Whoa, what's up with the Dev Digest? It looks a mess in there...
-
Wow! As a player for the past 3 years, this DEFINITELY needs a sticky for all these AE babies out there. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've had to explain "aggro" and "pulling" to some of them outside AE.
Outstanding job and kudos for taking the time to write it.
How about including THIS in the AE tutorial.... :P -
Niv,
I love the fact that you (as a redname) still have your holiday temporary powers in your tray.
I can't explain WHY that is funny to me. It just is.
-
The up/down cycle isn't quite accurate. Observe the "Updated:" info at the bottom of the screen. Some glitch is flashing back to Jun 24th when they were up.
-
After playing my SoA Crab Spider for a while, I find myself truly enjoying it's playstyle. Yet, for some reason, I am struggling with the placement of Omega Maneuver in my attack chain. Is it an alpha strike, or possibly more of a distraction to pull foes off you? It does great damage when it hits, and I enjoy the effects, but I'm searching for utility.
In the detailed info portion, the power lists an AOE damage range of 20, while the taunt lists an AOE range of 10. This, combined with the taunt's accuracy to be unenhanceable, seems to cripple an otherwise great power. Thoughts? -

3. What rewards are we giving to the players and creators?
1. Were granting full experience (XP) and influence rewards for defeating enemies in player made content. Were also giving players tickets in place of random drops. They can take these tickets to an Architect ticket vendor and redeem them for various in game rewards, such as enhancements, recipes and salvage. Were also allowing players to purchase unlockable content with their tickets. Theyll be able to get maps, costume pieces and different characters.

Different characters?!?!? -

Great question, with us in the process of moving to new software, development for this current software is not likely to occur.
RSS for the Dev & Community Digest would be a wonderful feature for us to have on our Official Message Board. We will make sure and send that request to our Web Development Team to include as a feature request.

Thanks Ex! That would be great.
But, since I enjoy asking for the impossible... what about an RSS link that would generate for each topic or thread on the boards? So you could subscribe to topics and posts that interest you?
*evilgrin* -
So Ex...
Any word on getting RSS feeds for the Developer and Community Digests? I've tried using Feed43 to set up an RSS for the board topics that interest me, but it's been a complete no-go so far.
Thoughts?
Edit: Managed to trim the URL down and make it work in Feed43, now it just a matter of setting a proper search pattern. But, I suddenly feel quite lazy. It sure would be nice if there was an official link on the boards for RSS subscriptions.... -

What if they start selling access to new zones? Selling access to new archetypes? Selling access to task force/trial rewards?

You mean, "What if they release a paid expansion box, just like all the other MMO's out there do?
Horrors!! Think of the children!! Oh Dear Lord... who will save the children???

Straight out selling influence/infamy/prestige for cash?

(1) The RMT spammers will go away because they won't be able to compete.
(2) The impatient kiddies and/or adults with more dollars than sense may buy some.
(3) The players who enjoy playing the game will still earn plenty of influence and use the upcoming merit system to get those expensive IO recipes without paying any RL dollars.
(4) NCSoft will make a little more money off of CoX, giving a better return on their investment.
(5) The additional profits will allow for more development of improvements to the game that benefit even those who don't shell out RL money for influence.
(6) Dogs and cats, living together... MASS HYSTERIA!!

Ok, I'll say it since no one else has called it yet...
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
On a side note, I was dueling against a friend of mine who was out of the loop on the booster pack. Thinking to catch him off guard, I hit the self-destruct when things started going badly. As he hit the ZOMG button about the countdown, fearing something bad was going down, I exploded and scuffed his boots with my charred remains. I was laughing at his reactions, while his was more of: "That's it? What was the point?" He didn't get the kill, but he didn't press his advantage either.
Honestly, this is just a "fun" power. I have WAAAAY more fun blowing up greys with this power than I ever foresee trying to strategically fire it off in combat. I'm with Arcanaville on her statement. If some dumb tanker fires this off in the middle of a scrap, drop 'em down the nearest smokestack.
Although... seeing 20 or so folks pop one during a Hami raid might be hella fun to watch... -

Yes, we're all impressed by your sarcasm, but I don't think it will be quite as funny when $15 a month just plain isn't enough to play any more.

Please Tony, must you be so melodramatic in every forum you visit?

Ain't this horse dead yet? I will at this point just have to respectfully agree to disagree with the doomsayers about these packs, and leave this horse to be whipped to death by others. From my point of view, these packs are restoring my interest in developing some long forgotten characters. And that justifies the Cyborg pack in my book. The Jetpack style doesn't work for my tastes, and most of my characters costume styles, to say nothing of not really being interested in a 30-day temp power. So I'll skip that one, but the rest of the packs have all been put to good use.
Great job, and keep up the good work devs. -

Maybe THAT'S the issue here! SG costume options aren't playing well together with the costume creator. Betcha a dollar that's it....
[/ QUOTE ]
That was definitely it. One of the SG colors is black. The aura was set to black, so it was just about impossible to see.
I consider this my n00b moment for the week.

