=O What an idea! I will most definitely have to add that in the Gallery section. =P
  2. Bumping this thread for the sake of PRODUCTIVITY.

I am currently working on hammering out the layout of the paper, formatting it and figuring out where everything is gonna go, etc.

Since Suichiro was the first to post, one of his piccies of Deebs will be the very first picture to be featured on the front page! YAY!

Suichi: I am most likely going to be putting the last pic you posted in, as I <3 that one. If you have it on a devart page or something, and you can get me the link, I'll try to direct link the pic in the paper to your devart if you would like. =) If not, I'll just use the already posted location for the pic.

If you guys would like to suggest any other pieces of art, please do. =D I know there are hundreds of awesome CoH artz out there, but I don't want to just put a bunch of random ones that I like in the paper. =D This is a community project, so we want to publish pics that the community likes!
  3. Oh, yes, all of those other pictures are great! I am favoring the last one, and that one will most likely make it into the gallery. =)

    Thanks for the suggestions, Suichiro!

Haha, no, the / in between those is for an 'either or' thing. We could have character weddings or character deaths in that section. Or both. Of course, this idea will probably be scrapped in favor of something else. Although, I must say, a wedding assassination story would make a great article for the paper. Even a great character. The vengeful spirit of a murdered bride-to-be. Genious.

Alrighty, I will be PMing you both soon about this. I am currently working on some kind of application I could have you fill out, but in the meantime I'll just ask you a few questions and such.

If that is what you meant, what are the specifications for an article? Things like article length (character limit), images, content guidelines, and pre-formatting--to make it easier on the editor, putting the article and attachments into the newspaper. What should be done to ensure an easy addition to the newspaper, really.
To your first question, absolutely YES! Anyone can submit an article to the paper for review, but they have to keep in mind that it's for REVIEW. Doesn't necessarily mean it will get published. I'm looking for well written, catchy, and fun stories.

I haven't set any specifications as of yet. As this paper is new, I'm really just experimenting with it at the moment, trying to figure out how many people are interested, how many articles we could publish each week on average, and the maximum length of the paper. At most, each article should be no longer than a page and a half, typed with 12 size font, and at least one picture if the person submitting the article wishes to have an accompanying pic.

P.S. I am currently in-game as No Common-Sense Girl! If you would like to get in on the paper, please send me a tell! Thank you!
  5. This ending was good, and the series overall is the best I've ever seen, but in the end there are a few mysteries that I wish they would have solved. Nothing huge but just...little tiny things that would have been so simple to explain away.

For example: What happened to Ben's childhood friend Annie? I believe at one point the writers said that Annie was one of the most important women in Ben's life, but we never heard anything about her after that one flashback episode. Have they ever said why they never explained what happened to her? Did she die in the Purge or was she evacuated with the other children before the Incident?

Okay, here's another nitpicky thing. I've heard a few people complain about Daniel having the last name 'Faraday' when neither his mom (Hawking) or his dad (Widmore) have that name. This is something that is really simple to figure out on your own. Personally, I just assume that off-island, Eloise simply married an unknown man with the last name 'Faraday.' He adopted Daniel as his son and at an unknown point in time this Mr. Faraday either died or divorced Eloise. Eloise took back her maiden name of Hawking, while Daniel kept his adoptive father's name. There ya go. Discrepancy solved.

There was another point I wanted to make, but now I forget what is was, so...yeah.
  6. ;_; You guys are so awesome.

Suichi, is that seriously the picture you're submitting? It's kind of...dirty.

Daniel was also in an episode of Star Trek, but in this case it was an episode of Voyager. I believe it was the one where the ship got stuck orbiting a planet where time moved super fast and civilizations came and went while Voyager tracked everything. Eventually, the planet's technology reached space-faring levels, and Daniel Dae Kim played one of the alien astronauts sent up to meet Voyager.

    /end nerd rant

Edit: So, Terry and DDK are the only Lost actors I know of who have been in Star Trek. Which is awesome, because Lost and ST are my favorite shows.

Also also, I believe the MiB is acting in The Good Wife? Right?
  8. Just watched the episode for the second time on my DVR, and I have to say it is much more profound the second time around. Knowing what's coming at the end just makes every moment that much more special, and seeing the connections and foreshadowing that was going on in the episode is just...fantastic.

It's hard to believe, but I actually cried MORE the second time. I actually had to take a break from babysitting my niece and nephew so I could go in the bathroom and sob for a minute. Man, I need to find someone to discuss this with.

Also, while I was watching this and crying my eyes out, my 2 year old nephew climbed up onto the couch, stared at me for a few seconds, and then jumped into my lap and gave me a hug. I was impressed and cried some more.

