Quote:Well Super Speed does have stealth. Super Speed is probably the weakest even though it is technically the fastest since yah you trip on a lot, can't run up walls (which they should totally do).Sure, as long as the ceiling cap is 20' so that you would have to dodge every mob that Super Speeders have to.
But I think because of "balancing" they have made flight too slow. Getting to and from missions isn't the fun playing is.
But some characters get around by theme and need to fly. -
Quote:Going from 0% Defense to 8% Defense by itself is completely pointless. It is not worth the endurance or power slot. 8% won't make them miss enough for anyone to notice. To say CoD is a pointless power for DA is a bit missleading.
Iv played a DA/DM Tanker before. The CoD was way more helpful then it looks like it would be.It more then doubled my survivability on my Tanker.
Also, because of the Taunt capability of the Tanker class. You wont lose any agro. The game mechanics are also designed in a way that once a bad guy see's you in a cloak, no matter how powerful it is, will always see you if you run off and come back.Even after its walked back to its spawn area.Meaning your cloak is no longer effective if youv had aggro on that baddie before. So the answer is No.
For builds that have DA but dont have the support from DM, then its not that big of a diffrence if you get it or not.The added -toHit from your DM attacks really makes it pay off as a Defensive power.
On a side note.To say CoD is pointless in any way would be like telling a Willpower Tank player to not worry about Damage Resistance in there build.Statements like those are counter productive as a whole.
Now if the 8% takes you from 22% to 30% then yes, its far more significant. Defense is exponentially better the closer you get to 45%. -
Quote:Zombie thank you for pointing out that I am technically wrong.NINJA RUN IS NOT FASTER THAN FLY.
Ninja Run + Sprint with 1 Run SO = 43.9 mph
Ninja Run + Sprint with 1 Run SO + Swift with 1 Run SO = 50.6 mph
Fly with 1 Fly SO = 51.7 mph.
---------
Ninja Run + Sprint with 3 Run SOs + Swift with 3 Run SOs = 58.1 mph
Fly with 2 Fly SOs = 58.6 mph (already past the fly cap).
--------
Only after spending 3 extra slots, one powers slot, and many IO bonuses can you get Ninja Speed past the fly speed cap.
The speeds are roughly equivalent it would appear. And they are probably beating me places because I gain altitude and lose altitude. Thus, they are going in a straighter line than I.
I still feel like Flying could be a good smidge or four faster. -
Hey, I'm not wanting a war. I just really like more content. I like customization.
I have a lot of alts now and even more that I'd love to make. I like the game. I didn't go play Champions Online. I just want to have more options in this great game.
My crossbow guy wouldn't be the same with a bow and arrow. I have a few bow and arrow guys. I like it but I want something different.
I know that redoing a lot of things that have been redone took a lot of work. The coding when originally done didn't allow for easy customization. But the Dev's have done a lot of work to make things different now haven't they? It seems that if when they did all that work, I would hope, they made it easy to say add more skins for Assault Rifle, so a crossbow skin wouldn't take that long. I'm trying suggest easier ways to add more content.
AND IF I WANTED TO GET INTO THE SCIENCE OF A CROSSBOW HAVING TO BE WOUND. I WOULDN'T BE ABLE SUSPEND MY DISBELIEF TO PLAY THIS GAME. Someone can't shoot 100 arrows to make it Rain Arrows either. Its a game. -
Cloak of Darkness will not hurt your ability to Taunt or hold aggro.
Cloak of Darkness will provide ~8% defense fully slotted. 8%>0%.
I just wouldn't want anyone thinking that without IO's you'll be able to get meaningful Defense from it. You won't. Unless you can focus your build around gaining enough defense, then you will not have enough Defense to be meaningfull.
My Correction, and this is only fair, if you can and do take the time, choose the proper powers and slot for Defense on this build, you will be near unstoppable. The reason for this is because Defense was never supposed to be a huge part of the total defense of a Dark (Tank, Scrapper, Brute), the other defensive abilities work really well too. Put it all together and you will be able to do stuff others can't.
Don't forget Dark is very playable without going for Defense. It has the best heal in the game, Resistance to exotic damage that many sets don't. Decent overall resists. And all its controlish mitigation as well. You don't need the Defense to have good defense on a Dark Tank.
My Dark/Stone is very very strong good tank. It uses a lot of endurance, but it survives a ton of damage and provides an inormous amount of mitigation for my team as well. As I add to him, I may try to build for Defense, but I won't try to do just a little Defense if I do. I also won't forget that all the other stuff in Dark combines to make for a strong tank without the defense. -
I think that Masterminds should get some more flexible Masterminds that can be heros or villains. Once Going Rogue comes out one of the first things I'll want to do is take a Mastermind heroside.
