Duh. But the problem is the 60% refusing to play, not the idea itself. Like I said from the beginning, this community is not capable of doing something like it. Not sure what we're arguing about. I said it's a good idea but is not realistic. You say it's a bad idea because it's not realistic. I think we can stop arguing now.

LOL wow. That's more than NPC's can do in PvE! He really is learning.

And yeah, he does seem to be a habitual liar...those times that he says something that makes any sense at all

LOL nice, personal attacks are the way to go I guess. Face it, you don't know anything about me. I PvP'd on test long before I ever heard of you. Not that it matters - just don't make baseless assumptions.

Also, you having the opinion that something is a terrible idea doesn't actually make it one. It's your opinion. In the end, it really doesn't matter because it's clearly not going to happen.

Exactly. But hey, it's your guys' league, so you get to decide how it runs. I know what I suggest would help the problem, but I can't force you to do it. Maybe in a year or 2 when the competition is even more dead, you'll finally be ready.

It would definitely help. I speak from experience. This isn't the first dying game I've played. All competitive games eventually get to a point where the community becomes very small and becomes comprised of really good players and not so good ones. The really good ones tend to be on the same couple teams.

When they're forced to split up, this creates more competition. This specific idea allowed a dying Unreal Tournament 1 game to keep being competitive for like 3 more years, after ALL ladders died and 99% of teams disbanded. You know, exactly like CoH right now?

People put their egos aside, went with a full draft, sometimes ended up on teams with their friends anyway (depending on the leader's drafting strategy), met new friends, and ended up having like 10 seasons, becoming actually probably the most successful league in the game's history.

No, the drafted teams were not as good as the top teams that existed when the game was in its prime...but it was the best solution for the problem. Instead of just complaining about no competition, the community went and created it. Too bad this community isn't capable of that, as that would be fun to see in CoH.

Isn't that the point? It's called parity. It's the whole reason for salary caps in professional sports. It's why the winning teams don't win by tripling the other teams' scores, and why every year it's usually different teams battling for the #1 spot, not the same 1-2 teams.

Regarding friends, I did mention that. People will never put the community's needs ahead of their own. If forced to not play with their friends, they will simply not play. But it's silly to imply there's no ego involved. You can always make new friends, you're still playing the same game, and you can still talk to your friends, even if they're on a different team.

The difference is that you're guaranteed to do worse than you're doing now, because you'll be on a worse team with worse players. It's totally understandable that you don't want to do that, but let's not lie to ourselves claiming it has nothing to do with ego.

The point is, splitting the top teams is what needs to be done to have a competitive community in this game. No way around it. That's how it is in every single dying game. There are oldschool players that are 10 times better than everybody else, and the ONLY way to have competition is to NOT have these players all on the same 1-2 teams. However, for the reasons stated above, it will never happen. It would be great, but it's not a realistic expectation. Which is why we can expect the current state of things to continue indefinitely.

100% true. That's what top teams don't seem to understand for some reason. It's like the top 3 teams in the NBA or NFL saying "hey we need more competition", and then going around random neighborhoods asking kids to put together their own NBA or NFL team and come challenge them. Yes, it would be nice if that was possible, but it's pretty silly to expect it.

Which is why it will never happen. Nobody wants to be completely owned every time they play. And if they're willing to put up with it, it sure isn't for long. Face it, there's nothing a brand new team can do to make up the YEARS of experience some players have. Some groups of players have been playing TOGETHER longer than some people have played the game in general. And when people make a new team, they don't do it saying "oh boy, one day we're going to accomplish being the #5 team in CoH!" They do it to win...to be #1. Except in the current system, they are absolutely guaranteed to lose.

The ONLY way to expand the community is to split up the 2-3 top teams and spread the best players among a bunch of new teams. Essentially a full "fantasy draft", if you will. But this has ZERO chance of happening, considering all the ego's in this game. Plus as much as everybody talks about bettering the community, in the end everybody just cares about themselves. Nobody is going to sacrifice his own fun (playing with friends) for the betterment of the community (leaving his friends to lead a bunch of strangers that are guaranteed to be worse than his friends).

    Bane for PvP

CJ is useful for slotting IO's, but it could be dropped.

Hasten is 100% mandatory for every PvP build.

    first brute

Thanks for the quick replies guys. As bad I consider axe, mace, DB, and stone.

While I'm not making it for PvP, in the end I would like it to at least not be completely useless at it.

Sounds like elec/elec is the way to go for me.

