and heals everyone in range when activated. Must be targeting a dead teammate. Suggested slotting is 2 heal 2 defense 2 to-hit
Concealment : This has two powers that are good for empathies, grant invisibility and stealth.
Grant Invisibility : This power makes one teammate invisible and increases his defense. 3 defense and 1 end redux.
Stealth : This power makes you harder to detect by enemies. This is good for an empathy since it reduces the agro you will get. 2 end redux.
Speed & Teleportation : These two powersets are good because both of the movement powers require two powers that are good for an emp.
Hasten : Increases the recharge of all of your attacks. 3 recharges.
Recall friend : Recalls a friend to your location. Helpful if you need to resurrect someone thats far away from you.
Now we have a choice between super speed or teleportation. Superspeed is easier to use, but teleportation gets there quicker and you dont have to go over obstacles. Your choice.
Secondaries: There are 3 secondaries that are good for a team support emp: Psy, Rad, and Dark. I will go over the optimal powers from it.
Psy - It focuses on control. If you want to be a semi-controller, this is the secondary for you.
1. Will Domination : Makes em take a nap.
2. Psionic Tornado : Rolls over them like a tornado
3. Scramble Thoughts : Disorients them.
Rad - Reduces their defense.
1. Irradiate : Emits Radiation all around you. That ruins anyones day and lowers their defense. Win-win except for them of course.
2. Electron Haze : Knocks down things, and of course lowers their defense.
3. Neutron Bomb : Everyone gets radiation!
Dark - Reduces to-hit and controls them. Jack-of-all trades. Sitting on the fence and not man enough to go on a side? This is for you!
1. Dark Pit : Disorients all of them.
2. Tenebrous Tentacles : Immobilizes, reduces their to-hit buffs, and has fluffiness of doom! All the good stuff.
3. Night Fall : Makes it hella hard to see you. Reduces their to-hit buff.
So which is my pick? I am biased, but dark. Rad seems to be just defense and psy is mostly single target control except tornado which is a little unpredictable.
So, we have all that out of the way, maybe we can get on to
Part 4: How to emp!
So here it is the long one. The manifesto. The thing that will hopefully make you come away from this guide feeling like you can take on the world. Ooo la la. This forth part will be divided up into four parts. Teaming, use of powers, level strategies, and miscellaneous stuff.
[u]Teaming: The bane of my sanity [u]
Ah teams. Cant stand them, cant level without them. And this is where most emps fail: They cant find a team.
Now you could just type in lvl ___ team support emp lft and hope you get lucky. Or
You could make your own team. This is the best choice ever. The problem with putting yourself out (/e giggle) is that you can get really sucky teams. Actually, you do get really sucky teams. You will get really sucky teams. Thats not to say they wont work. Ive joined teams that sucked really bad but when I came on there they became below average. But when you make your own team, you will be the decider. You can control what happens. Only YOU can stop forest fires and bad teams.
But ask yourself, what happens if I dont have enough time to make a team? Enough time is at least one hour. Well, get yerself a blaster and sk him up. Try to get it within your power range. Ie: If you have SOs, try to get someone with SOs. If you have a tier 9 power, get someone with a Tier 9 power. Things like that. This is your solo. Focus all buffs on the blaster and alternate RA and AB. This practice is known as Tank-Maging.
But what about a big team? Say you have an hour or more to spare, what about then? (By the way, the more is better since every moment a team works together, they get more comfortable, start knowing each others playing styles, and start having more leeway for mistakes since someone is probably going be there to cover them). But to do this we need
Trashmans mini guide to a ubtastic team
Ok lets take this step by step.
1. Preparation. Make sure you have enough time. Pick a contact whose villain group is easy to handle and make sure you have a door mission coming up. If its a hunt, clear it. Nothing says Im a bad leader more than someone who doesnt know which mission they are going to do. Make sure your difficulty slider is set to the level you want (Just some advice, 1-15 heroic, 15-22 tenacious, 22-26 Rugged, 26-32 Unyielding, and 32-50 invincible. You may be able to move up a level based on your team or your own skill, I started doing invincible at 22, but the levels I gave are just the minimal level you should shoot for.)
2. Team composer. Have a team that is +1 -1 to your level unless your playing invinc or someone has a friend that fits your AT needs. A perfect team composer for an emp would be:
1 Ice/Ice Tank
1 BS/Regen scrap
1 Rad/Rad Psy defender
1 You
2 Mind/TA controllers
1 Fire/Dev blaster
1 AR/Dev blaster
But since that doesnt always work, and youll probably never even have that kind of team in your career, so well whittle it down to:
1 Tank
1 Scrap
2 Defender (1 of which is you)
2 Controllers
2 Blasters
This set-up should make up 95% of your teams and shouldnt be that hard to start, maybe 10 minutes. Try to not get the same type of powersets, especially emp. It gets confusing with the same buffs. In later levels it will get harder, but if your still looking just start the team you have on a mission. If you absolutely cant do that, then try:
5 Support
3 Damage
Tanks are support by the way. This is only last resort. Note, any team composer can work. These are just the best ways to make them.
3. Missioning. Thats right, now you start the missions. Select your missions. Now, this is important: Rule with an iron fist. If anyone questions your judgment, be aggressive. Explain to them why your right and they need to go to hell. Well, don't say that exactly, but enforce it. I wouldn't use the kick button unless he/she is really really detrimental to a team, but instead hold your ground. He/she will either adhere to it or leave. You should also develop your own "spin" to teams. Make it your own. I for instance, labeled one of the players as a scapegoat and said if anything goes wrong, its his or her fault. I of course am careful of who I choose, I usually choose someone know has a fifty because they are usually more relaxed or someone who I can see is "loose".
[u]Powers: Your I win buttons.[u]
Ok, I will run down the powers again except I will now give strategic and other uses of your primary and power pools.
1. Heal Aura - When other people see green little numbers over there head, they seem to get a boost of confidence, even if your not taking any damage. So just hit it every few moments even if your not taking damage. And try to hit it when you see an AOE coming.
2. Heal Other - Again, same as heal aura. Do this too blaster, they especially like when they see it.
3. Absorb Pain - Truthfully, its only use is to heal tanks when their about to die and as a last resort heal. Not really any strategic advantage.
4. Resurrect - The best strategic value of this thing is don't use it. Claim you have it, and your teammates will be a little looser on how they attack. Not a whole lot, just a little. One of the main problems with teams is that they don't know how far they can go. When your on the team with this build, they can go really far. This is one of those ways to make them work to the teams fullest potential.
5. Clear Mind - *puts on unstoppable* Keep this buffed on everyone. *dodges the bullets and flames* Seriously. I did it throughout my emp career. This puppy will let your team go and go unless you have one of those pesky earthquakes. Again, raises their confidence.
6. Fortitude - Fully buffed, you can consistently keep this on 4 people, and inconsistently keep it on 5. I recommend going for 4 people. Using my 1 tank, 1 scrap, 2 def, 2 controller, and 2 blaster set up, keep it on the tank, scrap, and 2 blasters. If your team has a different set up, adapt.
