First round I had moved a lot underplayed toons to various servers so that I would have a 50 everywhere "just in case".
This round, moved almost everything back to the major three servers that I play on: Victory, Freedom, and Infinity. I did get talked into moving a few toons to Virtue which seemed reasonable. -
So there was a discussion yesterday on Victory Badges about what was the best way to buy IOs using merits. Reward merits (R-merits) compared to Alignment merits (A-Merits).
My suggestion to the person asking was to use tickets/merits to get most recipes and only use A-Merits for purples/pvp-Os that are ultra-ultra rare (the ones that there are 0 on the market).
A few other people spoke up stating that A-Merit farming was super fast and a viable way to farm recipes. They went on to state that they could run all 5 tip missions on a character in 30 minutes. Which would equate to a LoTG 7.5 after 4 days of farming, while only investing 2 hours to get the LoTG.
I was wondering what everyone else's experience has been with tip/morality missions. I know, I have not been able to run them at an average rate of 5 minutes. I have also seen people go 6 missions without getting a morality mission to drop.
The other way to look at A-Merits would be someone buying them 1 a day at: 20 Million fin and 50 R-merits a day. After two days they have spent 100 R-merits (1/2 of what a lotg would cost with R-merits) and have only spent 40 million inf. That actually would seem to be not too bad of a deal, 40million to cut the required R-merits in half.
So, I'm a little torn, I still think 'farming' A-merits for unique recipes may not be that effective but buying them maybe. What do you all think? -
I've been fortunate enough to be on three successful CoP runs. I'd would suggest a few things about that guide that was posted.
I would definitely use a voice chat program vs broadcasting in request at least for the 3 team leaders. There are a couple of reasons for this, first, the 'health' bars for the three obelisks can have a lot of lag. When it looks like there is 30% health left you may only really have 15% or less. I would suggest that if you are going to use a 2 cycle approach: damage round followed by a kill round, that you stop your teams at 40% rather then 30-20%.
Another reason to use voice chat is that broadcasting "shields down" "shields up" is going to get confusing, where as if you are on skype or vent you can just talk about what stage of the game you are at: "we just started our spawn" "Our shields just went up" "we have 3 targets left before the shield goes down". The team leaders can just set up macros to state "Stop attacking the obelisk" "Slow down killing the mob" "speed up killing the mob" .
As far as timing the obelisks it helps if all three teams start attack at the same times, so we have been gathering at the way point then when all three teams are ready attacking the mobs around the cubes.
Also, this trial seems to have a bug where if someone on the team enters before the team leader, there is a chance that the team will end up on a different instance of the Trial then the other teams. I am not sure why this is but I imagine it has to do with the fact that the team leaders all have to be in the same SG/VG and if someone enters from a different SG/VG it screws up the instance. We have been checking this by broadcasting "woe in" "despair in" "gloom in" and making sure all three teams are on the same map.
Temps are nice, but team control is as important. When you fight the 3 cubes and AV, it is pretty important for people to realize when the AV's shield goes back up and which spawn they are suppose run too. If people just sit at the av hacking at it the mobs around the cubes will start to drift towards the AV and spreading out, which makes quick clearing the cubes a little more difficult. -

Do you really need prescribed teams this much? Seems a bit annoying if you need to have that many spots for colds and rads only.
This a fairly new (and yet old) aspect of the game. Until people have gotten a few runs under their belts it probably was necessary to be so stringent with team selection. I've been following some of the chatter on other servers about this and most of the raids that weren't successful were most likely due to poor team selection and lack of coordination between the teams.
I would imagine as this get run more and people become more familiar with it, team makeup will be less and less of an issue.
The reason we decided on so many debuffer spots is you have such a small window of time to take down the AV. It just seemed to us that the longer a trial/raid lasted the greater the chance for failure was due to people running out of temp powers/insp/temp buffs, people losing focus, and people getting frustrated and quitting. -

Both times we did manage to get the Aspect's shield down, he was up to full health by the next time also.
I also hear that doing it Redside is ridiculously easy. Scourge is the key I guess.
This is what we have been running for teams:
1) Well built tank- High HP and Psi resist/def is good for this. So we have been trying to get WP, stone with minerals, I've also seen invulns do well on this.
2) Buffers- Colds are good for this because they offer both buffs and debuffs. FFs are good because they offer a visual reference for the team (stay in the bubble!) for healing auras.
1) 'Healer'- Emps and therms- Emps are good for group aura buffs and Therms offer shields and debuffs so both are good.
2) Damage- We have been trying to focus on scrappers just because they usually have mez protection so the 'healer' can just focus on passing out heals/buffs/ and cm types of powers to the people who need them.
This leaves two spots open per team: which we have usually tried to get a mix of Rads, hopefully 1 dark (for group rez), sonics, and spots open for just anything.
I would think that redside may have an easier time because:
Brutes are filling the tank role (but bringing a little more damage), the scrapper roles (maybe bringing a little more survivability and damage since the fightin is almost non-stop).
Corrs are filling the buff/debuff/heal/blaster roles.
As far as the AV, I think someone else said it but it looks like his shield is on the same type of timer as the Obelisks, so once the cubes are cleared (I think the timer starts after all the cubes are cleared not the 1st one, but I may be wrong), his shield goes down and the timer starts.
I think one of the keys to defeating him is -regen debuffs. So stacking things like benumb or Lingering radiation (non-toggle) may help to keep him from compeletely regen-ing when he is in his bubble.
The strategy we use for the indoor map is:
All three teams gather at the door, we use all aura types of buffs then split and attack the 3 cubes. The team that was performing the best outside on the obelisks (or if a team has 2 tanks) gets the cube with the AV. Once the cubes are clear gather around the AV (we usually drop pets/nukes) and attack him. Once his shield goes up (we usually only get him to 30-60% the 1st go around) split back up clear cubes and go back to finish him off. -

One other interesting note: The CoP trial appears to still follow the rules of Base Raids. If you start one you can not quit it (we had to switch sg bases on the restart) and you may not join another raid (CoP trial) until the timer on the initial Raid is over.
Honestly, people think this is an easy trial, it is not. The two speed(ish) runs that were done were run by some really good players who have spent a lot of time and effort in prepping for this to make sure each team had buffs/debuffs/heals/tanks/damage.
I think it is like anything else in this game:
A)You can have a well built team crush a Masters of XXXX tf/sf, and it may actually seem almost boring or inane to those on the team.
B)You can have a non min/maxed team struggle (or not) through the same tf/sf.
I just would not judge the CoP trial by the people who have run it in a speedy fashion, as I do not think that will not be the norm. I also would hesitate to suggest that just because a team has temps (Heavies/nukes/shivans) that they are going to auto-win the trial. -

Back in my day we ran things because they were fun not because we were going to get rewarded for it! I mean pre-IOs didn't you ever play a level 50, you weren't getting xp, influence at that point was a joke, I guess people may have played for prestige but for the most part it was for the fun.
CoP is challenging I think that the runs I did on my Emp were the most fun I've had on him in years.
I would run this just for the fun of it. Then again, I sometimes pvp and there is 0.000000001% incentive to do that.
