Quote:There's no disputing that. However, the only real reason to ban alpha slot at this point is to appease Premium/F2P players. As I said in my above post, my main concern is the VIP players who will participate, especially the ones who are already committed. It will be a nice bonus if vets come back for it under premium accounts, but as it stands my main concern is not them, it's the people who are already committed with VIP accounts.Alpha slot is not game breaking, no, but it is a big advantage. End redux and +20% range on a blaster? Or 33% additional damage enhancement that partially ignores ED. That is a pretty big deal.
I do agree that the other incarnates are a much bigger deal, however. This gives more reason to ban them, obviously.
And on the topic of no access to IOs, a lot of vets do have toons IOd already, but they won't be able to safely respec. And that is a huge barrier stopping free players from joining. -
Quote:I don't think Alpha slot will be a huge game changer. The other incarnates, with the "PvP is pay to win" idea in mind, will obviously put premium players at a huge disadvantage. Alpha slot will give people with t3/t4 alpha a slight edge, but it won't break the game like the others will. There is something else that needs to be added to this discussion. All incarnates (Alpha slot included) will be VIP ONLY. This means that if any incarnates are allowed, free players or premium players will be at a serious disadvantage. Basically, PvP is pay-to-win with i21.
Unless there is an Arena option to disable incarnates coming with i21, I do not see a way to have free/premium players participate in balanced PvP for this league. Even if you ban Alpha slot, unless you are level shifted you can't tell if someone has it equipped.
Also there are a lot of people who build their toons with alpha slot in mind. We also have to consider the people who are going to be VIPs during this league, as they are going to be more integral to it's success than the premium people who come back for it. -
Quote:Oh okay.This is not a trial account.
The issue not not only that they are a pain to grind out on multiple toons, but also that they are yet another group of powers that are not even close to balanced to PvP.
I agree they are broken, but in theory if they were more available to us lazy people, the better team would still win with them. I still think alpha only is the way to go, however. -
Quote:I like how you took the time to read the EULA so you can prove people wrong on the foums. It's a fair point, and I only 'shoot down' people that are already making perfect fools of themselves
However, that said, the EULA does actually mean that, no, they don't have to. Going on the written agreement, we're lucky they are actually giving us as much warning as humanly possible with this sort of thing; they are under no obligation (i.e. can bring servers and services down without warning)
The Devs and support team are only human. I'm sure they don't do this just to sp-
Ok, correction; I'm sure all of them except Black Pebble and Doc Aeon don't do this to spite us. Villains and all that -

This is a stupid idea considering the servers are already crashing every other day.

Quote:Cool wall of text. You see here, this, THIS is exactly what I'm talking about. You don't know me, how long I've played CoH/V, what my background is...
Heck, you don't even know my physical characteristics to afford you the pleasure of figuring out if insulting me is a wise decision or simply a sad and pathetic attempt to brandish your E-member immediately prior to it be removed from your ethereal person.
So, some folks will sit there, gingerly wiping their cheetos-stained fingers on the moist lemon-scented cleansing square before touching their only link to the outside world; where they feel akin to gods, heroes, warriors bold... They rant and rave about nothing and everything, secure in the knowledge that the technology has not yet been made that may threaten them in their little village of a dominion.
I find it laughable and sad that some are compelled, nay, FORCED to bestow upon us, the unwashed masses, their gentle pearls of wisdom and jewels of expository logic. These same said souls wouldn't know a kind word or a meaningful interpersonal relationship not bestowed by a relative or something they have to inflate.
So, go ahead, continue your diatribes and little venom spewing parties... Continue to lay down your frillions of stories, anecdotes, musings, rants and nonsensical ravings. It wastes no one's time who will miss it.
We play a "game." It is, in and of itself, a time waster. Should the game dissolve into the ether tomorrow, and, as Shakespeare said, "leave not a rack behind," we will, by and large, find a new time waster to busy ourselves with.
That being said, I would appreciate this time waster to be available to me as quickly as possible. -
y is game srvr down still?????????? its liek srvr hs ben down all day almost! i wunder why devs havnt tryd fixing it yet?????????????? if ne1 nos wats going on plz let me no!

As it stands, the buffs are faded. This seems to happen to buffs, some debuffs and most incoming attacks... for some of us it's hard to decipher what some of these icons are when the are only about 50% opaque (rough estimate). I'm not saying to revert it back for everyone, though for most people I know that would be better than the faded icons. I'm saying if possible make an option to change how they work, switch between the faded icons and the fully opaque icons for everything at player discretion. This has actually been one of my least favorite small changes in a long time.