7. Recovery Aura - Just saying "Gather for RA" makes people giggle with joy. This just raises moral.
8. Regen Aura - Don't you dare say this is useless. This is like heal aura on auto, which by the way, you really shouldn't do. This gives the same moral boost as the other RA.
9. Adrenalin Boost - Ok, this makes the target feel invincible. Because, in fact, he/she is. I had one blaster die with this puppy on, and that was when he was herding +2s to nova and my phone rang. Well, maybe not. But in a full team, keep this baby stored until a crazy blaster esplodes and leaves a gooey mess everywhere (of blood you sickos). This will make them regen end.
Power Pools
Grant Invis - This makes it so those crazy esploding blasters don't agro anything else and wipe the whole team. You know how they are... I'd recommend not invising the tank, although the stealth suppression should kick in once in combat.
Maneuvers, Assault, Tactics, Vengeance - These all suffer from the placebo affect. In other words, even if they are not that large of a buff, the team will still feel that they are being helped tremendously. The size of their buff window directly corresponds to their confidence level. The most startling one is vengeance. Don't get me wrong, its a great power, but it also offsets some of the frustration of someone dying. Add a bind that says something like, "$Target, your death shall not be in vain! By the power within me, we shall have vengeance!". It starts making people feel butterflies in their stomach.
Hasten -Not really anything here...
Recall Friend -Great power. If you use Teleport correctly, you'll be the first one there. It also allows you to pull people outta combat to heal/rez them.
Teleport -Ok, this may be a longshot and hard to do, I never did this, but this could be for dramatic effect. If your a blaster, about to be dead, and suddenly a flashing light comes and before you know it your back to full health, dont you think that it would just be a wow effect? Again, just a thought.
[u]Leveling Strategies: Fighting the good fight[u]
Ok, here it goes...
1-10 : The first few levels are easy. Solo is probably your best bet 1-4, and then sewer teams. Don't join a sewer team until you have gotten heal other and heal aura. This time is a good practice of crisis management. You'll be running around with a bunch of underpreforming heroes who dont have a grasp on their powers, and all you have are your heals. Take this time to practice it. There will be times when all you buffs are set up and yet you still have people dropping to red everywhere, and thats when its time to go into healer mode. Use it. After a sewer team, try making a regular team.
10-20 : At level 10 you'll have rez, cm, your pre requisite to your travel power, and your 3 heals. Make a hollows team and work on that. You are trying to practice making teams where the debt aint that bad and people arent tired of their characters just yet. At level 12 you should have fort. You probably will only be able to get 2 people buffed. Also, dont buy DOs unless your funded. Wait for SOs to buy enhancments. At about level 15 you want to divert from the hollows and either try a TF or a regular team. The reason for this is that you will now have a travel power and being confined in one zone is not such a necissity. I recommend skipping the Positron TF, but if you can get skd into the Synapse, thats alot of fun. At 18 you'll get RA. By this time you will be keeping up alot of buffs, but don't worry if its hard. It'll get easier once you get used to it.
20-30 : Ah the glory levels. By now most of your buffs are in place and at 22 or 25 (depending on if your funded) you'll start getting SOs. You'll also be getting better and better and making teams. I had the funnest time of my career at this point. I made alot of my friends and got alot of my complements at this stage. At 26 you'll have the other RA, probably all your leaderships in place. By 30 you should have all your buffs except AB. You will also be fully slotted for SOs. Just make teams, set it on whatever setting you can handle, and do anything and everthing. SI and Croatoa are really good mission spots.
30-35 : I put till 35 because 35-42 is one of the largest stretches. You will be a buff machine by now, and nothing will be able to stop your teams. At 32 you will become a complete buffer, although your attacks and epics will not yet be in place. 35 is your first attack, and probably will be your best debuff/hold. Just do the same as 20-30.
35-42 : ...So...many...painful...memories...Very very hard. I actually thought of quitting at this point. One of the problems of these levels is that you don't seem to be going anywhere, since most of your powers are in place already. The other problem is lack of content. Missions are plentiful, but your not doing anything meaningful. You feel very powerful, yet your still finding out who kidnapped Billy Joe. Just keep making teams or wait for a higher level team to sk you. They are keen on "healers". But, once you get past this, its easy sailing into
42-50 : Much easier. You suddenly are fighting the toughest baddies in all the land and your attacks and buffs are fully functional. You basically have 8 levels to fool around. You will be so in tune with your emp its going to be crazy. You also have 3 levels of anything you want. 3 powers of anything you want. I recommend the energy APP (conserve energy and power boost) and stealth. Basically all you do here is use your masterfully tuned mission leading skills and talk your way into high level teams. I was going slow at first from 43-44 but at 44 it clicked and I went 6 levels in a week.
[u]The other stuff: Why is this in here? [u]
This is where I address anything that pops up in either things you bring up to my attention that doesnt fit in the guide or just random things that pop to my mind. This will probably be ever changing in my guide.
PVP
I dont PVP much, but I used to belong to a SG that did, so I learned a thing or too. The bad thing about PVP is that usually ATs have to go out of their usual PVE roles and go into something else (Ie: Blasters have to become blasters, tanks have to get more agressive and cant hold the agro of everyone, etc etc). The great thing about you is you don't. Every single power can be transferred over to PVP. You dont have to change anything. The reason why is that people still like pure team emps. Actually, they tend to hate emps that attack more. So my advice for PVP is: Nothing. Use everything from PVE. Just remember that you will die alot.
Hami Raids
Ok, I was a noob at this until recently, but I'll rundown on what you should do.
First off, find out what the time is. Its usually posted in the MOTD of the Hami Raid channel. Then get there about 10 minutes before hand. Shout out that your looking for a group flight team or taunt team. You can do either one, although you may want to choose one over the other.
[u] group flight team [u]-There is a "healing bubble" in a hami raid. Basically its a big dispersion bubble with a bunch of emps in it that everyone follows to not die. Basically this is one of those teams. It will not be comprised of only emps, but there will be usually a leader with group flight who invites people without group flight. That way everyone can be in the dispersion bubble. Your job is to follow the targetter around (the person designated to target the mitos that people need to attack) and put heal aura on auto, which is the only time you should do it. If you want to be good, throw some buffs around and rez the dead.
[u] Taunt team [u]-It starts out the same as group flight, except that it is composed of only emps and a tank, and when you take out some mitos and clear a spot for the tank, the tank then goes down and agros hamidon. You are to go down, get a safe distance away, and buff him. Throw everything you got on him, excluding RAs since you dont want to go near him. That will be your job for the rest of the time.
Your choice. I like the taunt team.
Choas Teams
You will find that there are teams out there that are very hard to manage. Its not that theyre bad (although that may be the case). Its usually that its a situation where its hard to buff and heal your team. There are two instances of where this can happen.
