    WoW copies CoX?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I totally agree, in the case of WoW, success has very much bred success. As the only mainstream MMO (I doubt I am being controversial callingit that), it has been able to attract customers normally outside of the MMO market. However my comment about subscriber level was merely a tongue-in-cheek response to a rhetorical question about which MMO "wins". My real answer has always been that neither one wins, both are good at different things and it is possible to play, enjoy and support both games.

Also, I believe that GR has stated that i14 will not be getting a boxed release in the EU. So the dire lack of marketing continues.

    Edit: Beaten, damn j00 Neko!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Arrghh.. if so the marketing of COX is stupid beyond believe. WOW is being pushed to every gamer in the world. It is in shops.. on walls advertizing.. on television etc. COX isn't even buyable in the shops at the moment. Almost all boxes where sold out ages ago.

Not that I state that COX would win a competition. But it has been dead in every marketing option around the world.

COX will have to be available as box in every shop that will bring out CO... So that customers can choose between the wto. If not.. all will pick the brand-new CO. Without ever knowing COX excists.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ^ This. Pure and simple.
People dont KNOW about CoX. Out of sight, out of mind. Out of mind, out of even an option
NC, seriously, I would reccomend getting your, hah, game together and, more importantly, out on the shelves.
  2. NPC Kheldians do use shapeshift, actually. So...might be implementable in future, or something.
GodsDAMN, I might need to download Test just to try this out
  3. The Chief instantly had to lash out internally to stop Omega from simply launching him forward to try and tear the surgeons limb from limb. While Alpha restrained his seething companion, the Chief slunk behind a large cistern, his internal glow dimming down to nothing, helping him blend in. He motioned pointedly for the others to either stay put or find cover. If they made too obvious an approach, the Vahzliok could easily try and hold the captives as, well, meatshields.
    Wait...
What had they meant be 'robot'?

No, my gripe is with contacts that send you to nearly EVERY zone in Paragon, especially those ones that are complete swines to get to. Such as Creys, faultline (NEEDS a monorail line!) amongst others.
    Horribly planned, IMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uh, Creys takes 30 seconds to get too from Bricktown, and is a Hazard zone anyway, so no monorail.
Faultline has the Pocket D entrance, and there's a monorail station in Skyway right next to the Faultline entrance, how is that inconvenient?

Mind you, I do agree about the contacts sending you all over the sodding place...

Anway, I hope you don't play WoW... You REALLY wouldn't like getting around in THAT game!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I know its not 'too bad' but, really, it could be so much better. It would help a damn lot if all the monorail was linked. Thats one of the few things CoV does better, at least its normally quite easy to get around. CoH feels like City of Rushhour sometimes.

Oh, quite. Stack up on the shotgun shells and crosses for the doom attack of the walking dead, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not till Friday. Haven't heard a single server merge murmur all weekend.

    [/ QUOTE ]

-reloads the sniper rifle and passes around the spare ammo-
Reasons for that? Not that I know of...
But yeah, the repetitive doom threads tend to crop up at weekends. Mind you, GR seems to be ambushing them even then

I dont think the games perfect, sure, but I think, atm, its doing pretty damn well. An engine or graphics overhaul would be great, but...-prays for great I15- ^^
  6. The Chief had barely snuck inside when he heard the door crank open behind him. Omega seethed angrily, and it took both the Chief and the mind of Alpha, Omega's Peacebringer counterpart, to keep the angry Warshade in check. Nevertheless, as the Chief took on a shadowy form, he shot a warning look at Flash, the arched metallic brow making his annoyance quite clear, before he quickly looked back and scanned the room...
  7. [ QUOTE ]
But you know that to speculate about such things will result in

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOM threads and requests for Server Merges because the game's dead on its feet as we all know right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, quite. Stack up on the shotgun shells and crosses for the doom attack of the walking dead, right?
  8. The Chief glared at the gateway, glancing at the others in the tunnels cramped, stinking confines. He seemed to be leaking negative energy at every joint, and it was hard to make out his darkened form against the shadows. Anyone who knew the Chief, by repute or study, would recognize the aspect of Omega, the Warshade that had, at some point, merged with the robotic alien. The faint tang of nictus energy was another giveaway.
"Be careful," the Chief growled, before glaring at the door again. "I'm going to take a looksee...Follow me if you hear screaming."
Without another word he seemed to slip into total darkness, and a deeper, seething shadow leaked through the folds in the iris doorway, as the pure energy form of Omega leaked stealthily through into the next room...

I think you will find there are a couple of free new costume sets coming up too.

She was responsible for the Faultline and Hollows revamps, so at the very least she made the doors in the Hollows easier to get to...

No idea if she's responsible for Technician Bloody Naylor though

I thought all Naylors were just through that portal right next to him?

Work on the search/invite options is a definate /signed. Even if only to bring its annoyance factor to attention.

Just use the red flag if you're soloing or even /hide.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And if you don't want invites to PUGs, but do want invites to your regular/SG teams. No, this is not much of an option.

As late as today, I got another "You wanna join TF" tell, to my villain. I told them it's way easier to find people if they say what STRIKE Force they mean (contact, not name, since people don't know them) and level range. It turns out they where actually talking about an ouroboros initiated story arc and not a task force at all. Still, they didn't send a blind invite at least.

Being busy inventing a numina, some purples and other recipes it took me some time to answer, and righto... They had logged off a few minutes after sending that invite, just like 70% of the people asking for invites seem to do.

Ergo, it's most definitely not impolite not to answer private messages from unknown people. Only a medieval british gentleman could possibly think that!

(Oh, yeah, there where no gentlemen at that period, just the oppressed and the oppressors... well, sort of... ..and Jeanne D'Arc)

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, rare but irritating when I've been invited, got round to it and then found the person has logged.

