I'd like for us to get to about 56 sign ups prior to the start date of April 15th.
Also I'd like to thank Trez, Rice, Punki and r0x for offering to help with this event. -
We are actually asking you not to roll anything till we start, we will be demostrating the various roles in PvP: Healing; Damage; Distruption; and Debuff. Then asking new players to PvP to sign up what they would like to play (we will be 'limiting' their choices to ATs and Powersets that work well in team PvP to allow them the best opportunity to learn and play something effective in this setting).
As far as leveling- There will be various mimimal threat levels to achieve for the first 6 weeks and we will be offering acclerated experience obtainment teams for players to get to these target levels.
The vent thing is kind of mandatory- most communication on team based PvP happens way to fast to type. If you have a strong objection to 'talking' on vent you can use preset macros to do most of your talking however, it would be necessary to still listen in to hear who the target is and such.
The purpose of this event is to allow the casual player or someone who doesn't want to invest 10's of billions into a build just to try PvP. PvP does have a steep learning curve and that is what we are here for, to teach this aspect of the game at a minimal time investment and resource investment to the players. -
3D should be commended for his efforts and willingness to run these raids for everyone. I can't think of time we have had a bad raid and a lot of people have gotten a lot shards/merits off these.
Thanks for running these buddy. -
Someone saying PvP is MIA on infinity makes me sad. While Victory is where I started and will always be my 'home' server. I moved to Infinity to learn PvP and met some really great players and learned a lot (dUmb FTW).
However... saying Infinity would wreck any server, shows you forgot that the best of the best came from Victory. -
If my count is correct we are at 29 people signed up. We are shooting for 48 so we can do 4 teams of 12.
I appreicate everyone who has been busy promoting and recruiting for this event. You rock. -
Quote:This is a great idea! Xfer all your characters over here and build PvP up! It will be great to bump our population a bit!
ohhh this isn't an event on Protector?
Please do it! Join us! We're friendly!
-Kult
Honestly, I'd be glad to pass along information and the outline for the event that we use for PvP Boot Camp to anyone who wanted to run it on Protector.
Anything that helps to spark interest in team pvp is well worth the effort. -
Do you mean Victory? Let me know if there is anything we can do to help you if you do want to get something set up on Triumph. We have some screen shots and such that might be useful to you.
-
Rice, Trez, Punki you guys are always welcome to help teach, but this event is really geared towards players new to pvp so you would not be eligible to participate.
We were looking for 4 'ringer' emps and: Kara; Philly; Pixel and Smallz filled those spots.
So I'd really love to have you help teaching workshops and such, if you guys want to help with Boot Camp. -
I'd like to ask Pixel and Kara to join our Scouting/Balancing Committee. We will be meeting this Friday at 9pm est to talk about the role of this committee in Boot Camp2 so if you both could come on Philly's Vent (I will PM you the info) that would be great.
In addition, I'd like to meet with the Rules and Idea/Check Off Committees one more time before we get this rolling. -
Quote:Question about leveling. Are we on our own to meet the weekly level requriments? I've just never paid that much attention to how fast toons level. Those may be easily attainable or the may not. I'm a pretty much Friday, Saturday, Sunday player and I do have a life out side of the game so even on the weekend I don't want to burn a day playing (although I have) City of Heroes.
I'm sure it kind of got lost in that Wall O' Text I posted but
Quote:· We will be gaining xp/levels at an accelerated rate so participants must be willing to either participate in the accelerated xp gaining teams or be able to keep up with the current team level on their own.
-
I can help you with accelerated xp obtainment.
-
I guess there was some confusion about the first meeting and what level participants needed to be. Vet PvPers (this includes Boot Camp1 returnees) should come to the meeting on a PvP ready character at level 50 (note: for the kickball event, anything goes as far as purples/pvpios and such). Participants new to Team PvP should come on any character- Participants from other servers should create a throw away character, peacebringers are nice for the fly at level 1. They will not be actively PvPing just listening to the instructors and watching demonstrations for the first meeting.
Here is a an Outline of Boot Camp Season 2, this may change if we find that we can not reach the target goals in time. Any changes to this schedule will be voted on by the Ideas/Check off committee.
Week 1 April 15th
Introduction to PvP
Ventrilo meeting, at which the rules, and format of PvP Boot Camp 2 will be outlined. Short Q&A session to follow.
Following this discussion Boot Camp returnees and Vet PvPers will start a kickball event. While Players new to PvP will have an additional Ventrilo meeting in which different roles on a PvP team will be discussed.
Goals to complete prior to next meeting: All participants should pick their choices for characters they will use in Boot Camp2. Players new to PvP will select one character from a specific list of builds set by the Ideas/Checkoff committee. These characters should be leveled to a minimum level of 25 by the next meeting.