Case 1 : The most common case. Its usually on an outdoor map, with a bunch self confident heroes, usually 50s. Heres the deal: The team starts getting faster and faster, and people either start falling behind or getting ahead. So the team is now split into two groups, each one not willing to go to the other. So they keep fighting, and find they are just doing fine. Which creates a problem. You usually have a system of buffs, selecting the first selection on the list and going down the team. The solution? Its much harder to solve than case 2, although less of a problem when it happens. Try to round everyone up. But since usually the second group is just lagging behind and not fighting, just try and deal with it and buff the team that is fighting.
Case 2 : Less common, but more of a problem. This happens at lower levels when the lower levels are either too cocky or dont know what their doing. Basically everyone is trying to take the alpha, damage, and control. Everyone wants to be the hero of the day, and you have to step up. The solution is to yell at them a bit.

OOC: Actually, he basically cant do anything on his own. He is a negatrologist, a scientist of negative and positive energy, and since he hates the effect of negative energy, he focuses on positive energy, which basically makes him a pure support hero. So he's just waiting in the fields for some other person to come up, and no, he really doesnt care if its hero or villain -
Silander looked blankly at the huge clump of rock. He was not used to people refusing his help.
"Suite yourself. I guess I have to find another one..." he muttered while storming off into the fields. -
A long haired 50ish looking old man looking down at the huge hunk of rock huffed. He didn't like them damn commies. Especially the ones who shot blue stuff and made him tired.
Jumping down from the tree, he went up to the big hunk of rock and whispered "I'm your helper for the day. Good for you." Reaching out his hand, he let out a massive amount of blue energy toward Ragork. "Congradulations. You are now even more invincible." -

* Guild Description:
We are a heavy RP SG on Virtue that is dedicated to fighting the corruption in government. We try to team as much as possible and have many events. We have 20 members currently. -
Well we could of course, lower the minion xp and lower the minion attacks at the same time, and raise the minion spawns. At lower levels, the minions would remain the same and you would only be able to fight 2 or three at a time, but with lowering minion xp and attack and defense, you can fight hordes of minions without getting too much xp or too much damage on you. Then you get to the luietenants. I consider these you OddJobs, your hitmen, your ninja extremes. Then you get to the boss, where you have your guys that seem like their running the operations, but their really not. You know, the smart and tough but not really in charge guys. I DONT KNOW HELP ME OUT!
Then the AVs are the masterminds, your jokers, your lex luthers. Then we get to the monsters which are your giant dooms day devices. But minions are just minions. At level 40 you should be able to take on 20 of them easily. Of course, it shouldn't be worth much xp. But thats just me -
Creeping down the long hallway, Travis, now going under the name Trashman, got out his standard Paragon City issued gun and held it in the ready position. Finally getting to the end of the hallway, Trashman put his back up to the wall and peaked out very slowly around the corner. He learned a few things about what he could do...
Seeing the crazy eyed, wild haired, slightly green druggies as he called them down the hall, he creeped back around the corner. Reaching his gun carefully around the corner and again peeking around the corner, he fired to bullets, one for each of the enemies he saw. Quickly ducking behind the wall again, he took a deep breath and peered out again.
He could see the two bodies on the floor. With a deep sigh of relief, Trashman stepped out. His first KOs...
Gaining confidence, Trashman's strides lengthened. He finally was at a running pace when he ran almost full into a group of the enemies. Figuring he had nothing to loose, Trashman fired five shoots into the group. All of them hit a different target.
Gaining even more confidence, he rushed up the stairs into a large room. He could see the target computer, but he could hear the chatter of the druggies down the other flight of stairs. Sidestepping swiftly out, he fired. Not even checking to make sure the two druggies were dead, he rushed to the computer, loaded the floppy disk, and started the download.
As it was loading, Trashman heard a creeping noise behind him. Slowly turning around, he saw a druggie right behind him, smiling with his yellow teeth. Raising his hand, the druggie took out a rock from his pant pocket and was ready to fire.
Growling and dangerously close to Trashman's skull, he threw the rock. Without realizing it, Trashman reached out and grabbed the rock, span around, and hit the druggie with the butt of his gun. Firing at him just to make sure, Trashman grabbed the floppy disk and ran out.
The sun blinded him as he rushed out of the office. Wanting to get out of the place, fast, he jumped up and took off flying.
Finally reaching Coyote, Trashman almost fell over.
"Good job." Coyote said with a smile "You passed."
"Wha?" Trashman said, confused "Test? This wasn't supposed to be a test..."
"We send heroes here to make sure they are...heroes. We had camaras in that house. Them Contaminated will be back in that house in about half an hour. They probably couldn't hurt a two year old with a toy gun, but its just to see if they really had powers."
"Oh. I was kind of surprised when that druggie got to me..."
"Yeah he was hiding out of site. Seems you got somethin' you didn't tell us."
"What?"
"Hrm..." Suddenly Coyote lunged at Trashman, throwing him off balance. Trashman stumbled down the stairs he was standing on and finally caught himself down at the sidewalk.
"What was that for?"
"Ta see if you had super reflexes. But just one more..." And suddenly Coyote reached down with lightning speed a threw a rock at Trashman. Trashman instantly reached up and caught the rock, spun around, and threw it back.
Coyote quickly ducked down, but the rock followed him and hit him right in the back.
"Ow...well at least its what I expected. In addition to being able to control any projectile that you project, you seem to be able to control any projectile thrown at you. But only if it is a projectile. Any melee attacks your vulnerable too."
"Cool. Where do I go?"
"To Atlas Park. Talk to Ms. Liberty and Azura. They'll hook you up."
"But...how?"
COyote let out a big smile. "Like this." And suddenly he jerked his head back and let out a loud howl. Immediatly Trashman felt himself spinning out of control. And just like that, the spinning stopped and he found himself in the middle of Atlas Plaza.

Justin woke up to find a dirty, damp smell in the air. Like he always had for the past two months. HE had been cooped up in a little cell, not being able to use any powers without having an entire battallion of police officers on him. But this time was different. He could sense something was going on.
Getting up out of bed, he looked down at his pillow. There he saw something shining gold. It looked like a bird of some sort spreading its wings.
"Hey Partner get outta bed there's something goin down and-" said his roommate, Tex, who stopped in mid sentence when he saw Justin's bird. "Holy lord...you got the jail bird..."
"The what my good friend?" Said Justin in his ever persistant stage voice.
"The jail bird. Its given to those Arachnos wants to break out. Comon!"
Getting up quickly, Tex led Justin down the steps quickly. "Yo H.T. Whats up?"
"Another Recluse pawn breakout." Said a big burly man downstairs. "Ey what a minute, he's the jail bird!"
"Yep. Now where is the fulcrum point?" Even Justin knew that was slang for where they had to go to breakout.
"Sewer. Some Arachnos fliers are out there."
"Thanks H.T." And Tex hurried off with Justin right behind him.
Quickly hustling through the sewers, Justin, running quite fast because of his radiation, yelled out to Tex, "Hey comrade, why are they helping us? If anything, they should be trying to stop us."
Nearing the exit, Tex yelled back "No one goes against Arachnos, especially since they might be the ones getting out soon."
"Glory to the king" Justin muttered.