I'd prefer a less weapon dependant choice, that would grant more flexibility to themes and stories.
I would second the Superheroes/Villians. You could probably have the styles be one mean one angry which would of course be a second set of costumes for each model, but they don't have to be too special. What might be cool is if they adopted whatever chest symbol your toon had so it could look like your toon was its own supergroup.
I also like the self-duplicating mastermind. Seems awesome. I really like the concept. -
Agreed. Dual Pistols is an awesome addition. Look how many people ordered it early. It has created great buzz for the game during the 2XP weekend.
This made a ton of people happy and filled a much needed hole in concepts.
I hope we have many many more powers to pick from in the near future. Powers and hero customization are huge keys to making the people happy.
Dual Pistols seems a success. -
Quote:The problem is two fold.[Insert any powerset that contains Knockback] sucks, because of a couple people I saw who didn't know how to use it well.
(Then again, it would be nice if a couple of attacks for PB's had Knockup instead of Knockback - Solar Flare and Radiant Strike being good examples. As for Nova powers, it doesn't take much brains to fly over the spawn and shoot from above.)
One, you should've played another toon to 50 if you are playing a Peacebringer. I expect some game knowledge from that.
Two, by 49 you ought to be able to play your toon in a group. That should be a lot of hours. In that you'd think she'd learn to manage the damage.
But there is so much knockback in the Peacebringer set its hard not to use any of your offensive powers. I have to admit, I'm not sure what I ws supposed to tell her to do. What do y'all think she should've done, not attacked? I'd have kicked her for that too. I guess she could pick off stragglers.
Its not like Tanks have a built in anti-knockback field that can keep them together. Some Controllers have anti-knockback, but lordy it wasn't fun.
I have a fifty now and several 40+, but I have no interest in a set with that much knockback in it, unless I was going to solo. What's the point of soloing in an MMO?
I have a stormie. I understand how to use the knockback well on that Archetype. The knockback is a positioning tool. But Khelds just seem broken from the outset. When the knockback is attached to your damage attacks its just painful not to use them.
I love the visual of Power Push. But knockback is so aggrevating.
I don't inherently hate all knockback. But Kheldians seem beat with it. -
Quote:Actually, I was trying to focus on the Sweep Combo for the knockup control that it would give. Weaken won't help me much since I'll already have close to softcap if not soft capped .That's the feeling for a lot of Tier 1 attacks for Tankers. They're usually going to be used and useful fairly often, though. I don't slot up Scorch too heavily on my Fire/Fire, for instance, but I still use it plenty, especially when I exemp down.
I would argue that you should reconsider Weaken a bit. That is actually a useful combo for when you get in over your head, and also makes it easier for a big chunk of foes to hit. Depending on your team, doing that may be more useful than Attack Vitals or Sweep, actually.
But the thing about Dual Blades is that it takes three powers to make one of your powers work. So it feels even less forgiving. -
Quote:I'm just saying that there is little reason for fly now. The getting places safely. Do you have a problem getting places with Super Jump? I feel sorry for you. Super Jump is an easy travel power to use. There are few places in the game you can't get with Super Jump. I used to take SJ on most toons, because I wanted Combat Jumping more than Hover or Air Superiority as a pre-requisite.If Fly had SS type speed or even SJ type speed why would you take any other travel power? Other than RP, that is.
The ability to go anywhere at 90+mph in perfect safety,.....YES PLEASE ON ALL MY TOONS!
We would have much fewer numbers of people who take the other travel powers and it would(IMO) make things more bleh without the occasional mid-travel "what the heck just hit me?".
A minor boost maybe, but not near SJ or SS in speed.
Ninja run is actually good enough at getting most places, but it does take creativity to get some places.
The value of fly is really overrated in the game. Jump is a better powerset, or it was before IO's gave a lot of toons less reason to take Acrobatics. -
When they designed this engine they said that they couldn't change weapon design.
They were able to.
When they designed the engine they said that they couldn't change the color of powers.
They were able to.
I'm asking them to do things they have already done. Not the supposed impossible -- the Dev's have a history of telling us they can't do stuff or its too hard, then they do go and do it.
Applying what they have done before and saying none of what I'm asking for has to be re thought threw.
Now if you think other things are higher priority. Maybe I'd agree with that. I'd personally like a staff fighting set much more than crossbows, but that really is new animations and balancing.
But, I think it would be less than a week of work for one employee. And I'd like to see a lot of little things like this thrown in. -
I'm not complaining whole sale about the performance so much as the fact I have to take Nimble Slice at tier 1. I don't really want the power and I don't need it for a combo I want. And it blows that it is so tight.
-
Ninja Run is free. It isn't a power. I bought it as an extra and it gets me to most my mishes faster than fly. That's wrong.
WHy did I take fly? It looks good for this toon.
