  1. Psycho, the link leads to BOTH versions of the hotfix. However if you failed to fully read the thread you may not realize that you MUST use IE to brows that page and you MUST expand out the "show more" options so you see everything. Its all there. Heck I even included a image in some post or another of what your looking for. You can NOT link directly.
  2. Like I've said previous...

If you've worked through the guide completely, including the hotfix and a driver rollback and are still suffering this issue... start a new thread with your coh helper and hijack this. Indicate what you've done and whats occuring. However if you have a 9x series card you may be able to reduce it but not cure it.
  3. CB, there is absolutely no reason you shouldnt AT LEAST install the hotfix. That isnt going to give you issues with other games. It may not solve the problem but it may decrease the frequency.

Also the age of your card matters... if your card is THIS YEARs 9800, that is last years 8800, and the hotfix may FULLY solve your problem. If its a older 9x series however the best you can hope for is less frequency. (Sometimes the hotfix fully fixes it on 9x series, but its often enough I make no promises.)

At least give the hotfix a try.

That said direct3d would be re-coding major portions of the game. That change isnt one that is likely to be coming. Of course theres a chance that that change was in the new engine that Jack ripped off from us, and we'll never get back. Such is life.

    Good luck!
  4. Cabin boy, this thread isnt for assistance. Please start a new thread with your coh helper and hijack this long, as well as an explanation of the problem and the things you have tried so far. GL!
  5. Static, new thread please....

Dizzwon, normally I wouldnt have thought anything of yours except that my own system went no-video twice last night out of the blue. However I think i know why MINE is unstable and its unlikely to be the cause of yours. Get your coh helper and hijack this logs into a new thread please.
  6. Bubbe, I'm not sure that its unique. That happens to many characters after many various types of crashes.

If your still crashing after workign through the guide, need both your coh helper report and your hijack this into a NEW thread where the rest of the crew can take a look please.
  7. Largo, it cant hurt an ATI system and is definitely worth trying.

Norious, please post that and your hijackthis information in a new thread for others to help you with.
  8. I had trouble with the windows update driver. I downloaded the 185's i think they are and got stable.
  9. OJ, post your coh helper and hijackthis reports ina new thread please.
  10. Agent, please repost that AND your hijackthis report into a new thread. Your on a mobile integrated driver and I'm not certain you have the same issue going on. Also please elaborate on how you crash. Also be sure your chipset drivers are up to date, and your using the newest video driver for your chip DIRECT from Nvidia - or in the case of your laptop http://laptopvideo2go.com/. Dell rarely has current drivers listed as they change monthly.
  11. This isnt precisely a CoX issue. Its a hybrid issue.

You've posted nothing telling me if you worked through my guide including the second part with the suggested drivers.

I suggest you start your own thread if you require further assistance with that information and your cohhelper and hijackthis logs.

And thats outside of this game not being terribly fond of SLI.
  12. Jem, It's about to become a almost non-existant issue. This hotfix is bundled into Vista sp2 thats due to release soon. Soon everyone that has properly updated their pc will have the patch. There will probably remain issues for some of the 9xxxx cards but thats not new. So, to answer you, I dont think so. I think this was a hiccup.
  13. Lev, start your own thread. Post your coh helper and hijackthis logs there (links in my sig).
  14. I grabbed the 185.20 x64 vista driver the TheNetAvenger mentioned and have totally lost the crashing.

I gamed all day 12+hrs with three clients running (minimum graphics settings) without so much as a hiccup from the OS or game. Everything works, no hacks. I'm still short a few board drivers but given that I have an nforce chipset, many things are covered with the nforce win7 beta pack. All in all I'm very please, although I'm still looking for ways to make it use even less system resources (like always).

Quickspecs: Lanparty SLI-DR MB (tempermental about memory), 4gigs DDR 400, 7900 GS video, Athlon 64 fx-53 (2.4GHz, single core, the weak link for multi client gaming).

Its crazy solid for a beta. I'd happily keep it if it was given to me. However I also feel not the least inclination to purchase it, I dont see any gain.

Avenger, can you point me to a thread, or share the details you know, about optimizing the nvidia settings for vista vs xp. I'd like to know where the differences are, as I often troubleshoot both. My searchfu turned up nothing useful tonight but if you can just point me somewhere I'm more than happy to read.
  15. Ncnub,

For the uninstall you want "Uninstall Only... the display driver" (the rest are mainboard drivers and as long as they are up-to-date, are not your problem.