Quote:I got the same thing, but I actually went through and answered all the questions. I'm also not afraid to get snippy with the support staff when they are wrong, which I did do in all of my responses to my petition... as it stands it's been escalated and I'm waiting for a senior GM to tell me it's working as intended and it's all my Computer's fault. /sarcasmThis all sounds uncomfortable familiar. I sent in a petition and was replied to with a generic survey about what kind of modem I use and who my ISP is. The issue certainly does not appear to be on my end if it is affecting so many other players.
But yeah hopefully the fact that I was a lot more pushy about it then I would normally be while not being "rude" will help. Honestly whether or not you respond to their irrelevant questions, the more petitions sent in about it, the more likely they are to realize it's not on our end - it's on theirs.
So far UberGuy's posts seem to have the best all-encompassing and most educated explanation and description of the issue.
Also, this has indeed been happening for at least 3 days that I've noticed at this point, with fluctuating severity. -
I encourage people experiencing issues involving lag, disconnecting, crashing, or bugged icons to send a petition, as what I gather as it stands is they believe it's an issue with my computer as opposed to an issue with their servers, from what they are saying in replies to my petitions.

Quote:I actually kinda figured it wasn't just PvP, but it only happened to me while PvPing. It's not just PvP. It's doing it all over the place. Missions, iTrials and a Hami raid all experienced all this wackiness.
I became more suspicious when I was crashing out of Pocket D randomly, which never happens to me.
It's very obnoxious when playing healers, especially in PvP where you rely on reading icons a lot, which are not accurate in the least under this lag. I've seen people with triple stacked Phase Shift icons, which is impossible unless the icons are wrong. -
I PvP on my claws/fire brute. Ms. KITTYKATLOLOLOL
Send me a tell if you want to duel. -
We were trying to kickball tonight, had 7v7 in both matches and gave up after 2 matches because people were constantly lagging out/disconnecting/crashing/randomly getting booted off teams.
The lag was so bad that people couldn't pop greens sometimes. -
As of today the game is pretty much unplayable in large arena matches and PvP zones (Recluses Victory) on Freedom. I have talked to a lot of people today who are having TERRIBLE lag in them. I don't know if it's happening in other places, but it is definitely an issue in PvP.
inb4 obligatory lolPvP posts.

Hellmurke was Shield/ss and Impure was Claws/Regin if I recall correctly.
Anyways, looked like it turned out well Merc, feel free to let me know if you host any future events and I will try my best to promote them in the FPvP2011 channel. -
I put it in the MotD in the FPvP2011 channel Merc, hopefully that will get you a few more people.

WTB Server stability.

The server's went down for "Immediate Maintenance" to investigate server stability issues.

Quote:This. I don't understand why PvE'ers think it's productive to bash PvP. If you don't like it don't do it, end of story. Clearly there are still plenty of people who enjoy PvP despite it's seemingly low population, so let them continue to do so, and you can continue to enjoy your grindy repetitive PvE that PvPers don't like.A level 50 Free For All and/or Cross-Server PvP zone has been asked for as long as I can remember, and I have been PvPing since i3 beta. Obviously im supportive of the general idea as a whole, FFA/being able to team with whoever sounds very fun. I believe the zone should be max level. Also I don't know how feasible it would be having a Cross-Server type zone, but sounds awesome regardless.
Pleanty of us play strictly for the PvP, but that does not warrent us to say no to every single addition we do not like or would not currently use. I don't care about half the stuff they add, but someone else might like it, I don't go out of my way on the forums to bash a player-base how small or minute they may be. PvP has been apart of this game for a very long time, if your not over it by now, I don't know what to say other than get over it we are not going anywhere. Just because we don't have the vocal majority here on the forums does not mean we are shunned from new shiney game additions.
In before the rest of the people claiming the PvP population is non-existant. Seriously? It's clearly not as bad as some of you PvE forum lurkers claim it to be. RV always has people available, any time night or day. Arena Kickballs (Style of picking with 2 team leaders picking until teams are filled) are started almost every single night, we actually had to up the user numbers on ventrilo.
The PvP community also has PvP leagues often, started the year with the FML league on freedom, then we had a C.A.P.E. league on champion, and are currently starting another Freedom PvP league that looks promising. The PvP community deserves new stuff, regardless if you support it or not.
Why not be supportive and come up with better ways to do things rather than bring up random population percentages that mean nothing. Thanks.
To each his own. -
Ideas like this have been brought up before, just not recently because most PvPers have learned that asking for ANY PvP additions from the devs is pretty pointless and has proven unsuccesful on almost all attempts in the past 2 years or so.
We haven't even seen bug fixes for PvP in a long time.
Basically it's a good idea and any PvP additions at this point would be nice, not gonna happen though.
Maybe a few issues from now they will look at PvP again if it's not completely died off by then.
^LOL
I challenge any Developer to prove me wrong by actually doing something directly to PvP... <-- also LOL