Saw him again last night. He actually attempted to PvP for a few seconds....literally. Of course he did 0 damage to anybody and died in like 10 seconds, but still. It was an attempt at least.

He does the exact same thing every time it seems. Gets webbed, and then proceeds to just run away. No healing, no phasing, no anything. Just run in a completely straight line, using only sprint. He has to be as bad as any player that has ever played this game. And I've seen some really bad ones.

Can't believe I never heard of him until like a month ago lol. I've been missing out.

    first brute

I've played basically everything except a brute. Kind of want to try it. I don't like repeating sets I've already played, so that leaves out a lot.

Basically I've narrowed it down to elec melee. Everything else I've played and/or it's just bad. How is elec melee overall? Any strengths/weaknesses? I definitely prefer AoE damage potential, and I think I saw someone say it's good at AoE.

As far as secondary, it's between elec and shield. Leaning towards elec, because of the heal and +end.

Let me know what you think.

Oh, last thing to mention is that I will most likely be playing with just SO's, so look at the sets from that perspective please.
  12. Super speed negates it, not travel suppression. And everybody has super speed. The only thing it's good for is disrupting AS, but since you're a stalker yourself, that's not an issue....at least for now.

Btw, I finally ran into Louie in RV. Holy ****, he really must be the worst corr on the server.

He seems to not even have a slight grasp of what to do. It's like watching a 3 year old try to play. I didn't realize a grown man could be that bad at such a simple video game. Wow.

Naturally, the only thing he ended up doing for 99% of his time there was tp drone. The one time I saw him outside his base, I killed him in seconds. And I kind of felt bad. It felt like beating a 3 year old.

Well, at least he doesn't post advice on forums

Wouldn't expect anything less from you, genius outside the box thinking amazing PvP'er!

Maybe I'll run into you again. Then you can spam a few more tier 1 attacks and die.

Well, I just ran into the great Dahjee for the first time. At least for the first time since I actually heard of him on here. Here is the summary of what happened.

I log into RV on my tank. It's kind of not busy, so I run around looking for someone to attack. All of a sudden, I'm held....with nobody around me. I get kind of worried. But nothing happens. The hold wears off in a couple secs, and I start moving again. Still nobody around me. Then it happens. I start getting hit with the ultimate attack chain of doom. I believe it was something like psi dart > psi dart > psi dart > psi dart.....but I could be wrong. There could have been another awesome attack in the middle.

I look up, and there is Misconcience flying above me. Sure enough, he was pretty high. His monster attack chain takes me to 98% health. No joke, it did literally nothing. With my 100% SO, zero accolade build, I regened it in about 3 seconds. Then I jump up to attack him, and he flies away.

About 2 minutes later I see him again. He's hovering in 1 spot, getting attacked by 1 guy. If he had SS/SJ, he could have at least attempted to evade. Instead, he's literally just hovering there in 1 spot, losing more and more health. I laugh, because I played TP toons long before him, and I know what he's doing. He's spamming his TP, desperatly hoping for one miss from his attacker, so he can get away. But there's no miss. In fact, I jump up to him and hit him with a fossilize.....it takes him to like 5% health. The other guy finishes him off with 1 more attack.

I say something in bcast about his TP skills being incredible, but unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it falls on deaf ears. By the time I'm done typing, I'm pretty sure he's already logged. I don't see him again.

Summary: Dahjee really is an amazing PvP'er.

If you had any credibility at all, it would have gone out the window after this. I've not seen you admit to a SINGLE mistake on here. Not one. And you've made a lot of them.

Not to worry though, you already had zero credibility, so you should be ok.

When you think far enough outside the box, impossible things become reality. Same as how a really bad flying dom can become an amazing PvP'er that totally turns the tides of zone PvP.

Want to learn how to do this yourself? Simple. When anybody says anything resembling reality, you simply say "no, it's the opposite of that". When people provide concrete evidence that you're wrong, you simply say "no, you're wrong and I'm right". Or, in some cases it helps to simply ignore those replies and pretend they were never brought up. Then a week later you can start the same argument with someone else.

    Tough Nerfed?

Please learn who you're talking to. Temp phase isn't even remotely close to being as good as the real thing. Taking tough in PvP is the sign of a noob, in about 99% of cases.

If you think tough helps more in PvP than phase, perhaps you need to think outside the box a bit more.

That sucks. Yeah, free transfers was one of the coolest things they did in the entire existence of this game.

And now that I think about it, perhaps I should try Virtue, since it seems about as casual as I am in PvP. But there's no way in hell I'm paying to do it.
  25. Do free server transfers exist anymore, or did that end?