Screenshot of Hotfix page Was buried on page 6 or 7.

When you have the page expanded all the way out like this, you see that their are two rows that only have different dates. Version 1 is from July and Version 2 is from October. You want the version 2 (or you can skip the hotfix and upgrade to sp2 beta which includes it). Its version 2 or sp2 beta you need.

(If you go to install the patch and it says your system does not take/require/use this patch, you simply downloaded the wrong one.)

Given that your on a 9xxx card, the odds are VERY high you will require a driver rollback. The 9xxx's have issues, LOL.

    @Tease
  16. Was gaming tonight on vista7 and was stable although low FPS. However after several hours, I threw a "wglmakecurrent failed" error and crashed. The only reason this is note-worthy is that is an OpenGL error according to everything I can find on it. I hope that doesnt bode badly for things to come. (Yeah yeah, I know its beta.. lol)
  17. This most recent box I installed vista7 on had the worlds slowest install times. Seriously I had nearly 2 hours in the install alone. The complete lack of progress bars often made me think it had hung when it hadnt. I just had to keep walking away from it so I didnt kick it across the room out of fustration. I dont know what triggered the super-slow install on that machine that hadnt occured on my other machine. I dont know if it was because I was dual-booting it with "An Earlier Version of Windows" (XP) or if I've got a piece of hardware it doesnt appreciate. Once I got through the install though, it runs alright. Of course I lack mainboard drivers for 90% of my hardware on that box, so I cant do too much.

So, if your "hanging" on installation... you might want to try going to take a walk. I cant say it wont be a true hang, but you just might be in the situation I was too.
  18. MOTDAY, I'd say your browser presented you the wrong OS version (x86 vs x64) and thats why it declined it. If you didnt manually force it to download the right one, thats why. The patch is included in sp2 beta however, so glad to hear your golden.

TreyTrey, after you work through all the suggestions here, including rolling back your driver, if you still have issues, start your own thread please.
  19. No Fade, its certainly not only the 9x messing up. It is however the 9x cards that we are having the most difficulty getting stable. Ex has also posted that (official) tech support is having the same issues with the 9xxx series. In 99% or so of most cases we can get everything stable BUT the 9x cards. However with both the hotfix and the driver rollback even the 9x's get substantially improved (down to once a day or so) instead of really frequent crashing. (To make matters more confusing, the 9x series is becoming the 1x series, if I understand this renaming mess half-correctly.Heres to good ole' confusion.)

I DID agree with the argument of them dropping support for some openGL calls, when I saw it across so many systems. However the second version of the hotpatch alone (unlike the first version) is enough to get most cards back able to use the newest driver. So that issue doesnt fully pan out. This is also uniquely a vista issue, and NOT uniquely a Nvidia issue. ATI cards can and (albiet much much more rarely) do get this same issue (I havent confirmed for ATI if its linked to this game or some other trigger however). This is a three headed monster named Vista-Nvidia-CoX.

PS: Perfect_Pain, You have the most trouble with that PC! I wish you were my neighbor or something that I could get a good look at whats going on with that box. It sure does love griefing you, LOL.
  20. Those of you that are still stuck, need to post a new thread with full details and full system reports (coh helper and hijackthis). Like I said, we still arent getting most of the 9xxx cards totally stable but usually down to once a day or so. Post your reports so we can look at the systems - in independent new threads - that this isnt working for.
  21. Aero is a skin of sorts. Its what makes vista so shiny. On your desktop right click... select Personalize.. Select Window Appearance and Settings... In the dropdown box you can select, among several, Window Aero and Windows Vista Basic.
  22. Justice,

This is a known issue. Infact I see it at least a half-dozen times a week and wrote a guide that I wont repost in every single thread. We seem to be able to get every card stable but the 9xxx series at this point. We usually can get them either stable or down to once a day from frequent crashes as I note in that thread. Beyond that, if they're using the drivers that get them to that point, there isnt much more we can do. I do have some other random suggestions I and other users have handed out, but all thats in the sticky.

178.13 is the current driver and the latest driver out is the following...GeForce Release 181
    Version: 181.20 WHQL
Release Date: January 8, 2009 which I already tried to use.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You might try using the drivers I posted links to. Good luck.
  24. Post your Hijackthis, Dxdiag, and your former driver version and current driver version if you continue to have issues. Your on a 9xxx card, so thats semi-likely.
  25. You try my vista crash sticky?