Week 2: April 22nd
No Boot Camp- Easter break.
Week 3: April 29th
PvP Survival Workshop
Participants new to PvP will have a workshop on PvP survival skills. Evasion routes on the various arena maps will be discussed. Inspiration usage, and arena temp powers will be discussed and powers such as phase shift, PFF and hibernate will also be talked about.
Vets/Boot Camp Returnees will set up and run a kickball event (any player who wishes to attend the workshop on survival may do so).
Goals to complete prior to next meeting: Level boot camp characters to a minimum level of 35 by next meeting.
Week 4: May 6th
Locking and Spiking Workshop
Players new to PvP will have a workshop on offensive play- setting up the UI for PvP will be discussed as well as what is meant by locking and spiking. A demonstration of target calling and spiking will occur. A brief review of survival skills will be talked about.
Vets/Boot Camp Returnees will set up and run a kickball event (any player who wishes to attend the workshop may do so).
Goals to complete prior to next meeting: Level boot camp characters to minimum level of 40.
Week5: May 13th
Evaluation
Players new to PvP will run a mid-level kickball event under the leadership and guidance of Vet PvPers/Scouting Committee/Check off Committee. The new PvPers will evaluated to see if specific players need further attention on the following : evasion, inspiration usage, locking, spiking and communication. In addition, the players will be scouted as far as their general skill level on movement and PvP status to aid in creating fair and balanced teams.
Goals to reach prior to meeting: Level characters to 45. Meeting with team captains and balancing committee to start forming teams.
Week 6: May 20th
Evaluation II
All participants in Boot Camp2 will participate in a kickball event set to Heavy Weight. The vet PvPers will interact with the new PvPers and again players needing further attention and 1:1 mentoring will be noted. Players will again be scouted to help make teams fair and balanced.
Goals prior to next meeting: Level all characters to 50. Create teams.
Week 7: May 27th
No Boot Camp- Memorial Day break.
Week 8: June 3rd
Ventrilo meeting at which teams will be announced, rules will be outlined again. Teams will then break up and have team meetings .
1-2 practice matches may be run if time allows.
Goals prior to next meeting: Finish leveling all characters to 50, and assist players with accolades.
Week 9: June 17th
1st official matches
Goals prior to next meeting: none.
Week 10: June 24th
Workshops
Players will be assigned to either group workshops or 1:1 workshops at the discression of the Ideas/Check off committee. The workshops will include:
Blaster workshop
Healer workshop
Stalker workshop
Dominator workshop
Grav/ta workshop
Rad workshop
Tauntbot workshop
Some players maybe mentored 1:1 for the following: Evasion, locking, spiking, movement, communication and inspiration usage.
Week 11: July 1st

Week 12: July 8th
2nd official matches

Week 14: July 22nd
4th official matches
Week 15: July 29th
5th official matches
Week 16: August 5th
6th official matches
I hope this clears up any confusion. -

Quote:So there was a discussion yesterday on Victory Badges about what was the best way to buy IOs using merits. Reward merits (R-merits) compared to Alignment merits (A-Merits).
My suggestion to the person asking was to use tickets/merits to get most recipes and only use A-Merits for purples/pvp-Os that are ultra-ultra rare (the ones that there are 0 on the market).
A few other people spoke up stating that A-Merit farming was super fast and a viable way to farm recipes. They went on to state that they could run all 5 tip missions on a character in 30 minutes. Which would equate to a LoTG 7.5 after 4 days of farming, while only investing 2 hours to get the LoTG.
I was wondering what everyone else's experience has been with tip/morality missions. I know, I have not been able to run them at an average rate of 5 minutes. I have also seen people go 6 missions without getting a morality mission to drop.
The other way to look at A-Merits would be someone buying them 1 a day at: 20 Million fin and 50 R-merits a day. After two days they have spent 100 R-merits (1/2 of what a lotg would cost with R-merits) and have only spent 40 million inf. That actually would seem to be not too bad of a deal, 40million to cut the required R-merits in half.
So, I'm a little torn, I still think 'farming' A-merits for unique recipes may not be that effective but buying them maybe. What do you all think?
So its been 7 months, and what are people's experiences now? I know there are still people who farm their 5 tip missions EVERY day. I however have not been.
Prices of LotGs have fallen to about 150 (crafted) and while there are other recipes with a great profit margin (75million per A merit) I think the prices on those are falling as well.
I don't have the exact cost or the most recent WW/BM values infront of me but lets compare people farming LoTGs and those farming for the +3% def. 30 reward merits for a +3% def (I think its 30 anyway) and selling it off market for 2.5-4 billion (lets say 3billion). The LotG farmer get 15 LotG 7.5's and sells them for 150million each crafted- 2.25billion (minus crafting costs).