Fly should be much faster. -
-
Its a real power. I used a power slot to get fly. WHy can't it be faster than ninja run.
-
I had a level 49 Peacebringer that didn't know that KB was knockback and didn't know that it was doing kb.
We had two Archery Blasters on the team trying to use Rain of Arrows and the nimrod kept blasting and breaking them up.
I eventually kicked her. But oh man its frusterating.
We had another one later that was better, but still lots of knockback equals not keeping mobs bunched. -
I have wanted this port for a very long time. I'm not a fan of Stalkers, I played a DB/Nin to 38. I just didn't like her.
I had hoped they would port Ninjistu to Scrappers to give them a cool set. Someone had mentioned a problem with Caltrops being in this set and the Ancillary. But that too could be fixed with giving some other power.
Hide -- Cloak of Darkness
Caltrops -- Venom Grenade -
Quote:I knew the pools weren't strong enough on their own to do much, but I was thinking that they might be worth something when put with another good power or two.I have a MM, Necro/Dark. He has the two power pool fears, plus fearsome stare. It seems to work pretty well for him. He can stack up a decent mag between all three, fearsome stare and invoke panic work nicely on the chaff. Lich and DarkServant I think both have fears they use frequently to good effect. Between my three fears, and my minions fears, lots of frightened mobs.
Fear can be quite good, but you really need more then just the pools.
Is stack mag fear worth anything or is it just win more? -
Quote:I love how easily you just accept that. The item most people want in the game is new powers and new customization.BaB's workload would be identical to creating an entirely new powerset. So for instance instead of Demon Summoning he could do this.
Edit: Could have done this, I should say. Since Demon Summoning is already mostly done.
Demon Summoning is way harder to do. There are probably 6 demons. Each has 3 costumes. They all probably have about 9 to 10 power animations each.
Then you have to write the AI for each of them.
Then you have to beta test it.
Then you have to rebalance.
Test it again.

With Crossbow there isn't anything game wise to balance. You use an existing set and cut and paste new animations. But the animations aren't knew you can really just take them from another set.
I even said I'd be happy if they put crossbow in Assault Rifle. Did not change the ammunition. I would ask that they give us new sound effects, but if that's too hard to make I'll get my little cousin making some sound effect files for the swooshing sounds and send it to BaBs.
If they want to make a new crossbow set out of it. That's fine by me. I just want more abilty to make the toons I have in my head. I'm not sure we need another War Mace / Battle Axe deal though, where you could just have easily used the same powers with different weapon models. -
Quote:I would agree with you that I don't mind if they use bullets either. Since crossbow bolts are much smaller than a Bow's arrow.I think this is impractical for all the reasons stated.
I think a shorter solution would be to allow dual hand crossbows for dual pistols characters. Hell, they could even still shoot bullets for all I care.
Lewis
But if they did it they would have to make it for both Dual Pistol, small crossbows and Assault Rifle with heavy crossbow. -
Quote:I'm just saying it would be a good starting place. I would say by using some or most of the animations from Assault Rifle, then putting the arrows in from Archery. At that point you are 3/4 cut and paste and it just needs polish to be done well.It doesn't really work that way. The animation includes everything about the power. They might be able to get some mileage out of reusing part of the Assault Rifle animations (specifically the hand motions) but the Archery animations all involve a physical arrow leaving the bow and moving across the screen. Theoretically I guess they might be able to cobble together an animation that used the hand motions from AR and everything else from Archery but I don't think ti would look very good.
Use the same technology that grants you a choice between alternate animations in Martial Arts and Super Strength.
Add in 5 or 6 crossbows and speargun choices and we are set.
I never expected it to be something done in one person's lunch break. But I also don't think its as hard as you are making out. -

Quote:8% is not a lot of defense in your primary to start with and then go and soft cap. There isn't any more defense in the set. Compare that to fully slotted Frozen Armor : 26.5% Defense to smashing and lethal. But the set stacks more defense from Wet Ice and Energy Absorbtion later.Do you actually expect to get 8% defense to everyhing *without* having to devote a power pick to get it? That's the same amount as Weave, which many players are willing to sacrifice a power pool and *three* power picks to get.
I also think you need to keep in mind that Dark was designed as primarily a resist/utility set, to expect it to also have substantial amounts of defense is unreasonable, IMO. CoD provides a nice base of defense (in addition to its immob protection, stealth, and +perception) for players who want to increase their survability in that way, the other two all-resist tanker primaries, FA and Electric, don't even get that!
It takes a lot of work to softcap 8% Defense. On top of it you have no resist defense debuff. I'm not sure its worth it to even try. Since you can add a lot more survivablity by playing to your other strengths.
Its not that 8% defense is paultry. Its just I think I'd rather spend my power choices and slots a different way.
