I'm running a 4870 here and just standing around, with no AA or AF on (and all in-game settings set to the "standard" ATI values - e.g. no DoF or bloom, no desaturation, etc), I'm getting about 15 FPS standing around in Skyway City. This is on Vista x64. I've been messing with it for a few days now - there's nothing enabled in CCC; it's set to "Balanced" on the default visual settings for 3D. I actually even have the card overclocked like hell. It destroys Crysis and murders basically everything else I've thrown at it, but CoH barely even runs. Other OpenGL apps like Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and a bunch of open-source stuff all run fine. Beautifully, even. Tabula Rasa runs great too. Guess I'll go play that.

Did you add the multi-core processor switch?
[/ QUOTE ]
From what I have seen the multi-core switch is no longer needed as the game now uses all processors by default. I think that was fixed a couple of issues ago from what I have read.
To the guy with the 4870, I can't say I know that card as I own a 2900XT, but I get 60 fps just sitting around most zones until the action gets high. Some zones are tougher because of a lot of distant objects being rendered. You definitely want to try turning down some settings to see if you find what is causing the problem. If you have AA on, turn it off in this game. ATI really doesn't have AA working well right now.
I have everything set to max except AA which is off. So I know you should be able to get better frame rates.
You did not mention the rest of your system specs. Do you have 2GB of RAM? That's a must with Vista. -

I'm guessing you took that idea from the menue at the real life Quark's Bar in the Hilton in Los Vegas however in the series Dr. McCoy aka Bones actully shaved a Tribble only to find nothing. The tibble's body is in fact made up entirely of hair and nothing else.

Errm. Actually Bones said their bodies seem to consist entirely of a digestive tract and reproductive organs. But they definitely have more than just hair. -

Ok, I have to ask. Why is everyone so excited about this? I've rarely read an announcement that had less information than this one. For all I know this is an announcement that they are shutting down several servers due to lack of players.
Sheesh, people can get worked up about the dumbest things.

People are excited BECAUSE of the lack of information, not despite it. It's called a teaser.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude, a teaser is where a woman comes out on stage in a slinky outfit and the music starts up and you know she's gonna start peeling layers.
This announcment is more like a total bum walking out in a potato sack and you can't help but wonder if you came to the wrong show. -
I've been reading Statesman's responses in this thread, and I must say it sends a chill down my spine. I'm pretty sure what he is saying is that they want to make it HARDER for a group to take on even con mobs, and nearly impossible for them to take on Red Con mobs. He never, ever ever indicates that he thinks XP should go up.
So, it seems the plan is to make it such that you must group to take on white con mobs and get even LESS xp than you get today. Thus the future of this game seems to be forced grouping with terrible XP. Soloing will be possible, but your XP will be next to nothing. Missions will become impossible as the even con mobs and bosses won't be doable by a solo player at all.
It seems our best hope right now is that the competition gets their games released sooner rather than later, and save us the pain. -

If you guys would stop reading the boards maybe you could get some work done
Of Course if you don't read the boards how do you know what the problems are.
What a paradox.

Except that the folks reading the boards aren't usually the ones doing the coding... -
Dunno, as the smoke grenade ner....fix hasn't gone in yet. Reports are that this build will be greatly gimped after that fix is done. It'll just be another brutal XP grind build like all of the other AT's out there.

I have a Fire/Fire blaster which I have gotten to 28 and I really like him with my play style. However, I have noticed that having to take Stealth was a pain. So I have started a Fire/Dev blaster and have been enjoying it quite a lot. I decided to avoid Caltrops as I hear they stop being useful after awhile. I made 13 in two days, so that is good. I really like the Targetting drone. I'll probably go with Cloaking at 22, I will have Stamina already at 20 since I dropped Caltrops from the build
I'll let you all know how it goes.
