Hey doc, any chance you can give us rough numbers?
Like:
70% of complete sets can be obtained through beating stuff
10% of sets can only be completed with TF recipes
10% of sets can only be completed with story arcs recipes
10% of sets can only be completed with Trial recipes
This might shed some light on how much the high level characters are missing out. -
I'd also echo the concern of level 50s missing out on a key source of rewards. Maybe make the high levels provide more of a particular type of reward in order to promote trades with the ones they cannot access?
Example, 50s gan probably get a lot of AV rewards. They can use these for themselves, or trade them for the story arc ones they need. -

Doc, can we get a little clarification on "what parts" you are referring to that are only dropped by Story Arcs, Trials and Task Forces?
Are the "Parts of a set" each a different, exclusive part in the story arcs, trials and task/strike forces?

From what I understood, if a set is a 5 piece set, you can get something like enough recipes for 4 of those sets by beating stuff up, but the recipe fo the fifth piece might be harder.
This would allow people to collect pieces of the set rather easily (thus getting some of the bonuses), but completing the set much trickier.
Of course, if a set of five have recipe #4 only obtainable through story arcs, and recipe #5 only obtainable through TFs, then thing might get ugly. -
I feel kinda better. Thanks.
EDIT: Obligatory WOOT! First post after a Red Name!! -
Same thing here, Me a Ff/elec (20), Sk up to 30 to a tank against DE.
DE bosses just had it in for me. I play pretty aggresive defenders, so I decided to play it safe since, since so many bosses wanted my hide.
No good, the tank would go in, smash the boss, and the boss would come straight at me, even if I didnt put a shot in. Now, Taunt broken and everyting, the tank was doing more damage than me, I was doing zero.
Scariest and wierdest moment I've had in CoH in a while. -

thats almost two whole years.
How in heaven's name did you find this post? -
Do you want awesomeness or challenge? If you want the second, I'd say un min-max a bit. One tank and 7 fire blasters running on invincible could be interesting. A lot of defenders or trollers will make things easy.
Heck, one tank, 6 fire blasters and a TA/A on invincible sounds like my kind of fun. -
This would come in handy, right now the ones we seem to use the most are (1)Perez Park, since it connects to 4 zones, and (2)Striga.
(3)Boomtown, (4)Faultline, (5)Crey's Folly, and (6)Dark Astoria are there mostly for completion's sake. Dont think that many folks use it.
You'd think (7)Hollows would be a good telepad to have, but it drops you in the most horrible place ever for a Hollows player.
Hmm. Assuming they do open up telapads to all zones, and you can only afford 8 locations. Which would they be? In order ot relevance. -
I can see the physics being on the client side, but I'd think that has to more to do with debris, sparks from blasts, and cape flowing, etc.
PC, and NPC positioning are on the server side. So make it work under those rules, simulating physics rules.
For the direction the ball would take, keep it simple at first, dont let the ball fly, just let it roll.
Using vectors, where the position of the ball versus the position of the PC, to calculate its new direction. Example, if my /loc is [-1,-1,0], and the BRB is at [0,0,0], then it would go in the direction of [1,1,0].
Every BRB tick (say its every 0.25 second), all the vectors that have affected the ball (or the first five, really who's gonna notice?) are added up to determine its direction and speed.
Example, lets say the ball is at [0,0,0], I'm at [-1,-1,0], and a buddy is at [-1,1,0]. When I hit the ball, the directional vector is [1,1,0], and my buddy is [1,-1,0], so when you add those two directions up it will do [2,0,0], twice the distance.
The ball, of the NPC, will walk (just like other NPCs do) 2 units in that direction and stop.
The vectors might need to be converted into unit vectors (I think is the name), otherwise hitting from longer range will cause it to go farther. Something Unit Vectors wont.
The BRB's NPC's AI will work based on the vectors input it receives. And I'm pretty sure this kind of positional information is already used since we have so many knockback.
P.S. my math is rusty. -
I'm actually suprised they thought about it and considered implementing it.
Nice. -

<---- Now showing -
Nerf Force field and Energy Blasters!!!!
They knock the Big Red Ball too far away and I can't play with it.
Plus they are overbalanced. We played hero soccer versus a team full of them and we got owned big time. No fair, we were a team of scrappers and we didnt even get to touch the ball.
Nerf Them!!!!! -

what if it spawns with kids playing around it
[/ QUOTE ]
That should be on CoV only so you get to steal it from them. Whats more evil than stealing a ball from children? -

I might be the only "No" in this thread but I hope they never introduce something like this. I come to paragon for super heroics and maybe a bit of role play.
Chasing a ball? Ugh! No thanks.

Psst..
/macro heal "powexec_name Aid Self$$e Roar" Press it twice I think.
You can bypass the aid self tricorder animation and heal yourself as your roar. Any other emote works, personally, Im waiting for i7s backflip emote.
Not my discorvery, I learned it from the tank boards very recently. -

For everything listed for Issue 7 and everything mentioned as being planned for Issue 8 and beyond I've seen a ton of players respond with a simple, "Meh, whatever."
You people suddenly get excited over a big red ball?
[/ QUOTE ]
Man is a simple creature. A red ball catters to our most primitive, and infantile, instincts. That is where its glory stems from.
Plus, a simple red ball is a lot of content for something relatively easy to code. Especially if they include the whole SG bases getting them as well as finding them on the zones. -
Good start, a few things I think you should mention or expand on.
You might also want to add a few samples of teaming requests.
/tell <person>, I got a 30-32 team running some missions, interested in joining us?
or
/tell <person>, I got a 20-23 team here puting the hurt on the Family, care to join.
Also I'd reccomend talking about the flag settings 'Looking for Any', 'Looking for mission team', etc. Many people don't use them (either they don't know or dont care), but many recruiters do, and try to respect those with their setting on 'Not looking'. Likewise, many soloers expect people to pay attention to the setting and not blind invite them.
Usually when my team is really hurting for members, I look into those with their setting on 'not looking' and I acknowledge that I am aware that their flag is down. This is especially useful when trying to form a team for Task Forces and respec trials, which sometimes need a balanced team to work. It also helps if you send a question which reflects you actually read their search comment.
/tell <person>, I see you flag is on not looking for a team, but could I interest you into the 44+ respec trial?
Keep it up, we need more info on team making. -

And the Gamster gives badges to people who play with the Big Red Ball as well.
1000 hits to the ball = ??*
2000 hits = ??*
5000 hits = ??*
Heck make a SG badge to unlock it so you can put a ball on the base.SGs everywhere will me making a room soccer style for events.
*can't think of names. Feel free to contribute. -
This would be so much fun.
Soccer teams will be made and people will be screaming: "NERF Energy and Force Fields, they are beating us in CoH Soccer!!!" -
Poor Alty, always so much effort making avatars and they never get picked.
You should just stick to making a million of your own avatars. Less frustration that way. -
Hurricane was supposed to provide a melee free zone for squishies.
Herdicaning and mob positioning used to be Storm's claim for fame.
There goes that...