I think it makes some sense, because as much as Sayid loved Nadia, she was always a reminder of who he was. Not only did she remind him of his torturer days, but she was tortured by Sayid himself. Their love was always doomed, as it would always cause Sayid to revert to his torturer ways/bad impulses. We saw it when he betrayed his best friend in Sydney to get some info on Nadia. We saw it when, after Nadia's death, Sayid worked for Ben. We even saw it in limbo, when Sayid killed Keamy and crew to protect Nadia.

Sayid and Shannon, on the other hand, allowed each other to start anew. Sayid could be romantic without his past over his shoulder. Shannon could be accepted. They were truly each other's clean slate.
I was thinking about that this morning, and looking back, I think now that the episode about Sayid wherein Nadia was married to his brother was sort of Sayid's way of letting her go. She found happiness without him, and that gave him the opportunity to move on.

I had never really thought about Nadia being the 'reminder of his bad self', but that really brings to mind what Hurley said to him in the car. Wasn't it something like, "I believe you're good, but everyone keeps saying you're bad so you believe them. But I believe in you." Or something to that effect. Very powerful words.
  10. Minago, your post contains huge spoilers. Please spoiler tag it or edit the spoiler out.
    ---
Okay, I'm not ashamed to say that I cried myself to sleep over this episode. Not even kidding. That's how much I love this show. I woke up this morning feeling better than I have in days, started thinking about the show again, and the tears started falling. =/ Never have I been so deeply moved over a television show.

On another note, one of the most surprisingly happy things about this episode was the fate of Richard. I won't spoil anything, but it was definitely a heartwarming and satisfying end for one of my favorite characters.

No, it just means that when the people on the plane eventually die, they'll meet everyone. The Sideways place exists outside of time.
  12. Okay, Juliet/Sawyer officially broke the dam of tears that has been building up.

'We should get coffee some time.' *SOB*
  13. When Jack did that 'leap with fists raised' at Locke just before the commercial break, i was so imagining him going 'SPAAARTAAAA.'

Someone needs to make a Lost/300 trailer spoof. EPIC.
  14. I am going to miss this show so much. Lost has been with me since I was in middle school, and honestly I'm pretty sure my adult life has been greatly influenced by it. This is the only show outside of Star Trek that has made me feel so much for a fictional world. I've laughed, I've cried, I've learned.

So long, to the best show on television.

Let's take a moment to reflect on the various memes that Lost has created.
    Got anymore?

Yes, that would be very awesome! I am working on the first issue of the paper today, so if you want to submit some art for it, just PM me or send an email. Or contact me in game. Whatever suits you best. =)
  16. VirtueVerse Weekly is now hiring for writers and artists! Apply now!

As some of you may have heard, an online newspaper for the Virtue server is currently in the works. I am hoping to release the first issue by this Saturday, as I have a couple of articles in the works.

    Now, to business.

    WRITERS:
I am looking for writers who would be willing to put together some short newspaper articles for the paper each week. We'll have about 3-5 articles, possibly more if we get enough submissions, each week. Most of these articles will be about roleplay plots currently in progress on the server and some might just be a funny fiction article about, say 'Frostfire arrested...again' or something to that effect.

I'm also going to be auditioning people soon for a 'Dear Abby' type column where someone, in-character, will answer in-character questions from people around the server.

    ARTISTS:
Now, if all goes well, I would really like to have a Comics section in the paper just like it would be in a real newspaper. If I could get enough artists who would be willing to, each week, create a short newspaper strip for the paper, we could have about 3 strips each week. NOTE: The plots in these comics DO NOT have to be Virtue-only. They are fictional comic strips in a fictional game, so they can have whatever plot and characters YOU want, just like real comic strips in real newspapers.

Also, as suggested by Vex in the other thread, it would be great to have a small 'featured art' section in the paper. Preferably, I would like to showcase art of toons that are on the Virtue server. However, other art pieces are fine. So if you would like to suggest an art piece each week for the gallery, go right ahead.
    ---

There are MANY positions available in this. I'm not asking anyone to like, work super hard for this. It's purely voluntary, you're not making any gain and neither am I. VirtueVerse Weekly is a fan publication only and I'm hoping for it to be a fun addition to the community.

If you would like to join as a staff member, you can contact any of my Virtue toons listed in my signature and request to join the official chat channel or send an email to Virtue.Verse.Weekly@gmail.com. Please post any questions or comments below, and have an awesome day!

That's probably something I could combine with the Comics section, or replace the Comics section with if I don't get any strip artists. But yes, I would love to have a small art gallery in the paper. Hmm, the articles themselves will need accompanying pictures as well. *plansplansplans*

This is pretty much what I did on a regular basis in a previous game but I am notoriously lazy and unreliable so I wouldn't want to be an official staff member... But I would love to submit an article when it struck my fancy...
I actually hadn't decided about that before but I'm going to make a decision now. Official staff members WILL probably be required to at least submit SOMETHING every week, be it an article or simply some notes on a news story or a picture for the gallery. Others, such as yourself who I'm just going to call the 'interns', will not be required to submit articles. You could always just find a good story going and suggest it for the paper, at which time a staff member will look into it.

