Same picture but with a slightly different background

The background is really hard to see. Can you pump it up a bit? The characer is getting lost in the black... which is kind of appropriate for his design, but it undercuts the impact of the piece.

I might suggest the real struggle in this piece is the ambitious layout of the background black and white versus the foreground black. Black shapes on black backgrounds generally require abandoning traditional techniques for more specialized tricks, but in this case, the positioning of the spotlight puts half of the foreground shape against a white background........

Alot of that went right over my head.. thanks regardless for the feedback. You made a few suggestions however which I'll try out though art is not my strongpoint. -

Wow, thats looking really cool man!! I'm sure your son will love it!
Just a thought, you may want to tone down the brightness of the CoH logo, as it looks a bit too white for its surrounding area. But it looks fantastic anyhow!

Can definitely tone down the brightness of the logo -

Thats weird..the background looked okay on my laptop but looking at it now at work I can barely see it. Definitely want to fix that up..especially as the whole intention is to have the image printed poster size. -

Great job on this, he looks like a cross between Spawn and Venom.

Thanks -
Thanks.. I had a case of the dreaded 'empty space' so at first I put the COH, NCsoft and Cryptic logos along the bottom but that looked tacky. Tried the COH logo in the spotlight on a whim and was pleased with the result.

Never actually heard of Staples..I'm sure its a non-Australian group. I've done some ringing around though and it all seems very reasonable.

Very dramatic, I bet he loved it!

His birthday is still a month away which gives me time to now query the best (and cheapest) option for getting a poster sized print made up for him to put on his wall.
Thanks everyone for the compliments! -

Thanks dude..thanks a heap -
Hi all,
I wanted to give my 6 year old a special present for his birthday by giving him a picture of his favourite COH toon, Redback Spider. I have next to no talent drawing so decided to try and whip something up in Photoshop. Pretty proud of it..the basis was a rendered image of Venom that I found.
Anyhow here it is.
What do you think? -
Was just about to say 'Nice Colors' but it looks like everyone beat me to it.
Nice Colours regardless -
Hey not bad at all for a time time artist. Keep up the good work which I look forward to seeing
-
Hey! Thats awesome
I agree with Piepgrass, the shield halves on each arm are brilliant...I can almost imagine him in a defensive pose..wrists (and sheild harves together) blocking some sort of energy blast! -
Thanks for all the advice everyone. Its really appreciated.

Hey TT,
just a little advice that might help you in your endeavor...
-post up your screenies in this thread so people can get an idea of your character.
-scan the other threads for artists you like.
-contact said artist and work out the details.
Hope that helps a bit man.

Thanks for the assist.. will do as you suggested. -
Hi all,
I'd really like to get some artwork done of one or more of my toons. I have tried to do it myself but drawing isn't my strong point.
Is there any of you talented artists out there who would be kind enough to help me out?
I can arrange to send you however many in game shots as you require.
Thanks in advance -
Nooooooooo I can't enter!! For once in my life I wish I wasn't an Australian!
-
I'm a hybrid user myself..though I would wait until the x2 or x7 level to buy. Reading this though I can see the merits of what you suggest. Will give that one a try and see how it goes.

I love this guide! I think it helped to make my main character's costumes look much better. Here's some (admittedly mediocre) before and after shots:
Taumaril's main uniform:
Before
After
Taumaril's alternate uniform:
Before
After (Front) After (Back)
Actually, her alternate costume is quickly becoming her standard. I don't know about any of you, but I like them.

My advice.. stick to the originals -
This guide seems to be a bit old. Anyone know if there is an updated version around.
So far I am having 2 problems
* The GameCam program I just downloaded doesn't seem to capture footage from the game (even though it is running in the background, I don't get the preview when I go to load my demo)
* How do I remove player named from my demos? I can remove everything but those. -
My take on this.. its a freebie. Take it for concept alone or not..love it or not. It didn't cost you a powerslot so it should not be an issue.