Bursting outside, Tex turned to Justin and said "Hey, this is where I leave you. Anyone but the jailbirds that breakout now won't survive. See ya on the other side."
Justin bowed to Tex than hurried off. He hurried past the other prisoners, the dumber ones, trying to escape, blasting them out of the way if need be. Finally getting to the flyer, he said to the Arachnos pilot "Hey I'm a jailbird. Glory to the current king!"
"Yeah yeah yeah. Get in the plane nutjob. They're security station is about to blow." And hopped into the plane, with Justin following. As they lifted off, they could hear a slight rumbling coming from one of the buildings. Accelerating to full speed, the plane got just out of reach just in time... -

Travis looked around the campsite, shivering and cold. It was beautiful, serene at day, but harsh at night, full of night predators lurking in the shadows waiting to strike. Although he had been living in the forest for quite sometime now, Travis wasnt ready for an animal attack. He just wasnt ready for anything.
Carefully avoiding kicking up any dust that might put out the life saving fire, he turned around and tried to sleep. It wasnt easy. He had a lot of things on his mind. Anyone would
His parents kicked him out only two weeks before. They were searching for any excuse to be rid of him because he had walked on one of their criminal activities, and they thought he might turn them in. So they planted drugs in his room and kicked him out because of it. He was shunned throughout the town, which was crime free until his little story came up, and ran out to the woods.
He wasnt used to being out on his own. He was used to his friends being there, and to a lesser extent, his parents, who were good enough until he found out about them. But now he was alone, and he had to live with it.
He was only eighteen, and he celebrated his birthday on his fifth day out in the wilderness.
Suddenly, he felt a great warmth all over himself. For the first time since he was here, he could stand up in the nighttime without falling over from the cold. He could sense where the warmth was coming from, and there in a tree, lay a round object glowing green. He had been at this campsite what seemed dozens of times, but never before noticed it. Going over to the talisman, he looked around to see if anyone was watching him or if anyone was around, and carefully lifted it up, not knowing what might happen. The talisman rose up from his hand and hovered for a second, and then burst forth into his right arm. It imbedded itself in his arm, leaving a deep, dark red mark that burned him severely when he touched it.
What the he muttered to himself, as he stumbled back from the sheer force and power of the talisman which was making a constant humming noise. It stopped for a second leaving an eerie moment of silence, then settled down completely, leaving a now green mark on his skin. He sat there for a minute, quiet, not knowing what would happen, then settled down and tried to sleep.
The next morning he woke up, searching for the green mark to see if it still was there and it wasnt just a dream. It was real, although he could see more clearly what it was now. It was a horseshoe. What a strange marking. He wondered aloud I thought it would be like a comet or something, but no its not.
He got up and looked around. He realized his food that he knew wasnt poisoned was gone. Sighing heavily, he packed up what little belongings he had into his backpack and went off to catch a wild animal. It was going to be hard since he didnt bring anything to shoot with, but he would take all day if he had too.
After a few hundred yards he came to a clearing with three deer in it. Ducking into some brush and picking up a rock, he waited for the right opportunity to arise. He didnt think it would work, but he might as well try he thought.
An hour later, he was still waiting, and the deer were still there. Its now or never he muttered to himself and threw the rock.
He watched in horror as the rock slipped from his hand too early and flew far to right. But as he watched, he watched in amazement as the rock suddenly turned left, sped up greatly, and hit the deer right in the head. The deer fell immediately and a pool of blood came from his head. Before the other deer could run off, he picked up another rock and threw it, and yet again it honed in on the deer and killed it right on the spot. He let the other deer run off and dragged the two deer to his camp.
Back at his camp, Travis still couldnt believe himself. He was always a horrible shot, but now he could hit anything it seems he wanted to. Just to test it out, he went out and threw rocks at pine cones and tried to make the pine cones go into a basket and sure enough, they all went into the basket and every single rock hit a pine cone. He even threw some the exact opposite way of the pine cone and the rock just turned around and zoomed right into the rock.
He tried many other thing, including his running ability, but none of them were in any way exemplified, just his ability to throw things.
Travis, as any other boy had, had heard of Paragon City. His parents dark lives fueled anger inside of him, and he heard that Paragon Citys heroes fought crime all day long. He longed to go there. So he set out on a quest to get to Paragon City.
But it may take months to get to Rhode Island He thought to himself. Then he had an idea. If I can throw objects and control them, cant I throw myself and be able to control myself? So he launched himself into the air and found he could fly. Joyous, Travis did a few flips in the air and headed to what he hoped was Paragon City

Justin was enjoying himself. He just got a promotion to be the head of this traveling play group, and he couldnt be happier. It was his life long dream to become the head of a play group.
He organized the group a year ago, and ever since his play group has been traveling all over the world, becoming famous for its weird costumes and dramatic scenes. They were currently in Russia, traveling all over doing performances and signing autographs.
Justin started out in the circus as a ringmaster until he finally got enough people to start his own play group. After a few successful samples to various companies, they finally got enough money to go on tour in the United States. After becoming instantly popular, they got offer after offer, finally accepting a huge $1,000,000 contract allowing them to go all over the world. Now, a year later, he is making one grand per show.
Looking into his crew, jostled by the bumpy van, he smiled. After such hard work, they were both lax and professional in what they did. They could remain efficient but have fun at the same time. It was a dream come true.
How long till Moscow? Justin yelled to the driver
Not long, about an hour. The driver yelled back, checking his watch.
Ok, good, we should be arriving there shortly. This should be one hell of a-And then a deafening bang came from outside the van. Vans were tipping over, people flying everywhere. Twenty miles later, a Russian outpost watched in horror as they saw the destruction. It was caused by an unclaimed dirty bomb made in the Cold War.
As the dust cleared, Justin, crushed by a piece of metal from the car, raised his head to look at the damage. He was horrified that he was the only one remaining.
The Russian medical unit came as fast as it could, but it was too late. Only Travis survived, but he had so much radiation in him the medics figured he wouldnt last long. Quickly getting him out of there and leaving the dead to the others, they rushed him to the hospital. Thats when Justin fell unconscious again.
Justin slowly started to lift his eyes. Looking around, he found he was in a hospital room, but feeling great. Greater then he ever did before. Not before long, a nurse came in and sat down beside him.
So how do you feel?
Great better then I have ever before! By god, I think I am super!
The nurse looked at Justin strangely. Are you alright?
What do you mean? Of course I am alright! I have to be, its in the script
Script? Umm, honey, I think that the radiation has caused some damage to your brain.
Ah! So I see! You are the doubter in this act. Well, I have dealt with your kind before, and they shall be punished. All of them. I am sorry mi lady, but this must be done. Fare thy well! Justin said, dramatically, like he would as if he was in a play. Suddenly he jumped up, reached out his hand, and blasted the nurse with fully green radiation. Then, bowing to the window, which was the stage to him, he took off to the streets and ran as fast as he could.
