To everyone that gets discouraged...I've noticed since my short time of activity on this sub-forum some interesting behaviors that made me make important notes.
Some days there's hardly anyone posting any new threads, or bringing up old topics. I think I was lucky to post my comictizing feats when I did, otherwise such a title as "looking for willing sacrifices" would probably been passed over after 1 or two shots and it'd be done with after maybe the second day. Other days, like today, I go 10 minutes away from this sub-forum and there's new posts in almost twenty new/active threads. In my own posting, I try to be honest and contribute how I can to deeper conversations, and offer witty comments of shock and awe to the light and silly ones; but I myself tend to seriously lurk at times. It comes from knowing that I'm (by information of others in various social outlets) offensively blunt when I speak an opinion about something. Its because of this and the desire to not always post a "Looks great do me next!" post that I tend to not reply that often.
Unfortunately in this case I never got to see your artwork of Reigned and feel disappointed that you decided to take the course of action you had. Even if I don't comment, I'd still have tried to see it. _BAS_, best of luck in your art endeavors and I do hope you push through this and show us the finished work at least.
peace

O.O that's very nice.... anything special you're doing in the program to get that effect? I never did figure that out myself.

I think the bananahammocks have gotten to him again

well, if you have a new layer, that layer should technically be transparent... so when you add the grey you'd be using a paint brush and tracing the parts like the underside of an arm, below the chin-line, places that would naturally be darker. Another technique for shadows would be to create a new layer via copy and use the dodge and burn tools. dodge fades the color, while burn darkens it. also can be fine tuned and use any paintbrush (soft, hard, 3, 5, 9, 30, 500, etc) that you so choose. either choice is purely preference.

Hey I'm not the one that said joined at the crotch! I just had to say something about it first.

thats just...
not right....
at all....
ewwww...... -
dunno yet. thinking I might do Summer Heat's origin as a 'graphic novel' or something. But that might be biting off more than I can chew...depends on how pro I get with screenshot captures.

no, those were fine. but I can only enhance, not create from scrap. and I'm learning how to stretch how far I can enhance. Great action shots or power shots are obviously easier to enhance because have a higher chance of looking cooler to begin with. standing around poses are where it gets fun and interesting. I still think that the TA torso shot turned out well; and compared to the original attempt...you can see why I like the torso shot better. of course, practice makes perfect. you got an old screenie from some old event, I'd be glad to see what I can get from it.
Also wanna note I'm thinking about writing up a script for a comic book...Just to expand my abilities. -
looks pretty good. Head looks great, as for the hand, the knuckles look much more natural. personal nitpick though (and you can just ignore it if you don't want to deal with it any further) The hand looks like it is raised to knock on a door, not on a head...just an observation that its a bit rotated. Looks good if that was the intention!

There's a few out there that I've picked out the effect I liked most and fiddled with it. the problem with setting a tutorial is cases like this one I'm posting. In my opinion it looks like junk and yet the exact same sequence was used on some great ones like Eochai. If I find a high level similarity, its a possibility. Unfortunately, there's such different things I do to each screenie that gets it to a decent look.
This was my first pass at one of TA's screenies. The result compared to the other one is night and day in my opinion. With the good TA shot, actually stepped into sectional layers to have different effects for certain features. Just like with Grey Fox's screenie I was able to play with monochromatic scaling and contrast where it would wash colors on other shots.
Bad TA -
Got them done for you TA, had to throw them on photobucket since DA is being whiny. I did have a nice story but frustration cut it short to just 2 sentences.

My eyes were immediately drawn to said buldge. but at least you know he's got it.

bad thoughts! bad thoughts! >.< -
Nice... It almost seems to have a slight exaggeration for certain features that make it really well done overall.
since I don't see a closed queue anywhere, and if you're still taking requests, would you mind an attempt at Summer? his link is in the sig. -
Somewhat... The first 1 or 2 I did took hours to figure out the right sequence. As I get comfortable with the sequence they get faster, but then when I get a nice challenge like Grey Fox, I get to play around and experiment with other ways to acheive a decent look with more originals. glad you guys are pleased with the results!

Ack I didn't catch these before bedtime! Ok I promise they'll get done first thing in the am (when I wake up that is). Grey I am thinking I may do something a bit different since your screenshot is so nicely monochromatic...I'll see what it turns out.
gotta say, these are fun to make and I hope you guys enjoy seeing the result as I do creating them. ^.^ -
Here it is. I appreceate everyone offering me screenies to hone my skills with this. here's the latest one!
