    Golden Age Comic

A new project I'm working on spawned from my character in COH.
As an artist I am not used to drawing in this style at all, and it's been quite an exercise in patience to emulate the drawing styles of others...which also says a lot about how horrible an animator I would make.
This is simply promotional material, but it's worth a look.

And yes, for collector's items these sure are in poor quality...

  5. Psymental & Teslamental's Magical Christmas Adventure

    written by Teslamental

One day Psymental suggested we go visit Uncle Recluse in his Spider Tower in Spider City.
"I bet Unckie Recluse gets very lonely in his Spider Tower in Spider City!" Psymental said with a skip and a hop.
"You're right!" I chimed. "We should go and make his holiday extra special!"
"But wait!" I frowned. "Our threat level is too low! We won't be able to travel to Spider City without a travel power!"
Psymental smirked a devious smirk. "Who needs travel powers when Santa can loan us some flying reindeer?"

So with that we grabbed a random Santa toon and asked politely for flying reindeer.
"GIVE US A FLYING REINDEER FATTY!!" I gently cooed.
Santa started crying and pleading for his life, so Psymental took his hat.
Then he pointed and laughed at him.

After we tickled him for a couple hours Santa decided to cooperate. Unfortunetly all the flying reindeers had taken jobs as epic mounts in World of Warcraft, so we stole some jetpacks from a catgirl and a kilted robot bunny.
"Now we can go visit Unckie Recluse!" Psymental cheered.
But to get to Spider City wouldn't be an easy task! Surely the enemies in Spider City would be lvl 60 if the level cap wasn't 50! Could we travel to Spider City in one piece?
Other Villains said we'd never make it.
But we were courageous villains and we'd prove them all wrong!
And with that we waved goodbye to Mercy Island.

We traveled for what seemed like days across the Rogue Isles. Along the way we saw a herd of lowercase e's,
    cliffdived for no reason,
    attended a snowman birthday party,
and Psymental even got a picture with the poisonous smog in Port Oakes.

We then borrowed (stole) a boat from some colorful sailors (Bob Denver & Alan Hale Jr.) and sailed to Spider City.

And after four weeks of finding the lost city of Atlantis, raising the Titanic, and oh resorting to cannibalisim, we finally made it to Spider City.
"Goly Gee Tesla! We did it! Now we just need to find a way to get into the Spider Tower," said Psymental with a jump and a spin.
"Lets ask that friendly albino cockroach for directions to the tower!" I suggested.
The albino cockroach said to us, "Seriously? I mean...can't you see the giant looming building behind me? All you have to do is...walk to it..."
"Then the game is on!" Psymental said with a backflip and a cartwheel.
With eager anticipation we ran towards the tower...
And were immedietly greeted by Unckie Recluse's kind words about how everyone in the world should have a puppy.
Then we had to wait in line for the teacups...
...Only to find out it had been replaced by the full body cavity search ride.
And then we saw him! Unckie Recluse in the flesh!
"Boy, he sure is a lot bigger and made of stone in person," said Psymental.
We quickly realized this giant statue was a giant statue after four hours of poking it with a stick.
And then we looked up in awe...
"Psymental! There it is! Uncle Recluse's Spider Tower!" I shouted. We then bounded inside singing songs of holiday cheer.

However for some reason Unckie Recluse's Spider Tower was a lot more...horrifically scary than we had originally thought.
Through a tangle of menacing metal hallways and doors we went...deeper into the Labyrinth of Unckie Recluse's home... Until we stood face to face with Recluse himself.
We fell to our knees and pleaded, "Please don't eat us Unckie Recluse!" Unckie Recluse just laughed and roared, "You dare speak to the Lord of Infinite Horror? I should eat you at once!"
Psymental cried out, "We just wanted to visit you for the holidays Unckie Recluse!"
Recluse paused from laughing evily...and his eyes glazed over with tears. "Visit...m-m-me?" he asked.
    We both nodded in fear.
Unckie Recluse sniffed, "Nobody ever wants to visit me...and it does get so lonely in my Spider Tower in Spider City." Unckie Recluse smiled a great overlord smile and patted us on the heads. "You two have shown me the true spirit of Christmas! Free ice cream for everyone!"
And with that Unckie Recluse summoned the most grandest Ice Cream Parade that Spider City had ever seen. There were balloons, juggling monkeys...
We even got to meet Ripster from Street Sharks, Chevy Chase, some guy doing laundry with a bunch of giant red chinese fingertraps, and Michael Jackson.