Suddenly something came up and pierced his neck. Looking down at his neck, he saw a tranquilizer sticking out. Feeling the drowsiness come on, he only muttered the words So the king has abandoned me. Wherever I shall be locked up, I shall be freed, and come once again to rule! The king shall be over throne! And slumped to the ground as the police came on top of him, lifting him up into a car. -
Since I am still in college and trying to become a history teacher, I would say I am a lvl 15 mind/wimp controller. The mind comes from my ability to understand history (not trying to brag there) alot and able to teach it to others, also from me being pretty funny in real life and if I actually got in a fight, I could probably (and have done it in a fight) make the guy laugh so hard he wouldn't fight me. The wimp comes from....yeah I don't need to explain that.
I have most of my points stored in wimp
But my dad on the other hand, he's one of the best doctors in Las Vegas. I would rate him as a lvl 26 emp/psi cause while he is a great doctor, he annoys the hell outta me... -
Pacing back and forth in front of his apartment in Talos Island, Roger looked very worried about something. Fist was nowhere to be found.
Boo! Fist said, appearing behind Roger.
Holy what the hell are you doing appearing behind me like that?
The last few weeks had been a great change. Roger and Fist, whos real name is Chris, had quickly become famous among heroes and civilians alike. They were most well known for their exploits against the Rikiti, although they never did find out why the Rikiti were so interested in the Councils armor supply. Chris had become more lively and energetic, while Roger became more cold, distant, and not caring about the world around him. People thought it might be just because of the death of his wife and kids had been eating him up, but when presented with the idea, Roger would just smile and say Think what youd like.
Chris had grown in power and in character. Roger found out that he was often abused by his dad when he was still a non-hero. But one day while he was getting beaten for no reason, he had experienced a mutation that allowed him to fight back and run away. He found he could run incredibly fast, which he now was proclaimed a super speeder by Hero Corps, and could fight like no other.
So, what do we have planned today? Chris asked, bouncing around.
Roger sighed, and said, Well Butch called
Butch? Chris asked, perplexed We moved on from him. I thought we were not taking anything else from him
Yeah well he called. He said that he found out about why the Rikiti were so interested about the Council Armor a few weeks ago. Roger paused, and then said quietly, He said we shouldnt tell the Hero Control Mission Board. He said that it was important.
Huh? Why do you think he would do that? I mean-
I have a suspicion why. I think he looked around, making sure no one was looking that the government was involved with it.
Right. Chris said Well than we better call him up and see what he wants.
He said not to do that, that the wrong people might be listening.
This must be serious.
It is.
So they took the tram to Steel. Roger had grown in power just like Chris. He found out the extent of what his suit could do. He could make a single person practically invincible by pumping their adrenalin up. But this required a lot of positive energy on his part, and had some downsides.
He doesnt tell anyone, but he is cold and distant because it is what fuels his suit. Positive energy is created when you do something that helps the nether world, while Negative energy is created when you do something that harms it. Since it works off the darkness of the world, the more negative feeling you get, which helps fuel the nether world, you create Positive energy around you body. While feelings are the thing that helps or hinders the nether world the most, doing good or bad deeds helps or hinders it. That means that because Roger heals peoples wounds and defeats the evil in the world, he creates a lot of negative energy, so he must remain cold and distant to remain balanced in the energies. He does not tell people, as this might affect the magnitude of the negative feelings.
Im glad you came Butch said quietly, looking around. Ok, I dont know the exact reasons why the Rikiti are so interested in the Councils technology, but I have a lead that might help. And youre the only one I trust that can do it. But first, what do you think the reason is.
Roger was lost in thought for a moment, then, looking down, said, I think that there might be a secret war. A hidden battle between the Council and Rikiti that the government does not know about. Its just that a lot of the missions I have gone on have had some struggle between the two Of course, I have other theories that I may or may not believe more than that one, but that theory is the most reasonable. What about you spaz? Spaz was his nickname for Chris. Over the past few weeks, he had gotten less caring about names and calls everything by his own nicknames.
Chris, looking surprised, said I think the government has something to do with it. I mean, maybe the government funded the Council and just wanted to send heroes in to secure it. Then the government would use it for their own uses.
Butch laughed, and Roger said, Your imagination has gotten a little to ahead of you. The government wouldnt do that, why would they if they could just secure it from the Rikiti?
Chris shot back, Because the Rikiti would know better! They use foreign you know what, never mind! and sulked in the corner.
Typical seventeen year old. Now then, whats your thought? Roger asked Butch
I personally think that there isnt a war yet, but the Rikiti wants to wage one and wants to have every advantage possible. Butch said slowly.
One of my theories too. Now, what do you have for me?
Butch said quietly, A spy for the government that was spying on the Rikiti wants out. He knows something about the Rikiti involvement with the Council and wants extraction ASAP. He is using some Crey mumbo jumbo disguise belt that the government secured for him that lets him look like a Rikiti soldier. He-
Wait, what? Crey disguise belt how long has it been out?
About three months. Still a prototype and the Rikiti disguise is the only one they made. They have several types of Rikiti types, but no mentalists or leaders. Just lieutenants and foot soldiers.
Really oh well, just a coincidence. Continue.
Anyway he was caught in a meeting that he had no authorization to. He doesnt want the government to get him for reasons he would not give unless it was in person. He is currently in a Rikiti prison cell awaiting sentence. We got this about an hour ago and he sent it about three hours ago. In the message he said that he was captured sometime last night, but he doesnt know what hour. That means we dont have much time at all. As Rikiti ritual, he will be tried at the pinnacle of the sun in the sky. That means Butch looked at his watch its 9:36 right now. Lets shoot for noon that the sun will be at the pinnacle. You do not have much time.
Understood. Well-
Wait. This is not like your other missions. You cannot do it like you usually do. You must stick together. They might even be expecting you.
Whats the estimated time of completion?
Hard to say. Trial takes about an hour, so you probably have till 1:00 pm. You have a time limit. Just do it fast.
Well, do we have to kill them all?
Well, no. But you cannot go invisible because of the damn mentalist leaders, and we do not know if the user of the belt can come in contact with negative energy without dying.
But negative energy-
I know it just neutralizes. But we found some Crey agents in an alleyway a few weeks ago. From what the scientist and doctors say, they were wearing a disguise belt and came into contact with energy from the nether world. Negative energy.
D-d-do you know what killed them? Roger stammered, looking pale and alert.
Butch looked at Roger inquisitively. Well we believe it was a rouge Skull Bone Daddy that took a shot at them and took them down.
Oh my was there a body a body of a woman?
Why do you want to know? Butch asked suspiciously.
Just answer the damn question! Roger snapped back.
Well, we saw some burns from plasma shots, and we saw the body of the Bone Daddy, but no, we didnt find a body of a woman mind you, this is just from memory.
Roger muttered to himself, Probably just a coincidence. Then he spoke loudly to Butch Where can I find more information about it?
Well, you can probably go to Hero Corps. They were the ones who organized the investigation of the scene. But lets not dwell on the past.
Right. Ok anyway where is the place?
Butch said, quietly again In Atlas Park. The apparently have set up an underground base. Its not like them Circle of Thorns caves, looks like its a modernized base. There are probably traps and the like. Be careful.
Will do. Anything else?
