Fair enough... more commenting from the OP that being in this type of movie might make someone less classy.
  3. So just out of curosity I looked up the Oscar winners for Best Actor and Actress from 2000 - 2010. The following were my findings:

    2000
Russell Crowe: was kinda ify with me if he's been in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Comic Book Movie. Gladitor and Robin Hood have some elements of Fantasy, but both are approached from a historic aspect (however inaccurate it may be)
    Julia Roberts: Hook, as Tinkerbell

    2001
    Denzel Washington: Book of Eli
Halle Berry: Catwoman and X-Men movies

    2002
    Adrian Brody: King Kong
Nicole Kidman: Batman and The Golden Compass

    2003
Sean Penn: The only one I wasn't able to find at least some movie that I could consider. (Granted I didn't feel like reading through descriptions of ever movie he's been in
Charlize Theron: Hancock and Aeon Flux

    2004
Jamie Foxx: Stealth (bit of a stretch but sorta Sci-Fi)
    Hilary Swank: The Core

    2005
Philip Seymour Hoffman: Invention of Lying (small role but still)
    Reese Witherspoon: Pleasantville

    2006
    Forest Whitaker: Phenomenon and Repomen
Helen Mirron: Before playing the Queen of England, she was the voice of "Deep Thought" in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and played "Morgana" in 1981's Excalibur

    2007
Daniel Day Lewis: Listed as "Library Student" in Atermis 81 so I'll assume its a minor role, as I haven't seen the film.
    Marion Cotillard: Inception

    2008
    Sean Penn: See Previous
Kate Winslet: Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind

    2009
Jeff Bridges: if only he had done something involving being sucked into a computer (orignal film)... that would have been a cool movie (tongue in cheek and if you don't know what I'm talking about... I don't even know what to say)
    Sandra Bullock: Practical Magic

    2010
Colin Firth: Dorian Gray (haven't watched this yet, but it is on my queue through Netflix)
Natalie Portman: those prequels that shall remain namelss...

So of the 21 award winners in the last decade, only 2 or 3 haven't done something in those genres (depending on if Sean Penn has that I couldn't find, and how you come down on Daniel Day Lewis and Russell Crowe)... Personally, I think that shows that the genre is perfectly acceptable for "serious" actors.
  4. I'll sign up for this. I can bring either Lord Wonders my WM/SD soft capped brute, although he doesn't have taunt at the moment (yay for free respec) or Starwinds my Rad/Rad Corr. I can be available anytime on the 3rd.
  5. I'm at work right now so I can't give specific numbers. I understand going for Ranged defense, but I wonder if it might be easier to go for S/L/E/N which will cover you from the vast majority of attacks. You have the option of the armor in Ice Mastery, which you don't have right now, to give you a good chunck of the S/L and Thunderstrikes are great in those ranged attacks for the E/N. You said you've got cash to spend so Kinetic Combats might not be out of your range of possibilities.

When I get home tonight I'll pull up the build and look at it (I'm currently leveling a Earth/Fire dom that will take /Ice as well, just haven't gotten around to doing a build in Mids for it yet)

Just a small side note, and really about personal preference, so take it with a grain of salt. I think your Super Jump and, possibly, combat jumping are a little overslotted. With Hurdle for free now, you're already approaching the cap for movement speed. Throw in a jump speed IO in the first slot of hurdle and you're probably pretty close. If reaching that cap is important to you, by all means spend the slot, but I think the second one isn't really giving you anything. (Again, stuck at work so can't give you concrete numbers) As a small tweak, I'd take out one of the slots in Super Jump and add a 6th to EQ and place the Achilles' -RES Proc in there. More -Res is never a bad thing.
  6. I just rolled up a Plant/Thorns and got him up to level 18 so far. Very satisfied to this point. As previously mentioned, Seeds is AMAZING... My opening usually consists of Seeds, wait for them to group, Roots, to make them stay put, Thorns Cone, and then pick off the rest. If one escapes the Seeds, then thats were the hold comes in. The constant ticking of orange numbers from Roots and Thorns is very satsifying. Add in Thorntropes later (with procs of course) and I'll be even more happy.