I suggest that they build a more advanced invite box. ESPECIALLY the number of people on the team atm. I hate getting invites, thinking 'Goody, mission team at last', only to find its one random person.
Ok, being fair a team build often follows, and we're under way soon enough. But then theres the invites by idjits, who speak poor english ( Funnily enough, non-english people speak it better than natives...sigh ) and dont seem to get the game.
Quitting the team often follows those.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I suppose the fact it was marketed as a third person mmo/shooter was a bit too subtle for you.
And how is getting ammo bad? All you had to do was run to a shop and buy it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You did notice who you were replying to, right?
  14. Ah, alright.
Meh....Shes not the one who decides where missions are, is she?
If so, Id like to have a chat to her in regards to certain arcs...
  15. I don't even know the full list of Devs.
Posi, Castle I know. Warwitch I know of, but dunno what she does. Oh, and Jay, although Im miffed at him atm
    What others ARE there?
  16. The Chief moved up to the tunnel and hauled the rusted grill-gates open without a pause. He raised one glowing fist to the darkness, revealing little of the tunnel beyond.
"Alright. If you're coming, stay close and stick together. Running off in here will get you ambushed, or worse," he warned, glancing at the crowd around the entrance. "Anyone else, keep an eye on any other entrances around the place. Let the PPD know if you see anything else."
So saying, he squeezed through the tunnel entrance, his armour shifting to black and red as he slipped into the shadows beyond...

    [ QUOTE ]
I think a "weakness" element would be great. They did it with Kheldians (the Quantums are their weakness) and it works fine. Heck, I'd go so far as to say it's fun (but I don't have a K).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, by the time you get a Kheldian, it's assumed you know what Quantum Guns do to them, and also, personally, I find Q-Guns about as much fun as an acid enema.

Selectable weaknesses are generally used in RPGs to allow you to select more, or more powerful, powers, and there's no mechanism for that at the moment in the game. So, presumably, we would be selecting weaknesses with an opposing increase in resistance to something else. That would need to be very carefully balanced.

Dependent NPCs are a whole different ball game. Tha would be an absolutely massive new system. I would be against it because it's creating a machine mechanism for something better handled by real roleplay. Honestly, do you really think Superman wants to keep having to rescue Lois Lane from yet another predicament she's got heself into because she's too stupid not to? Having to rescue your beloved, again, and again, and again, would get old real fast.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ^ This, also.

You say Q-guns are cool, but havent got a Kheld?
Get to 50 and start a Kheld. Play for about fourteen levels.
If you come back and honestly claim to like them still, you are thenby classified as either insane or macho.
The only good Quant is a deadflattenedguttedandpushedbackintothevoidthatspa wnedthem Quant. -nods-

But sometimes it becomes horrible beyond belief.
They do need to try and hammer some sort of stability in. Agreed.

History lesson: (I'm old, I like history. )

This topic is not new (I'm sure no one is amazingly surprised) and got discussed way back. The reason given for not implementing a system like this was that it could put starting players off.

The reasoning goes like this: You start a new toon with no knowledge of what the game has in store for you. You like the look of ice powers, so you make yourself an ice/ice Blaster, or similar, and with it comes a resistance to cold and a weakness to fire. You think Magic would be a good origin. You start playing and the tutorial seems to be going okay, and then you walk into Galaxy City, get faced by a truckload of Hellions and are constantly having your bottom handed to you on a platter. You give up in disgust.

Why? Because you didn't understand the game enough to actually make that kind of choice.

Now, I think it could work as an optional feature which you could select at character creation, but then I pretty much know what kind of hell awaits me when I start playing these days.

    [/ QUOTE ]

  21. Definitely /Signed, although this should probably be in Suggestions.
Who really cares? I14 is so big and good looking it deserves every section it gets ^^
  22. [ QUOTE ]
How would this work? Would a Fire/Ice tanker melt himself?

Facetiousness aside, I think you're putting a lot more consideration into the powers than the devs did - hence there's not much organisation. This reminds me of the poorly organised Invention system ... and WW.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If all the CoX fans ganged together, pooled money, programmed, designed and built up a game, it would probably be...

Really, really complicated. Possible good and fun as well, but...yeah
Still...maybe they should start recruiting from the forums, even temporarily?

Given that WoW rakes in several thousand times as much as CoH, they could spend 1% of thier income on marketing and still spend more than the entire income of NCwest.

You must spend money to make money.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Like banks do?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, banks give away money to people who can't afford to pay it back, despite KNOWING that they can't pay it back, then sell these loans to others, who also know that these loans can't be paid back and when it all goes [censored] up the governments put the taxpayer into trillions of pounds/dollars in debt to keep what should be a business that can fail like any other afloat. Oh, not forgetting these places still give their staff bonuses for running a failing business and the CEO's of these banks still have their cushy golden handshakes and huge pensions to boot.

Except for the Bonuses part. Its only the higher up bosses who are corrupt, bureaucratic little vermin, and they are the ones that rip off the huge chunks of cash.
Most people, personally including my Dad, are just everyday people trying to make ends meet at the end of the year, and are suffering horrible because of the Government...

/endrant before I go on more

OT, are there ANY adverts at all for CoX? I've never seen them, anywhere, ever. If this is the case, thats a huge loss. Lost opporunities, lost players, lost notice. Sure, they might save a bit of money now...but thats the whole POINT of an investment, it pays off later!

  25. The Chief's visor blazed for a second, the colour steadily reverting back to red and white.
"Any of you who want to come along, head to Dark Water, now. Anyone who's staying, make sure this one gets to the hospital, ASAP."
With that the Chief turned and sprinted before powering into the air, arrowing off towards the given location.