No. Get a move on, you dont have much time.
Understood, moving out.
As Roger walked down the steps, Chris got up from the corner and scurried after him.
So we speedin to the tram? Chris asked.
No I want to think. Just, dont bother me. Not that youll listen.
Chris and Roger walked like any citizen would. Roger was deep in though when, about halfway to the tram, a voice from an alleyway awoke him.
So you wish to battle the Rikiti? the voice mysteriously said from the alleyway.
Turning quickly toward the alleyway, Roger said meekly, Yes do you know something about it?
Yes I do. A cloaked figure walked out of the darkness, its face covered by its hood.
Who are you? Roger asked meekly.
My name is not important. You can call me the council if you wish the voice had a majestic and wise quality to it. You do not have to trust me, but listen to what I say. The journey you are about to embark on is not what you think. Believe me when I say this. Listen with your mind, not your ears. You are a product of propaganda; you have been exposed to it for many years. But the young one, the figure made a gesture to Chris has not been. Value his opinion. The government is not to be trusted. The greed of men corrupts it.
What? Roger asked, confused.
Just remember that for every good action a person does a bad action occurs also. Do not trust what you hear or see. Trust what people think more than anything. I will need you later you will become an envoy to my crusade
Wait! Roger said, running toward the figure. But the figure had disappeared.
What was that about? Chris asked.
I dont know. Maybe it does have something to No. Your wrong and shes wrong.
Thanks for the support. Anyway, lets get a move on.
Yes lets get a move on. And at once Roger disappeared with a blast of darkness, followed by Chris.
Getting up from his fall, Roger looked around. They had gone to Atlas and found where Butch had indicated, but there was nothing there. But Roger sent a blast of positive energy around him, which indicated the hidden door they were supposed to go in. Roger opened the door, and, not realizing that it was total darkness inside, stepped in.
He got up, and found it was getting brighter and brighter until everything was illuminated. He looked up and saw that there were stairs leading up to the door.
The entire lab was full of gadgets. Rikiti technology galore filled the rooms. It did not have a Crey lab feel, where everything was white, but instead was gloomier, and was not as sterile. The Rikiti apparently did not care about looks or style.
Well, we might as well go. Roger said as Chris stepped down the stairs. I guess that they use different lights then us took me a moment to get focused to it.
Hearing the steps of the soldiers, Roger and Chris stepped in, not knowing what would happen that day -
First off Fred said, sizing up both of the heroes you need to choose a contact.
A contact? I thought you were our contact Roger said, almost muttering.
Laughing, Fred replied, You could say that. Im your contact to a contact. Anyway, we have numerous contacts stationed around the city .hrm .theres a clockwork guy, someone who focuses on Nemesis
Any contacts on Rikiti? Roger said quickly.
Rikiti? Fred asked, surprised. Heh, never had someone want to go battle Rikiti. Nasty bunch. But yeah, Butch Hartman has a few things. I got to warn you, he will expect a lot from you.
Ive battled Rikiti before. Not a big deal.
Ok. Butch is stationed in Steel. He usually hangs out in a parking garage. Heres a map of his position. Fred reached down into his desk and pulled out a map. Here ya go.
Thanks. Come on spaz, we got work to do. Roger said, smiling.
Ok sir Fist replied, slowly walking.
Right. Anyway, so long.
Stepping out of the office and down the elevators, Roger walked out of the building and surveyed his surroundings. He was in Steel Canyon, right in the heart of the zone. He got out his map and began to check it.
Says Butch is up the road a bit. Can you go fast? Roger asked Fist.
No sir. Im not classified under a super speeder yet.
Dont call me sir... Ok, I can give you a ride there, but its a short distance, about one forth of a mile from here, well walk. Roger said with a sigh.
Ok, fine. Fist said depressed.
As they walked down the sidewalk, they saw some Outcasts shaking down someone.
Hey kid, want to test out your abilities?
Sure thing si- yes I would.
Ok, on my signal go!
Fist raced in to the gang, avoiding all the fists that were flying while he himself doing massive damage with his quick and precise blows to all of the Outcasts. Roger was staying behind, concentrating positive energy into Fist while also neutralizing the enemies. In a matter of minutes, the battle was over.
Roger checked a panel in his arm. Good work kid. Come on, lets go.
Pretty soon they got to Butch. He was a puny guy but had the look of a killer. Roger had no doubt in his mind that he was probably a killer.
Fred sent us. Names Roger.
Butch just looked at them coldly. Good. Now, we have a situation in Talos that needs to be solved ASAP. The Rikiti took over a Council lab at 6:00 a.m. this morning. That means three hours has gone by already. We wouldve sent for someone already to go in there but we have only just heard it when a fleeing civilian came and told us. You know the way. Do this one right and maybe we can work together more. Find out what the Rikiti want to do there and then destroy all the aliens in the lab. Over and out.
Ok the tram to Talos is a bit far, Ill head over there and bring you there. And in a blast of darkness he was gone.
As the stood in front of the lab, they were surprised in how well hidden it was.
We goin in there? Fist asked nervously.
Yeah. Anyway, be careful in there. Roger said, looking at Fist.
Sure thing.
As they stepped into the lab, they were blinded by the whiteness of it all. But they stepped forward, down the steps and into the hallway.
The hallway was completely white. It was a four-way hallway, but the two heroes could not see any signs of Rikiti resistance. They turned left and around a corner when they saw them.
Wait! Roger exclaimed Go down the left first. They have a gap in there. Ill go in there. You stay back here.
What? I am not staying back here! Fist fired back, the first time he showed attitude. I can handle it!
Youre only a kid! Roger replied, furious You cant just throw away your life like this!
Throw away my life? Just give me a chance. You can pull me out cant you?
Roger stopped for a moment. I suppose I can pull you out Ok, but you screw it up youre staying back!
Fine.
Ok, now go! Roger said when he saw a weakness.
Fist ran in there as fast as he could. Dodging all the blasts directed toward him, he jump kicked a gunner into the wall while holding back a soldier. Spinning, he raised his legs up and felt a power surge go throughout his whole body. He felt stronger than ever.
Ducking, he saw a communications officer that was managing a portal. Weaving through the group of Rikiti, he landed on the officer and knocked him unconscious. Then he took out the computer managing the portal. The rest of the Rikiti fell easily.
Nothing in this room! Fist said, grinning.
You did good. Sorry bout that. Just
Yeah I read your profile. I know what your feeling.
Turning around, they walked back and down the top path of the previous hallway.
As they walked down the corridor, they could hear a distinct human voice crying for help.
Fist broke into a sprint, following the voice. Wait! Roger called, running after him.
By the time Roger got there, Fist was standing on a pile of Rikiti bodies while helping a woman up off her feet.
Wow
I know right? That was crazy! Fist said excitedly, grinning.
As they rounded down the last corridor, they saw a huge amount of Rikiti guarding what looked like a desk full of documents. The Rikiti seemed to be conversing amongst themselves.
Oh yeah Fist Roger started Did that lady say anything?
