You should still be able to get recipes that way. Supply will be lower, but there will also be lower demand.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is just my opinion of how it will work, but I believe that the bolded part to be incorrect. I believe that there will actually be a higher demand for those. Look at it like this:

Each TF in the past gave 1 recipe per run per person, keeping supply high. The new system will make it so that many Tf's will need to be run before even qualifying for a random roll, bringing the supply down as you indicated. Couple that with people earning merits for the sure things rather than the random merit roll decreases the number further.

The deviation with your statement is that there are people who don't purple out their toons but would still use Trap of the Hunter or Pacing of the Turtle on their toons. You don't really hear that here, true, but forumites are a pretty small percentage of actual players if I recall correctly.

As someone who actually has some alts slotted with these cheap, admittedly lesser desired sets, I would hate prices would skyrocket because no one is earning them anymore.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong and I hope that I am. I don't think I am though

But wait, didn't you hear, Inventions are optional.

    Oh yeah...I forgot. It's a privilege, not a right.
  4. I guess what bothers me the most about the merit system is that for a casual player (i.e. someone who has limited time on any given night to play due to Real Life) will mostly go virtually unrewarded for many things that they do. These are the players who don't really 'grind' much of anything. Therefore, spending a large chunk of an evening grinding TF's or a story arc that only give a few at a time isn't really all that enticing.

    Think of it like this:

    - TF's take time to do and not everyone has that sort of time.

    - It will be more difficult to find people to make a team for just doing missions, because everyone wants to do their OWN story arcs for rewards. Less teaming = less fun.

    - Since only the person whose story arc it belongs to will get the merits involved, they will not get merits if they join a PUG to team for fun.

    - If the casual player were able to make time to do a TF, they no longer have that immediate gratifaction of getting the recipe after it's done. Instead, they have to save them up to even have a chance at a recipe they may or may not want.

This doesn't really apply to me as much because I am able to spend quite a few hours on during the week and weekends. Personally, I have friends who avoid TF/trials for the time it takes to do them (do them normally to enjoy the gameply and story, NOT speedrunning to farm.) I realize that most players are fine with grinding and farming, but the merit system as it stands will leave casual players feeling like they are missing out on an important part of the reward system.

    Just a thought.

Why, dont you get it? Because this is all in their plan to time sink people into playing more/longer for more profits. This has nothing to do with our fun, risk vs reward of any of the BS they have spewed in advertisements and on this board.

Its all about our time=money. Now that I see that is their prime objective, I will just inf farm and buy the stuff I want.

    Truth right here.

Merits are subject to diminishing returns?

After the Hunt, just skip everything except the Wall, Freeing the heroes, and defeating the Titan.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You did mean Walls, as in plural, right? Rock wall and mold wall are both in Eden. Is one skippable?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it should be plural. That's me being an engineer and not a typist

Whew. I was going to kick myself...

To Ironblade: Eden gets completed in 10-15 minutes on average, no typo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I don't believe this. I've done with this with different people, different SG's, etc and have never done it that fast. Not even close. I don't believe that many people are 'speed running' it when I know so many people who consider it the best TF/trial in the game and take their time.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Having been on a regular speeden team for a while that routinely broke 10 minutes and often broke 8 minutes, I'm not sure the numbers are off. I'll see if I can dig up the screenshot I took when my team completed Eden in 7 minutes 13 seconds. While that is not be typical, but the extreme performers blow the numbers for the average, and this can be seen on many of the merit reward numbers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Any new players to COX that happen to get in on a regular Eden team only to see their reward is 2 freaking merits for their time invested is going to be sorely disappointed. This goes for several of TF's/trials as well, but Eden is the most obvious example.

    RIP Eden Trial
  10. After seeing this post, I can see how people can run it in 15 minutes. It looks like you have to have just the right combo to do it, whereas just about any combo can do a Katie in 30-45 minutes.

I just really like Eden trial and hate to see it trivialized.

RIP Eden. I knew you well. :`(

I agree with Ironblade wholly on this. I have heard people talk about doing these that fast, and I don't doubt that it can be done. This sounds like a geometry glitch or somesuch. I would say that the average player is not 'in the know' on how that is done so fast.

A '2' for Eden's is pretty much a guarantee that no one will ever run this again, except for the badge.

The rest of the system I like alot. My favorite part of this new system is getting merits for doing story arcs. This is excellent news. Lets face it, the ever-mediocre enhancement rewards for story arcs was never much of a draw. Merits are a great incentive to get people to see the story content. I do have a question concerning this though:

For characters that have already completed a story arc, Flashback or otherwise, can they get the chance to earn the merits by completing it through flashback?

    Overall 2 thumbs up!

I don't think of them as "things". They represent the points in a fight or an investigation where the hero gets her second wind or becomes grimly determined or whatever. It's psychological, generally, not "I take my Underdog Power Pill".

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has kind of been my take on it as well. Like seeing the good guy in any movie getting his butt handed to him, then the 'hero' just clicks and things start going his way. Determination is what I chalk it up to, plus fits in real well with any toons with Willpower set
