  1. Nicely done, Union! I'm really digging it!
  2. That's really good stuff so far, Spino!
  3. Time to get the ball rolling again!

For the sake of my sincere abhorrence of grave-digging, I'm not going to go back in the thread and try and track down folks who are currently interested in a logotype.

If you would like to request one, please let me know.

You can see my work at my deviantARt page: http://theimperial.deviantart.com/

    Here's some (relatively) recent work:

  4. Marcio is an artist I stumbled upon thanks to the wonders of deviantART (Check out his profile here). I have become memorized with Marcio's almost-pastel, cartoony style. It's got a quirkiness all its own, and I am grateful to have had him take a crack at the Old Man.

I got my completed piece delivered to my inbox tonight and this is all I can say:

    omg.

Check out his deviantART posting of the work.

I hope you enjoy it almost as much as I do!
  5. Gotta say that's my favorite piece he has done so far.

Go get some Gollum art, people! Hand crafted with love & beef from the heartland of Argentina!
  6. Just a friendly FYI, any additional material you can provide about your particular character in the form of Crey Reports (preferably), clear screenshots of their costume, or anything else that will help me get a handle on the character is greatly appreciated.
  7. It's about time I get back to work on some sweet logos.

Look for some in the near future.

    Tarot Cards

Dang, how in the world did I miss this thread??

Anyway, back in the dizz-ay, some of the COH Guru community - actually just one, person if I remember correctly - started work on a Tarot deck.

It was really interesting to see how certain characters got placed where and for what various reasons.

  9. Muuust.. remain.. muffled.. about.. giganto poster's total level of mind-blowing awesomeness...
  10. The pumpkin monsters (I forget their *real* names) who are on their knees in horror are cracking me up. Great job Graver!
  11. Yes, oh yes - this blows my mind.

Like I said in the email - you've absolutely been able to capture a large chunk of the essence of The Imperial's story and concept in this piece. Well, well done, Graver.
  12. Ok, here's some work for that "Golden Age Goofball" Mr. Awesome!

This time, I went with a slightly different route and created a singular, very iconic logomark for the hero. You see this and there can be very little doubt of whose it is.

OK here she is, and it was a great learning experience to take something like this to completion. I had never fully inked or colored something in ps like this before. I hope it converted for the web ok, I was having some issues with how my screen contrast reads on my machine with ps and other computers when I posted initial colors a few days ago, so hope this looks ok.

    Without further chitchat!!!!

Looks great! I really like the bright, clean style you've got going on in this piece.
  15. Black, yellow, and green - gotcha.

Here is the Teen Squadron logo. I hope you like.

I went with an abstract notion of a squadron for the icon, then graffiti'ed it up and added some texture to bring in the youthful / teen aspect of the group.

If you like it and would like to use it, let me know and I can get it changed up to fit your size needs for a message board and the like.

Give me some colors to work with.

That is all. I've got a few ideas in the pipe that may very well get done tonight.

I guess I should have asked what powers you have, so excuse the artistic license with the depiction... Had a lot of fun doing this one, used a Gwen Stefani pose for inspiration, and it just flowed from there.

    Hope you like it Starchasm.

This piece radiates with emotions, and urges me to put pen to paper to capture the thousand words your art has inspired. This is a lovely piece and with each one you create, you seem to improve upon the last.

Imperial, if you haven't done already, you should...no, you need to share the back story of this character. There are many questions that beg answering.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the kind works, Monkey; I really appreciate it. There's been a lot of time, effort, and care put into The Imperial. He's really taken on a life of his own in the couple of years he's been around since the Golden Age of pre-beta.

Here is his character brief that I initially sent to Graver. More info, of course, can be found in his Crey Report.

"Alastair Victor Cromwell was born in 1909 to a fantastically wealthy and notoriously reclusive Old Money family. Trained in the mystic arts from near birth by his relatives, he broke ranks from the Cromwells’ self-serving ways after being confronted with the literary legacy of King Arthur and inspired to action by the self-sacrifice of a down-on-his-luck stranger who sacrificed his life to save Alistair’s.

"Now nearly a century since his birth, The Imperial continues to stand as a beacon of personal virtue and might across the world. His years in the limelight have afforded him a certain platform to speak on global issues, although his celebrity status is something he approaches with unabashed reluctance. Decades as a public figure, and more than fifty years since his wife’s untimely death (and some speculate murder) have left the “Old Man” yearning for a simpler life free from the trappings of his hard-earned station.

"Prone to melancholic mood swings that he keeps carefully hidden from all but his most intimate friends, Alastair often wishes for the peaceful death of old age. To release his mystic hold on the potent Pearl of Gilgamesh and slip quietly into the night - to once again be reunited with his beloved Eleanor - would be all too easy.

"But it is at times like those when the needs of the innocent stir courage again in his heart and the voice of his departed wife rings in his ear, causing him to rise once again to mete out justice with the potent Sceptre of Kings as the Grandfather of Justice, Paragon City’s Shining Light: The Imperial!"
  20. When it comes to putting together costumes for characters - I usually try to draw from some key elements of my creation.

For example, with my main The Imperial, I wanted to make sure his costume reflected the noble bearing he carries. Therefore the burgundry and gold work well to that end. Also, I find that simpler costumes often are more effective & iconic, which lead to his costume choices.

So basically, take some core elements of your characters, and build a look around them.

Hope my rambling makes some sense.
  21. Well let's hear it for colored pencils, eh?

Looks absolutely great so far - looking forward to the completed piece!