That being said, fire is always a good choice. Who wouldn't want more damage? As a previous poster mentioned, no midigation with the set, other than the ultimate type. Death.

The Sticky Link at the top of the Dominator Forum with some good guides on different combinations with Plant/. Here's the one I read through when deciding to do my Plant/Thorn.

  7. I just have a quick question on slotting on a controller's Pet (hence the title). I just got my first Controller up to lvl 33 so I actually have a couple of slots to put into my pet (Stoney in this case). I've noticed with him, in a prolonged fight (which almost everything is, but granted I'm playing on x3 w/ Bosses) he starts to run his Endurance down pretty quick.

So now my question, will slotting End Reduction SO or IOs reduce the End of his attacks or simply my end cost of summoning him?
  8. I'll throw my current project into the discussion... Earth/Sonic controller. Great holds with Earth, can't remember the exact numbers, but pretty sure stoney is capped to every damage type with your shields and bubble on him, plus giving -20% resistance with holla hoops. I took Stone Mastery APP for the shield and being able to slot + recharge proc from FF in Fissure... It's a lot of fun and I didn't see either powers on your list.

I don't really do any PvP so I can't speak to that, but I do have an ele/nin stalker and I could see that being entertaining in PvP

    Caps For Pets

Just out of curosity, and since I can't find anything on it on Paragon Wiki... Anyone one know what the caps are for pets. (Stuff like resistance, damage, you know... fun stuff like that)

Mainly I'm looking at Stoney for my Earth/Sonic build and I'm wondering what his resistance is going to cap at. 80%? 90%? 100%? What?!? (ok i'm dreaming on the 100% but oh well...)

Any one got a number for me?

    Underlined and bolded!!

I've been wondering about this since I read Tyrant's bio on the Going Rogue homepage. It says the Tyrant defeated Hamidon but it also states "...but he had also learned much more from his brief joining of minds." Perhaps Cole really didn't win and Hamidon has just found an easier way to dispose of humanity. After all, they're locked up behind their sonic fences (remind anyone of a Zoo?), mostly docile (Resistance excluded of course) and now he's found the perfect use for his pets... Throwing them against Primal. Cannon fodder anyone?

Don't know that the Devs would actually do this, but I would like the twist.
  12. Thanks again for everyone's feedback!

Leaning more towards a Fire/Dark now... The good AoE potential from fire was a big draw to me. Probably end up rolling him up this weekend sometime if I find time with doing the WTF multiple times (is there a better acronym for the Weekly Task Force?)
  13. Looking forward to the journey for the destination. Just looking for something that would be entertaining and a little bit unique. (Granted there are only so many combinations so I'm not expecting to be one of a kind here)

I'll admit. Ice/ was one of the ones that I was considering. I was also looking at Fire/

I'm stuck at work right now so of course I can't fiddle with Mids but I'll also look at WP and Invul. For some reason I can't convince my work that Mids is essential for maintaining my sanity at work. Oh well...

Thank you, everyone for quick replies.

Any thoughts of pro's and con's of these sets. (I mainly play def/corr so switching into SMASH! mode always takes me time to wrap my brain around)
  14. Well the title pretty much says it all...

First off, a little back ground. 36+ month vet of the game, and long time reader of the Forums, but as you can see first post. I've embarked on my quest in getting one of each AT up to 50 and next up on my list is the Tanker. I just can't seem to find a primary that appeals to me.

I want to pair this with /Dark Melee and I have only 1 rule. I don't want to duplicate powersets. Therefor, Dark Armor and Shield are out as I already have a spines/dark scrapper and WM/SD brute (sorry Dechs you can't plug DA)

And lastly, for a little background on me. I usually solo for about the first 25 levels or so and then start running TF and such. I don't PL these toons and I'm not looking for a ticket/inf farmer or anything like that. Just playing for the sake of playing.

That said, I'd love for you Tanker gurus to give me some feedback. What might be a fun pairing for /DM (excluding DA/ and SD/)?

    Thanks again!
