A large chunk of the Wardens leave Praetoria and are chased by Cole's people into the far north. there, along the coastline they establish a new city that would be the pinnacle of their ideals of freedom, happiness for the people. It would be a Paradise peerless that even Praetoria would be but a dim glimmer against.
    It would be... Paragon.
See... At that point? I'd totally side with the Resistance if the Praetorians tried to invade. There literally wouldn't be a leg for the Loyalists to stand on, at that point.

But somehow i doubt the Devs would write the Praetorians as invading the Resistance held city of Paragon without a reason (to uphold the Shades of Gray idea). So they'd probably have the Crusaders still attacking Praetoria using Paragon as a staging ground.

Read the rest of the post. Or at least respond to the whole thing.

Praetoria is a new nation. It isn't a Republic, as America was in the Praetorian World. America is no more. there is an Emperor and Dictator in charge. he and his people built the city. The Resistance has no right to take it. If they want a City they should go out and build it for themselves, rather than getting a bunch of people killed so they can take away what Praetoria has built.

If Praetoria was America we wouldn't be having this discussion, at all.

When we decided we ddin't want to live under the British anymore, we didn't go to another country to avoid it - we took up arms and won our liberty on our own soil.
Praetoria is America, and instead of being the country that helped free the world from the danger of the Nazis, it's become a fascist state itself, that's crusing one world, and is about to launch an genocidal war on another - the Resistance are Americans, and they're fighting a second war of independence to liberate their country - only this time, it's against a home-grown oppressor rather than a foreign one.
    No.

Praetoria is not America. It may be on what was once American soil, but America is dead and gone. Burned clean with Nuclear Fire after the destruction wrought by Hamidon's pets.

And the "Americans" you speak of who fought for revolution were British Colonists on British Soil who had kicked the REAL Americans off the land of their ancestors and took it for Britain, then later declared their own ownership of the land.

Your statements ring out of the various members of the former Soviet union, fighting not only against Russian troops when they broke apart from the USSR, but each other as different countries disputed over what land belonged to who. Lots of talk of "Liberation" there, when all that actually happened was a bunch of civilians got killed over a few measly miles of dirt.

If the resistance wants Freedom they should do what the colonists did: Leave "England" to go to found a new city in their own "New World"

The State did not create the Ghouls.

Ghouls were created by a man, much like Dr. Hetzfeld, that desperately wanted to prove he was smarter and better than Praetor Berry. From Helix's mission chain, upon curing the Ghoul King so he can think clearly, he tells you the whole story.

    (emphasis mine)

The State did not create the Ghouls; one man's jealousy did. Which really amazed me when I learned it back in the beta, because I was really surprised to find some horrible twisted experiment that could not be laid at Neuron's feet.

The arc even indicates that the Ghouls created after Vasilikos aren't even innocent victims - they're clones. Depending on your feeling about the sanctity and humanity of clones, they might not even be people at all.

  7. It shocks me that Golden Girl can, on occasion, be so insightful and still be as dense as a brick...

Yes. the original design was "Loyalists bad, Resistance good" but it changed.

However writing up the entire Responsible and Crusader arcs to better highlight how there are good and bad people on both sides probably took more time than it would have taken to rewrite what became the Power and Warden arcs (Previously the Loyalist and Resistance arcs). As it is, both arcs had a makeover to reflect the changes bringing the other arcs into existence required (The Crusaders becoming an organized group in the resistance, rather than a bunch of independent cells acting against the groups core ideals)

When the Devs put in the "Shades of Gray" they wound up added a "Heroic" group to the Loyalists and a "Villainous" group to the Resistance. If the Resistance wins the day in Praetoria, two nuclear disasters will wipe out Nova Praetoria and Neutropolis. If the Loyalists win, nothing changes. There's still bloodshed and horrible horrible stuff going on.... but it's not a complete wipe of two freaking cities.

Somehow I think, in the end game content eventually to be released, the Devs will have to err on all sides having "Won". Which means that Nova Praetoria and Neutropolis will be green-glowing craters pretty much negating the Loyalist and the Warden "Success" situations.

While I agree that Cole is evil, and the Oligarchs are corrupt (and have since the argument began) I don't think letting the Crusaders win is a good thing. And the Wardens won't be able to stop the Crusaders, any more than they could stop Cole in a one on one fight.