Oh, right Fist replied the lady said that they were working on a new armor for the soldiers that would rival the Rikiti, but she didnt understand why the Rikiti would do that. I mean, their armor is better and they have tons of it, why would they have to steal ours? Oh, and she said there is a whole section of the lab that the Rikiti havent found yet because its hidden.
So that we wont level the playing field. But if the Council is developing it, why would the Rikiti care? Its strange they dont fight much. Theyre only fights are in Founders, but even thats not much Theres more to this then we think.
So you say was the simple answer from Fist.
Ok this will be a little tougher then the other groups, but thats alright. No strategy here, just run in and annihilate them.
Are you sure sir? This is about three times as big as the other groups we fought
Dont call me sir and yes Im sure. Now go! And with that Fist was off.
One after another the Rikiti were going down. Roger didnt even need to worry about Fist, he was doing so well.
Ducking and weaving, one of the Rikitis swords finally came in contact with Fist. Roger was quickly there to heal him, but no positive energy came out.
Oh no dang it! Im not getting any positive energy shoot. He raced back to the original hallway. Hopefully my negative energy output is still working As he focused his energy on retrieving the Fist.
Fist came in a flash of black and immediately Roger activated his back-up supply. Only enough for one, so make it work
For a moment, nothing happened. But suddenly Fist woke up, coughing and gasping for breath. Looking around, he saw Roger.
Fist, Im so sorry it was Roger stopped for a second and muttered something to himself. Why the hell would you do something like that? Dont you have any common sense?
But si- Roger strained Fist gasping for breath You told me
Its your fault! Now shut up, get up, and fight them Rikiti before they get away!
Looking confused, Fist got up slowly. Will your suit work?
Yes! It was just a technical difficulty. Now get in there!
Fist rushed in. He again felt the strong ness within him, but he realized it was because of the positive energy that rushed within him from Roger.
After a few minutes of fighting, finally the last Rikiti fell to Fists deadly kick. Roger walked to the cabinet the Rikiti were guarding and searched through it. There was nothing in there that they didnt already know, other then the specification to the new armor.
Get over here and dont get into anymore trouble
Yes si- Roger.
Good work! Butch said through his cigar. Didnt think youd get there in time personally. But anyway, this is troubling. I agree with you that there is something more to this than meets the eye. Something big.
Yeah. Anyway, so you have anything else?
Not today. Good job by the way Fist, I heard you kick some major Rikiti butt.
But Fist was quiet.
As they parted ways for home, Roger went to a park to watch the sunset. To passersby, he was like a statue, but in reality, his brain was teeming with the events of today. After the sun set, he headed to his apartment, again lost in though about the past -
((As this is my actual first real story, any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated))
Working hard at his office, the man didnt even notice as Roger entered. Waiting patiently in his chair, the man finally looked up, noticing Roger.
Ah youre here! Please take a seat. the man said cheerfully.
Roger looked around. I am in my seat. Youre a moron.
The cheerful expression from the man vanished. So you know what youre here for right? Your security level placement.
Hmm? Right, right. Anyway, so what about it? Dont all heroes start at level one? Its kind of stupid.
Some heroes have already had plenty of experience, although most heroes just start at level one. It all just depends. Lets see your record shall we?
Oh joy
After what seemed like eternity, the man finally looked up from reading the record. Well, from your record, it seems like you already have plenty of experience in handling that suit right there he motioned toward the suit and your body is like that of a twenty year old. Therefore, we will place you at level twenty-six, unusually high for a starting hero.
After the shock, Roger went back out of the office into another office down the hall. He was told that if he was over level twenty, he would need a sidekick.
Walking into the office and sitting in the chair with a thud, he coolly looked at the man writing down something in his notebook.
Ah yes, Roger Cunningham, AKA Silander. Now, we have plenty of sidekicks for you, but we have assigned one to you. His name is the Ricocheting Fist, apparently he just flies all over the place and bowls people over. Ah, here he is! as he motioned to the doorway.
Roger didnt turn around. He didnt care.
Hey there sir! said a pipsqueak voice from behind.
Roger quickly turned around. Oh .its a kid. Dont call me sir .your not my son.
Sorry si-guy
He is seventeen years old. Started the man. He apparently got his powers from a mutation from his two parents that gave birth to him but died in the Rikiti War.
Seventeen? Roger asked Thats way too young! He should be-
The minimum age is ten. And we dont send them off unless we know they will survive.
But fine. Ill be able to keep him alive anyway. Roger sighed.
Good. Now, go to Fred Sullen and hell fix you up. The man said, returning to his work.
As they walked down the hall to Fred, Fist couldnt stop jumping and running around. Finally Roger couldnt stand it.
Would you take some pills or something? Look, Im not-He stopped to check a panel in his arm in his suit nice or anything. Just stay still and well be fine.
Sorry
They finally got to the office of Fred Sullen, and stepped into his office. Fred Sullen?
Ah, the new recruits. Time for your first assignment -
Sitting on his couch in his own group's secret base, Roger looked around to see if their was anything to do. He moved his long black hair out of his eyes, even though it should be greying at his age of 52. He got up, his suit's metals clanking together, and limped over to the mission computer to tell everyone in the Hero's Regime they would have a free day off tommorrow. He felt that he needed some more negative energy in his suit.
Suddenly he was lifted up and thrown in front of a portal. "Hmph" He said to himself, "Wonder where I am" And stepped through the portal.
Immediatly he was transported to a clearing. He sat up and looked around. "I thought this would be interesting..."
Out of the forest came a huge black wolf. Without even flinching Roger held out his hand and sent a black stream out of his hand into the dog. Instantly the dog was on the ground, wimpering and lost in his own mind.
"That should hold him for a couple of hours. Well, I might as well wait here untill someone gets me. I can't fight on my own..." And with that he went in a tree and started to sleep... -
((I'll try to add to the story as much as possible, probably bi-daily))
As he sat there in the crowd of Crey employees as they talked, gossiped, and shared secrets about the world around him, Roger Cunningham felt out of place. As the only negatrologist in the company, and only one of two in the world, he had a right too.
He sat there, caught up in the past. Tonight, more then any other night, was supposed to be his crowning achievement. He was to be recognized by the Crey as the top scientist in the history of Crey Industry. He would be the only person get an early retirement out of the Crey with enormous benefits at the age of fifty-two, and he still cant shake off the past. He retired because of his wife.
The day came flooding back to him. It was like a part of his life that was taped was ripped and shown in his mind.
It was 5:00 a.m. on a Saturday when he awoke, breathing heavily and sweating profusely. He had just heard a loud explosion coming from the house. He quickly put on his robe and hurried downstairs, jumping the steps by twos and threes. His wife was soon after him.
They found their two sons, lying on the floor with soot covering their bodies. Roger, being a doctor at the local hospital, hurried over there to make sure they were alright. They slowly got up, dazed with a radiant glow resuscitating from their torsos. It suddenly felt extremely hot in the room.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonights convention! boomed a loud voice over the speakers, awaking Roger from his daydreaming. We are here tonight to celebrate one of the ones destined to be in the Hall of Fame in the Crey memory. I give you Mr. Cunningham!