Soon the festivities came to an end and we returned home to Mercy Island. Overall it was a great Christmas Adventure and we can't wait to do it next year! If our left legs ever heal.

    The End.
  6. Actually the color scheme is interesting!
See, my whole problem is I want to make a plant controlling character...but without using the cliche "made of plant" costume set.
  7. Still looking for some help. Anyone will do.

Thanks. Yeah I get that a lot.
I never even heard of the comic or the creator of JTHM until someone actually pointed it out to me a couple years ago...but obviously his work isn't too far off from Tim Burton's style, which is obviously a huge influence to me...along with Ren and Stimpy.
I guess I'm also more into the dark kind of cinematic heroes and villains rather than comic books. It's all about mood and energy in my work. Atmosphere...and you know...film noir superheroes are usually stark colored and black, so when I create a toon in COX I look at it with a dark artist's eye.

Well black is my favorite non-color...but I think it's just hero-related. Mocking-Bird used to be brightly colored, but I wanted to emulate the actual bird more so I went to black...I should throw in a few greys, like maybe her t-shirt.

Black is just cool for badguys, so I use it a lot. Nothing says "I'm going to kill you" like black...even Arachnos' henchies are mostly black with red mixed in...of course they have those spiffy metallic suits too...

But at the end of the day its just my preference for what I pay. I see so many crazy colored toons as it is...

Just a personal preference of mine. Nothing against those who do make those characters. I just don't like looking at giant muscular men is all. But there's plenty of other players who have them...and naturally I don't mind designing a costume for one!

If you take a look at my art you'll see why...it's sort of dark and morbid...and lots of abnormally skinny stuff. That sort of translates over even when I create COX costumes.

Yeah, can't beat that generic pirate look. I think it really only works well without a shirt or top. Otherwise it looks a bit contrived using what the game offers.
Nice that I scored the name too...'cept had to add that 'e.'
  12. The "shoppe" thread looks a bit heavy on the load. I wouldn't want to add more to the pile there.

Well I'm sure you know the drill. I'm wanting to try my hand at creating some costumes, since I spend so many hours getting "the right look" on my own.

So give me the toon's name, powerset, any backstory, and anything else you want to throw in...and I'll whip you up a costume. I can't guarantee you'll like it, but I know sometimes I get frustrated trying to find a good look and an outside source can help.

And of course, here's some examples of the characters I've created:

    '50s Housewife Bot -emp defender
    Colonel Universe -inv/ss tank
Silver Screen Cowboy -trick arrow/archery defender
Count of Illusion -illusion/force field controller
1896 Time Traveler -gravity/force Field Controller
    Twisted Horror -necro/dark miasma mastermind
    Mocking-Bird -sonic/energy manipulation blaster
    Missus White -thugs/poison mastermind
    Davey Jones -ice/ice dominator
  14. I've been having trouble coming up with a good costume for a character I created. I want a plant control/thorn Dominator.
It's a female alien from Venus...and she controls the alien plantlife found on Venus (as if Venus was covered in a lush jungle filled with Dinosaurs a la the theory of the 1800s).
She'd have a bodysuit that seals itself after being punctured by the thorns...so there's the information! She also might have green skin...
If anyone can take a crack at a costume I'd highly appreciate it!

  16. Let's not forget that there will be a bunch of Gambit-type heroes/villians and Hellboys if trenchcoats go live.
I agree with the lvl 20 thing tho.
They should be just like capes...otherwise, there's no point to get to lvl 20. >_>
  17. Right now...
    for myself...
there is alot of game to play.
I only have time to play COX for 6 hours total on weekends and maybe 9 hours total on weekdays if I am lucky. I have 2 heroes and 2 villians that I play regularly and the highest is only 25. x_x
It will take me forever to get to lvl 50 with any of my toons.
It will also take me forever to get any useful items in my SG's base...we almost have enough for a basic generator. Heh... -_-
I am just not able to put in enough hours to advance very fast...
I'd get more people in my SG, but all of the people I play with regularly are already in SGs (we have about 15, but only about 5 of them actually get any prestige)

    So...
For people who grind in about 6 hours a day, lvl 50+ content would be a huge benefit.....however, how much could it possibly be?
A few hundred more hours and you'd be done and wanting more.
I hope the next issue or issues expands on gameplay that can be had at any lvl.
    PvP was a nice addition...
However...myself, I don't care to much for it.
I'd rather take on hordes of enemies cooperatively.
Seeing SG missions and more content in that area might be nice aswell...
    Perhaps a /chairsit emote?