... You're really not that dumb.. .are you? Seriously?

Read the first paragraph of what you posted. The point of the statement was: Without a People to Govern, a Government doesn't Exist"

Basically, the government must keep it's people safe (repressed, sure, but safe) or else it has nothing to rule.

Get your head out of Calvin Scott's third point of impact and realize what's being said, or stop posting.

  13. Any form of government, whether chosen by the people or made by a group conquering another group or divine right of birth or individual merit, must protect it's people from external and internal threats, to some degree or another.

Any form of government which does not do these things simply -isn't- a form of government. To be a Government it must Govern the people. Govern meaning to Control.

Whether they're often misused or not, it is fact that they regularly aid in keeping people safe from harm.

Also, I'm not sure if the Seers ignore the Destroyers on Tilman's orders. We're given reason to believe that the Praetors don't really know what each others secret projects are. While Tilman probably knows by virtue of being a super psychic, it's likely that White and Duncan's Destroyers aren't sanctioned by Cole. I don't remember even being given evidence that the Seers actively ignore ANY threat, but I may just be missing it.
It's definitely true that Cole doesn't know what all of his Praetors are doing.

And each Praetor doesn't know what the people under them are doing.

Run Praetor Barry's arc as a power Loyalist and you'll see what I mean, first hand. or you can read about it Here. But it's a fact that Cole isn't aware of -everything-. And while only a fool would say he may be completely innocent, just a figurehead for evil, I do think that he might be innocent of many of the crimes laid at his feet.

    Psionic Defense

Okay... Before anything else is said: I love the idea. the concept works wonderfully and it's almost an inverted Invulnerability, so it's Auto-win with me... at first.

Here are the changes I'd like to suggest.

Empowered Warfare. "Taunt" auras tend to have a 10 target cap, so drop the total targets and raise the bonus each gives you.

I'd change Self motivation... By adding Smashing/Lethal/Psi defense to it. Maybe 3-5%, but are you aware how littl 100% regen actually translates to? And a Tanker with only 35% base defenses is going to get chewed up if it's -all- he has for defense (The smashing/lethal resistance of Warfare will help, but not against fire/cold/nrg/neg)

I'd also keep Drain Psyche as the original power from the Dominator set.

I Love Mental Disruption, But I think Psionic Havoc is a poorly designed power. There are 3 "Defense" ATs, and only 1 focuses on tankiness. The other 3 focus on damage output. Putting a PBAoE Sleep Toggle in is bad news, if it's there for survivability. Especially considering how many PBAoE powers the various attack sets get. Instead I'll suggest a passive +Res to the exotics (including psi)

    And I love the tier 9. =-3

I don't know the /specific/ effect it has, but as far as I can tell, it's like drinking rainbows and hugs, making all the pain go away and letting you relax despite knowing that the sewers are full of dangerous terrorists.

But how strong is this drugging? We know that Enriche is the ONLY source of clean water, which means we need to assume that people like Luke Larson and Cleopatra are consuming it, and they seem to function against the Emperor. I propose thus that Enriche doesn't force anyone to be a loyalist, and it doesn't drastically change the functions of the brain, it just helps people relax and care a little less about the crazy that's happening in the world. Really, it seems to me that even if there WERE other forms of clean water, Enriche would still be the beverage of choice. Gods know I loves me some alcohol.
Enriche is not the only source of drinkable water in Praetoria. Enriche is -BOTTLED- inside the only Water Treatment plant in Praetoria.

There are slogans on the walls warning people that there's something in the water. Most people ignore it to some degree, but those who -don't- ignore it drink the Enriche, instead. So either the Regime is responsible for some of the graffiti in a reverse psychology plan to get people to drink Enriche instead of water, it's some whackaloon who thinks the water is drugged when it isn't, or you're damned no matter what you do as you chug a sedative.

Personally I'm inclined to believe the water isn't drugged, since that would require EVERYONE in Praetoria to suck down sedatives, including Cole, Mama Mayhem, and the Cops. And generally speaking you don't want the police force sedated.

Besides, when the Wardens intend to destroy the Enriche facility, blowing up the only source of clean water is a nasty side-effect of that. If the water was drugged then it would be the target, not the Enriche.