So what are you guys doing? As for me, I am just buying things I need for my builds like LotGs/Numinas/Miracles and using other methods for farming up inf. I do have 3 characters who are just saving up A-merits I think they are up to mid 20's at the moment and I'm not sure what I will do with them long term. -
Fista, I'm really glad you posted this because I was just having this discussion with the PvP Boot Camp people about the affordability of purple sets.
The truth is there is no secret way to get purples or to farm inf to buy them outright. The advice that people have offered is solid and time tested.
I am certainly do not have the deepest pockets in the game nor on Victory but I use a few strategies, which has allowed me to keep bins full of purples since they were introduced.
1st- never sell purples. It doesn't matter to me if its a sleep, a confuse or even that stun proc that doesn't work. I don't sell them, I craft them and put them away for a rainy day. Purple prices have been going up since day one. Remember we used to be able to pick up the range/melee purples for about 20mill a pop. I think the price has been stable for about a year now but its not worth it to sell something and then a year later have it worth 10 times what you sold it for and THEN you realize you needed it.
2nd- Craft, craft craft. I used to take one day a week and craft all the non-crap recipes on all my characters and if they were something I could use (Posi, Decimation, Crushing Impacts, Numina, etc ) I'd put them away in bins, anything that I don't use often (touch of death, reactive armor, red fortunes) I would sell. People who play City of Marketeers will tell you to find a 'niche' a recipe that you can buy cheap, craft and sell for a nice profit. I haven't done this because I really hate spending time at the market, but it is a time tested and effective method of making billions of inf in a week.
3rd- Multitask. I typically only play 50's on level 50 content. By doing so I am maximizing my inf gain (which these days is not really a lot) but also for ever lvl 47+ NPC defeated there is a chance at a purple drop. So I am playing and "farming" for purples at the same time.
4th- tickets/merits/A-Merits- These are all very useful for gaining the inf you need to purchase purples. Tickets are easily obtainable and most people will tell you the money is in low level bronze rolls. At this point, tickets are so plentiful I usually just do mid-range gold roles. Merits- for me I always try to convert them to A-merits, but if you only play Rogue or Vigilante then random rolling merits can net you a nice profit. I know people will tell you to go with the sure thing (buying LoTGs, low level stealth IOs, or Kin Combats) but in the long run random rolling (and crafting!) will get you more inf. A-Merits are the same thing, some people are farming the heck out of these and buying these lvl 10 +3%def PvP IOs then selling them off market for anywhere between 2.5-4 billion. This is an ok strategy but I've always said this market is non-sustainable, the people who really want these and have deep pockets are getting them and then the demand for these will dry up and combine that with the increased supply as more people go for the quick bucks and the prices of these will fall back to 2 billion.
Lastly, be smart about your reward choices. Do you really need that 8th incarnate infused nictus fragment or would the merits be a better choice. 4 shards over a chance at a hami? -
The rules committee met last week to discuss the proposed rules for Boot Camp2. I just PM'd a draft of the final rules to Flux, Vanum, Justaris and War-Nugget.
The next group I'd like to meet with is the Event Ideas/Checkoff group:
This group includes:
FMP
Smallzies
Bambi
Yoshi
Linarra
Myself
If possible I'd like to meet this Friday at the normal Bootcamp time 9pm est. The meeting will not be long. I believe all of you recieved a copy of the layout I proposed if not I am PMing it to everyone on this group again. Once the layout and rules are approved by these two committees we will post signups and start getting people ready for Boot Camp2. -
Was fun teaming with everyone, see you guys around.
-
Remember send all rule ideas/concerns to Vanum, Flux, War-Nugget, Justaris or myself by Friday. We will be hammering out the rules for Boot Camp2.
Hello Terror, no sorry, no WS's in Boot Camp. -
I'd like to welcome Kara to the group as one of newest mentors for Boot Camp2!
-
Congrats to team P3 for winning PvP Boot Camp season 1.
I've said it many times but I will say it again, all of you who participated in Boot Camp really impressed me with how you embraced PvP.
I want to thank Philly and Smallz for being a huge help with this event. You both are awesome emps and we couldn't have done this without you two. I'd like to thank Bug, Chop, and Seers for stepping up and helping to fill in as needed.
MP and Ele did amazing jobs as team captains and I know it put a lot of stress on both of them but they held it together and did a great job of leading their teams.
Remember to get any rule suggestions to Flux, Justaris, War-Nugget, Vanum or myself by next Friday for the rules meeting. -
The overall winners of this event will recieve a costume code, thanks for Avatea and Paragon Studios for obtaining the prizes for our event.
In addition, everyone who particpates this week will also get a in game gold title for their PvP U character. -