You know, I distinctly remember when the initial announcement of the Best Buy/Target game cards was released... (helpful hint: the thread is STILL IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT DISCUSSION FORUM)... It went something like this:
Forum People: "Hey, those cards are pretty cool if they come with a jetpack for the extra $5. Is there any chance I could just pay the $5 difference and get the jetpack?"
Lighthouse: "You're serious? You'd pay the difference? It never occurred to us that you'd want to pay more for a temp power."
Forum People: "No really, gimme gimme gimme."
Lighthouse: "Ok... no promises, but I'll mention it to marketing."
And now the jetpack has become a reality and people are, in gratitude, offering to crucify Lighthouse and burn his kitten in a microwave. All for doing EXACTLY WHAT WE TOLD HIM TO DO.
People... you're never happy.
[/ QUOTE ]
I guarantee that when they finally DO release a jetpack costume option, there will be a ton of folks complaining about clipping issues and how it doesn't look good with butt length hair and butt capes. I do think some folks are happier thinking that BaBs, Castle, and Lighthouse have a personal vendetta against them....
Heh, they hate us ALL, taking no favorites. :P -
Soooo....
With the Cyborg pack being "Booster I" and the Jetpack being a "Minibooster".... I wonder how many more booster packs are about to appear before Christmas. Since this makes the 2nd wave of "boosters". Mayhaps "Booster II" is the Jetpack SUPER Booster? Hmmmm.... let the wild speculation begin. -

*bangs head on keyboard*
I figured it out. Frequently, when I switch between costumes, my super group color settings get changed on me. I just went in and checked, and sure enough, the color settings on the aura had been reset to my SG colors instead of the colors I picked at Icon.
*sigh*
Go back to your homes, nothing to see here. . .

[ QUOTE ]
Well, that's the other thing. I'm four years old in the game also, and I remember when we used to get all sorts of cool stuff like VEATs for free. Really! We got Kheldians for free, capes and auras for free, respecification trials, flypose emotes (among many, many others), at least three or four cool new costume pieces, the list goes on.
Yes, we still get some stuff for free, and thank goodness we do. But now, we're having to pay for a lot of the stuff that we also used to get for free, and that's even after they've rolled out in-game advertising to raise more money, the subscriber base is still quite large, and they're not having to split the take with Cryptic.
What are we getting for all of that extra money that we weren't getting before? I know I for one wish we could go back to the old days of not having to pay out the wazoo for everything, even if it means that we "only" get as much cool free stuff as we did back in the days when Arenas were free, the badge system was free, epic power pools were free, ...
[ QUOTE ]
I have no problem with paying for a "temp power" that frees up two powers (fly and hover). You may see it as a waste of money but I see it as adding two more damage dealing powers to my tanker.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you for exactly illustrating my point. I fully realize that there are probably some players who would delight in having the game turned into one in which in order to have the best characters, you have to pay the most money each month. I'm not one of them. This is exactly the kind of game that City of Heroes has rallied to not be in the past.
[/ QUOTE ]
Folks, was no one paying attention to ANYTHING Lighthouse said about this? The ONLY reason they offered this jetpack up on the store is that they got a ton of comments from people WANTING the one that was offered with the time cards. This is simply giving us what WE WANTED. This does NOT imply that there will never be a jetpack costume part. If you don't want to spend $4.99 to have a 30-day temp power at level 1, THEN DON'T. C'mon, it's only providing an ancillary benefit for about 14 levels (EARLY LEVELS!). I think I can stand the inconvenience. Sheesh. -

I can see my HUD pop up in the costume generator at Icon, and it's selected as part of my current costume, but when I leave Icon and enter combat, no HUD.
Anyone else seen any issues with it yet?
EDIT: At times, I can see very faintly where it *should* be (i.e. standing in the light, looking into the shadow of a tree, camera behind and slightly elevated), but it's nowhere near the light show it is in the costume generator.
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't had any problems with the HUD, but the targeting auras don't show up in the costume generator for me. The show up in-game, however. -

Is anyone else having trouble buying this thing? Me and my roommate use the same card and he bought his with no problem. There is more than enough money left and it keeps declining me, what gives?
[/ QUOTE ]
One use per day, per card. You have to use a different card to make another purchase. Ran into this problem a long time ago myself when I was running multiple accounts.
[/ QUOTE ]
is that not the same as our monthly subscription fee? Cause that also comes from the same card on the very same day each month and we've never had any problems.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pretty sure it's works in different manner when it's a monthly subscription. Lighthouse had a suggested link up there somewhere though. -

Please, please, PLEASE, make the Cyborg costume options for PANTS available in Monstrous. Pretty please? Also, is the mask supposed to be under Hats? Curious....
Edit: Ok, having looked over the Head options, NOW I understand why it's under the Hats option. It simply wouldn't work under Helmets or Full Helmets. I see, I see....
Edit (2): I meant to say PANTS not LEGS. I'm hoping that we can use them in combination with the existing Robotic options for legs. -

Will SGs be getting the nice little 50k (25k?) prestige per character that has happened a few times during these events also?

One more question... will the same event be run on test? -