So either Reverse Psychology (Devious!) Or just some nutjob conspiracy theorist.

    a) World in ruin

    c) Martial Law under Longbow or Vanguard
    d) "New Rogue Isles"

If someone can come up with another idea, I'd love to hear it, but remember that the U.S.A. had our Declaration of Independence before we won the war. I propose that if Calvin Scott really wants a new world, he and his circle of elites need to put together a New Declaration and post it around town. And it needs to include a method of keeping the Hamidon from eating everyone.
There is no end-game for the Resistance. The Crusader End-Game is destroy Praetoria, lock stock and barrel. If you're not against Cole you die. End of story. You sat on the sidelines for the fighting? Bullet in the brainpan; Squish!

The Warden End game basically consists of take showing everyone in Praetoria the evils of their society. They've got no plan for when the great mass of people react, either by Rioting in the streets (resulting in hundreds or thousands of deaths) or shrugging their shoulders and saying "It doesn't affect me and this is better than when we were all being hunted by Devoured"

Both groups aren't looking for a brighter tomorrow. They're just wrapped up in "Get rid of Cole, now" They have no unifying goal BEYOND that. Democracy? Bullspit. The Crusaders are just going to blow up everything. If there is a notable population after the nukes go up, the remaining crusaders and destroyers will take over in a brutal manner.

Longbow and Vanguard as peacekeepers? Martial Law will become the next Oppressive Regime, and we're right back at square one with the Resistance. Or at least that's how the Crusaders feel like they're written.

  18. Remember! Third grade vocabulary. >_<

    -Rachel-
  19. I do not know "Mind control" in Japanese... And frea it would probably be in Katakana.

Heroine.. Eiyuu is Hero, so Eiyuuko could be a feminine version of hero. "Herogirl"

"Mainudocon Eiyuuko no Kotsujuko" would translate to "Mindcontrol Herogirl's humiliation/embarrassment" which is -about- as close as I think I'm gonna get... And I only speak Japanese as well as a third grader does. >.>

Shi. It can mean The number 4, or Death, or Poem. Depending on the Kanji or the sentence.

So the letters Gu and Ro could also be part of a bigger word that the character "Drops" part of in calling himself. Not that I know of any japanese words that start Guro~ and go on into other syllables...

Names that end with "O" are generally considered more masculine or manly than some of the other possible vowel endings (Notably A, which is very feminine, or "I" which is often considered to be a "Cute" letter by English speakers, like in "Yoshi") With the exception of "Ko" as a final syllable, which is incredibly feminine, since "Ko" often denotes a female.

  23. Okay.. Here's the thing...

    Japanese has 3 writing styles.

Kanji: Chinese based symbology in which a single character means a full word, possibly with multiple syllables. There are thousands of these, and most Japanese people memorize about 300-800 and rely on hiragana and context to explain what the rest are.

Hiragana: Which is the closes thing to an alphabet the japanese has as a syllabary. Each symbol is a vowel, a consonant plus a vowel, or the lettern n. Hiragana can be used interchangeably with Kanji, since the words have the same meaning. Hiragana is more of a way of spelling out a larger symbol. Think of Kanji as a pictogram and hiragana as the words under it, explaining what the image means, like a No Smoking Sign.

Katakana: Katakana is a Phonetic Syllabary, with all the same syllables as Hiragana, but drawn in a sharper and more crude manner to show that the word being phonetically written -isn't- japanese.

For comparison, look to these two images.
    Hiragana
    Katakana

Guro is the Katakana spelling of the word Gore. letter E in Japanese is always pronounces like the a in Ray. There is no Silent E in japanese. And O is always pronounced in the long vowel manner, never the Ooo manner.

So the word Guro is an English word translated (poorly) into Japanese to explain what genre a film is.

Ketsueki (Pronounce Keh-Tsu-Eh-Kee) is "Blood" while Chishio (Chee-Shee-Oh) is "Spilled Blood" There is no emphasis on any syllable in any japanese word and all are given the same amount of time and force when spoken.

Tsu is an interesting syllable, as it's basically saying "Su" but with the hint of a T at the beginning...

    Hope this helped!

    -Rachel-

    PS.
And Yes, Black could work... but it'd be an odd way to say it, since it would be "Windblack" with a literal translation of what "Black" means, rather than a more open Darkness/Black/Shade/etc which other words could provide. And even then, Gurokaze would be the way to make it a descriptive. Blackwind rather than Windblack.