Just so everyone knows, I'm hoping to have enough content for the first issue to be released SATURDAY, MAY 22. A week should be plenty of time for this.

ALSO: Anyone who is good at formatting stuff for PDF files, please contact me. I will be formatting the paper myself through Open Office, and I have been teaching myself how to format stuff. Any tips or advice will be EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you!

Never fear, there are many positions available! You could always be an on scene reporter, going out and finding the latest stories. Or you could simply advertise to more people on the server.

UPDATE: I have updated the main thread with some new sections. In game, I will also be making an official chat channel for VirtueVerse Weekly, that way the staff and contributors can discuss the paper in game.
  19. Are you looking to add some entertainment to your superhero life? Need to keep up with the news around Paragon City? Want to add some spice to your roleplaying experience? Then become an employee for VirtueVerse Weekly!

VirtueVerse Weekly is an upcoming online newspaper based in the Virtue universe. Here's a rundown of some of the things that will be featured in the project.

Headlines: This section will be comprised of fictional stories written by you, the VirtueVerse players. Any notable plots in progress can be submitted as an article to the paper for possible publication. There will be about 3-5 stories published each week.

Advertisements: A section for advertisements. Will be available for supergroup advertisements and other things as by request.

Gallery: A section of CoH art recommended by you, the readers. If there is a particular piece of art you absolutely love, feel free to submit it for the Gallery! All pictures in the gallery will be direct linked to which ever website they are originally published at, so readers can click the pictures and comment on the artist or creator of the character.

Dear Abby: A question and answer article. The position for this will need to be auditioned for.

    Character Features:
This is an interview type section. Each week I will interview a notable Hero (or Villain, if possible) and write an article about the interview.

    OOC:
A section still being debated on. I would like to have a small part dedicated to non-character things going on around the server. If you any ideas regarding this section, by all means post them.

That is all for now, more will be added as time goes on and suggestions are made. VirtueVerse Weekly is entirely non-profit and is a fan made publication. Your stories and articles are copyright to you and you alone, the VirtueVerse Weekly staff will not stand to gain from them. This will be a community based project for everyone to enjoy, for FREE, and is purely voluntary.

Any comments or suggestions should be posted in this thread. If you would like to apply for a position as a journalist/editor/artist, or if you would like to submit an article or plot to be published, send to Virtue.Verse.Weekly@gmail.com.
  20. Did as suggest in one thread and ran a memory test. There was no problem there.

Another suggestion was heating. I played CoH this morning while running G-PUZ in the background. I played for about two hours before the game crashed and there was no significant spike in temp before the crash. The hottest it ran was about 107, but I was playing solo then so it may not have been at peak heat.

Will download and run CoH Helper or HijackThis and see what happens with that. If I don't get any information from that, I may have to resort to rolling back a driver.

Okay, I downloaded G-PUZ and used it to check. I'm assuming you just need the specs for the graphics and that's what I screenshotted.

Hope that helps. If you need any of the other specs let me know and I'll post them.
  22. I've been having a problem with my game crashing for a while now, and it seems to be getting worse. Neither I or my dad can figure out the issue and were wondering if anyone could help us out. We read through this thread, http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=143598, which lists the problem that I'm having (problem a, “Graphics Driver Has Stopped Responding and has Been Recovered”). We tried disabling the PhysX stuff that was said to might be causing the problem, but that didn't work either as my game crashed THREE TIMES in the space of one mission.

My father is hesitant about messing around with the drivers and stuff as it is a big pain to do and we don't to risk ruining my computer anymore. For reference, I am running Nvidia 9800 MGS on my ASUS G50 laptop. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate the help as I am currently finding the game to be nearly unplayable. Thank you.
  23. 11 pages of this thread and not a single person has mentioned Revolutionary Girl Utena?

And you call yourselves anime fans.

RGU is a fantastic and surreal fantasy(?) series that deconstructs just about every magical girl trope ever. It starts out as a lighthearted magical girl story but, in the last half of the show, descends into a very dark tale. The animation is excellent and actually IMPROVES as the story goes on, which is a rare occurrence. Seriously, just watch it.

There is also a movie, but I haven't seen that yet.
  24. Hey all, just thought I would also offer up my services as an 'artist.' I'm not as talented as some of the people on here, but if you like my style I'd be more than happy to draw any characters of yours.

    My DA: http://lexi-chan.deviantart.com/

I'll be looking through this thread as well. If any good characters catch my eye, I'll give it a shot.