Roger walk slowly, like he was in a dream. He almost was.
Are you ok? Roger almost yelled, feeling them over. What happened?
The boys were both twins, although not identical. Both were nineteen, although Will was five seconds older then the other brother, Thomas. Will spoke first.
Hey! Watch the hands! he exclaimed
Roger stood in amazement. What the hell happened? I am a doctor damn it! Im just trying to make sure your alright And what happened to calling me sir?
Will sunk his shoulders. Sorry sir. Anyway, me and my brother dont know what happened. We were downstairs for a snack when an explosion came from outside. We just remember seeing red and then just blacking out .but I think Thomas
Lost what? Roger asked, worried.
Will spoke softly, His voice
Roger got up to the stand and began his speech. He didnt know any of these people apart from professional work, nothing of their personal lives. Not that he cared. He didnt care about any of these people. He probably would have said something about it if his wife wasnt in the crowd.
He looked down at his wife, gave her a smile, and started his speech.
Thank you Robert. As many of you know, I am the worlds leading negatrologist, the study of the positive and negative energy in the air. I would drone on and on about how negatrology works, but we all have wives to get home too. He paused for a moment for the meek laughter to die down. Before I leave this company, I want to give to the company. First I will donate over one million dollars to the Rikiti Control Department branch of Crey Industries for reasons of my own. Random ooos and awwws came from the crowd. Secondly I am going to introduce a product that I have been working on for the past year in my spare time with the blessing of the Countess. It is a suit that can control the very positive and negative energies in the air. It has constant input of positive energy so it actually stops and even reverses aging. If I were to wear it for a full week without taking it off, I would be a full ten years younger, and it does have a stopping point! If your body is twenty years old, it will even out the positive energy input and output so you do not age. It also can concentrate positive energy in one place, effectively healing your and your allies wounds. It also has a negative energy output, neutralizing an enemy for capture while not killing him.
I will have the suit by tomorrow. I wish you all farewell, and keep up the good fight! As he walked down, a cascade of cheers came from the crowd again. But he didnt care. He was lost in his own mind again
He cant talk! Oh my Roger sat down on the couch, burying his head in his hands.
Yes sir sorry sir .would you like us to go to bed sir? Will asked, eyeing his brother who was sobbing.
Wait, how do you know this if you were unconscious when I got to you .
Sir
Just tell me
Will whispers, I can read minds
That day was the turning point in Rogers life. Two days later he found out that the neither world had a cosmic explosion that resuscitated into his house, catching Will and Thomas in it. He found this out by asking one of his dearest friends, Larry Tout, who was the only negatrologist at the time, about it and Larry scanned the house. He found it swarming with neutralized negative energy particles. Roger from then on dedicated his life to negatology, becoming Larrys assistant and apprentice.
Roger soon found out the extent of his sons powers. Will could read the minds and even control them, while Thomas developed flat, hard hands, like hammers. They soon became not outcasts, but heroes of the city. They went under the names of the Psilancer and the Grinder. That was five years ago.
He sat down in his chair; get all the congratulations from his co-workers. He looked up at the next speaker, barely listening while he went back in the past
A year later the Rikiti invasion started on Paragon City. Two days later Will came up to Roger
Dad sir?
Roger looked up from the newspaper he was reading. Yes?
Me and Thomas want to go to Paragon City to help out with the invasion. Will said softly.
Roger replied, Absolutely not! Youll die out there!
Not before we save one-thousand citizens! Children who
are not heroes are dying too!
You are not going!
Please dad please sir. Will said quietly.
Roger took a deep breath. Fine .alright. You boys are old enough to know what your going in to. Just promise me one thing.
What is it?
You wont let your confidence get to you. If your in trouble, you run.
.yes sir
Six months later, Roger received a letter
and that concludes our convention people! Thank you all for coming.
Susan, Rogers wife, leaned over and whispered, Im going to go ahead while you pack. I have a special surprise for you when we get home.
Roger smiled. Ok honey.
After he unpacked which was quite fast, he started to walk out. He remembered he wanted to test the new transportation system one last time in his suit, went back to put it one, and went out to the street. He again drifted into the past
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham,
I regret to inform you that your two sons, William and Thomas Cunningham, have been killed by a falling Rikiti aircraft. While I was not there to witness it, I have worked with your two sons before and I must say they are two of the bravest heroes in Paragon City.
Sincerely,
Statesman
P.S. I wish to speak to you about something regarding your sons if you ever come to Paragon City.
Roger and his wife did not come out of the house for six months. They cried and wept, but in the meantime Roger had increased his understanding of negatrology to the point where he even outdid his trainer, Larry.
Soon he resolved that he would go to Paragon City to make sure that no more children heroes would be killed needlessly. He sent his resume and a couple of inventions to Crey, where he was quickly accepted. He soon found out Larry was working with them too, but he was fired for selling information about the Longbow to Crey, where he was working for both organizations. Soon Roger became a prominent figure in Crey Industries.
For four years he made invention after invention, working tirelessly and only stopping when his wife begged him to. And until tonight, he was the highest paid scientist in the industry, making over ten millions dollars a year.
Coming out of his trance, he turned the corner and heard noise coming from an alley way. Listening closely, he could see some Rikiti and his wife
"Did you know your husband was involved in the Crey?" one of them asked.
"Yes..." said the wife
"Oh. Well then did he tell you that he donated over 1 million dollars to fight the Rikiti?" Asked the other
"Yes...."
"Oh, well he did. Maybe we should give him a lesson..."
"What..."
"You. Dead." As he said that, he pulled out a gun and shot her three times.
You Roger stammered. Not her not her thats it! Im done! Your done for! He ran into the alley and created an explosion of negative energy, trapping the Rikiti in their own minds.
He bent over and cried over the corpse of his wife. After a half an hour, he sent out a notice to the Heroes nearby and went to his apartment. For some reason, he went to sleep in record time.
The next day, he went to the Hero Registry and signed his name as Silander, a combination of his two sons names. He now was to become a hero of Paragon City -

"Jumpie jump jump" said a boy as he hopped through Atlas.
"Hey lookie that theres a coffee shop. I wonder if they allow 13-year-olds"
As he landed, he passed a hero that was enormous compared to him. He was only 4 foot tall.
He opened the door and he took off his sunglasses and hat and sat down in the chair.
"Sorry kid, we cant get you any acohol."
"Huh? I dont like acomalhol. I want some sugar please."
"Okay.......get right on it."
Suddenly, a group of Fifth Column crashed through the window and tried to ambush Pixie.
"QUICK GET MY SUGAR THAT I ASKED!"
'I'LL GET RIGHT ON IT!"
He rushed in the backroom and got a bag of sugar.
"HOW MUCH?"
"ALL OF IT!"
"Okay...."
He tossed the bag of sugar to Pixie.
"THANKS"
He took the bag of sugar and just shoved it down his throat. Than, as if the sugar caused his real super powers to unfold, he FSed them and blew them to smitherines.
"Sorry bout the mess."
"Er....ah...ok?"
