I am *this* >< *close* to making a firetank build centred on 6 slotted Phoenix.
Has anyone ever made a Phoenix centred character?
There's nothing I like to do more in the morning than to wake up and kill everything within a large radius.
Yes, debt means nothing to me. -
Hmm. I'm reading this and nobody's mentioned "The Red Star" yet.
Methinx should be poked if you want to see how to portay Russian Heroes in a good light.

My fire/ice-ling is still learning the art of team aggro, but this strategy so far seems to be working.
1) Deathwish
If the bunch is big enough to kill you, icepatch a corner first then taunt and duck into cover. Wait for them to bunch up and your second patch to recharge (I'm hastened) then jump into the crowd and patch them.
2) Headless Chicken
If they aren't a real threat to *you* just run around clocking them with your fists, standing by rangers long enough for them to switch to melee mode and follow you on foot. When you have a decent bunch, icepatch them, maybe burn them if your team needs the damage output, and then ignore them - go collect another bunch with your fists while the last lot are flapping. You can taunt them all together later if they still live when the patch expires.
3) Taunt anything NOT near you. Preferably stuff the team is attacking. Still working on how you spot the best taunt targets.
4) I do not rely on fire aura effects as I cannot quantify them. They definately work, but I won't factor them into any plan. 6 Slotted for 3dam/2acc/end. Probly buy and use taunts instead of damage for extended team runs, then drop them out later. Inf is cheap now (was cheap)
5) The Benny-Hill Maneuver
Had to invent this when most of an 8 man team disappeared on us when facing the certain death of a packed boss room of a cave system. The other 2/3 team members ducked down a side tunnel and stayed *very* still while I taunted the first cluster and ran for my life. The cluster strung out, ran past the side tunnel and the controller locked down the tail end as it streamed past. I was able to delay the rest long enough for the others to kill the first few and recharge lockdown on the first returners, with me taunting and splitting the other returns further.
Things I have to learn :
How to spot a blasters big AoE on sight and panic taunt the area to prevent his faceplant.
How to lower battlelag, especially in tunnels where you don't know where the hell you are from one frame to the next. I smell a macro.
To stop getting cocky when tanking on a purple mashing team. Things can go pear shaped *oh* so quickly...
To learn how to politely stop knockback players rescuing defenceless enemies from your icepatches, then faceplanting as they get up and thank him. -
Went to build my first base.
"You have no base"
er... *looks in help*
"You need CoV!!!"
er.. I've got it...
Ask Atlas City..
"yeah, you buy your base at the SG registrar. It doesn't tell you that bit."
And *shazzam*! One base (and half an hour of muttering at the GUI)
Wouldn't be suprised if this is what bit you. -

Take aggro, get bashed, die for your team if it's needed.
I mean, when you make a tanker you must think you'll be the one AT that will collect the most debt, the one that will always be the last to leave the battle field, the one that will always have the most work, and if you do your job right the praises you get will make you forget any debt you might have acquired.
Sorry if it sounded like a rant, wasn't intended.

Not at all. My fire tankling is my first ever character, and on reading the forums, I factored death *into* her game strategyTwo hastened heals, and hastened selfres, with the debt used to pack more missions into a level, and filling my contacts out evenly allowing me to generate missions for a team.
My little tankling *refuses* to die, viciously fighting tooth and nail, and when killed *refuses* to stay dead. I love her dearly
If I had the slots free, I'd be slotting Phoenix for disorient!!! -
All this talk of slotting auras for taunt.. does anybody know what the effects are anyway? What's the ratio of taunted time vs. untaunted time by default?
Assuming Burning Aura and autohit here, can 100% taunt time be achieved via any slotting?
Otherwise, I think I'll stick to pure damage, and just buy and slot 3 taunts if going in with a large team. Can't see the point in doing otherwise without numbers.
While I'm thinking about it... does Ice Patch aggro? -

Would Ice patch not do it for a /Ice tanker.
They can't AS you if they're falling on their [censored].

Ice patch neutralises AS completely as far as I saw. The stalkers trying to wail on me were utterly immune to double icepatch knockback in a way I'm not familiar with, but even the act of ignoring the icepatch interrupts AS.
The stalkers eventually gave up trying to kill me without AS.
On the other hand there was absolutely no way I could have killed them. So I ignored them beating on me and killed Arachnos, which made a much more satisfying dent in their pride -

Tanker damage cap is 400% (+300% of normal) as far as I know. Don't think there is an accuracy cap, but you can never get better than 95% to hit, whatever your accuracy is.

Perfect! Just what I was looking for. Thanks
Build-up/Fiery Embraced fireballs for the win!!
Is this written down anywhere or is it only cached in the minds of forum readers? -
Does anyone have the figures on the buffs of Fiery Embrace and Buildup re Dam/Acc and what the cap on Tank Dam/Acc buffing is?
The forum player guides don't have this info as far as I can tell.
(Include standard incredulous rant about choosing powers in the dark, including the prohibitive cost of trial and error, here) -
Does anyone actually know if flurry has a greater Gauntlet effect than a normal punch? It is 8 punches after all, and Gauntlet was said to be per punch.

Hrm - can sumone tell me if Phatasm/PA fly or walk?
Just planning my first Controller...
